In the City of Zootopia's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the dedicated investigators of the Special Investigations Unit. These are their stories.
It was a bright morning in Zootopia as a mammal drove to the Zootopia Naturalist Club. They were sweating a bit, but paid it no mind. They soon drove into the parking area, near the column, and held up a detonator. They gave a prayer in Arabic before detonating a bomb in the vehicle, the mammal still inside, and caused the place to collapse on itself.
[Meanwhile….]
Nick was cooking breakfast as Judy was making sure Cotton and Molly were ready for the day.
"Alright," Judy said, "after you eat breakfast, we'll head out."
"Okay, Aunt Judy!" Cotton said.
"I can't wait to show you all the best spots in town." Nick said. Judy's phone then rang and she looked at it, seeing it was Ron calling.
"Go for Hopps." She answered. Cotton then smiled as Nick looked at Judy in concern.
"Everything alright, Carrots?" Nick asked.
"Hang on. I'll put you on speaker." Judy said. She then put her phone on speaker, and Nick heard clamoring voices in the background.
"You listening, Nick?" Ron asked. Molly's ears went up and Nick got worried.
"We're not being called in, are we?" Nick asked.
"Just the opposite. ZFP is asking for us to stay out. Someone had bombed Mystic Springs." Ron said. This caused Nick to go on alert.
"The Naturalist Club?" He asked.
"The very same." Ron said. A door soon closed and the voices were drowned out.
"Why are you calling then?" Judy asked.
"Because Bogo wants us on alert to assist ZFP. We're not to disrupt them," Ron said, "but we can try and help if they need it. Wanda and Kiara were already told, so was Skye. Until we get told otherwise, SIU is not to be called unless they need us for an ACTUAL reason other than running coffee. Orders from Bogo and DiCaprio."
"Thanks for informing us." Nick said.
"Wolf come over for breakfast?" Molly asked. Ron gave a soft chuckle over the phone.
"I'm on my way." Ron spoke. He then hung up and Judy sighed.
"Guess we have to change our plans now." She spoke.
"Why's that?" Nick asked.
"Because now all the best spots are inaccessible because of the traffic." Judy said. Nick then went into thought. Cotton then got an idea.
"Maybe we don't have to change our plans." She said.
"What do you mean?" Nick asked.
"Instead of driving," Cotton said, "we could walk!"
"And risk losing you and Molly in the crowd?" Judy asked. Cotton went to speak, but stopped and went sullen.
"Don't be so down, little fluff. It was a good suggestion." Nick said. A knock on the door got their attention and Judy went to it. She approached the door, but soon felt danger. She then backed away before going to Nick.
"Danger at the door." She whispered. Nick went on alert before cutting everything off and putting the dishes in the sink. He then grabbed Molly and hurried to his and Judy's room. Judy grabbed Cotton and followed. The two got to their room and opened the closet. They set Cotton and Molly inside before Nick grabbed his pistol from a safe that was inside. Judy grabbed hers and Nick looked at Cotton and Molly.
"I want you two to listen close, okay? No matter what you hear, stay quiet. Make no sounds." He whispered. The two young bunnies nodded and Nick closed the closet door. No sooner did that happen, the front door was kicked in. Judy looked out the window of their room silently. She looked up high, searching for snipers. She didn't see any, but soon felt trouble at their bedroom door. Nick felt it, too, and silently aimed. Judy put Nick's badge around his neck before doing the same with hers, aiming soon after. The door was kicked in, and six mammals aimed at them.
"ZPD, DON'T MOVE!!!!" Judy yelled.
"Lower your weapons." One of them said. However, several clicks got the attention of the six mammals.
"Why don't you six lower yours?" A voice asked. One of them looked and saw Ron with Wanda, Kiara, Skye, and some ZFP Agents. The mammals soon lowered their weapons and the agents took them into custody. Ron walked in, going to Nick and Judy.
"You two alright?" He asked.
"Yeah," Judy said, "just shaken. Cotton and Molly are in the closet." Nick went to the closet and saw Cotton soothing Molly.
"They're more shaken than us." Nick said.
"Guess we have to go to the store." Judy said.
"Why?" Ron asked.
"Because they kicked in our front door and our bedroom door." Judy said.
"Boss," Skye said, walking into the room, "take a look at this. It was on one of the mammals." Ron looked and saw a shock collar.
"What the hell?" Ron asked.
"I dealt with these guys in ZI6. They're a terrorist group called the 'ZLF.' They put these collars on predators and force them to do all kinds of things." Skye said.
"Good God." Nick said.
"They targeted Nick, didn't they?" Judy asked.
"They did. ZFP will handle this." Skye said.
"How come I was targeted?" Nick asked.
"Because they had the floor plans to the SIU Headquarters." Skye said.
"What?!" Nick asked.
"That explains it. The ZLF are all prey. They want a Zootopia where the predators aren't able to go anywhere without wearing a shock collar!" Ron said.
"Are they suspected?" Judy asked.
"I know what you're eluding to," a voice said, "and they are." The four looked and saw Director DiCaprio.
"Please get these guys. I don't take too well to my team being threatened." Ron said.
"We'll get them. This became personal." DiCaprio said. She then walked away and Wanda and Kiara walked in.
"What's the plan?" Kiara asked.
"We leave this to ZFP. However," Ron said, "you're to keep your pistols and badges with you at all times. Understood?"
"Yes, sir." Wanda said. The others nodded in agreement.
"Good. We stay in pairs. Nick and Judy," Ron said, "it's obvious you two will be paired up. Same with Kiara and Wanda. Skye, you'll be paired with me."
"Understood." Skye said.
"Keep your heads on a swivel." Ron said.
[Hours later….]
Nick and Judy were smiling as they watched Cotton and Molly play on a playground in Downtown Zootopia with other young mammals. The other mammals were talking before one of them nudged Judy.
"Which are yours?" They asked.
"The two bunnies," Judy said, "though they aren't mine originally. The older one is my niece, and the younger one is my little sister."
"I see. Where are they from?" The mammal asked. Judy went solemn.
"Bunnyburrow." She spoke. The mammal gave a soft gasp.
"Oh, dear. I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bring up such a bad memory for you!" They said.
"It's okay. I'm still in shock over it." Judy said.
"Do you ever plan on having kits of your own?" The mammal asked.
"Someday." Judy said.
"Who's gonna be the father?" The mammal asked.
"Promise you won't freak out?" Judy asked. The mammal caught on and smiled.
"I'm with a different species, too. We have three wonderful children. One of which we adopted." They said. Judy looked and gasped.
"L-L-Lieutenant!" She said. The mammal giggled before waving a paw.
"I'm not in uniform right now. Call me Fuli." They said. Nick smiled before looking over.
"I thought I smelled someone Ron was close to." He said.
"I could say the same." Fuli said. Nick then looked and saw Cotton and Molly with a cheetah cub and a lion cub.
"Those two look a bit old for a playground." Nick said. Fuli giggled.
"Their father is such a worrywart." She said. Nick then looked over and saw six mammals in suits approaching. One of them held a child-sized shock collar, and Nick went on alert.
"Get the kits to safety." Nick said. He then stood up and approached Cotton and Molly before kneeling down.
"Mr. Nick? Is everything okay?" Cotton asked. Nick saw one of the mammals pull out a gun and he drew his pistol, aiming at them.
"ZOOTOPIA POLICE! DROP THE WEAPON! DO IT NOW!!!!" Nick ordered. The children screamed and their parents ran over, grabbing them and getting them to safety.
"Lower your weapon." One of the suited mammals spoke, pulling out another shock collar for Nick.
"Try it and I'll put one between your eyes." Nick said, taking his pistol off safety. The mammal with the gun aimed at Nick, but Judy and Fuli had drawn their pistols and aimed at the mammals.
"Listen to him! Drop it!" Fuli said. Another shock collar was revealed as well as another child-sized one.
"Final warning, predator. Lower your weapon. You have a mission to complete." One said. Nick gave a glare.
"I refuse to work for the ZLF and commit treason. You're all terrorists." Nick said. The armed mammal then grinned and went to fire, but Nick fired first, hitting the mammal in the head and killing them.
"Grab the operatives!" One said. However, Nick fired another shot and shot another mammal going for a pistol. Judy and Fuli shot the remaining four as they went for their pistols.
"SUSPECTS DOWN!" Judy yelled. Two ZFP Agents then ran up, weapons drawn. They recognized Nick and Judy, sighing as they holstered their weapons.
"Damn!" One said.
"You've gotta get these guys." Nick said.
"We will." The other said.
"Grab your kits, Lieutenant. We need to get to a secure place." Judy said.
"Where?" Fuli asked. Judy looked at her, holstering her pistol.
"The one place where we can be safe." She said.
[At SIU Headquarters….]
Fuli and her children were mesmerized at the equipment the SIU had.
"Hard to believe this is where my son works." Fuli said.
"Considering you and dad haven't shown your faces here," Ron said, making himself known, "I can believe it." The cheetah and lion gasped and looked at Ron, smiling.
"Ron!" They said. They ran to him and Ron knelt down, hugging them.
"Glad to know you two are okay." Ron said.
"Where's Al?" Judy asked.
"Wanda and Kiara are getting him. I heard about what happened in the park." Ron said.
"We'll talk to the department shrink after these guys are caught." Nick said.
"Could you show us around, Ron?" The lion asked.
"Yeah! I want to see every inch of this place!" The cheetah said. Wanda and Kiara then walked in with Al, but Al looked scared. Ron looked at him, concerned.
"Al? Is everything okay?" Ron asked. Nick then looked and backed Judy and Fuli away.
"Huh?" Fuli asked.
"Nick?" Judy asked.
"Collar." Nick said. Ron overheard and Skye came out. Al then clenched his eyes, tears dropping and he revealed a bomb vest on him. Cotton and Molly screamed as Wanda and Kiara got away. Ron then got pissed and Al looked at him, tears in his eyes. Al then threw a bag down and opened it to reveal shock collars. Ron's phone rang and Skye nodded, already knowing what was happening. Ron pulled out his phone and looked serious.
"Nolan." He spoke.
"Hello, Sgt. Nolan. I believe you know why I'm calling." A voice said.
"You listen to me, you bastard. You're stooping to a whole new low by using a child to do your deeds." Ron said.
"Come now. You know this is inevitable. I simply need you and your team to complete a task." The voice said.
"We don't negotiate with terrorists." Ron said.
"Who says we are?" The voice asked.
"ZFP, ZI6, even the ZPD Police Commissioner." Ron said. Skye gave a nod and a thumbs up, signaling that she got it. Ron nodded.
"We don't have time for this. Your task is simple. Put those shock collars on," the voice said, "and listen to my next instructions."
"You made a big mistake calling me on my ZPD issued phone." Ron said.
"What do you mean?" The voice asked.
"Your location has been sent to ZFP HRT." Ron said.
"You traced the call?!" The voice asked.
"If you ever try and use my family again," Ron said, "you'll be sorry. Then again, I get the feeling you know that you're cornered. After all, you messed with the wrong group of mammals."
"You're bluffing." The voice said. A click in the background caused the voice to gasp.
"Is he bluffing, Doug?" Another voice asked. Ron gave a grin.
"Disable all the shock collars and the bomb vest, Romano." Ron said.
"You got it, Sgt. Nolan." Romano said. Buttons were pressed and the shock collar around Al's neck beeped, getting turned off. Kiara then approached and saw the bomb vest was inactive before taking it off of him. Al ran to Ron and hugged him tight.
"That… is checkmate." Ron said. He hung up and Cotton squealed.
"We just got to see them work first-paw!" She said. Fuli smiled and looked at Judy.
"You and Nick will be great parents. I'm sure of it." She said.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." Judy said. Ron's phone rang again, and Skye was ready just in case. Ron answered the call and got serious.
"Nolan." Ron said.
"Sgt. Nolan, it's Director DiCaprio. We know why they had the floor plans to SIU Headquarters." DiCaprio spoke.
"You heard from your team already, right?" Ron asked.
"Yeah," DiCaprio spoke, "but that's just the positive. The reason why they had those floor plans is because that was a hideout Doug had set up for Bellwether."
"What about Mystic Springs?" Ron asked.
"They knew too much about Doug's plans to break Bellwether out." DiCaprio said.
"Wait," Ron said, "didn't Doug get locked up, too?"
"He was," DiCaprio said, "but he escaped."
"Guess he's going back." Ron said.
"You better believe it." DiCaprio said. Ron then hung up and dried Al's tears. Just then, an alert came in on the phones of those in the SIU. Ron's eyes went wide and he looked at Nick and Judy. They looked at him in the same way.
"This is bad." Nick said.
"Ah, shit. Here we go again." Ron said.
"What? What's going on?" Fuli asked. A news story then started playing.
"Breaking news as the Zootopia Department of Corrections have announced that Former Mayor Dawn Bellwether has escaped! ZDC Commissioner Blackhoof states that she escaped on her own," the news caster spoke, "but left a trail of dead guards, and one former ZI6 Operative in her wake. The ZFP have announced that Former ZI6 Operative Jack Savage was mercilessly gunned down in an attempt to stop Bellwether. The weapon used was from the Zootopia Penitentiary's Armory. Specifically, it was an AR-15 with Armor Piercing rounds. Each of the guards found dead were killed with two shots, but Former ZI6 Savage was found to have had an ENTIRE magazine shot into his body. Former Mayor Bellwether is considered to be armed and dangerous. If you have any information as to her whereabouts, please contact Crime Stoppers at the number on your screen, or contact your local authorities."
"By God." Kiara said.
"Nick!" Ron said.
"Call SWAT! Arrange for protective custody for past victims! On it!" Nick said, dialing a number.
"Judy!" Ron said.
"Contact ZFP! Get us in on the search! On it!" Judy said, calling another number.
"Wanda! Kiara!" Ron said.
"Background on Bellwether! Family, associates, breeding buddies!" Wanda said, typing into a computer that sat at her desk.
"Possible places she could use as a hideout!" Kiara said, doing the same.
"I'll call Zootopia Penitentiary! Get their security footage!" Skye said.
"What about us?" Cotton asked.
"Stay with my mother for now, okay?" Ron asked. Cotton nodded and Al went to her.
"Want me to get them home?" Fuli asked.
"It's not safe for them to leave here. Go in the conference room for now. Keep the blinds down." Ron said.
"Why?" Fuli asked.
"Nick and Judy had stopped Bellwether," Ron said, "and I was the first victim of the Night Howler case. She'll likely try and target us." Fuli understood and Molly looked scared.
"Wolf stay safe!" Molly said. Ron looked at her and sighed.
"I'll try," he said, "but I make no promises." Fuli then took the children into the conference room, keeping the blinds down, and closed the door as everyone finished what they set out to do.
"SWAT's en route to the past victims," Nick said, "excluding you, of course. They're more than happy to help."
"Director DiCaprio got us in the moment she heard Bellwether escaped," Judy said, "but they appreciated us calling for permission."
"ZDC sent their footage to the crime lab. We'll know as soon as they find something." Skye said.
"Wanda! Kiara!" Ron said. Wanda typed on a keyboard before a profile of Bellwether appeared on a plasma screen in the bullpen.
"Dawn Bellwether," Wanda said, "Former Mayor of Zootopia. Before that, under Mayor Lionhardt, she was the Assistant Mayor. She was responsible for 14 known predators being affected by Midnicampum Holichithias. Better known by their street name,…" Wanda grabbed a clicker and pressed a button, causing a picture of a familiar flower to appear.
"Night Howlers." Ron finished.
"This caused them to revert to their natural instincts and go savage. All known associates are locked up. No living family. No reason to suggest she became involved due to coercion." Wanda said.
"The dart gun she used?" Ron asked.
"Destroyed two weeks after her imprisonment." Wanda said.
"Explains why she took a rifle and ammo from the ZDC." Nick said.
"Doesn't explain why she waited so long." Judy said.
"Considering they were still looking for Doug," Skye said, "she wanted to wait for the heat to die down." Kiara then typed some keys before a news article appeared on the plasma screen.
"This might be the reason." Kiara spoke.
"This is just a news article about affordable housing! What's so significant?!" Nick asked, confused. Kiara then grabbed the clicker from Wanda and pressed a button, highlighting a specific paragraph.
"Zootopia had purchased the area where Bunnyburrow once was. They haven't named it yet," Kiara said, "but they plan on building a rehab facility for those affected by heavy narcotics."
"Okay? Why would Bellwether care?" Judy asked.
"Because they also plan on building a Maximum Security Corrections Facility in that same area for mammals deemed too dangerous." Kiara said.
"Fits Bellwether." Ron said.
"Plus," Kiara said, hitting a button and showing another news article, "this just came in." Judy was shocked and looked at Ron.
"She's set to be on Death Row." Judy said.
"She didn't escape for revenge." Nick said.
"She's trying to escape death for her crimes." Kiara said.
"Where's a good place to hide and escape death?" Nick asked. Judy then caught on and looked at Ron, who got serious.
"Get ZFP and SWAT there now. Gear up!" Ron said.
[Moments later….]
Bellwether panted and looked as she had finally changed her appearance. She then grabbed the AR-15, loading it with the armor piercing rounds that she coated in the Night Howler serum.
'Time for them to fear my wrath. I refuse to die and become food for predators.' Bellwether thought. As she went to leave, several sirens were heard and she peeked out, seeing ZFP and ZPD. Her heart sank as she soon felt fear at seeing the amount of them.
"Dawn Bellwether! This is the police! We have you surrounded! Throw out your weapon and come out with your hooves up!" A voice ordered. Bellwether looked at a monitor and saw that the ENTIRE facility was surrounded. As this happened, Ron showed up with the others.
"Anything yet?" Ron asked.
"Nada." One said. Ron then took the megaphone, turning it on and holding it up to his muzzle.
"Dawn Bellwether," Ron said, catching her attention, "this is Sgt. Ron Nolan of the Zootopia Police Special Investigations Unit. We're about to try and contact you. I ask that you give us some courtesy and answer. We just want to help." Someone from SWAT then pressed a button on a setup and dialed the phones inside. Bellwether heard them ring and hesitated, but answered.
"You want to help me? Prove it. Call everything off!" Bellwether said.
"We can't do that. The lives of several mammals are at stake." Ron said.
"What about MY life?! All I did was make some predators go savage," Bellwether said, "and they're sentencing me to death! How is THAT fair and just?!"
"What about the lives you took when you escaped? Would THAT be cause for the death penalty?" Ron asked.
"I'm just trying to survive. You have no idea what it's like having to live in the shadow of someone else!" Bellwether said.
"Do the names Fuli and Kion mean anything to you?" Ron asked. Bellwether gasped.
"Your adoptive parents!" Bellwether said.
"I grew up in their shadow. I made a name for myself once I saw my chance. You haven't done that. No one has acknowledged you," Ron said, "and no one will because everyone you know is either locked up or dead."
"All I wanted was to be heard! I just wanted an opinion!" Bellwether said.
"You were the Assistant Mayor. All you had to do was ask for an opportunity to prove yourself capable." Ron said.
"When did YOU get that opportunity?! Huh?! When did your parents let you prove yourself?! What did you do?! Solve the rape and murder of your childhood crush?!" Bellwether asked. Ron then went serious. Bellwether was about to hang up, however….
"Her name was Luna Fanghauser." Ron spoke, causing her to stop.
"W-what?" Bellwether asked.
"My childhood friend. Her name was Luna Fanghauser. She and I were best friends. We hung out a lot. Eventually," Ron spoke, "I developed a crush on her. I was going to tell her, and ask her to a school dance. However, when I went to meet with her at our spot, she didn't show up. I knew her last class, and went to see if she was still there, only to find her dead and lying on the teacher's desk. Her clothes were torn, and I knew what had happened. I called my parents immediately, and they blocked the school off. No one in or out. They had their eyes on the teacher, but I told them otherwise. Suggested I investigate with their supervision. They were reluctant at first, but I managed to sway them. I took one look and visualized it in my head. That's when I noticed something on her body. Namely, she had semen dripping from inside her. I also saw fur and skin from the assailant under her claws. The biggest giveaway was the one thing my parents didn't notice. As a wolf, I have a keener sense of smell than most. The scent I picked up wasn't the teacher, it was the sports captain. I questioned him, my parents watching, and managed to get him to confess. I made a name for myself that day as my school's student investigator, and that helped me get into ZPD." Bellwether was at a loss for words.
"I…. I had no idea. Her father was the Assistant Mayor before me." She spoke.
"He and her mother had divorced while she attended school. I comforted her through it. She… even gave me her first kiss." Ron said.
"When was that?" Bellwether asked. Ron gave a soft sniffle.
"Two weeks before she was murdered. Her mother gave me a letter she wrote for me. I still remember it to this day." Ron said.
"How so?" Bellwether asked. Ron shed a single tear.
"Because her and I would be mates right now if she were alive." Ron said.
"You mean?!" Bellwether asked.
"Yeah. She was going to tell me she loved me." Ron said. Bellwether soon sobbed before hanging up. Ron knew what was about to happen.
"Get ready to breach. Now!" Ron said. However, before they could, a gunshot rang inside. Ron ran towards the door, going past everyone and going inside. He soon looked in the security office and his heart sank. Time slowed as Ron approached the corpse of Dawn Bellwether. The others went in and Ron checked her pulse to be sure. He then looked at them and shook his head. On the table was a note in her writing. Only two words were written: 'Forgive me.' Ron then exited the room as ZFP went in. Time resumed as Ron started walking out of the facility. The others followed.
"Ron! Wait up!" Nick said. Ron got to his vehicle, about to open the door, but was stopped by Wanda.
"What happened wasn't your fault. Her guilt got the best of her. She knew the consequences." She said. Skye then approached him, as did the others.
"Was it all true?" Judy asked.
"Yeah. It was." Ron said.
"Ron, we can-." Nick spoke.
"Take tomorrow off. All of you. I have somewhere I need to be." Ron said. He then got in his vehicle and backed out before turning and leaving.
[Hours later….]
It was late as Ron walked through a cemetery. He soon stopped at a grave and cleared leaves off the headstone. He gave a soft smile and knelt down.
"Hey, Luna. I know it's been awhile," Ron spoke, "and I haven't been visiting as often as I should. I can understand if you're mad at me. I… don't really have an excuse. I, uh, I had to tell your story to someone. It was someone bad. Worse than… well, we both know the answer to that. I…. I told them just about everything. I even brought up your letter to me. I haven't found anyone like you, Luna. I'm just… at a loss. I'm just about ready to give up on love. After all, the one I wanted to spend my life with… was you. You were taken from me before I had the chance. I miss you so much, Luna. I really do. I'll try and visit again soon. …. I love you, Luna. I always will. …. Happy birthday." Ron then kissed his paw and put it on the headstone, which read as follows: 'Here lies Luna Fanghauser. Daughter, classmate, and friend. Rest in eternal peace.' Ron sniffled before he felt a paw on his shoulder. He looked and saw Skye. He soon saw Nick, Judy, Wanda, Kiara, Cotton, Molly, Al, Romano, DiCaprio, his parents, and others that he worked with.
"We're here for you, Ron." Skye said. Cotton and Al then approached, kneeling in front of the headstone.
"Hi, Luna. My name is Cotton. The wolf next to me is my friend, Al. Ron saved our lives." Cotton spoke.
"My father was related to the one who took your life. Though, I'm sure you knew that already. I was forced to do those things to Cotton by him." Al said.
"Ron and Al are brothers. They share the same parents. I'm sure Ron told you." Cotton spoke.
"I would have loved to have met you, Luna. I'm sure Ron's coworkers would, too." Al said. A soft wind blew and Skye knelt down beside Ron. Nick, Judy, Wanda, and Kiara did the same.
"My Aunt Judy works with him. She's strong, you know. Always looking out for her family." Cotton said.
' No more.' A voice spoke. Ron gasped, looking around.
"Who just said that?" Skye asked.
' I am not alive,' the voice spoke, ' but I am not dead. I can't be touched, but I can touch others. I can be forgotten, but I can never forget. I haunt my enemies, but protect and guard my friends and family. What am I?' Ron shed a tear, clenching his eyes.
"The spirit of a loved one." Ron spoke. A soft glow from a full moon shone and everyone saw Luna's spirit. Al gasped, but not in fear.
' I saw everything, Ron. I will always be with you. I wait for the day I get to be with you in spirit,' Luna spoke, ' as I never got to be with you in body. Do not give up on love, but keep your options open. Times have changed, after all. You helped make this world a better place.' Ron couldn't say anything, his emotions wild.
"You heard everything we said, too. Right?" Cotton asked.
' I did. My story is what helped Ron join ZPD. That is another reason he knew of your troubles, Cotton.' Luna spoke. Molly then reached out to Ron, looking for him to hold her. Judy then set Molly on Ron's leg, causing her to hug his arm.
"Molly, right? What are you doing?" Skye asked.
"Wolf sad. I try and make sadness go away." Molly spoke. That got Luna's attention.
' Why is he sad?' Luna asked. Molly looked at her.
"Wolf misses you. Wishes you were here. Wishes you were his mate." Molly said. Luna's spirit then approached Ron before hugging him.
' I miss him, too. I can only protect him in spirit.' Luna spoke. Skye then went solemn, but pulled out a bracelet she had in her pocket. Luna looked at her, confused, but Skye placed the bracelet around Ron's right wrist. Ron looked at her. Skye then closed her eyes, putting a paw on the bracelet.
"Hear me, O Lord, for I have a request." Skye spoke.
' What?' Luna asked.
"I have not called upon thee for such things before," Skye said, "as I fear I may be seen as treacherous. This mammal with me is in great pain and suffering. He has nightmares of his friend's death. Said friend is one he cared for dearly. He loves her. My request, though probably impossible, is that his friend is given another chance at life. However, not through her own, but through his first daughter. Please grant my request, O Lord, for Luna Fanghauser 's spirit to become the life of his child should he choose to have one!" A golden glow came from the bracelet, causing Luna to look at Skye in shock.
' You are a Spiritual Healer.' Luna spoke.
"Only by inheritance. My mother taught me on a whim. It's rare for a fox to be one." Skye said. Luna gave a smile, shaking her head.
' It matters not! I wondered what his children would be like! Had I not been killed,' she spoke, ' I would have birthed and raised them. Now, I might have a chance to BE one of them! Only a Spiritual Healer has that power!' A strong presence then appeared and Skye gasped.
"No way!" Romano spoke.
"Are we seeing this?!" Another asked. Ron looked and his eyes went wide. Standing before him was the Patron Saint of Law Enforcement, St. Michael.
' Skye Forrester,' he spoke, ' our Lord has heard your request. You had completed your training in your youth, but He had other plans for you. Yet, though you are not an official one, you have taken the role of a Spiritual Healer for the sake of your Sergeant. You claim it would be viewed as treacherous if you were to ask a request, but the Lord is joyous over the fact you have. He, too, has heard the talks of your Sergeant to Luna. He was patiently awaiting the day that a Spiritual Healer would give this request. However, he never expected that it would be one not destined for it.'
' I suppose this means her request is denied.' Luna spoke, dejected.
' On the contrary. The Lord grants the request,' St. Michael spoke, ' but has added on to it.'
"Added on?!" Skye asked, shocked.
' Luna Fanghauser,' St. Michael spoke, ' you shall be given the life of Ron's first daughter! In addition, your firstborn will be the reincarnation of Ron's mother!' Skye was shocked, and Ron shed a tear. However, Luna wiped it away, causing him to look at her.
'Luna?' He thought. Luna smiled brightly. Before St. Michael left and Luna started glowing as bright as the moon.
' Our Lord has spoken! I hope to see you soon, Ron. Actually,' Luna spoke, ' that isn't right. Since the request was granted, I'll be your first daughter! So, let me try that again.'
"Huh?" Ron asked.
' This may sound wrong and sexual,' Luna spoke, ' but we know it won't be. I can't wait to meet you, daddy!' Ron was speechless as Luna's spirit disappeared before the bracelet turned into a memorial one for Luna. Nick then gave a grin before looking at Ron.
"So," Nick said, "what's that you said earlier about giving up on love?"
"Nick," Skye said, looking at him disappointed, "if you don't shut up, I'm going to make sure you DON'T have children. I don't mean by divine intervention either." Nick then tensed up and protected his crotch. Ron then gave a soft smile, causing Molly to look at him.
"Wolf happy?" She asked. Ron picked Molly up, standing.
"Yeah, I am." Ron said.
[The next day….]
Ron was waiting in a coffee shop, looking at the menu to see what he should order. As he approached the counter, one of the employees had accidentally bumped into him, spilling a coffee order they were carrying on his shirt.
"YEOWCH!" Ron yelled. The employee gasped in shock.
"Oh, my God! I am SO sorry! I wasn't paying attention!" They said. Ron quickly got his shirt off, causing all the guys to get jealous as the ladies jaws dropped.
"It's fine. This is an old shirt anyways. Ah, fuck! I can still feel the burning. Do you guys have some burn ointment back there?!" Ron asked.
"I'll go and get it!" Another employee spoke.
"Way to go, klutzy." A third spoke. The employee went dejected, starting to take her apron off.
"First day?" Ron asked. The employee looked at him in shock.
"How'd you know?" They asked.
"Because that apron your wearing is covered in stains. Only reason they give someone a stained apron is if they just started working here." Ron said. The employee was stunned.
"You frequent here?" They asked.
"Not by choice. I've had to do plenty of coffee runs." Ron said. The second employee then came back with the burn ointment and motioned to a table.
"Sit here. I'll apply the ointment. I can see where you were burned by the coffee." They spoke. Ron listened and sighed as he felt the soothing relief from the ointment. A fourth employee then cleaned the spill and the first one remade the order that had been spilled.
"Why do they always stick the rookies when I work?" The third asked. The second employee then rolled their eyes. They then finished and put gauze over it. Ron looked at them.
"What shift?" He asked.
"I'm sorry?" The second employee asked.
"You have a second job with ZFD as a paramedic, right? What shift?" Ron asked. The second employee was shocked.
"Graveyard in Tundratown. How'd you know?" They asked.
"The way you wrap the gauze after treating a burn. ZFD uses the same method," Ron said, "so do nurses and doctors. However, another giveaway was the soot in your fur. There was a fire last night in Tundratown. No casualties, but three were burned. Two had to be hospitalized, but one was treated on scene." The first employee then approached, completely shocked.
"He just talked about that before we opened. He was there for three hours last night. How do YOU know about it?!" They asked.
"I was there, too." Ron said. He then pulled out his wallet and opened it to reveal his badge and ID.
"You're a cop?!" The first employee asked. The third one then tensed up, accidentally spilling hot coffee onto their paws. They grunted in pain before running them under cold water. The second employee then went over to them and started treating their burns.
"Sgt. Ron Nolan," Ron spoke, "Zootopia Police SIU."
"SIU? What's that?" The first employee asked.
"Special Investigations Unit." Ron said.
"You mean like a task force?" The first employee asked.
"No," Ron said, "not a task force. The SIU goes after the worst of the worst. Murderers, terrorists, you name it."
"Sounds interesting." The first employee said. Ron then looked at them.
"Have a seat. You look like you could use a break." He spoke. The first employee then sat down across from him, looking worried.
'I hope he won't press charges.' They thought.
"What's your name?" Ron asked.
"R-Rebecca Hollister." They spoke.
"Where are you from? Are you new to town?" Ron asked.
"No," Rebecca said, "I've lived in Zootopia all my life. Born and raised in Downtown."
"Why work here? It's obvious you don't like it just from the first day." Ron asked.
"I have bills and tuition to pay." Rebecca said.
"You're in college?" Ron asked.
"I'm trying to get through my last year of med school. I'm hoping to get into the Psychology profession." Rebecca said.
"That's a good field to go into." Ron said.
"You think so?" Rebecca asked.
"Oh, yeah. Lord knows how useful they are. I can't tell you how many times I've had to visit the ZPD Psychologist." Ron said.
"Tough cases?" Rebecca asked.
"That's an understatement. Hell," Ron said, "I was the first victim of the Night Howlers incident. Before that, I had to investigate the murder of my childhood crush while I was still in school. Before that, I was abandoned in Downtown Zootopia by my biological parents."
"How awful!" Rebecca said.
"You have no idea. After the Night Howlers incident," Ron said, "I was out of action so I could recover. Not much that did for me. After I got back, I was promoted to Sergeant. No sooner did that happen, I lost my home due to an arsonist. After that, I became leader of the SIU. First case we had was the murder of a fellow ZPD Officer. Their newborn child had found them. I took care of the child as my team investigated. After that investigation, I was doing reports and paperwork until I went to drop off a vehicle to two of my team that were on vacation. As I was there, I encountered my birth parents."
"How'd that go?" Rebecca asked.
"Birth father tried to kill me," Ron said, "birth mother killed in the crossfire, birth father tried killing my biological brother, and I had no choice but to kill my birth father with a DDT."
"Ooh," Rebecca said, "sorry to hear that, Sgt. Nolan." Ron then shook his head. Rebecca looked confused, but Ron smiled.
"I'm off today because of what happened yesterday. Just call me Ron." He spoke. Rebecca smiled in return and nodded.
"Would you… care for some coffee? Without it being spilled on you, this time?" She asked. Ron gave a chuckle.
"Only if you have some with me. We'll split a cinnamon roll, too." Ron said. Rebecca looked shocked.
"A-are you asking me out right now?" She asked.
"If I were," Ron said, "I'd be wearing a shirt." Rebecca scoffed, but giggled. The second employee then walked over with the third one.
"I believe there's something you need to say to her." The second one spoke, looking at the third one. The third one sighed before looking at Rebecca.
"I'm sorry I called you klutzy." They said. Ron then gave a glare.
"You don't really mean it, do you?" Ron asked.
"How would you know?" The third asked.
"You're dominant right. Your eyes went down and to the left just now." Ron spoke. The third employee was shocked. Just then, the fourth employee approached and sighed. They then went to the third employee.
"Apron." They said.
"What?" The third one asked.
"Apron!" The fourth one said, having more force behind it. The third one then took the apron off and gave it to the fourth one.
"What just happened?" Rebecca asked. Ron looked at Rebecca with a soft smile.
"He just got fired." Ron spoke.
"What?!" The third one asked.
"He's absolutely right. You've had plenty of chances. You're done. Clock out and go home." The fourth said. The third then went dejected and sighed before leaving. The fourth then looked at Rebecca.
"I'm about to get back to work now!" She said.
"Relax," Ron said, "she's not getting onto you."
"Huh?" Rebecca asked. The former employee then left and Ron looked at the fourth employee.
"Isn't that right, Clawford?" Ron asked. The fourth employee then grinned and nodded.
"Took you long enough to recognize me, Sergeant." They said.
"I recognized you when you were cleaning the spill," Ron said, "I just didn't say anything." Clawford then scoffed.
"Then why haven't you asked me what shift I'm on?" She asked.
"Because I know you're still suspended as a result of your partner's misconduct." Ron said.
"Of course you do." Clawford said.
"You don't have to worry about it for too much longer. Your partner is almost finished with his punishment." Ron said.
"What's his punishment? Parking duty?" The second employee asked.
"Actually, yes." Ron said.
"Seriously? I was just joking. What did he do?" The second employee asked.
"He didn't brief his CO before going after a suspect," Ron said, "and caused five innocent civilians to harmed."
"Ooh," the second employee said, "I regret asking."
"Why don't you restock the beans?" Clawford asked.
"I can do that." Rebecca said.
"I was talking to him. You suffered enough today. That apron was freshly washed when you got it," Clawford said, "and now it's got more stains on it than the beds in the nap room. Sit back and relax a bit. You deserve it after the hazing you were put through. I know how you like your jet fuel, Sergeant. She gets it the same way. I'll get those and a cinnamon roll for you two to split. On the house. I also have a spare ZPD polo in my bag. I'll grab it for you. Where's your brother, Al? Isn't he staying with you?"
"He spent the night at my parents' place. Wanted to get to know the ones that raised me." Ron said. Clawford gave a smile before nodding.
"Enough said." She spoke. She then walked off and Rebecca was stunned.
"I never would have guessed she worked at ZPD." Rebecca spoke.
"She's a Detective with the Fugitive Task Force." Ron said.
"She's been the manager here for four months. How long has she been with ZPD?" Rebecca asked.
"Coming up on four years." Ron said. Rebecca was shocked. Clawford then walked back to them, holding a polo, and gave a smile.
"Yet you made Sergeant after the same amount." She spoke.
"I fought off the effects of Night Howlers without an antidote. I'd say I earned it." Ron spoke. Clawford then held out the polo.
"Never said you didn't." She spoke. Ron took the polo and put it on.
"I'll let you know if I ever have a lead on a fugitive you're after." Ron spoke.
"I don't doubt it. You've become the talk of FTF after all." Clawford said. She then left again and Rebecca blushed lightly.
"I guess this qualifies as a date now." She said.
"Nope," Ron said, "because I never asked you with a shirt on." Rebecca giggled and Ron chuckled.
[Meanwhile….]
Wanda and Kiara were relaxing at a spa. They sat in the sauna, sighing.
"Nothing like a spa visit to help you refresh." Kiara said.
"You sound like an old lady." Wanda said.
"Not my fault." Kiara said. The two then shared a laugh over it before going to leave. As the two left, they saw Skye.
"Skye!" Wanda said. Skye looked at them and smiled, approaching them.
"Fancy seeing you two here. I thought I was the only one to visit after a tough case." Skye spoke.
"You kidding?! This place is my go to after a tough day at work in general!" Kiara said.
"She's not lying either. They're staying in business because of her." Wanda said.
"Shut up! They have other clients, too!" Kiara said.
"Not all of them show up five times a week." Wanda said. Kiara tensed up and Skye laughed.
"You try having to deal with your parents drone on and on about how you should settle down and have a family." Kiara said.
"It's not THAT bad, is it?" Skye asked.
"Every time I visit them," Kiara said, "it's the same thing. 'Have you found a mate yet?' 'Are you pregnant?' 'When will you find a nice man to take care of you so you can quit that job of yours and raise a family?' 'I know a nice man in our neighborhood, and he has a stable income. Should I give him your name?' It keeps going and going and going! Day in, day out! They used to do it on my phone before I blocked them. I got rid of social media, too!"
"Okay," Skye said, "it's THAT bad. Why don't they approve of you working?"
"They're old fashioned. My father retired from being a construction foreman. My mother was a typical housewife. She tried to teach me what she knew in terms of looking feminine," Kiara said, "but I told her she needed to stop. My father told me to mind my manners, and listen to my mother. I told him off, too. I explained that times were different. Women had jobs, too. They forbade me from getting a job, and told me that I was to learn how to raise children. I was to cook, clean, iron, press, fold, and pleasure a man. Nothing more, nothing less. It got so bad that my TEACHERS told them they needed to stop. They never did. I was required to keep my grades up, but I was forbidden to participate in any sports, community events, or volunteer programs. The only extra curricular activity they let me have in school was home economics! I was livid! I couldn't leave the house to hang out with friends because I was to learn how to be a stay-at-home wife! I had enough of it! They FINALLY backed off after one of my teachers reported them for Unlawful Imprisonment because they refused to let me go to school when my class had a field trip to a college for a play they were putting on. That's when I grew an interest in law enforcement."
"So," Skye said, "what about now?"
"They're letting me live my life," Kiara said, "but they're hounding me on going to what they were teaching me. I swear they're planning on arranging me to be married to someone I don't even know just so they can FORCE me to quit ZPD."
"If that ever happens," Skye said, "give Ron a call. You know he'll defend you."
"Yeah," Wanda said, "you don't deserve to waste away being cooped up in a house and only allowed to leave to get groceries. That's no life."
"You're telling me. That shit sucks ass." Kiara said.
"Anyways," Skye said, "I'm about to hit up a pub over in Downtown. Care to join me?"
"Don't mind if I do." Wanda said.
"I hear ya, sister." Kiara said. The three then left and talked the whole way.
[Meanwhile….]
Nick and Judy were watching TV with Cotton and Molly. Judy laid her head against Nick's chest, causing him to hold her close. Cotton and Molly then plopped to the floor, having fallen asleep to the show. Judy giggled before she and Nick got up and carried them to their room. They put them in their beds before quietly leaving and closing the door. Nick then gave a sigh before going to the TV and turning it off.
"Thought they would never fall asleep." Nick spoke.
"I know. There's only so much I can take of that show before I lose my mind." Judy said.
"Right?!" Nick asked.
"Who would watch a show about a sponge that lives in a fruit under the sea in a town that's LITERALLY an innuendo?!" Judy asked. Nick sighed before holding his head.
"Ugh," he spoke, "I'm getting a headache just thinking about it." Nick then sat down and Judy sat next to him. Judy then gave a soft smile before motioning for Nick to lie his head on her lap. Nick didn't hesitate and did just that, closing his eyes in the process. Judy then gently massaged his temples, causing him to sigh in relief.
"Is it going away?" Judy asked.
"Yeah," Nick said, "your paws are melting it away."
"I'm glad." Judy said. Nick eased his breathing, causing Judy to giggle slightly.
"You're lulling me to sleep, Jude." Nick spoke.
"Is your headache completely gone now?" Judy asked.
"Not quite." Nick said.
"Then I won't stop until it is." Judy said. Nick then smiled and started dozing off.
'Her paws work wonders for my headaches. I should try and return the favor next time.' Nick thought. Nick then gave a yawn before falling asleep. Judy giggled a bit before stopping and grabbing a blanket off the back of the couch. She then lifted Nick's head off her lap, gently moving him to one side, before covering him with the blanket. She then lied down with him, cuddling him and putting her head on his chest. She felt Nick hold her close and closed her eyes, falling asleep soon after. As the two slept, the spirits of Judy's parents watched over them before fading away with smiles on their faces. After a good two hours, Nick woke up and yawned. He then looked at saw Judy still sleeping, smiling happily. He decided to let her sleep, but his phone had other ideas. However, he was fast enough to answer it before Judy could wake up.
"Go for Wilde." Nick spoke, being quiet so Judy could sleep.
"How professional, Nicky! You make me so proud!" A voice spoke.
"Mom?" Nick asked.
"You know it, sweetie! How's my law fox doing?" His mom asked.
"Fairly well considering. Why the sudden call?" Nick asked.
"I was just thinking I haven't been to your place yet. I would like to visit you from time to time." His mom spoke.
"I'll have to discuss that." Nick said. Nick's mom then gasped.
"Does my Nicky have a mate?!" She asked, hopeful.
"Not per se. I just don't want you freaking out. I'll ask her whenever she wakes up." Nick spoke.
"Oh," his mom said, catching on, "I get it now. It's your bunny partner. Judy, right?"
"Can we NOT talk about this while she's using my chest as a pillow?" Nick asked.
"Relax, Nick. I'm not mad. I approve!" His mom spoke.
"Huh?" Nick asked.
"I had dated a sheep in my youth, you know. I don't have a problem with it! You don't choose who you love, right?" His mom asked.
"Yeah. That's right." Nick said.
"I'm proud of you. Talk to her and send me the address, okay?" His mom asked. Nick smiled.
"I will, mom." He spoke. Just then, as his mother was talking, Judy had reached up and pulled his phone down, much to Nick's shock. She then sent her the address using his phone before putting his phone back to his ear.
"Oh! Looks like you talked pretty fast! I just got your address!" His mom said.
"Because she woke up and sent it to you." Nick said. His mom giggled.
"Guess she wants to meet me. I'll try and visit sometime. Okay?" She asked. Nick smiled.
"That's fine, mom." He said. He then heard an announcement in the background for a train to Zootopia being ready for boarding.
"Oh! I gotta go!" His mom said.
"Did you just hustle me for my address?!" Nick asked.
"It's not a hustle if I'm being serious. I want to visit. I'll text you whenever I'm close." His mom said. Nick chuckled before smiling.
"See you soon, mom." He said. He then hung up and Judy looked at him.
"She hustled you good, Nick." Judy spoke.
"It's not a hustle if you're being serious." Nick spoke. Judy giggled and Nick looked at her. The two then shared a kiss before they heard the patter of footsteps.
"Your turn on food." Judy said. Nick sighed and got up as Judy folded the blanket back, putting it back over the couch.
[Meanwhile….]
Ron had walked Rebecca home. As they approached the house, two wolf cubs ran up excitedly.
"Becky's home!" One said.
"Who's your friend?" The other asked.
"This is Ron. He was nice enough to walk me home." Rebecca said.
"Are you two dating?" The first cub asked. Rebecca blushed before giving a glare and a pout.
"I just said he was nice enough to walk me home. We just met today." She spoke. A laugh got their attention.
"Leave them alone, children. Stop being nosy." A voice said. Ron looked and he tensed up as Rebecca's parents approached. He soon composed himself before they got to them.
"Why's he so quiet?" One of the cubs asked.
"Hush!" The other scolded. Rebecca's father then approached Ron.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Humphrey. This is my wife, Kate." Her dad spoke, holding his paw out.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance." Ron spoke, shaking Humphrey's paw.
"Thank you for making sure our daughter got home safe." Kate said. Ron went to speak, but stopped as he heard a window roll down. He looked to the side and saw a car moving slow, seeing the barrel of an AK-47 sticking out.
"GET DOWN!!!!" Ron yelled. He tackled Rebecca down before Humphrey did the same to Kate. No sooner did that happen, the one inside the car had opened fire. Ron drew his pistol from his holster and crawled to behind a car before hearing the gun stop. The car sped off, but Ron jumped up and opened fire. The car then swerved and hit a light pole.
"Are they okay?!" Kate asked.
"STAY HERE!" Ron ordered. He then tactically approached the car and looked inside. He soon saw the trunk open and someone jumped out.
'Shit!' Ron thought. He then aimed at them.
"ZPD! FREEZE!" Ron yelled. The mammal froze in their tracks before turning around, aiming at Ron with a grin. However, Ron glared fired off a shot before they could, killing them. Ron then pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
'This will have me doing paperwork for a week.' Ron thought.
"This is Sgt. Ron Nolan," Ron spoke, "badge number 0176, Zootopia Police Special Investigations Unit. Shots fired at my location. Three suspects down. Requesting ZFD, Gang Unit, and TCD."
[Moments later….]
Nick and Judy pulled up to the scene and went straight to Ron.
"Ron!" Judy said. Ron looked at them and sighed.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Nick asked.
"Right place, right time happened. This part of Downtown is crime-ridden." Ron said.
"That doesn't help." Judy said.
"Drive-by shooting. Mammal with an AK-47 shot up a house down the block. They tried getting away, but I returned fire. Hit the driver of the vehicle, caused them to swerve and hit the light pole. Suspect with the AK got to the trunk and tried to escape, but I stopped them. They left no choice." Ron spoke.
"Why is Gang Unit and TCD here then?" Nick asked.
"TCD is here to manage traffic flow and keep vehicles from the scene. Three suspects are part of the Zootopia Chapter of LVM." Ron said.
" La Vida Mala?!" Judy asked.
"Holy shit!" Nick said. Ron motioned for the two to follow him. They listened and Ron took them to Rebecca's house. They saw Wanda, Kiara, and Skye as they were comforting Kate and Humphrey. Rebecca then walked over, holding one of the wolf cubs. Time then slowed as Nick and Judy looked to their right, seeing a wolf cub get covered with a sheet by a paramedic. Nick was shocked, as was Judy, but they knew the gravity of the situation. They looked away and time resumed.
"Rebecca," Ron said, "these are two more of my team: Detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Nick and Judy, meet Rebecca Hollister."
"Wish it were under better circumstances." Judy said.
"We're sorry for your loss." Nick said.
"Thank you." Rebecca said. The wolf cub sniffled, causing Nick to look at them.
"What's your name?" Nick asked.
"J-Juno." The cub said.
"That's a nice name. Did you try and help your sibling?" Nick asked. Juno nodded.
"I was so scared," she spoke, "but I tried to help him! I really did!"
"Hey! Hey! It's okay! It's okay. You were very brave, Juno." Nick said. Juno sniffled.
"I was?" She asked.
"Yeah. You were. You knew it was dangerous," Nick said, "but you faced it head-on to try and save your brother. That's what we do everyday. We face the toughest, most evil mammals that plague this city with crime."
"Is it dangerous?" Juno asked.
"Very dangerous. In fact," Nick said, "sometimes even WE need to call for backup. However, we face those dangers head-on each time we put on the uniform. Have you ever thought about what you want to be when you grow up?" Juno nodded.
"I… I want to be like my daddy." She spoke.
"What does he do?" Nick asked.
"He's a Prosecutor." Juno said.
"He WAS a Prosecutor. He retired after my mother was pregnant with me." Rebecca said.
"Well," Nick said, "I want to give you something, Juno." Nick then pulled out a replica badge and Juno gasped.
"F-for me?" She asked.
"Yeah," Nick said, "for you. Because you were so brave." Nick then pinned the badge to her shirt, being mindful of where his paws were, and Rebecca gave a smile.
"What do you say to him, Juno?" She asked.
"Thank you." Juno said.
"Thank YOU for your bravery." Nick said. Judy gave a smile of her own and Ron looked at Rebecca.
"The Gang Unit might be investigating this one." He spoke.
"Thank you for being here." Rebecca said.
"I'll see you around." Ron said. He then started walking away.
"No," Juno pleaded, "don't leave! What if they try again?!" Ron then froze in his tracks.
"What do you mean, Juno?" Rebecca asked. Juno then covered her mouth. Ron then looked at her.
"Juno," Ron spoke, "if you know something you need to tell us. We can protect you." Juno looked towards her brother's body before looking back at Ron.
"LVM started to recruit children. They don't give a choice. It's either you join or you die." Juno said.
"They were trying to recruit your brother." Judy said.
"He wouldn't let them. They've been trying to recruit me, too!" Juno said.
"That does it. We're getting them into protective custody." Ron said.
"Wait, what?" Rebecca asked.
"Wanda, Kiara, Skye," Ron spoke, "get them inside and have them pack for a month to be safe!"
"We were planning on going on a trip today." Kate said.
"Our train leaves in 30 minutes!" Humphrey said.
"We'll escort them." Wanda said.
"Huh?!" Kate asked.
"LVM is targeting your children because they won't join up with them. Rebecca and Juno are going into protective custody as of now." Ron said.
"Judy and I will take them inside." Skye said.
"Nick and I will watch the outside." Ron said. Kiara then went into the house and grabbed Kate and Humphrey's bags, taking them to the vehicle her and Wanda arrived in with Skye.
"Come on. We'll help you." Judy said.
"Where will we stay?" Rebecca asked.
"Do you want to risk LVM following?" Judy asked, making sure her voice was low. Rebecca caught on and looked around.
"Forget I asked." She spoke. Judy and Skye then took the two inside as Nick came back, having walked to his and Judy's SUV to grab their rifles and Kevlar vests. Nick had put his on, holding out a spare for Ron. Ron put the vest on before taking the rifle. He stood on one side of the door as Nick stood on the other. One of the Gang Unit then approached.
"Wilde told us everything. We won't ask where they'll be." They spoke. Ron nodded and the Gang Unit took up a perimeter around the house to make sure that Rebecca and Juno stayed safe. Judy then came out with Skye as they carried the bags, Rebecca and Juno following.
"You got a car seat?" Skye asked.
"We do." Judy said.
"Let's get moving." Skye said. Ron and Nick then led the way as the Gang Unit kept the perimeter secure. Rebecca and Juno were rushed to Nick and Judy's vehicle. Ron opened the door and Juno was put in the car seat by Rebecca, getting buckled in.
"I'll ride in the hatch." Ron said.
"No," Skye said, "I will. You stay near her. She's more comfortable with you than me." Skye then held out a paw and Ron got the memo. He passed the rifle to Nick before taking the spare vest off and giving it to Skye. She put the vest on and took the rifle from Nick before going into the hatch and closing it. Ron then got in with Rebecca as Nick sat up front. Judy then turned the ELS on before driving away. TCD allowed her to pass through, knowing the gravity of the situation.
"Where to, boss?" Nick asked.
"My place. Take the scenic route." Ron said.
"Huh? Why that route?" Judy asked.
"In case LVM follows. ZFP is aware of what's happening. They're sending replica vehicles to meet and go to different safe houses throughout Zootopia." Ron said.
"Leaving them to send gang members to the wrong places so they get caught!" Juno said.
"That's brilliant!" Rebecca said. Sure enough, three LVM Lieutenants had seen them and one pulled out a phone.
"The puta is in protective custody now. ZPD has her." They spoke.
"Then REMOVE her from protective custody! We can handle a few ZPD." Their leader said.
"It's not regular Officers, jefe. It's the SIU." Another said.
"What?! How did the Unidad de Investigaciones Especiales get her before us?!" Their leader asked.
"Their Sergeant was there when the hit went down. Took out three of our boys." The third said.
"You listen to me. That puta Juno is OUR property! I'm the one to mark her," the leader said, "but she'll belong to ALL of us. Unless you three want to be the last ones to breed her, I suggest you send some teams to retrieve her and bring her to me! ENTENDER?!?!"
" Sí, jefe. Our breeding machine will be back before you are." The first said.
[Hours later….]
It was dark out as Judy stopped at Ron's house, Nick and Skye getting out first and taking up positions. Judy then got out and Rebecca got Juno out of the car seat. Ron grabbed their bags and got out, having Rebecca hurry to the other side. Ron followed and walked with Rebecca to the door. He went to unlock it, but saw the lock was broken. He motioned to Nick and Skye, having them go in first. The two followed the command, Judy going in after. Nick looked around, as did Skye. Judy drew her pistol and pulled out a flashlight as she saw three silhouettes down the hall. Nick and Skye saw the same and aimed down. Judy then turned her flashlight on and blinded them.
"ZOOTOPIA POLICE! ON THE GROUND!" Judy ordered.
"DO IT NOW!" Nick ordered.
"FACE DOWN!" Skye ordered. The three had listened, as they couldn't see. Nick approached and looked at Skye.
"They have LVM colors." He said.
"They're top lieutenants. I recognize the pattern." Skye said. Nick then restrained them as Judy holstered her pistol and pulled out her radio.
"SIU Portable to Central," Judy said, "we need three transport units and Gang Unit to our current GPS location."
"Copy," Clawhauser spoke, "units en route."
"That puta is LVM property. You can't take her!" One of the lieutenants said.
"Her name is Juno," Judy said, "not puta. I highly suggest you refrain from calling another girl that if you value your ability to have children."
"Try it, puta!" Another said.
"HEY! Don't speak to my partner like that again or I'LL be the one to chop your balls and dick off! You got that?!" Nick asked. The three tensed up.
" Lo lamento!" The second one squeaked.
"That's what I thought." Nick said.
" Malditos idiotas." Skye muttered. Soon enough, sirens were heard and Nick sighed.
"We're ALL doing paperwork for a week after this." Nick said.
[Moments later….]
Ron walked up to Rebecca and sighed as she was sitting on his couch.
"Gang Unit and FTF are filling out the paperwork over this. I only had to fill out a Discharged Firearm report." Ron said.
"Does this mean Juno and I can go back home?" Rebecca asked.
"By no means. The leader is still out there. You'll be able to leave once he's caught." Ron said. Laughing was heard and Ron looked to see Al, who had been dropped off to get a bag of clothes packed, and Juno playing a game together.
"They seem to get along pretty well." Rebecca said.
"Yeah. They'll be good friends." Ron said. Ron then sat down and rubbed his head.
"Migraine?" Rebecca asked.
"Yeah. Haven't ate besides that cinnamon roll we shared." Ron spoke. Rebecca then patted to her lap, confusing Ron.
"Lie your head on my lap. I'll help it go away." Rebecca said.
"Are you sure? I don't want to cause any problems if you have a boyfriend." Ron said. Rebecca then blushed, looking to the side.
"I…. I don't have a boyfriend. It's fine." She spoke. Ron then mentally berated himself, but lied his head down on her lap while closing his eyes. Rebecca then slowly started to massage his head, causing him to sigh in relief. This made her smile softly.
'He is so thoughtful and gentlemanly. Maybe I should tell him the truth about Juno.' She thought. Al and Juno then laughed loudly, causing Ron to clench his eyes. Rebecca then looked at them with a light glare.
"Keep it down, please. Ron has a migraine." Rebecca said.
"Oops." Juno said.
"Sorry. We'll be more quiet." Al said. Ron then sighed in relief again, causing Rebecca to smile.
"Is Ron's head on your lap?" Juno asked.
"She must be massaging his head to help his migraine to go away. It's much easier to do lying down than sitting up or standing." Al said.
"How do you know?" Juno asked.
"Ron's mom taught me that after I was hit in the head by a pole. It didn't leave a mark," Al said, "but my head was hurting after. She had me lie my head in her lap and she massaged my head to help the pain go away. It has something to do with blood causing pressure in the brain."
"Ah, okay. So," Juno said, "how do you know Ron?"
"He's my big brother." Al said.
"So," Juno said, "you share a dad?"
"It's a bit more complicated and tragic than that." Al said. Juno then caught on and went solemn.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bring it up!" She said.
"It's fine. You didn't know." Al said.
"So," Juno said, "Ron took you in after it happened?"
"Yeah. He's a better father figure than our own father ever was. I'm lucky to have him!" Al said.
"Wish I could say the same. I'd love to have a big brother like Ron." Juno said.
"I'd love to have a big sister like Rebecca." Al said.
"Juno isn't her sister." Ron said. Rebecca was shocked, and Juno tensed. Al then looked at Rebecca before looking back at Juno.
"How did I not see it until now?" Al said.
"You knew?" Rebecca asked.
"From the moment I saw her." Ron said.
"Why didn't you say something?" Rebecca asked.
"Because I know it's a sensitive subject. I didn't want to bring up a bad memory." Ron said. Juno then got up and went to Ron.
"You're not going to judge her?" She asked.
"Why would I? Thou shalt not judge lest they be judged themselves." Ron said. Juno then teared up and Ron looked at her, opening his eyes slightly.
"You're the first mammal to know the truth and not judge her." She spoke. Rebecca stopped massaging Ron's head as Juno hugged Ron. Ron returned the hug softly.
"So long as you and her are under my roof," Ron said, "I will protect you both with my life."
"He means it, too. Ron has an entire team at his disposal, after all." Al said, making a light joke. Rebecca giggled a bit before her stomach grumbled.
"Guess I need to eat, too." She said, now blushing from embarrassment. Ron then broke the hug and sat up.
"I'll get started on cooking then." He said. A knock at the door then caught their attention and Ron went on alert. He stood up and went near the door, putting a paw on his pistol just in case.
"Relax, Ron. It's just us." Wanda said, making herself known. Ron gave a grin and opened the door.
"What brings you guys here?" Ron asked. Skye then held up some food and Nick held up some drinks.
"Figured we could introduce the rest of your family to them over dinner." Kiara said. Ron chuckled.
"Saves me from having to cook. Come on in!" Ron said. They all came in and Juno was shocked. Rebecca giggled and Ron looked at the two, smiling.
"We'll set the table." Nick said.
"Don't you need plates and silverware?" Juno asked. Kiara then pulled out a pack of paper plates and some plastic silverware.
"Easy cleanup." She said. Ron smiled and gave a nod.
"What about cups?" Juno asked.
"Right here!" Nick said, holding up a pack of plastic cups.
"Napkins?" Juno asked.
"Yup!" Skye said, holding up a pack.
"Tablecloth?!" Juno asked. Judy held one up.
"Before you ask," Wanda said, holding up some pints of ice cream, "we got dessert, too."
"Toppings?" Juno asked. Wanda held up a bag that contained the toppings for the ice cream and Juno was shocked. Ron then grinned and went to Juno, kneeling down.
"We're not the most elite unit in the ZPD for nothing." He said. He then heard a gasp behind him and looked.
"Uncle Ron!" Cotton said, running to him.
"Hey!" Ron said. Cotton then hugged him and he hugged back.
"I thought I wouldn't get to see you today!" Cotton said. They broke the hug and Ron chuckled.
"You know I always make time to try and visit," Ron said, "but that's not important. What's with the 'Uncle Ron?' I'm no older than your aunt!" Cotton giggled a bit.
"Aunt Judy sees you as her brother," Cotton said, "so of COURSE I'm calling you Uncle Ron!" Ron then grinned and pulled Molly off his head.
"Aw," Molly said, "I wanted to surprise wolf."
"Nice try, Molly." Ron said. Rebecca giggled and Juno smiled at seeing the interaction. Cotton and Molly looked at them surprised.
"Oh," Cotton said, nervous, "h-hello."
"Cotton, Molly," Ron said, "these are Juno and Rebecca Hollister. They're going to be staying with me and Al for a bit. Juno and Rebecca, these two are Judy's niece, Cotton, and younger sister, Molly."
"It's nice to meet you both." Rebecca said.
"You, too." Molly said, now smiling.
"Are they under protective custody? Is that why they're staying here?" Cotton asked. Juno was shocked.
"You catch on quick!" Juno said.
"I want to be in ZPD when I get older! Aunt Judy and Uncle Nick taught me most of what they know." Cotton said.
"Most?" Rebecca asked.
"They said I had to learn the rest whenever I turn 18." Cotton said.
"Wait," Juno said, "are you talking about how to shoot a rifle?"
"Yeah! How'd you know?" Cotton asked.
"Because that's how old you have to be to purchase a rifle or shotgun. You need to be 21 to purchase a pistol or revolver," Juno said, "and you can only carry it in the city with a Concealed Carry Permit. That means you'll learn how to shoot a pistol at the ZPD Academy."
"Really?!" Cotton asked.
"She's right." Nick said, walking past to go into the kitchen for something.
"How do YOU know that?!" Cotton asked.
"My grandpa was a Prosecutor!" Juno said.
"Juno!" Rebecca said, tensing up.
"It's okay," Skye said, "we know."
"You know?!" Rebecca asked.
"Your parents told me and my partner." Wanda said.
"I caught on from just a look at Juno." Skye said.
"We knew from how tight she was holding you." Judy said.
"Wow," Juno said, "you really ARE the most elite unit in ZPD!"
"Dinner is served!" Nick said.
"We're just in time then!" A voice said. Ron looked and saw his siblings run to him and hug him. He hugged them in return and Fuli looked shocked.
"Aren't you the girl from the coffee shop?" She asked.
"I am." Rebecca said. Kion then gave a smile and nodded.
"I approve of her, Ron. Found yourself a keeper." He spoke.
"Dad!" Ron scolded.
"Relax," Kion said, "I'm just teasing… mostly." Ron sighed and Nick approached.
"Pleasure to meet the other half that raised our Sergeant." Nick spoke. Kion looked at Nick with a grin.
"The first fox in ZPD, Nicholas Piberius Wilde. I never thought you'd get through the Academy." He spoke.
"All of it was a breeze. You just need to get the right mindset." Nick said.
"Well said. If you hadn't been picked for SIU," Kion said, "I'd have tapped you for SVU."
"Much as that would appease Bogo," Nick said, "that isn't for me. I'm more suited for tougher investigations. Ones that my nose alone CAN'T solve." Kion gave a hearty chuckle.
"I guess it WOULD be too easy for you! Your sense of smell is akin to a wolf's!" Kion said.
"Comparing me to your son, are you?" Nick asked. Kion tensed and cleared his throat.
"Apologies," Kion said, "I get a bit carried away. I feel a sense of pride knowing my son is one of the most elite investigators in ZPD."
"Anyways," Fuli said, "we brought some sweet bread rolls. Figured they would go well with what you have for dinner." Judy approached with a grin.
"Kings Pawaiian rolls can go with ANYTHING." She said.
"I'll set these at the table then." Fuli said. Kion then got serious and looked at Judy.
"Our first bunny, Judith Laverne Hopps." He spoke.
"Yes, sir." Judy said.
"I hear you and Wilde are living together." Kion said.
"As you and your mate did when you were on patrol together." Judy said.
"You two are dating, no?" Kion asked.
"Are you against it?" Nick asked.
"Far from it. I fully support it. Just don't put your career over each other." Kion said.
"We won't, sir." Judy said. Nick then held her close and Kion smiled.
"Good on you." He said. Ron then went to close the door, but stopped as he saw two lions and a lioness approach. Ron then looked at Kion, confused.
"Did you invite anyone, dad?" Ron asked, getting Kion's attention.
"Not that I know of. Why?" Kion asked.
"Two lions and a lioness are approaching." Ron said. Kiara went pale.
'Oh, no.' She thought. Ron saw this and went on alert looking back at the approaching three as they tried to enter.
"Stop there." Ron said.
"Move." The lioness spoke.
"Why don't you make me?" Ron asked, showing his badge. The three were shocked.
"A cop?!" One of the lions asked.
"Try your daughter's Sergeant in ZPD." Ron said. The lioness was floored.
"You're Kiara's Sergeant?" She asked.
"I am," Ron said, "and I think it would benefit her if you NOT try and control her life."
"You know nothing of tradition." The first lion said.
"I know plenty. I was raised by a lion and cheetah because my biological parents abandoned me when I was only 5. They taught me PLENTY about tradition." Ron said.
"We just want to talk to her!" The second lion said.
"About the marriage her parents arranged with you so she can quit ZPD?" Ron asked. The three tensed up, shocked.
"How did you?!" The lioness asked.
"Why else would you be showing up to my house unannounced?" Ron asked.
"What?!" The second lion asked.
"Listen here," Ron said, "and listen good. Kiara is a grown woman. She has her own life, her own routine, and her own source of income. She's a great woman, and a damn good cop. If you actually care about your daughter, a hundred percent, you'd support whatever decision she makes concerning her life. Whether she's single and independent, or not. I won't let my team be concerned about trivial matters their family decides for them. So, if you have a problem with your daughter being independent and living on her own, you need to get over it and accept it. You're too overbearing, too nosy, and all around too annoying. This is the only time I'm telling you. Leave Kiara alone. If you so much as talk to her in the street without her giving you permission, I'll charge you with harassment and violation of a NCO. She doesn't want to talk to you, she doesn't want to see you, she doesn't want to constantly visit you. Now, do I make myself clear?" Before the three could try and speak, Nick, Judy, Wanda, Fuli, and Kion appeared behind him. The three were in total shock.
"Crystal." The first lion said.
"Good. Now," Ron said, his glare more sinister, "you have five seconds to get off my property before I shoot your sorry asses. GO!" The three then tensed in fear and ran to the vehicle they came in, speeding off once they all were in. Ron sighed and Kion patted his shoulder.
"You did good, son." He said.
"Thanks, dad." Ron said. Rebecca had seen it all and stared in absolute awe.
'If that is just for his colleague,' she thought, 'I can only imagine if it were to be for his family.' Juno looked at Rebecca and smiled.
"I like him." She spoke. Ron walked in with the others, closing the door and sighing as he went to sit down. Kiara then ran to him and hugged him, tears in her eyes.
"Thank you! How did you even know about what they were trying to force me to do?" Kiara asked.
"DiCaprio gave me a heads up when she saw your name on a marriage certificate that didn't have your signature. They were working a forging case." Ron said.
"How old was it?" Kiara asked.
"They tried to marry you off when you were only 10." Ron said. Kiara hugged Ron tighter, and Ron gently returned it as Kiara gave soft sobs.
"Thank you." She whispered.
"Dry those tears. Dinner's getting cold." Ron said.
"Let's eat!" Nick said. Everyone then went to the table and sat down. They all shared funny stories that they experienced, which lightened the mood a bit. Rebecca smiled as this happened, and she soon felt something she hadn't in awhile: love. She looked at Ron, seeing him wiping Juno's muzzle before showing her how to eat properly.
"They might be here for protective custody," Nick said, "but I get the feeling they'll be moving in!"
"Why's that?" Fuli asked. Nick looked at Rebecca and grinned.
"Because Rebecca's looking at Ron like how Judy looks at me." He said. Rebecca tensed up and Ron looked at Nick.
"Keep teasing her and YOU'LL be doing parking duty instead of Clawford's partner." Ron said. Nick recoiled and Fuli laughed.
"Remind you of something?" She asked.
"You mean when Bogo threatened to stick me on parking duty if I ever broke your heart?" Kion asked.
"Yup!" Fuli said.
"Is it really that bad?" Juno asked.
"You have no idea." Judy said.
"Huh?" Rebecca asked.
"Aunt Judy was given parking duty her first day on the job. It's all she was assigned to do until after she found the missing mammals." Cotton said.
"All you're doing is writing tickets, right?" Juno asked.
"Writing tickets," Judy said, "booting cars, dealing with irate mammals, getting zero respect."
"Not to mention the joke mobile." Nick said.
"Ugh," Judy said, "don't remind me."
"You had graduated top of your class, I heard. Why were you given parking duty instead of being put on the missing mammals case from the start?" Fuli asked.
"Because I'm/she's a bunny." Judy and Nick spoke, simultaneously.
"Discrimination much?" Juno asked.
"Right?!" Nick asked.
"That old bison probably had a reason for it. You were a rookie," Kion said, "and the others were more experienced. Maybe he didn't want you in a dangerous situation before he was sure you could handle it."
"Ron was the first victim of Night Howlers," Wanda said, "and it was only because he was on a case. It makes sense for Bogo not to make the same mistake twice."
"He was the test subject." Nick said.
"After knowing the effects would work, they formulated the plan." Kiara said.
"Which got foiled when Nick and I solved the case so I could prove myself!" Judy said.
"The other reason is because you didn't have a TO." Kion said.
"I earned top marks at the academy! I didn't NEED a TO!" Judy said.
"No matter how you look at it," Ron said, "Bogo was being discriminate. Every way to Sunday. He realized his mistake AFTER Judy solved the case and Bellwether was discovered to be the mastermind."
"Guess he needed a wake-up call." Kion said.
"That he did," Ron said, "and he got it." Rebecca then smiled and Juno finished eating.
"May I please be excused? I'm finished." Juno spoke.
"You may. We'll get you when dessert is ready." Ron said.
"Thanks, dad." Juno said, getting up. She then froze as everyone looked at her. Ron was shocked, and Rebecca blushed in embarrassment.
'Too soon!' Rebecca thought.
"I…. I didn't mean to say that. I swear!" Juno said. Ron then gave a sigh before looking at Rebecca.
"If it can happen to my parents," Ron said, "it can happen to us. Your call though."
"Huh?" Rebecca asked.
"They started dating their first day as partners," Ron said, "which also happened to be the day they met. Catching on?" Rebecca was floored, looking at Kion and Fuli.
"He's right." Fuli said.
"Can't help who you fall in love with." Kion said. Rebecca then gave a sigh, looking back to Ron after.
"Screw it. Why not? I'll give you a chance." Rebecca said.
"Seriously?!" Juno asked, hopeful.
"Yes, Juno. I'm being serious." Rebecca said.
"No way!" Juno said, smiling.
"I hope I don't regret this." Rebecca said.
"You won't regret it." Ron said.
"Did you pack some clothes Al?" Fuli asked.
"I did. First thing after I was dropped off." Al said.
"Good." Fuli said.
"So," Judy said, "is Rebecca going to be sharing a bed with you, Ron? I mean, you two ARE dating now."
"Too early for that. I'll sleep on the couch." Ron said, taking a bite of food before wiping his mouth with a napkin to signal he was done. Juno then left the table and Rebecca gave a light blush.
"I don't mind, you know. I'm a heavy sleeper." She said.
"Still," Ron said, "I don't want you feeling uncomfortable if I end up having 'morning wood' because we're sharing a bed. Therefore, I'm sleeping on the couch." Rebecca caught on and blushed deeper.
"I wouldn't mind that either." She muttered, making sure no children heard it. Nick almost did a spit take, Judy helping him as he started coughing. Ron was shocked.
"Did we just hear that right?" Fuli asked.
"Hear what?" Cotton asked, confused.
"I think that's something they'll tell us when we're older." Al said.
"What Al just said." Kiara said.
'Is she desperate?' Skye thought.
"You good, Nick?" Wanda asked.
"Yeah," Nick said, his coughing now stopped, "I'm good. I'm good. Just… whew! I cannot un-hear that."
"Neither can I." Judy said.
"Trust me," Ron said, "it's too soon."
"What if it isn't?" Rebecca asked.
"I haven't even marked you." Ron said.
"Then mark me. I just…. I don't think I can sleep alone tonight." Rebecca said. Ron then looked into her eyes and sighed, seeing a bit of fear in them.
"No funny business," Ron said, "or I'm going to the couch. Alright?" Rebecca nodded.
"Besides," Nick said, "he's never dated anyone in his life. I was scared he'd never find someone. Glad he did though."
"Even though it wasn't the way we imagined." Skye said.
"I can still assign parking duty." Ron said. Skye tensed and Nick looked hurt.
"But Sarge…." Nick spoke. Ron then grinned and picked up his drink.
"Gotcha." He said. Everyone then laughed and Rebecca leaned her head on Ron's shoulder, smiling brightly.
