In the City of Zootopia's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the dedicated investigators of the Special Investigations Unit. These are their stories.
A young mouse couple walks the streets of Tundratown at night. They are accompanied by a polar bear, who serves as their bodyguard.
"I can't wait to see the new restaurant. I hear they had a waiting list so long it makes Rapunzel's hair jealous!" The female said.
"Just remember not to drink anything alcoholic. We don't want anything happening to our second little bundle of joy." The male said, putting a paw on her stomach.
"Oh, you!" The female said. Just then, a loud thud occurred and they looked to see a black panther on the ground with a knife in their chest. The female screamed and the male held her close, hiding her face from looking.
[The next morning….]
Nick and Judy were sleeping peacefully, both starting to wake up simultaneously. They soon looked into each others eyes and smiled.
"Morning." Nick said.
"Morning." Judy returned. The two shared a brief kiss before getting up.
"I'll let you shower first," Nick spoke, "and I'll get our uniforms ready." Judy smiled at that.
"Thanks, Nick. You're so sweet." She spoke. Judy then got in the shower as Nick prepared their uniforms. Afterwards, he got started on breakfast. Not long after he finished cooking for him and Judy, she came downstairs in her uniform.
"Perfect timing. I have breakfast ready." Nick said.
"I could smell it from upstairs." Judy said, smiling.
"You go ahead and eat. I'll shower before I start eating. I already took care of the dishes." Nick spoke.
"You're spoiling me!" Judy said.
"Just making the day start easier." Nick said. Judy giggled as Nick went upstairs to shower and get dressed for work.
'God, I love him so much!' Judy thought.
[Meanwhile….]
Ron sighed as he just finished showering, having woken up at 4 AM to do a workout. He soon got dressed in his uniform before heading down to the kitchen. He grabbed an apple and headed out, biting into it. He then unlocked his vehicle and got in, turning the vehicle on and driving off. He then drove past Nick and Judy's, seeing that they had just got out. He stopped and rolled his window down.
"Morning, you two." He said. They looked and smiled.
"Morning, Sergeant!" Nick said.
"You headed in, too?" Judy asked.
"Yeah. Follow me to the SIU Headquarters." Ron said. However, Ron's phone soon rang and he saw it was Clawhauser.
'Looks like showing them the HQ will have to wait.' Ron thought. Ron then got serious and answered.
"Nolan." He spoke.
[In Tundratown….]
Officers were keeping the press and spectators back as CSIs were documenting everything. Kiara and Wanda were speaking with the mouse couple that found the victim, who was now being put into a Coroner's Office van. Ron then pulled up, as did Nick and Judy, and the three approached the scene. Judy then saw the mouse couple and gasped, running to them.
"Fru Fru!" She said. The female mouse looked at Judy, grateful.
"Oh, Judy! Thank heavens!" She spoke.
"You know her?" Wanda asked.
"I'm her daughter's godmother." Judy said. Nick then approached and went to the polar bear.
"Kozlov. Did you witness anything?" Nick asked.
"Нет, I didn't. He was already dead when we discovered him." Kozlov spoke.
"You two seem to know them pretty well." Kiara said.
"We met during the Night Howlers investigation." Nick said. As this happened, Ron was talking to a CSI.
"Did you find any ID?" Ron asked.
"We did. It'll explain the heavy media presence. We didn't let Wanda approach because of it." The CSI said. They showed the victim's wallet, the ID visible, inside an evidence bag. Ron's eyes went wide before he gave it back.
"Keep this on the DL." Ron spoke.
"Copy." The CSI said. Ron then walked towards the others, each one sensing his demeanor.
"This can't be good." Nick muttered. A limo then pulled up and a door opened to reveal one of the most dangerous mafia bosses in Zootopia: Mr. Big.
"Daddy!" Fru Fru said, going to him and hugging him. He hugged her back quickly before checking her.
"Are you okay, pumpkin? What about the baby?" Mr. Big asked.
"We weren't hurt. We stumbled upon a crime scene." Fru Fru said. The male mouse then went to them and Mr. Big hugged him.
"Thank God." Mr. Big spoke.
"She's Mr. Big's daughter?" Kiara whispered.
"This probably won't end well." Wanda returned. Ron then approached and Kozlov was about to stop him, but Mr. Big shook his head.
"Sgt. Nolan," Mr. Big spoke, "are you in charge of this case?"
"My team and I are. This case is being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit." Ron said. Mr. Big then saw Nick and Judy, smiling.
"I see you have my granddaughter's godmother on your team." He spoke.
"If you mean Detective First Grade Judy Hopps," Ron said, "she is. As is her partner, Nick Wilde."
"Good on him. He's redeemed himself." Mr. Big spoke.
"Regardless of that," Ron said, "your daughter has given her statement. She's free to leave, but we may need to ask her more questions later on."
"I understand. I'll give you our contact information," Mr. Big said, "and I'll have my driver be on standby in case you need to speak with us."
"That would be appreciated." Ron said.
"Given the circumstances," Mr. Big said, "if you need to speak to us in uniform, that's fine."
"Oh," Fru Fru said, "why don't you come by after the case is over, Judy? We have a LOT to catch up on."
"Like the fact you're pregnant?" Ron asked. Judy gasped in shock before squealing in joy.
"How'd you know?" Mr. Big asked, ready to have Kozlov act.
"I overheard you when you asked her if she was okay. You then asked, and I quote, 'what about the baby?' I haven't seen a newborn with her," Ron said, "so that made me question why you would ask that. Then I saw her instinctively put her hands at her stomach, and I pieced it together." Fru Fru's jaw dropped and Mr. Big gave a smile.
"Sharp instincts. I can tell it wasn't your charm that got you the rank of Sergeant." He spoke.
"There's also the fact I'm the only predator who survived the effects of Night Howlers without medical attention." Ron spoke. Kozlov then tensed up, which caused Nick to look at him. Mr. Big then went serious.
"You were one of Bellwether's victims." He surmised. Ron then unbuttoned his shirt and moved a bit of his fur to reveal an injection site.
"I was her damn first." Ron spoke, his tone serious. Kozlov then made a cross over himself as Mr. Big gave a look of shock.
"You were her test subject." He spoke.
"She wanted to know if the effects would work," Ron said, buttoning his shirt back, "so she ambushed me as I was working a case. Injected me using a damn pellet. I called in sick the rest of the day, knowing what was going to happen. I had isolated myself at an abandoned warehouse scheduled for demolition. It was there I saw medical equipment, and I removed the pellet from me. I kept fighting the effects, and told Former Mayor Lionhardt about what had happened. He wanted to take me for treatment, but I refused."
"Why did you?" Mr. Big asked. Ron then pulled out a card, causing everyone to gasp in shock.
"I'm straight edge." Ron spoke.
"Run that by me again?" Nick asked.
"He doesn't drink," Mr. Big explained, "he doesn't smoke, he doesn't do drugs. In short, he has no vices."
"I'm the last remaining member of the ZPD Straight Edge Society. All other members had to leave because they were given a Night Howler vaccine." Ron spoke.
"Yet you refused it. A true straight edge." Mr. Big concluded.
"How did you overcome it on your own?" Fru Fru asked.
"It was a struggle," Ron said, "but I used it to my advantage. Instead of giving in, I fought back. I managed to send a message to Clawhauser, our dispatcher, about what had happened. He agreed to keep it on the DL. That is, until other predators started going missing."
"Which launched the investigation." Judy concluded.
"You were the one who suffered so we could find them." Nick said.
"Bellwether never said anything about you." Judy spoke.
"Why would she? I was her first victim," Ron spoke, "and I'm a cop. She'd be confessing to Assault on a Police Officer and Attempted Murder."
"That would explain why Bogo was so harsh on you, Carrots." Nick said.
"He wanted them found so he could know Ron was safe." Wanda spoke.
"You're one tough mammal. I can respect that. You'll have my full cooperation." Mr. Big spoke.
"That didn't answer my question. How'd you overcome it?" Fru Fru asked.
"I simply practiced what I learned in the academy in terms of martial arts." Ron said.
"Wait," Kiara said, "Judy said you were top of the class when you two were in the academy. How did she GRADUATE at the top of the class?!"
"Simple. She worked her ass off. I gave her the idea of practicing on her off time. I did the same." Ron said. Nick then caught on.
"I get what you did! You got your adrenaline going," Nick spoke, "which sped up the process of the serum to get through your system! You let it take its course!"
"After which time," Ron said, "I had told Bogo everything. He then gave me paid time off to fully recover, as my body was weak from a lack of food and fluids. Before he had a chance to stop Bellwether, she played her final hand that led to her falling for the trap you two set."
"The final hustle I ever did." Nick said, reminiscing. Mr. Big then looked at Ron in awe.
"You truly are a survivor." He spoke.
"So are you. I know of your past." Ron said. Mr. Big then smiled and nodded.
"My Grandmama would have loved to have met you. Tell me, have you ever had a cannoli?" He asked.
"I can't say I have," Ron said, "but I'm willing to try it. Just don't tell me to leave my gun to take it." Mr. Big then laughed a bit.
"You knew where I was going with it!" Mr. Big said. That's when Fru Fru gasped.
"I just remembered! He's the one who was abandoned in Downtown Zootopia when he was a cub!" She said.
"Heard about that, huh?" Ron asked.
"If you ever find those fools that abandoned you," Mr. Big said, "you just tell me."
"You don't have to worry about that. I ran into them two months ago." Ron said.
"Where are they? I'll get them here and show them what happens to those who hurt my family." Mr. Big said.
"I appreciate the sentiment," Ron said, "but it's not necessary. My birth parents had another child, and I had to protect one of Judy's nieces from them. My mother actually regretted abandoning me, but my father didn't. He actually wanted to kill me, and he attempted it two months ago when I saw him. Because of all the practice I had, I managed to get stronger. I hid that strength until he left me with no choice. He killed my mother, and tried to kill my brother who spoke against him. My team were witnesses to what I had to do after." Kozlov then approached before looking solemn.
"What happened?" Mr. Big asked. Ron sighed before going solemn himself.
"I was left with no choice… but to kill him using a DDT." Ron said.
"Your mother?" Mr. Big asked.
"Died from a gunshot from a revolver. She was buried in Bunnyburrow. My father's body was burned to ashes in the thunderstorm that occurred." Ron said. Mr. Big then had Kozlov lift him up, and he put a paw on Ron's shoulder.
"Much as I would have loved to ice him," Mr. Big said, "you protected the only biological family you had. You even protected the niece of my granddaughter's godmother. You have my sympathies for your mother, and my utmost respect. I'll be using my connections to help Zootopia in one way or another. Should you require my help, please don't hesitate to ask. You and your team are my family, too." Ron then gave a soft smile.
"The unwritten rule." Ron spoke. Mr. Big gave a chuckle.
"Huh?" Nick asked.
"It's one of Gibbs' rules. The unwritten one." Judy said.
"What is it?" Nick asked. Mr. Big then smiled and looked at Nick.
"You do what you have to for family." He spoke. Ron then sighed.
"We should get back to work." Ron said.
"I'll be waiting to hear from you." Mr. Big said.
"Before or after the case is solved?" Judy asked.
"Either or." Mr. Big said. He then got in the limo with Kozlov, Fru Fru, and her husband before it drove away. Ron then looked at his team.
"What did you guys find out?" He asked.
"Not much. CSU wouldn't let us see the victim." Kiara said.
"Because this case is a high priority." Ron said.
"How so? Is the victim famous?" Nick asked.
"One of the CSIs showed me the ID of the victim. This case is personal for us." Ron said. Judy then looked concerned.
"You're scaring us, Sergeant. What's going on?" She asked. Ron then gave a sigh before looking at the cameras. He then looked back to his team, his face serious.
"The victim is Wanda's ex-husband, Johnny 'Black Panther' Alvarez." Ron spoke, making sure the cameras never picked it up. The four of them then gave looks of shock, but Wanda's was the most notable.
"W-what?" Wanda asked.
"I'm gonna have the lab run a DNA test to be sure," Ron said, "but we'll be treating this case with the utmost scrutiny. Even if it isn't him, the victim had his wallet. That means he knows Wanda and Johnny were married because Johnny still had his ZPD Courtesy Card and his family badge in his wallet, as well as Wanda's business card. Whoever killed him is likely gonna try and kill her, but that's just the optics. We investigate this case thoroughly. No shortcuts. Alvarez?"
"Deep background. Friends, family, associates, potential enemies." Wanda said.
"Pride?" Ron asked.
"Neighborhood canvas. See if anyone saw or heard anything last night." Kiara said.
"Hopps? Wilde?" Ron asked.
"Follow up with CSU and the Coroner's Office. Get a confirmation on the ID and the cause of death." Nick said.
"I'll talk to the ZWL. The moment you get the confirmation…." Ron spoke.
"We'll call you." Judy said.
"This stays on the DL. No one else is to know until we get the confirmation." Ron said.
[At the Zootopia Arena….]
Ron approached the arena, seeing that they were setting up for a ZWL show. He then approached someone in a suit who was talking to a group of security guards.
"Excuse me," Ron spoke, "are you the CEO of the ZWL?" The mammal turned around, confused.
"Yes," they said, "I am. Who are you?"
"Sgt. Ron Nolan," Ron introduced, "Zootopia Police SIU. Is there somewhere we can talk privately?" The mammal nodded and motioned towards a production trailer. They approached it and the mammal walked in.
"Clear out for a bit, guys. Private conversation. No cameras and no audio." They said. Everyone inside then walked out and Ron walked in. The mammal then motioned to a seat and Ron sat down.
"Thank you, Mister…." Ron spoke, trailing off.
"Oh," the mammal said, "where are my manners? Lane Kahn." The two shook hands and Ron nodded.
"Thank you, Mr. Kahn." Ron said.
"Would you care for something to drink? Some water? A soda?" Lane asked.
"No thanks. I'm fine." Ron said. Lane then sat down, concerned.
"I heard about two months ago. If you're scared of retribution," Lane said, "I can assure you we don't tolerate assault on law enforcement. He was suspended without pay."
"That's not why I'm here." Ron said. He then got a message and looked at it, seeing it was from Judy. The message read as follows: "I know you said to call, but we don't want to risk anyone tapping the line. They confirmed the ID of the victim as Johnny Alvarez. Time of death was 3:45 AM." Ron gave a sigh and locked his phone.
"Is everything okay? Was there a change in security for tomorrow?" Lane asked.
"Mr. Kahn," Ron spoke, "I'm afraid I'm here as the bearer of bad news."
"The arena didn't change their minds did they?" Lane asked.
"No," Ron said, "I'm afraid this news is much more tragic." Lane then grew even more concerned.
"Sgt. Nolan, you're scaring me. What's going on?" He asked.
"Mr. Kahn," Ron spoke, sighing and going solemn, "there's no easy way to say this."
"Say what?! What are you trying to tell me?!" Lane asked. Ron then gave another sigh to calm his nerves.
"I regret to inform you that one of your wrestlers," Ron spoke, "Johnny Alvarez, was found murdered in Tundratown." Lane's expression went to one of shock.
"What?" He asked.
"I'm sorry," Ron said, "but I'm gonna need to ask you some questions."
"O-of course. W-what did you want to know?" Lane asked.
"When was the last time you saw the victim?" Ron asked, pulling out a notepad and a pen.
"I…. I just saw him last night. He was looking pumped up for his big match tomorrow. It was a qualifier for one of our pay-per-view events." Lane said. Ron took note of it.
"Around what time did you see him last?" Ron asked.
"It was around 10 PM last night. We had dinner at a restaurant in Tundratown." Lane said.
"Was he on edge at all? Did he seem nervous?" Ron asked.
"No," Lane said, "he was completely focused."
"Do you know if he had received any threats from someone outside of the company?" Ron asked.
"Not that I know of." Lane spoke.
"What about from inside the company?" Ron asked.
"Nothing that wasn't part of a promo." Lane said.
"Did he have any enemies? Anyone who wished him harm?" Ron asked.
"No," Lane said, "h-he was loved by everyone. God, his wife must be devastated. D-does Wanda know?"
"She's working the case, too. She's part of the SIU." Ron said.
"God," Lane said, "this must be hard for her."
"Mr. Kahn," Ron spoke, "were you aware that Wanda had filed for divorce?"
"I had heard about it, yes. I…. I didn't think he had signed the papers." Lane said.
"The divorce was expedited. Given his status," Ron said, "and the fact Wanda is ZPD, it would have been all over the place if it became public. Therefore, he never had to sign the papers."
"I see. He had no other family, you know. All his known family died when he was younger." Lane said.
"Would you happen to have a current address for him?" Ron asked.
"M-my secretary can get that information for you." Lane said. Ron nodded.
"Do you give consent for me to gather his personal effects? There might be evidence within. I could also get a warrant if I have to." Ron said.
"No need for a warrant. Take what you need. I give permission." Lane said. Ron nodded and pulled out a business card.
"I'll have some mammals from CSU collect his things. Here's my card. If you think of anything else," Ron said, "even if you don't think it's related, don't hesitate to call me." Lane took the card and Ron put the notepad and pen away. Ron then stood up and Lane looked at him.
"C-could you at least tell me how he died?" Lane asked.
"Unfortunately," Ron said, "I can't divulge that information as the case is still ongoing. We don't want to risk anyone making the wrong assumptions."
"Of course. I…. I understand. If there's anything you need," Lane said, "ZWL will cooperate fully. Even if she divorced Johnny, Wanda is still a part of our ZWL family. Please give her our condolences."
"I will." Ron said, nodding. He went to leave, but Lane stopped him.
"We'll be holding a tribute for him tomorrow instead of what we had planned. I'd like for you and your team to be present for the whole night, if you can." Lane said.
"We'll see." Ron said. Lane nodded and Ron left. Lane left the trailer soon after, before he called everyone inside for a meeting. Ron then dialed a number, the line picking up after a few seconds.
"Zootopia Crime Lab." A voice spoke.
"This is Sgt. Nolan, SIU. I need you to send some CSIs to the Zootopia Arena to pick up the personal effects from Johnny Alvarez's locker." Ron said.
"A team will be there shortly." The voice said. Ron then ended the call and sighed.
[Meanwhile, at SIU Headquarters….]
Wanda sighed as she finished with what she needed as Kiara walked in with Nick and Judy. Nick then whistled, being impressed.
"This is a sweet setup!" Nick spoke.
"We can pretty much monitor everything from here." Judy said.
"Just about." Kiara said. Judy then saw Wanda and went to her.
"How are you holding up?" Judy asked.
"I'm in shock still. I mean…. I was married to him for years." Wanda said.
"We'll find who did this, Wanda." Judy said.
"If you want to sit out," Nick said, "we understand."
"I'll be fine." Wanda said. Kiara then smiled and gave a nod. A few moments later, Ron walked in with some food for everyone.
"Case briefing in the conference room. We'll discuss it over lunch." Ron said. Before anyone could say a word, their stomachs started growling. They followed Ron into the conference room. Ron set the food down and Nick recognized it immediately.
"D-did you get?" Nick asked.
"Relax," Ron said, "I got a vegetarian plate for Judy. I'm not an idiot." Nick eased up and everyone sat down as Ron passed out individual orders.
"How did you know we get this?" Wanda asked.
"I simply asked the guys what you frequently get." Ron said. Judy smiled.
"Every team leader knows the strengths and weaknesses of their team." She spoke. As they all started eating, Ron pulled out his notepad.
"What do we know so far?" Ron asked.
"Victim in the case is Johnny Alvarez," Judy spoke, "more commonly known as 'Black Panther' in the ZWL. He was killed at 3:45 AM. The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the heart. CSU dusted the murder weapon for prints and found nothing."
"Victim had no living relatives," Wanda said, "and he was well liked among his coworkers. Nothing to suggest he had any enemies within ZWL."
"Then we focus on outside ZWL. Former associates," Ron spoke, "disgruntled employees, dropped talents, the works. We need to look at this from all angles and all avenues."
"Neighborhood canvas turned up nothing. They're so afraid of retaliation that anyone who cooperates is viewed as a snitch." Kiara said.
"Looks like Mr. Big can help there." Nick said.
"I spoke to the CEO of ZWL, Lane Kahn. He saw the victim last at around 10 PM last night at a Tundratown restaurant. Never eluded to which one." Ron said.
"Medical examiner found his last meal to be of escargot, chicken, and scallops." Nick said.
"That'll certainly narrow it down a bit." Ron said.
"Only a small amount of restaurants serve those dishes throughout Zootopia," Nick said, "but only two of them are in Tundratown. Closest one to the crime scene is only three blocks away, but they have a waiting list so long it makes even the most hardened criminal's rap sheet look like a single piece of printer paper. The other one is undergoing renovations. However, there IS one place in Tundratown with a menu that changes almost every night they open."
"How far is it from the crime scene?" Ron asked. Nick grinned.
"Five hours away." He spoke.
"Must be underground." Wanda said.
"Nope," Nick said, "it's on the water."
"That would explain it." Kiara said.
"CSU found a hotel key in the victim's wallet. Called the hotel it belonged to," Judy said, "and they said he paid for three weeks. They're a good hour and 45 away from the crime scene."
"Brings up another possibility. Someone could have followed the victim and ambushed them." Kiara said. Nick then had an idea.
"I saw traffic cams near the crime scene. We could have CSU pull the tapes and examine them for any sign of our victim and follow him." Nick suggested.
"Call the courts and get a warrant." Ron said. Judy then grinned.
"I already took care of that. The restaurant the victim went to is the one closest to the crime scene. Waited in line for two hours," Judy said, "and stayed inside for three. Crime scene is 45 minutes away. Cams picked up someone following, but they never showed their face. That restaurant is open 24/7, and they have a camera at their front door. Traffic cam picked up the one following the victim from across the street, but their face was obstructed."
"Looks like we need to see the footage from last night at around 3 AM." Nick said.
"I'll handle that. Nick and Judy," Ron said, "you two go to the Zootopia Arena. Talk to the victim's coworkers and see if any of them are hiding something."
"You got it." Nick said.
"Wanda and I will look into the former ZWL employees in the meantime." Kiara said. They all finished eating and Ron grinned.
"In that case," he spoke, standing up, "you two handle the cleanup." Kiara's eyes widened as Ron left.
"You heard the boss." Nick said, he and Judy following. Wanda then chuckled before looking at Kiara.
"It's because of your sloppy eating." Wanda said. Kiara then looked and her eyes widened as she saw the table was mostly covered with her food. She then sighed before looking at Wanda.
"I wipe the table and you take care of the trash?" Kiara asked.
[At Zootopia Arena….]
Nick and Judy pulled up at the backstage area, Nick sighing.
"Hard to believe that we were here two months ago serving Johnny with the papers." He spoke.
"Now we're here investigating his death." Judy said.
"Think they're still mad?" Nick asked.
"Only one way to know." Judy said. The two then got out and approached a familiar face. Nick had a serious look as the ocelot from two months ago approached him.
"Hope he hasn't held a grudge." Nick said. The ocelot then stopped in front of them.
"I'm here to apologize. What I did was wrong," they said, "and you didn't deserve it. I was a jerk."
"Much as I want to talk about two months ago," Nick said, "we're here about something a bit more recent."
"Johnny's murder. I know. A shame to hear it." The ocelot said.
"Do you know if he had any problems with anyone?" Judy asked.
"Everyone loved him. He played the part of a heel," Johnny said, "but he was kind backstage. He always loved his job."
"I'm sorry," Nick said, "you lost me. He played a heel? What does that mean?"
"It's a wrestling term for a bad guy. There's faces and heels. Faces are good guys." The ocelot explained.
"I see. Did he always play a heel?" Nick asked.
"Somewhat. He was away for quite awhile," the ocelot said, "and the fans loved him. He returned two months ago and got cheers. They were considering giving him a face turn."
"The day he was served the papers is the day he returned?" Judy asked.
"He told me that his one regret was putting his career over his marriage." The ocelot said.
"I see." Judy said, going solemn.
"No one is wanting to talk right now. The only reason I am is because of what I did two months ago. I'm just making amends." The ocelot said. That got Nick's attention.
"You're in a substance abuse program." He concluded.
"I was an alcoholic for the past three years. Two months ago was when I had my last drink. I've been on the wagon ever since." The ocelot said.
"Were you drunk when you went after our Sergeant?" Judy asked.
"Partially. The only way I could keep my job was to go into AA." The ocelot said.
"We probably saved your life then." Nick said.
"Not probably. You DID. You two saved my life and job." The ocelot said.
"Glad you think so highly of us." Judy said.
"I also heard of your first case in the SIU. You definitely needed that two month vacation." The ocelot said. Judy went solemn again, but Nick pulled her close.
"We BOTH did. It was hard on us for two reasons each." Nick said. The ocelot then smiled and nodded.
"Glad you two found each other. Just don't put the job over your relationship. I had a friend who lost someone close to him by doing that." The ocelot said. Nick smiled and gave a nod.
[Meanwhile….]
Ron approached a restaurant that had a massive line. He saw private security, but they paid him no mind. That is, until he tried to enter.
"Hey! Back of the line!" One said.
"ZPD," Ron said, "I'm not here to eat. I need to look at your security footage from around 3 AM. It's for a case." The guard then realized it, pointing towards where the crime scene was. Ron nodded in confirmation. The guard then pulled out a radio.
"I need the manager to the entrance. ZPD on location." They said. The guard motioned for Ron to go in, to which Ron gave a nod. He then walked in and saw someone approach him.
"We never called for ZPD." They said.
"You the manager?" Ron asked.
"I am." The mammal said.
"I'm here on a case. I need to see your security footage from 3 AM." Ron said.
"May I ask what this is about?" The manager asked.
"It's for a murder investigation. That's all I can say." Ron said. The manager soon nodded and led Ron to the security office.
"This is our head of security. He'll be able to assist you." The manager said. Ron nodded and walked in. He then saw Wolford and looked confused.
"When did you start working here?" He asked.
"It's my second job. I already know why you're here. I'm looking at the footage now." Wolford said.
"Anything yet?" Ron asked. Wolford then grinned and paused it.
"You tell me." He said. Ron looked and saw the victim with Lane Kahn, but a mammal across the street had looked at them. Said mammal held a knife, and their face was visible.
"I'm gonna need a copy." Ron said. Wolford then held up a flash drive in an evidence bag.
"No warrant needed." Wolford said, grinning. Ron gave a grin in return and took it.
"Overachiever." Ron said. Wolford chuckled a bit before looking at Ron.
"Did you want a bite before you go? I can pull some strings with the manager." Wolford said.
"Nah," Ron said, "I ate earlier. Besides, this place costs my salary just for an appetizer." A scream then caught his attention and he ran out. He then saw a mammal with a revolver aiming at a waitress and drew his tranquilizer gun. Getting down and tactically moving to a better position.
"You let someone else mark you!" The mammal said.
"I told you we were over! Just leave me alone!" The waitress said. The mammal pulled the hammer of the revolver back.
"If I can't have you," they said, "NO ONE CAN!" Ron then revealed himself, aiming at the mammal.
"ZOOTOPIA POLICE! DROP THE WEAPON!" Ron ordered. The mammal aimed at him and went to fire, only for the revolver to fire off a blank.
"What the?!" The mammal asked.
'He has blanks!' Ron thought. He holstered his tranquilizer gun and pulled out his expandable baton, opening it. The mammal then charged at him with a knife, but Ron disarmed them with the baton before taking them to the ground.
"Paws behind your back!" Ron said. The mammal tried to struggle, but Wolford ran up and assisted Ron.
"Don't try and struggle." Wolford said. Ron then cuffed the mammal and pulled out his radio.
"SIU Sergeant to Central," Ron spoke, "requesting ZFD and a unit for transport at my current location. ZFD and transport to respond code one."
"Copy that. Transport unit is en route now. ZFD is on scene on an unrelated matter," Clawhauser said, "but we'll advise to have them assist."
"Copy." Ron said. He then closed the baton and put it away, going to the waitress and checking on them.
'Thank God I was here.' Ron thought.
"Are you okay, miss?" Ron asked. The waitress then hugged Ron tight.
"You saved my life! Thank you!" She said. Two ZPD Officers then went to Wolford who had picked the suspect up. Everyone cheered and applauded at the heroism that Ron showed. Two paramedics then approached and the waitress let Ron go. The paramedics then started evaluating the waitress as the manager approached Ron.
"I know you're here on business," they said, "but… would you care to sit and dine?"
"No thanks. I would like some coffee to-go." Ron said.
"Just coffee?" The manager asked.
"It's all I can really afford from here." Ron said.
"Nonsense. You're not paying anything. It's on the house." The manager said.
"I couldn't." Ron said.
"I insist! I'll even throw in some breadsticks for you to share! It's my way of thanking you for helping to save one of my waitresses." The manager said. Ron then gave a sigh before thinking about it.
"Throw in some VIP passes for my team and you got a deal." Ron said.
"Consider it done!" The manager said.
[At SIU Headquarters….]
Kiara sighed as she finished wiping down the conference room table. Nick and Judy walked in and Nick whistled.
"Did you replace the table? It looks brand new!" Nick said. Kiara rolled her eyes and Judy giggled. Wanda then walked in and looked at them.
"You two find anything?" Wanda asked.
"Only the victim regretted putting his career over his marriage." Nick said.
"Too little, too late." Wanda said.
"What about you two?" Judy asked.
"No one really stuck out. Not even a single threat was uttered the victim's way." Kiara said.
"So," Nick spoke, "to put simply, you found nothing."
"Pretty much." Wanda said. Ron then walked in with coffee and a bag. All four of them looked at Ron.
"Did you stop for coffee?" Judy asked.
"Came from the restaurant the victim was at. Saved a waitress' life." Ron said.
"In the bag?" Nick asked.
"Breadsticks for all of us to share." Ron said.
"What else did they give you? VIP passes for us?" Nick asked, grinning.
"Yes, actually." Ron said. Nick's face went to a look of shock.
"Seriously?" Judy asked.
"Yup." Ron said. He set the coffee down and pulled the passes out.
"What's the expiry?" Kiara asked.
"There isn't one. These are ultimate black level VIP passes." Ron said.
"Say WHAT?!" Nick asked.
"Those are reserved for CEOs and high ranking government officials!" Judy said.
"How did you manage to talk the manager into giving you THAT level?!" Wanda asked.
"Didn't take much. Just did my job. They wanted to thank me," Ron said, "and I refused saying I didn't make enough. Boy, I wasn't kidding. I might NEVER make enough. The manager said it was free of charge, even threw in the breadsticks. Told them they had a deal if they added VIP passes. Said I had earned that level for all the work I did, and what I went through. Felt you four deserved the same." They took the passes and Judy was shocked.
"Unbelievable." She said.
"Also," Ron said, "I learned something interesting. Wolford is head of security." This stunned Nick.
"No way." He spoke.
"Yeah. He even had the footage I needed downloaded before I got there." Ron said.
"Guess we know who to call for some food." Kiara said.
"CSU's running the video now. Hopefully they get an ID on our suspect." Ron said. They all got some coffee before sipping it simultaneously.
"Ooh, yeah. That hits the spot." Nick said.
"Glad caffeine isn't considered a drug." Kiara said.
"You know it." Judy said. Ron then got a call and he answered it.
"Nolan." Ron spoke. No sooner did he say it. Someone started talking on the other end. However, it was indistinct for the others. Ron's expression then went serious.
'That might not be good.' Nick thought.
"Alright," Ron said, "thanks for informing me." He then hung up, Nick looking worried.
"Everything okay?" Nick asked.
"That was Wolford. ZFP just tried to poach our investigation." Ron said.
"They what?!" Judy asked.
"Why did they try and do that?!" Kiara asked.
"Because the one in the video is a rogue ZFP Agent. They don't want it getting leaked." Ron said. Ron then got a text and got even more serious.
"More trouble?" Nick asked.
"We got the name of the ZFP Agent," Ron said, "and his address. We can finish the coffee on the way." Ron set his coffee down and opened a locker with his last name at it. He then pulled out a tactical vest and the others followed suit.
"Is SWAT gonna meet us there?" Nick asked.
"Knowing ZFP," Ron said, "they've probably tapped SWAT's radios." Ron then grabbed a M4A1 Carbine Rifle with Foregrip, Blue Dot Sight, and Tactical Light attachments.
"Isn't that a bit extreme?" Wanda asked.
"Can't be too cautious with ZFP. They have things the ZPD can only salivate over." Ron said.
"It makes sense, too. If ZFP tried to poach our investigation," Judy said, "no doubt they'll try and protect their rogue agent." The others grabbed their respective rifles and closed their lockers.
"Any plans on how to do this?" Nick asked.
"Yeah," Ron said, "swift and silent."
"Copy that." Nick said. The five of them then left, grabbing their coffees on the way out.
[At the suspect's address….]
A lone mammal was sitting on a couch, sipping some whiskey while watching an adult movie. Unbeknownst to them, trouble was right outside their door. Ron and the others had stacked up against the house, their demeanors serious. Ron motioned for Nick to go on the other side and peek in. Nick did just that, being stealthy about it, before giving a nod. The volume on the TV was all the way up, so the mammal didn't hear the door handle rattle as Nick checked it. Nick then nodded to Kiara, who moved next to him, stood near the door, and kicked it in. The sound caused the mammal to jump and look as Ron entered.
"ZOOTOPIA POLICE! GET ON THE GROUND!" Ron ordered. The others entered behind him and the mammal tried to run. However, Judy got in his path, aiming her rifle at him.
"Give me a reason. Go ahead." She spoke. The mammal slowly started to raise their hands, but Nick held his rifle to the back of their head.
"Try it and your brain will coat the wall." He said. The mammal sighed and got on the ground. Nick moved his rifle aside before pulling out some cuffs and restraining the mammal. As he did that, Kiara and Wanda walked out with four more mammals in cuffs.
"Looks like we uncovered an entire cell." Kiara said. Ron then went to the one Nick and Judy had, kneeling down.
"You're a damn disgrace to the ZFP." He spoke. The mammal looked at Ron, stunned. One of the other four then looked at Ron.
"He's a cop?" They asked.
"Not for long. Don't think we aren't up to date on wanted felons. You four are taking a ride, too." Ron said. Wanda then pulled out her radio, passing one of the mammals to Judy.
"SIU Portable to Central," she spoke, "requesting four transport units from FTF to our location. Advise SVU and ZFD to respond as well."
"Copy. Units en route now." Clawhauser said. Nick then picked the mammal off the ground before Ron walked over and took them. He then led him out as the others did the same with the other mammals. As they walked out, two vehicles pulled up and mammals got out, but one of them got pissed.
"DAMN IT!" They said.
"Nice try. You can't protect your agent." Ron said. More ZPD units pulled up and the Officers took the mammals, save for the rogue agent, before young females ran out of the house and into the arms of different Officers and SVU Detectives.
"Do you have any idea what you've just done?!" The pissed one spoke.
"My job." Ron said.
"You just ruined a five-month trafficking case!" The pissed one said.
"Your agent did that when he killed another mammal! That's why you tried poaching the case from us." Ron said.
"How did?!" The pissed one asked.
"I got a heads up from the restaurant's head of security. You can expect a complaint to your Director about this." Ron said. Time slowed for the rogue agent as Ron read him his rights, putting him in the back of his vehicle. The other ZFP agents looked on in utter disbelief.
"HEY!" Nick yelled, snapping the agent out of it.
"Huh?" They asked.
"Did you understand the rights read to you?" Nick asked.
"Oh," the agent said, "y-yeah. I understand my rights. I wish to speak with an attorney."
"Don't worry, Sal! We're getting you out of this!" An agent said. Ron then closed the door and looked at them.
"You better not try and sabotage my investigation. It's bad enough I had to tell the CEO of ZWL one of his talents was murdered. How do you think all of Zootopia will act if they hear ZFP is hindering a murder investigation? You want to help him out? Stay out of the SIU's way." Ron spoke. He then opened the driver's side door and got in.
[At SIU Headquarters….]
Three mammals walked in, one of them dejected. Nick and Judy then approached them.
"I thought our Sergeant made it clear that ZFP was to stay out." Nick said.
"Relax. We come in peace. I'm the ZFP Director, Toni DiCaprio. I want to apologize for the behavior of my agents. Is your Sergeant here?" One said.
"He's currently interrogating one of your agents." Judy said. Director DiCaprio sighed, looking at the dejected mammal.
"This is why you clear all undercover operations with me first." She said.
"Yes, ma'am." The mammal said.
[Meanwhile….]
Ron was sitting in front of the rogue ZFP agent, who had a look of regret on their face.
"You've heard of me, right?" Ron asked.
"You're a legend. The last member of the ZPD Straight Edge Society. The only victim of Night Howlers who fought the effects without medications." The agent said. Ron then opened a file.
"You've got an impressive record, too, Agent Romano. Even on the fast track to becoming SAC of the Tundratown Field Office. My question is simple. Why would you throw away such a successful career for the life of one mammal?" Ron asked.
"I was told by my boss it was an undercover op. Deep cover." Romano said.
"How deep?" Ron asked. Romano sighed.
"This isn't the first time I had to kill." Romano said. Ron then went on alert.
"How many times?" Ron asked.
"Total of eight." Romano said.
"In five months?" Ron asked.
"Yeah. My boss always squashed the investigations. Couldn't stop yours in time, I guess." Romano said. Ron then slid over a legal pad and a pen.
"Write down everything. All you did. No detail spared." Ron said. Romano picked the pen up and started writing. Ron then stood up and walked out as Judy stood at the door.
"ZFP Director's here." She spoke. Romano kept writing and Ron stepped out, Judy then closed the door.
"I want to apologize for my agent's actions, Sgt. Nolan." Director DiCaprio spoke.
"Agent Romano just told me this isn't the first time. He's had to kill a total of EIGHT times in the five months he was supposedly undercover. All the investigations were squashed by his boss." Ron said.
"Say what now?!" Judy asked.
"He's writing down everything." Ron said. Director DiCaprio then looked at the two behind her and one looked at another.
"You knew?" She asked.
"If this is about case integrity," Ron said, "there's only so much that can be done."
"Do you not care about him? He's just confessed to eight murders!" One of the two said. Nick then ran up.
"Boss," he said, "you're never gonna believe this. The fugitives gave the names of their associates, and they all mentioned that our ZFP friend in there doesn't deserve his career to be ruined because someone didn't follow the chain of command. They'll testify to that before a grand jury."
"Your not saying anything about this. Why?" Judy asked, looking at the dejected mammal.
"Because he knows it won't matter. He signed Romano's death certificate when he sent him undercover." Ron said.
"This case went unsolved for years. I was trying to bring closure to the families." The dejected mammal said.
"While the intentions were good," Director DiCaprio said, "you tarnished the reputation of a well-decorated ZFP Agent by sending him on an unauthorized undercover mission. The moment you knew he was in trouble, you should have pulled him. Instead, your actions caused him to go in too deep. You lit a damn match, and now I have to deal with the fire."
"I put in requests to you for three months before I did send him." The dejected one spoke.
"Because you were trying to solve a case that had political fallout!" Director DiCaprio said.
"I did what was necessary for the sake of the investigation!" The dejected one spoke.
"Well you just screwed your chance of ever becoming SAC because of it." Director DiCaprio said, her tone serious.
"Be lucky I haven't charged you with Obstruction of Justice." Ron said.
"God knows he should." Judy said.
"Why haven't you?" Nick asked.
"Because I didn't have the evidence until now." Ron said.
"After this investigation is over," Director DiCaprio said, "I want your gun and badge on my desk. You're terminated as of tomorrow."
"Did you want to speak with Romano before we take him?" Ron asked.
"I will, yes. Does he have an attorney?" Director DiCaprio said.
"He waived his rights. Said he would plead guilty." Ron said.
"His gun and badge are still at his desk." The other agent said. Ron then opened the door and Romano looked up, seeing Director DiCaprio walk in.
"Director." He said.
"I hear you're taking a guilty plea." Director DiCaprio said.
"I am. I'm sorry for everything." Romano spoke. Ron walked in and Romano sighed.
"All finished?" Ron asked.
"Yes. My full confession." Romano said.
"I'd like a copy of it." Director DiCaprio said.
"I'll have the DA give you one." Ron said. Two ZPD Officers then walked in and Romano stood up.
"It's been an honor and pleasure, ma'am." Romano said.
"I'm sorry, Romano." Director DiCaprio said. The Officers then took Romano and walked him out.
[The next day….]
Ron and the others sat in a courtroom, watching as it was Romano's turn to be arraigned.
"Docket ending 1-4-9-9-1. City of Zootopia v. Sal Romano. Eight counts of Murder in the First Degree." The bailiff said.
"Miles Clawsworth for the City, Your Honor." Miles spoke.
"Does the defendant have council?" The judge asked.
"He's waived council, Your Honor." Miles said.
"How does the defendant plea?" The judge asked.
"Guilty, Your Honor." Romano said. The judge looked shocked.
"You admit to your crimes?" They asked.
"Your Honor," Miles said, "the defendant had agreed to a plea deal. He was tricked into going undercover by his superior at ZFP, who valued the case he was working over the defendant's safety. As such, to keep his cover from getting blown, he was forced to kill eight mammals. The first seven cases were never pursued as his superior had obstructed the cases, but the eighth case went unobstructed. Given the severity of his crimes, one would normally be sentenced to death. However, given he was tricked, he was offered a deal. His testimony of his crimes as evidence to his superior's obstruction for immunity on the charges and a five-month suspension from ZFP."
"Does the City have this deal in writing?" The judge asked.
"We do, Your Honor. This was agreed upon last night." Miles said.
"Will the arresting officer approach?" The judge asked. Ron then stood up and approached the Prosecutor's bench.
"Sgt. Ron Nolan, Zootopia Police Special Investigations Unit." Ron spoke.
"Were you aware of this deal after interrogation, Sergeant?" The judge asked.
"I'm the one who proposed it. The defendant is a highly decorated ZFP Agent who was subjected to horrors beyond our control. He showed IMMEDIATE regret at the time of arrest," Ron spoke, "and four fugitives had given testimony to a grand jury on his behalf after learning of his superior's treachery. They all agreed he shouldn't lose his job from being deceived." The judge thought about it before nodding.
"Very well. The court accepts the City's proposal." The judge said, tapping the gavel down once.
"Thank you, Your Honor." Miles said.
"Agent Romano," the judge said, "you are free to go. Court is adjourned for a 10 minute recess." Everyone walked out and Miles smiled.
"Nice work." He said. Romano then smiled as he was soon embraced by other ZFP Agents. Director DiCaprio then approached Ron, confused.
"Why would you propose a deal like that?" She asked. Ron then smiled and looked at Romano being embraced.
"Rule 5." Ron spoke. He then walked to where Judy and the others were, Director DiCaprio shocked for a bit before smiling and chuckling.
"What now, boss? Still have a bit of time before we attend the tribute." Nick asked. Ron then thought about it for a bit.
"I have an idea." Ron said.
[At the Zootopia Police Academy….]
A fresh batch of recruits was undergoing self-defense training. Each one was panting as the Drill Sergeant shook her head.
"You all are pathetic." She said.
"Perhaps we need to give them some pointers." A voice spoke. The Drill Sergeant gasped and looked behind her, smiling brightly.
"Aw, shit! They must think I need help!" She said. Ron and the others then approached, Nick smiling.
"Admit it, Drill. You missed us." Nick spoke.
"About as much as an impacted wisdom tooth, black tip!" The Drill Sergeant said.
"You saying we need to be surgically removed?" Ron asked. The Drill Sergeant laughed a bit.
"What brings the SIU here? Stroll down memory lane?" She asked.
"Wanted to see the next batch of recruits." Ron said.
"Jeez. Who did you get for self-defense training? These guys look like crap." Kiara said.
"That would be us." A voice said. They looked and Judy's jaw dropped and eyes widened, her ears going back. Nick's did the same. Wanda and Kiara were stunned, the both of them speechless. Ron gave a slight glare before sighing.
"Why the fuck are two ZI6 Agents here?" He asked.
"They offered to fill in because our normal one called in sick." The Drill Sergeant said.
"You seem surprised to see us." Another voice said. Wanda then looked at Ron.
"You know them?" She asked. Ron then gave a light glare.
"They're the ones who mandated the Night Howler vaccine," Ron said, "and made it to where mammals could barely afford it without having government assistance." Inside the ring stood a vixen and a rabbit.
"You're exaggerating." The rabbit said.
"Who are they?" Kiara asked.
"Meet ZI6 Agents Jack Savage and Skye Forrester." Ron said. That got Nick's attention.
"Forrester?!" He asked.
"If you couldn't guess," Ron spoke, "she's Nikki's sister." Jack then looked at Nick before scoffing.
"A fox in ZPD. How bored was Bogo? I bet you conned your way in." He spoke. That caused Judy to glare.
"I suggest you watch your words considering this fox helped take down Bellwether." Judy spoke, defending Nick.
"Please. Once a con artist, always a con artist." Jack said.
"Then what about YOUR partner? Are you calling her one, too?" Judy asked.
"Ooh." The recruits sounded. Jack's demeanor shook a bit.
"Are you calling me prejudiced?" He asked.
"What do YOU think? Your ZI6 after all. I'm just a dumb bunny in the ZPD SIU." Judy said.
"You're in the SIU?!" Skye asked, shocked.
"So is my partner, by the way." Judy said.
"That fox is your partner? Hah! This is too rich!" Jack said.
"We're also the ones responsible for getting YOUR partner's sister's killer." Judy said. That made Jack shut up. Skye got out of the ring and approached Nick and Judy.
"I thought you two were familiar. I hear you took a two month vacation after to recover from the trauma." She said.
"We had. Visited my family in Bunnyburrow." Judy said.
"How's your niece doing?" Ron asked. Skye looked at him, shocked.
"She's doing okay. I'm raising her as I'm the only other family Nikki had." She spoke. Ron nodded.
"Tell her 'Fwuffy' says 'hi' when you see her." Ron spoke.
"What?!" Jack asked.
"That was her name for me when I was watching her before CPS picked her up the next day." Ron said. Skye was even more shocked, but nodded.
"I'll let her know." She said. Jack scoffed again before rolling his eyes.
"How does a wimp like him become leader of SIU?" Jack asked. That pissed Nick off.
"What did you just say about him?!" Nick asked.
"Did I stud- OOF!" Jack exclaimed, getting punched by Judy. Jack then hit the ground before looking at Judy in shock.
"Don't you EVER call him a wimp again. He's been through Hell. He was abandoned in Downtown Zootopia as a cub. He survived the effects of Night Howlers without medication. He had to kill his biological father! He's the ONLY remaining member of the ZPD Straight Edge Society! He DESERVES to lead the SIU because he EARNED it! Just like my partner EARNED his spot in ZPD! If you EVER call my Sergeant a wimp, or my partner a con artist, again, you'll have EARNED the ass-kicking I'll give you! You understand that, rabbit stew?!" Judy asked, pissed off. The Drill Sergeant was shocked beyond belief. Jack then got up, still shocked. However, it soon turned into a grin.
"You're just too cute. Your Sergeant must be a wimp if YOU have to fight his battles for hi- GWOGH!" Jack exclaimed, getting cut of by Judy punching him again. This time, however, she grabbed him by his ears and threw him against the ropes, taking him down with a clothesline. Jack tried to attack, but Judy was faster and kneed him in the head before he jumped up. However, Judy took advantage of it and caught him by the throat, gripping it tight. He soon gasped for air as he tried to get Judy's paw off his neck. Judy gave a glare before slamming him down, the sound resonating.
"Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark!" Kiara said, wincing. Wanda looked at Skye.
"Aren't you gonna help him?" She asked.
"He brought this upon himself." Skye said. Jack then got up, charging at Judy. Judy then moved before kicking him below his chin, the sound of the impact causing a few of the recruits to flinch. Jack stumbled back a bit, but shook it off and went for a punch. Judy caught it before delivering a punch of her own, causing teeth to fly out of Jack's mouth and onto the ring mat. Jack then spit up blood before looking at Judy.
"I'll have your badge." Jack said.
"Try and take it. You won't win." Judy said.
"How do you know?" Jack asked, getting to his feet.
"Because your partner won't have your back like mine will." Judy said. Jack then glared and charged, but Judy caught him with her arm around his head and lunged forwards before twisting her body and slamming him, face down, to the mat, knocking him out. Judy then crawled backwards before standing up.
"Whoa!" A recruit said.
"Wasn't that Black Panther's finisher?!" Another asked. Judy then went to leave the ring, but stopped and looked back.
"One last thing," Judy said, her expression serious, "and this is because you're at the ZPD Academy. You're 'dead,' fox chow." Judy then got out of the ring and Skye went in, sighing.
"He needs to learn to keep his mouth shut." Skye said. She then picked him up and threw him over her shoulder. He then groaned.
"Don't eat me. I have a family." Jack mumbled. Skye then left the ring and walked away with Jack over her shoulder.
"I'll get him checked out." She said. The Drill Sergeant went to Judy, shocked.
"You still got it, fluff butt!" She spoke.
"Damn right, I do." Judy said. Nick then went to Judy and looked her over.
"Sheesh! You worked him good, Carrots." Nick said.
"You'd do the same if the roles were reversed." Judy said. Ron then looked at the time and nodded.
"Alright," he spoke, "we can get her checked out later. Right now, we have something to prepare for."
"Huh?" A recruit asked.
"You'll see tonight." The Drill Sergeant said.
[Hours later….]
Nick and Judy were at home, looking to relax before the tribute. Nick sighed as he finished wrapping Judy's paws. Judy winced a bit, but it soon went away.
"Jeez, Judy. Remind me not to piss you off." Nick spoke. Judy then looked solemn and looked into Nick's eyes.
"You're not jealous, right?" Judy asked.
"What? Because of that rabbit? Why would I be jealous of him? My badass, bunny girlfriend turned that bigot into fox chow. I have no REASON to be jealous of him." Nick said. Judy then smiled and Nick hugged her. She returned the hug and rubbed his back.
"Thanks, Nick." Judy spoke.
"We still have a bit before we have to be at the tribute. Ron said to be there in our formals." Nick said. Judy then gave a soft smile before leaning closer to Nick.
"I know of one way to kill the time." Judy spoke. Nick caught on and the two kissed, starting a make-out session.
'God, I love her.' Nick thought. He then held her close, her wrapping her legs around his waist. Judy gave a soft moan before they broke the kiss. Nick looked at her, lightly panting.
"I love you, Judy." Nick said.
"I love you, too, Nick." Judy said. Nick then got a whiff of himself and recoiled.
"Whew! I need a shower." He said. Judy giggled before smiling bright.
"We could take one together." She suggested.
"Is this about conserving water," Nick spoke, "or do you have other motives?"
"Strictly about conserving water. I promise." Judy spoke. Nick gave a smile and nodded. He then carried Judy up the stairs and into the master bathroom, starting the shower. Judy got down and undressed before going in. Nick undressed soon after and did the same. Judy then started to lather up, but Nick took over for her. He made sure to get every inch of her, causing her to stifle a few moans.
"You okay?" Nick asked.
"Y-yeah. Just… trying not to enjoy this. I'm certain that you wouldn't want to mark me just yet. We haven't really been on that many dates." Judy said. Nick looked offended, but soon caught on.
"Sorry about that, Jude. Thank you for saying something." Nick said.
"It's nothing towards you, Nick. Your paws are just too good." Judy said.
"Phrasing, fluff." Nick said. Judy gave a look feigning offense before lightly slapping Nick's chest.
"Not in THAT way, Nick." She said. Nick chuckles before smiling brightly. Judy then giggled as Nick started to wash himself. Judy got out, grabbing a towel and drying off before going and getting her formal uniform. She grabbed Nick's, too, and set it out. She then started to get dressed, only to stop when her phone rang. She looked at it and saw it was her mom.
'Is she worrying again?' Judy thought. She then answered the call and smiled.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hi, Aunt Judy!" A voice said. Judy's face went to a look of surprise.
"Cotton?!" She asked.
"I asked grandma if I could call you from her phone. It's important." Cotton spoke.
"What's going on?" Judy asked, straightening her uniform.
"I think one of my teachers might be a pedophile." Cotton said. This got Judy's attention.
"Why do you say that?" Judy asked.
"Because he keeps asking to see my 'burrow,' if you catch the meaning." Cotton said. Judy's look went to one of fuming anger.
"He what?" She asked. Nick walked out, drying off, and saw her on the phone.
"I'm not the only one either. Some of my friends had been asked the same. He even had inappropriate pictures on his phone of my friends. They all looked scared." Cotton said.
"Does he know I'm in the ZPD?" Judy asked. Nick looked concerned, still listening.
"No," Cotton said, "but he said he had a brother in ZI6. Someone by the code '005.' Not sure if that helps."
"I'll talk to Ron about that." Judy said.
'Why did she bring up Ron?' Nick thought.
"Oh," Cotton said, "before I forget, the field trip is two weeks away. Wanted to let you know so you and Mr. Nick could get it all out of your system before I stayed the weekend." Judy then blushed.
"We're not ready for that yet." She mumbled.
"Just saying." Cotton said. Judy then cleared her throat, composing herself.
"Thanks for letting me know, Cotton. I'll make sure to look into it." Judy said.
"Thanks, Aunt Judy! Talk to you soon!" Cotton said. Judy then smiled and giggled a bit.
"Talk to you soon." She said. Judy then hung up, Nick hugging her from behind.
"Everything okay?" Nick asked. Judy sighed before shaking her head.
"Cotton suspects one of her teachers is a pedophile." Judy spoke. Nick went on alert before getting serious.
"Was she hurt?" Nick asked.
"No," Judy said, "but she did say something about inappropriate pictures of her friends on said teacher's phone." Nick then straightened his formal uniform before getting dressed. Judy then looked concerned.
'Nick?' Judy thought.
"We need to tell Ron. Sooner rather than later." Nick said.
"Nick," Judy said, putting a calming paw on his arm, "is everything alright?" Nick then sighed before looking at her.
"I'm scared for your niece, Judy." Nick said. Judy was shocked, but gave a soft smile.
"What did I ever do to deserve you?" Judy asked. Nick then finished getting dressed, looking at her.
"I could ask you the same." Nick said. He then left the room and Judy got dressed. The two walked out and went to their vehicle. Judy then drove to SIU Headquarters, seeing Ron with Wanda and Kiara. They got out and Nick got serious. The three laughed about something before Ron looked and saw Nick's face.
"What's got you all serious? Someone piss in your blueberries?" Ron asked.
"Judy's niece, Cotton, suspects one of her teachers to be a pedophile." Nick said. Ron then got pissed, forming a fist.
"Which teacher?" Ron asked.
"All I know is said teacher's brother is in ZI6 with the code '005.' Does that help?" Judy asked. Ron got even more pissed, pulling out his phone.
"More than you know. Load up!" Ron said. He then dialed a number and everyone got in their cars. Someone on the other line picked up.
"Hello?" A voice asked.
"It's Nolan. My team and I need permission to operate in Bunnyburrow. The niece of one of my team suspects their teacher of being a pedophile." Ron said.
"Why should I let it happen? One of your team beat the tar out of my partner." The voice asked.
"Because said teacher is 005's brother." Ron said. The line went quiet for a bit.
"You still have time before the tribute tonight," the voice said, "and they had to extend the school day because of a gas leak. I'll meet you there."
[At Cotton's school….]
Cotton was working on a project when her teacher approached her.
"Have you finished your assignment?" They asked.
"Yes, sir." Cotton said.
"Hmm… see, I don't believe you. I think you're slacking off." The teacher said.
"I'm working on a project worth half my grade in another class. I have a written note giving me permission to work on it." Cotton said.
"I don't believe that either. Do what I assigned you before you get detention." The teacher said. The door to the classroom then swung open and everyone looked. Standing in the doorway, in their formal uniforms, were the ZPD SIU.
'Aunt Judy! Mr. Nick! Sgt. Nolan!' Cotton thought. The teacher looked confused as they all entered.
"Can I help you?" He asked. Ron then held up a piece of paper.
"We have a warrant to search your phone and computer." He spoke.
"On what grounds?!" The teacher asked.
"How about suspicions of child pornography?" A voice asked. The teacher looked and tensed up. Approaching him, not looking happy, was Skye Forrester. Nick stayed with the teacher as Kiara and Wanda searched his phone and computer. Judy found a second computer and the teacher got pissed.
"You can't go through that one!" He said.
"The warrant says we can go through all electronic devices in your possession." Judy said. The teacher grit his teeth and Kiara looked at Ron.
"Got something." She said. Ron and Skye went over.
"What do you got?" Ron asked. Kiara then showed it to them, making sure the students didn't see it. Skye and Ron had stoic expressions, but inside they were fuming. Judy then went over and showed them something she had found on the laptop.
"Looks like he's been busy." Judy whispered. Wanda then got visibly tense, turning the phone and looking away, putting a hand over her mouth.
"Oh, God. I think I'm gonna be sick." She said. Kiara then looked at Wanda in concern.
"Everything alright?" She asked. Wanda slid the phone over.
"See for yourself." Wanda spoke, trying not to gag. Skye then grabbed the phone and turned it over once more, her eyes going wide in pure anger. Kiara immediately grabbed a trash can, going over to Wanda, as Ron and Judy glared at the teacher. Skye then locked the phone and set it down, her expression showing murderous intent.
"Detective Wilde," Skye spoke, "arrest that disgrace of a teacher."
"With pleasure." Nick said, pulling out cuffs. The teacher then grabbed Cotton by her neck, looking to hold her hostage. However, Cotton turned the tables on him by flipping out of his grasp and forcing him down to the floor.
"GAWK!" The teacher exclaimed, his head hitting a desk on the way down. Ron then ran over and helped Nick and Judy ran to Cotton.
"Are you okay?" Judy asked. Cotton hugged Judy tight, tears forming. Kiara then put the phone, laptop, and computer hard drive into evidence bags as Nick lifted the teacher up.
"You can't do this! My brother is in ZI6!" He said.
"So am I," Skye said, "and your brother got his ass handed to him by Detective Hopps." That caused Nick's blood to boil.
"You're Jack Savage's brother?!" Nick asked.
"It's '005' to you, con artist." The teacher seethed.
"Bigotry must run in the family then." Ron said.
"It must." Nick said.
"You're under arrest for Possession and Sale of Child Pornography, each one a separate charge." Ron said.
"I'll stay with the children until the principal is free. Get that creep out." Judy said.
"I'll get Alvarez to the nurse." Kiara said.
"I'll do that. You and Forrester get the evidence secured." Ron said.
"How did we go from being at each others throats to working together?" Skye asked.
"Simple. Children are involved." Ron said. Ron then went to Wanda, helping her out of the room as she held the trash can. Nick led the teacher out by the arm, the teacher hitting the door frame trying to resist.
'Idiot.' Nick thought. Kiara and Skye then left with the evidence and Judy comforted Cotton.
"It's okay. It's okay. He can't hurt you now." Judy spoke. Judy then looked at the doorway, seeing what looked to be Nikki's spirit.
'Huh?' Judy thought. Nikki's spirit then smiled before walking away, fading into nothing. Al then ran into the room, panting as he approached.
"Is Cotton okay?" He asked. A whole other class then ran in and checked on the other students.
"She'll be fine. Just be sure to tell her parents." Judy said. Al then looked solemn before looking at Cotton.
"I don't think I'll be able to." He said. Judy caught on and looked at Cotton.
"Did something happen?" Judy asked.
"Mom and dad were in an accident on their way here. They didn't make it." Cotton said, tears now falling. Judy then hugged her, fighting back tears of her own. Nick then walked back in and went to Judy and Cotton, hugging them both.
"N-Nick?" Judy asked, shocked.
"Your parents just told me. They didn't want to bother you with it." Nick said. Judy then started shedding tears and gave a quiet sob as Nick comforted both her and Cotton.
'I think I know what needs to be done,' Nick thought, 'but I hope I make the right call.' The teacher of the other class then walked in with the principal.
"Alright," the principal said, "everyone get your things. The field trip has been moved up to tomorrow, and school will be out the remainder of the year. I've already told your families, and all of you will be moving to the next grade." Stu and Bonnie then ran in and went to Nick.
"Nick," Stu said, "your Sergeant needs your help." Nick then looked at him.
"What's going on?" Nick asked.
"Your suspect broke out of his restraints and is fighting with him!" Bonnie said.
"What?!" Nick asked. Cotton gasped and ran out.
"Cotton, no! It's too dangerous!" Al said. Judy and Nick ran after her, Al following. Cotton then saw Ron holding back a knife the teacher held and charged at him, tackling him to the ground and knocking him out.
"Holy shit!" Nick said.
"And they say wolves are fur missiles!" Al said. Ron panted heavily as Judy ran to the teacher and cuffed him with a sturdier set. Cotton went to Ron, checking him.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah. Bastard probably cracked a few ribs," Ron said, "but I'll be good. Help me sit up."
"I got you, boss." Nick said. He then helped Ron sit up as Wanda ran out with the school nurse.
"He okay?!" Wanda asked.
"Might have some cracked ribs," Nick said, "but he'll be good!" Al then went to Cotton.
"Jeez, Cotton! You're making us wolves look bad taking him down like that!" He spoke.
"I don't even know what came over me! I just saw he needed help and my body acted on its own!" Cotton said.
"Definitely ZPD material." Nick said.
"Too right." Ron said, struggling not to chuckle. Skye and Kiara ran over, the former looking panicked, and went to Ron.
"Does he need a hospital?" Kiara asked.
"Nah," Ron said, "just get me a sports drink. I'll be fine."
"Straight Edge for life, huh?" Skye asked.
"That a problem?" Ron asked.
"No," Skye said, "I'm impressed by it."
"The field trip was moved to tomorrow." Al said.
"We'll be ready." Ron said.
[Later that night….]
Ron and the others stood in front of a camera as ZWL wrestlers were behind them. Lane Kahn was next to Ron as he looked solemn.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Lane spoke, talking into a microphone, "tonight won't be going as planned. For yesterday morning, at 3:45 AM, we lost an important member of our ZWL family. I now pass the mic off to ZPD Sgt. Ron Nolan." Lane handed the mic to Ron, who took it, nodding.
"Thank you, Mr. Kahn. Ladies and gentlemen," Ron spoke, "my name is Sgt. Ron Nolan of the Zootopia Police Special Investigations Unit. At 3:45 AM yesterday, a body was discovered in Tundratown. Later that morning, my team and I were assigned to investigate. It is with great sorrow that I inform you all… that Johnny Alvarez, better known to everyone as Black Panther,… was the victim in the case. He had been murdered as part of a rogue ZFP operation, and the ones responsible have been charged. In honor of his memory, we ask that everyone capable please rise, remove all non-religious head coverings, and place a paw over your hearts as a 10-bell salute is done, followed by TAPS, which will be performed by a member of the Marines Drum and Bugle Corps." Ron gave the mic back to Lane, who took it.
'Such professionalism.' Lane thought. Ron then went to the position of attention, his look serious.
"Squad," Ron spoke, "ATTENTION!" Nick, Judy, Wanda, and Kiara then snapped to attention.
'Time for a final send-off for a ZWL legend.' Lane thought.
"Present… ARMS!" Ron barked. The five of them then slowly gave salutes as the bell keeper gave a slow, solemn 10-bell salute. As this happened, a Marine in their dress uniform was inside the ring, a bugle in their paws, prepared to play as a lantern with an urn was in the center of the ring. The moment the final bell rang, the Marine rose the bugle to their mouth, waiting a few moments before playing. As TAPS played, the lights dimmed and a few wrestlers teared up. Wanda then saw Johnny's spirit in the ring, but her expression was stoic. Johnny then used sign language to say he was sorry to her, which caused a single tear to fall from her face. The Marine then finished playing and lowered the bugle to their side before slowly saluting.
'If you were still alive,' Wanda thought, 'we would have been great friends.'
"Order… ARMS!" Ron barked. The six then lowered their salutes slowly and Lane held the mic up.
"Unleash the fireflies," he spoke, "and follow the buzzards! Rest in peace, Black Panther!" The lights of phones then turned on as the crowd cheered and applauded. The chorus of 'Shatter' by Code Orange played, causing Johnny's spirit to smile and turn into fireflies that flew into the spotlight that was over the lantern and urn in the center of the ring.
[Later….]
Nick was lying in bed with Judy. Judy was asleep, but Nick was wide awake. Judy then woke up, looking at Nick in concern.
"Is everything okay?" She asked. Nick sighed and sat up.
"Judy," Nick spoke, "are you afraid of having kits?" Judy then sat up, even more concerned.
"Of course not. Why would you ask that?" She asked. Nick then teared up.
"Because I might be." He spoke. Judy then held him close.
"Talk to me, baby. What's wrong?" Judy asked. Nick gave a shaky sigh before shaking his head.
"My father was just like that teacher we arrested today. He did all of that behind my mother's back. I don't want to end up like him." Nick said. Judy felt Nick's pain and grew a resolve.
"Nick," she said, "look at me." Nick did just that, looking into her eyes. Judy looked into his and gave a serious look.
'Judy?' Nick thought.
"You are NOTHING like your father. He didn't care about you and your mother. I've seen how you are with Cotton and my other nieces, nephews, cousins, and younger siblings. You'll be a great father. I know it." Judy said. Nick sniffled before shedding a tear.
"I'm about to suggest something," Nick said, "and I don't know if I'm making the right call."
"What is it, Nick? Tell me." Judy spoke. Nick clenched his eyes before taking a breath.
"I…. I want us to adopt Cotton." Nick said. Judy was shocked at that.
"You want us to adopt my niece?" She asked.
"I know it sounds crazy," Nick said, "and a bit stupid, but…. I don't think she's safe in Bunnyburrow! I don't even think she FEELS safe! Carrots, I'm scared she'll end up getting hurt or worse! I…. I just!" Judy cut him off by kissing him, which he slowly returned. She broke the kiss, putting her head on his.
"I was thinking the same thing. I practically raised her growing up. That's why she's my favorite niece." Judy said.
"We'll have to talk to your parents about it." Nick said. Judy nodded.
"I'll do it in the morning since we have to meet them at the school." She said. Judy's phone then rang, causing her to look at it. She saw it was her mom and answered.
'Speak of the devil.' Judy thought.
"We were just talking about you and dad, mom." She said.
"A-Aunt Judy!" A voice said, panicked. Judy then went on alert.
"Cotton?" Judy asked.
"It's on fire! It's all on fire!" Cotton said. Nick had overheard and looked at Judy. Judy then put her phone on speaker.
"Cotton," Nick said, "it's Nick. What's going on? What's on fire?"
"Bunnyburrow!" Cotton said. Judy's heart sank and Nick's face showed panic.
"Get to a safe place! We're on our way to get you! Stay on the line!" Judy said, getting out of bed. Nick grabbed his phone and called Ron, who had answered within seconds.
"Ron," Nick said, getting dressed in his uniform, "get the others! All of Bunnyburrow's on fire!" Judy got dressed in her uniform and the two ran out. They got in their vehicle and Judy turned it on, turning the ELS and siren on before speeding off. A few seconds later, Ron was behind them, his ELS and siren going. After a few minutes, Kiara and Wanda joined them as they were approaching the way to Bunnyburrow.
"We're almost there, Cotton! Just hang on! Where are you?!" Judy asked.
"I'm at the town sign! Al's here with me!" Cotton said.
"Hang tight!" Nick said. Judy drove faster, the others following suit.
'Please be okay. Please be okay!' Judy thought. Nick then saw the flames before seeing Cotton and Al.
"There they are!" Nick said. Judy then stopped and hung up her phone, getting out and running to them. Nick and the others followed suit.
"Cotton!" Judy said. Cotton ran to her and jumped up, hugging Judy tight. Judy hugged her back as Nick came and hugged them both. Al joined in, grateful they showed up. Ron then felt something off, looking towards the fires. He saw his mother's spirit, as well as Grigori's, and they stood near a trailer of gas that was overheating.
"Get down." Ron said.
"Huh?" Nick asked.
"Down! GET DOWN!" Ron yelled. He got behind them, taking them to the ground as Kiara and Wanda helped. The moment they all got down, the trailer exploded, creating a nuclear effect that sent flames and shrapnel flying over them.
"Everyone okay?!" Kiara asked.
"We're good." Nick said. The fires raged on behind them, causing them all to look. They all stared in utter horror as Bunnyburrow had been completely engulfed and decimated. Judy screamed out, tears now flowing. Nick held her close and time slowed as Judy collapsed, still holding Cotton. Cotton looked away, tears flowing, and Al joined in. Wanda and Kiara then looked solemn, comforting the four. Even Ron was affected, shedding a tear as thunder had rumbled. It then started raining and the fires were slowly being put out. Time resumed as Ron looked at Cotton, who stared directly at him.
"How did this happen?" He asked. Cotton sniffled.
"A drunk driver hit a gas line." Cotton spoke.
"Did anyone else make it?" Ron asked. Cotton clenched her eyes and shook her head.
"They all sacrificed themselves to save me and Al!" She cried.
"Where will we go now? What will we do?!" Al asked. Ron then got serious.
"You two are coming back to Zootopia with us." He said.
"Judy and I will take Cotton." Nick said.
"I'll take Al." Ron said. A low groan then got their attention. Judy looked and her eyes widened. Ron then looked and saw Molly, slowly crawling to them.
"Molly!" Judy said. Nick then ran and picked Molly up. She looked at Nick and her eyes shone.
"It's okay, Molly. It's okay. You're gonna be fine." Nick said.
"Let's get her to the hospital!" Ron said.
[Hours later….]
Dr. Manchas walked out to see Ron and the others. Judy then went up to her and Nick followed.
"How is she?" Judy asked.
"She'll be okay. She suffered from smoke inhalation," Dr. Manchas spoke, "and got a sprained wrist from being thrown by the explosion."
"Was she burned?" Nick asked.
"No. She was covered in dirt. She landed in a dirt mound and slid down it." Dr. Manchas said.
"Can we see her?" Cotton asked.
"She's resting right now. We'd like to keep her for observation overnight." Dr. Manchas said.
"Thank you." Judy said.
"Hey! Get back here!" A voice said. Judy looked and saw Molly going to her, jumping into her arms. A nurse then followed, panting heavily.
"You alright?" Dr. Manchas asked.
"I need to be in better shape to be a pediatric nurse." The nurse said. Judy looked at Molly.
"Molly? They need you to stay overnight." Judy said.
"No!" Molly said.
"Would you stay if we did?" Cotton asked.
"No!" Molly said.
"Would you stay if I did?" Ron asked, making himself known to her. Molly then looked to the side.
"N-no." She said. Ron then went to her and took her from Judy. Molly blushed lightly before Ron carried her back.
"Are you sure, Ron? I don't mind doing it." Judy said.
"Molly is scared. She wants someone strong and scary, yet soft and gentle, to stay with her. I'm the only one of us she's close to that fits that." Ron said. Judy went to counter, but saw the logic and sighed.
"Fair point." She said. Molly gripped Ron's shirt, nuzzling his chest. Ron looked at her and smiled.
"You're one tough bunny, Molly. Just like your sister." He spoke.
"Wolf happy?" Molly asked.
"Happy that you're okay and safe." Ron said.
"Why wolf concerned?" Molly asked.
"Because you're still a little, baby bunny. I don't want to see you hurt." Ron said.
"Wolf a daddy?" Molly asked. Ron gave a light chuckle.
"No," he said, "I don't have any children. However, I have siblings. Two brothers and a sister. If something were to happen to them, I would be very worried." Molly then looked solemn.
"My family gone." Molly said.
"I know, Molly. That's why you're here. The doctors want to make sure you're truly okay." Ron said.
"I meet wolf family?" Molly asked. Ron gave a smile.
"I can try and arrange that." Ron spoke. Ron then got to a nursery and went to where Molly was. He set Molly down and pulled up a chair beside her. Molly laid down and Ron covered her up. Molly then yawned and looked at Ron.
"Nighty-night." She said, soon closing her eyes and falling asleep. Ron gave a soft smile before sitting next to her.
"Sleep tight, Molly." Ron whispered. Ron then sat there, watching the door for anyone who tried to enter.
[The next day….]
Molly woke up and yawned before looking around. She saw Ron and smiled. Ron looked at her, smiling brightly.
"Morning!" Molly said. Ron gave a light giggle as Dr. Manchas walked in.
"Oh," she said, "looks like Molly's awake." Judy walked in behind her, as did Nick, and they looked at Ron in shock.
"Did you stay up all night?!" Nick asked.
"You expect me to sleep while on watch?" Ron asked.
"Touché." Nick said. Judy giggled as Molly looked at Ron. She then walked over and picked Molly up.
"Judy mad?" Molly asked. This confused Judy.
"Why would I be mad?" Judy asked.
"I no let Judy stay with me. Wolf no sleep all night because I sleep. Wolf told how Judy tough and strong. Wolf have family, too. Wolf act same as Judy if wolf family in hospital." Molly said. Judy then realized it, giving a soft smile and shaking her head.
"I'm not mad, Molly. You heard what Ron said to me last night, right? After I said I didn't mind staying?" Judy asked.
"Wolf said I scared. I want someone strong and scary, yet soft and gentle. Wolf only one I close to that fit." Molly said.
"That's right. You see," Judy said, "Ron is a special type of wolf. You know how we're both in ZPD, right?"
"Mm-hmm." Molly spoke, nodding.
"Well," Judy said, "Ron and I went through the academy together. He was always looking out for me like a brother. I had lost contact with him after the academy. The reason Ron is so strong and scary, yet soft and gentle, is because of how he was raised. Plus, he's at a higher rank than me."
"What rank wolf?" Molly asked. Judy smiled and looked at Ron.
"He's a Sergeant." Judy said.
"What rank Judy?" Molly asked.
"Well," Judy said, "I'm a Detective now, but when you first met him, I was still just an Officer."
"Wolf is Judy's boss?" Molly asked.
"That's right. He's my boss, but only in rank. He treats everyone the same, even if he's close to them." Judy said.
"Wolf really strong then." Molly said.
"He is." Judy said.
"Judy feel safe around wolf?" Molly asked.
"I do. He's like a big brother!" Judy said. Ron smiled and nodded.
"I should get going. Need to get out of this and relax." Ron said, standing up.
"Anything new planned?" Nick asked.
"Nope. All the schools let out early because of renovations." Ron said.
"What about us?" Judy asked.
"You two get that little one home. She's gonna be part of your family." Ron said. Nick smiled and gave a nod.
"You got it, boss." He spoke. Ron then left and Judy smiled.
"Come on, Molly. Let's go home." Judy said.
[Later….]
Molly, Cotton, and Al were mesmerized by the look of SIU Headquarters.
"This is where you work?" Al asked.
"Yup! Sweet digs, huh?" Nick asked.
"You must have a lot of work to keep this place looking clean." Cotton said.
"Not really. The first two days," Ron said, "namely the first, we had everything cleaned in eight hours. Afterwards, someone came in and cleaned at night. We just try and clean where we can."
"Especially after lunch in the conference room." Judy said.
"It's not THAT bad!" Kiara said.
"Did you forget you had to shampoo and steam clean the seat you were in?" Wanda asked, grinning.
"Shut up!" Kiara said. Molly giggled.
"Anyways," Ron said, "antics aside, we get paid just for being here sometimes. All the paperwork is usually done, and we never have to take on too much as we're the only five in the SIU."
"Make that six." A voice said. Ron looked and saw Skye.
"Agent Forrester. What brings you here?" Ron asked.
"My bigot partner talked himself into early retirement," she said, "and ZI6 didn't want me in the field alone. So, they talked to ZPD. Seems like I'm more suited for this job than ZI6. So, I got transferred. They almost put me as a meter maid. However, Bogo knew better and put me with SIU. I have to agree with Wilde, these really ARE some nice digs. Better than the ZI6 put me in."
"What rank were you transferred as?" Judy asked, worried for Ron.
"You just relax, Hopps. I'm not taking over. They made me a Detective, just like you." Skye said, showing her badge and ID.
"Transfer letter?" Ron asked. Skye grinned.
"On your desk, boss." She said.
"We're now a team of six, huh?" Nick asked.
"You don't have to worry about me trying to poach you, Wilde. I don't swing that way." Skye said, eyeing Kiara. Kiara tensed and blushed, but Skye busted out laughing.
'Huh?' Nick thought.
"You should see the look on your face!" Skye said.
"Yup," Ron said, "she'll fit right in." Skye then composed herself, sighing.
"Seriously though, Wilde. I won't poach you. I'm seeing someone." Skye said.
"Why him specifically?" Wanda asked.
"Because the one he's seeing works with him," Skye said, "and I don't want her feeling jealous. Right, Hopps?"
"Huh?!" Judy asked.
"You knew?!" Nick asked.
"You make it so obvious!" Skye said. Ron gave a smile before nodding.
"Welcome to SIU, Detective Forrester." Ron said, holding a paw out. Skye then approached and shook his paw.
"A pleasure." Skye said.
"How about we get outta here and go enjoy some fun in the city?" Nick asked.
"Like where?" Wanda asked.
"Why not Clay and Busters?" Nick asked.
"Better take one car then." Ron said.
"What?!" Wanda asked. Ron gave a knowing smirk.
"Someone's gotta drive." He said. They all then left, Skye walking next to Ron.
"You gotta learn to liven up." Skye said.
"I'm straight edge, remember?" Ron asked.
"Almost forgot that." Skye said.
"Then again," Ron said, pulling the card out, "the only thing this is good for is protecting me from getting hassled by others about going to AA. Nowadays, I keep having to show it about five times during the day, and 500 times during the night. It's useless." Ron then threw the card back, the card going into a shredder and the pieces going into a trash can.
"No more one vehicle?" Molly asked.
"Just keep the drinks to one." Ron said. Everyone cheered in agreement as they walked out. Skye smiled before discreetly holding Ron's paw. Ron looked at her in shock and confusion.
"My ex followed me here. I don't feel safe." Skye whispered. Ron looked around and saw someone looking pissed. He gave a glare and the mammal grew fearful. The message was clear: try and hurt her, you'll regret it. Skye smiled and gave a light blush.
'So protective!' She thought. The mammal grew a resolve and ran to them, only to be met with a Sig Sauer P226 in their face. They looked and saw Ron, an unhappy glare on his face.
"Give me one good reason I shouldn't put a bullet in your skull." Ron said.
"I'm unarmed." The mammal said.
"Knife at your back waist says otherwise, try again." Ron said.
"Okay, okay! I'm sorry! I just…. I want her to give me a another chance!" The mammal said.
"How many chances has she given you?" Ron asked. The mammal went quiet before wincing.
"Fifty-three." The mammal squeaked.
"Then you've been given enough. I suggest you leave her alone before you get charged with harassment." Ron said.
"What do you know?! You're just her new boyfriend!" The mammal said.
"Who said I was?" Ron asked. The mammal looked fearful before Skye gave a glare.
"He's my Sergeant." Skye said.
"Your Sergeant?! You told me you were in ZI6!" The mammal said.
"That was BEFORE you and my bigot partner got into a fight in front of my bosses! Because my partner was a bigot, he got canned! I wasn't involved, so they transferred me to the ZPD SIU at the rank of Detective! This is why I can't tell you anything! You always assume the worst and suspect me of cheating! You're too possessive!" Skye said.
"I just want another chance! Please?!" The mammal begged.
"The answer is no! Just accept it!" Skye said.
"But, Skye!" The mammal spoke.
"No!" Skye said. The mammal went to grab her, but Ron pulled the hammer back on the pistol. That's when the mammal stopped and tensed.
"Final warning. Leave her alone." Ron said.
"I'm trying to change. Please, Skye! I'm begging you! Take me back!" The mammal spoke. Skye shook her head before going firm.
"It's over." Skye said. The mammal dropped to their knees and started crying.
"If you ever target a member of my team again... I won't be so nice." Ron said. He then holstered the pistol, Nick looking confused.
"Don't we normally carry tranquilizer guns?" He asked.
"I switch them from day to day." Ron said. That's when Nick caught on.
"Tranquilizer rounds." He said.
"Yup." Ron said. As Nick was about to speak, Ron got a call. He answered it, not saying a word. He soon smiled before hanging up.
"What is it?" Judy asked.
"CPS just approved it." Ron said. Cotton and Al were shocked.
"We get to live in Zootopia?!" Cotton asked.
"Judy and Nick will be taking care of you and Molly," Ron said, "and I'll be taking care of Al."
"More to celebrate!" Nick said. Everyone agreed as they walked to the vehicles, looking forward to their new lives. Skye especially looked forward to it as she would experience her first SIU case.
