The vibes of Karens cafe were always relaxed and welcoming, with a cozy atmosphere that made you feel right at home. Soft lighting cast a warm glow over the space. The scent of freshly brewed coffee and sweet pastries. hints of chocolate, vanilla, or cinnamon from baked goods, mingling with the earthy aroma of roasted beans. creating a warm and cozy atmosphere that draws people in and makes them feel at home in the small town of tree hill .
But thats not what brought Nathan Scott to Karens cafe he woke up at nine thirty not to just get breakfast but to see a certain waitress.
Pushing the door open, a cheerful bell jingled above, announcing his arrival, making the certain waitress raise her head from the cash register. When she noticed who it was she smiled a warm welcome smile " hi Nathan! Good morning " Haley said cheerful the smile still on her face, walking towards the counter Nathan sat down on the stool " hey hales how are you? " Its been a week since Nathan last Haley, they've been hanging out more after the party but never just the two of them, until he left for LA to get his stuff moved to Tree hill
" Im great actually how was LA? Lucas tells me than your moving to tree hill! We can get to know each other more "
" LA was never home Tree hill has always been home " Nathan smiled at her " what would you like for breakfast? " Haley asked as she got her note pad ready " i would like chocolate chip pancakes and coffee please "
" sure, anything else? " Nathan shook his head and Haley went to get started on his order .
Nathan looked around the cafe and noticed how empty it was early in the morning when haley came back with his order " Im assuming I'm a little early? " Nathan said as he began to eat " people come in around eleven so yeah technically your early " Haley giggled and Nathan couldn't help but smile at her cute laugh.
" so haley James tell me about yourself I haven't had a real conversation with you in a while " Nathan took a sip from his coffee " you already know Im 21 years old i just graduated from Stanford and i still work at Karens " haley walked from behind the counter to sit next to him
" you told me about Haley James i wanna know what Haley is up to " Nathan smirked at her while she roll her eyes at him " honestly? " Nathan nodded " Im still the same nerd from high school"
" really? you never went crazy in college? " Nathan asked surprised " well if you count making out with a girl crazy then yes "
" really? I would've loved to see that " Nathan smirked but the smirk soon turned into a pout when Haley laughed " your mean you know that? "
" yes but in all seriousness no i never went crazy in college except for getting drunk with Brooke at a frat party in new york when i went to visit her and no we didn't make out " Haley laughed when she saw Nathan shrug " when do you get off? "
" at four why? " Haley asked confused " how about you meet me at the river court at four thirty we're going to do something fun, just me and you" Haley looked at him biting her bottom lip hesitantly " come on what do you say haley james? "
" i say let's do something fun " Nathan laughed at her giving her a high five
Haley walked towards the court she noticed Nathan there shooting some baskets, he turned around when he heard footsteps " since your now here Im going to show you what the crazy thing we're going to do " Nathan smirked as haley walked towards him standing in the middle of the court
seeing his up-to-no-good smirk haley said " what are you up to Nathan Scott? "
" i thought of something fun to do for the day. if i had more points than you did we have to do whatever i want and vice versa " Nathan looked at haley confused when she started to laugh " Nathan I appreciate you making my life more fun and crazy but i cant play basketball even if my life depended on it "
" that's the point hales, I'll teach how to make a shot then we'll start with the challenge, deal? " Nathan brought his hand out for Haley to shake " deal " she said shaking his hand .
Standing infront of the basket Nathan was standing behind haley " okay hales here's what your going to placing his hands gently over hers, he felt something go to his spine, but he tried to ignore the feeling. He focused on the ball, pushing aside the warmth that was creeping in, not wanting to acknowledge how much it affected him. " okay, let's start with how to grip the ball," he said, ensuring she held it with her fingertips.
"Now, get into your shooting position," he continued, helping her position her feet shoulder width apart. "Remember to bend your knees a little. It'll give you more power."
As he helped her raise the ball, he added, "When you throw, use your legs to push up and let your shooting hand do the work. Just follow through with your wrist like this." He demonstrated the motion, encouraging her to mimic him. "You got this hales" haley smiled at him a knee weakening smile that he came to love .
Haley took aim and released the ball, watching it arc perfectly before swishing through the net, turning around to face Nathan she saw him clapping she bowed as she was bowing for an audience " great job hales, now lets start with the real fun! "
" loser! " Haley smirked as she saw the ball make it into the net, haley had scored three points while surprisingly Nathan had none
" don't forget whos the professional here hales " Nathan winked at her, picking up the ball he dribbled the ball confidently, eyeing the hoop ahead. With a quick move he released the ball, and it sailed through the air before swishing through the net. Turning around to face haley " who's the loser now James?" Haley rolled her eyes at Nathan who was now supporting a cocky smirk
picking up the ball Haley went to stand infront of the hoop throwing the ball no where near the basket, she turned around when she noticed Nathan laughing and clutching his stomach as if he was watching a comedy show " are you done laughing at me? "
" no "
" just play " Haley rolled her eyes at him as he took the ball when haley got an idea she smirked and walked behind Nathan her hot breath making it hard to concentrate " loser " she whispered making him throw the ball next to the basket " you made me loss! "
" thats what you get for laughing at me " Haley said picking up the ball and standing in front of the ball trying to focus when she was about to throw the ball Nathan said " look a bee! "
" where?! " Haley said as she threw the ball and ran next to a now laughing Nathan " who's the loser now? " he stopped laughing when haley swatted his chest " you jerk! ugh, come on lets go "
Nathan smirked as he positioned himself infront of the basket while haley had a devilish smirk on her face, she walked towards Nathan and stood below the basket. As he was about to throw the basket haley lifted her shirt up revealing her bra-clad chest, Nathan dropped the ball and keep his eyes on her chest, he swallowed the lump in his throat. He couldn't help but think she had amazing b-
he was cut out of his daydream when Haley grabbed the basketball from the floor and scored it and did a little dance that Nathan couldn't help but think it was cute
" i won "
" its called cheating! Your a freaking basketball player "
" its not my fault your short "
" hey! My momma is short "
" well thank your mom for your short pants genes "
" so what do you want us to do? " Haley asked they sat on the bleachers " i wanna take you out "
" sure "
" no i mean i wanna take you out on a date "
" wh..i..what? "
" look i know your Lucas's best friend and all and i know he would kill me but i really love spending time with you, you never judge me, you don't wanna know me just because I'm a basketball player you wanna know me for me and- "
" okay "
" and you believe in me- wait what? "
" okay Nathan Scott I'll go out with you " Haley smiled at his reaction " i promise you, you wont regret it haley james " Nathan smiled as he held her hand " but dont tell anyone especially not Lucas or he would give us a hard time " Nathan nodded in agreement
" be ready at seven tomorrow okay? " Haley nodded the smile still plastered on her face " should i dress fancy? "
" dress casually "
" where are you going to take us? " Haley said standing up and walking next to Nathan towards her car " you'll see tomorrow " Nathan smirked at her when they stopped at her car
" okay then, good night Nathan " Haley kissed his cheek softly and Nathan couldn't help but think about how soft her lips was " good night hales "
