Based on a post by Floralflowerpower on Tumblr. But what if Dan really is inevitable and still ends up existing when Vlad tries to 'clone' Danny again, resulting in a half ghost made with both Danny and Vlads DNA and Ectosignature?
What Danny doesn't realize at first, when faced with his worst nightmare made anew, is that while the combination of Plasmius and Phantom was inevitable, the ultimate outcome - the destruction of both Earth and the Ghost Zone- was not.
This clone looks like the monster Danny has nightmares about. That resemblance to Plasmius, the shared mannerisms and way of speaking. The blue-skinned, fire-haired ghost is very loyal to Vlad. He has anger issues. He even goes by Dan as well. But still what Danny doesn't recognize… he isn't that Dan. He hasn't had the same experiences, hasn't made the same choices that the full ghost did. The destruction of that other timeline isn't on his hands. He isn't a bloodthirsty monster. Really, he's just a teenager like Danny himself.
That isn't to say that things can't go bad very fast. Vlad isn't the best influence. Someone raised by him could be very pompous, arrogant, conniving, even cruel. Vlad has no problem using his power to take advantage of other people and to get whatever he wants and he tries to teach his son this. He pressures Dan to follow in his footsteps, to be a rich self-important asshole just like him.
But Dan doesn't have to be like Vlad. And he doesn't have to be like his evil namesake from the other timeline. He's his own person. He can make his own decisions. The right decisions. He can be a good person…. if someone will just help him see that.
And that's where Danny comes in. At first, the boy is incredibly disgusted by what Vlad has done. He's uneasy around Dan, afraid of him. He sees the clone's pompous behavior, his anger. And Danny's stomach turns in knots. This, what he's seeing, could spell disaster. It could be… the end of the world. The thought plagues his nightmares. It bleeds into his interactions with this Dan. There's mistrust, defensiveness, hostility. Danny can't help but see the monster that destroyed everything.
But what Danny doesn't see is Vlad's high, crusting expectations. He doesn't see the pressure that Dan is under as the "perfect son." Dan is stressed and he is angry and he is jealous. Because he sees Danny's loving family and friends and wishes he had people that loved him that much. He sees Danny's relationship with Jazz and wishes that he had someone to talk to when everything is too much. And he sees Danny with Elle, sees how much they enjoy each other's company. And it makes him so angry… because really, he's hurt and confused. Because Danielle is a clone like him. Sure, according to Father she's imperfect, unstable even. But she's free in a way he's never been. And she has a big brother that would do anything for her. She has Danny, the boy they were both made to be like. And Danny clearly cares about her so much.
But Danny can barely stand to even look at him. The other boy is disgusted by him. And Dan doesn't quite understand why Danny treats him with this hatred. And he doesn't understand why he even cares, why he doesn't just hate Danny in return. Maybe Dan recognizes some of their similarities, maybe he's fighting not to stoop to that level, maybe he really wishes he had the big brother that Elle does.
All these feelings would eventually blow up. Biting words are exchanged with actual blows. Secret feelings are exposed. Dan screams about how unfair it all is, how jealous he is. And Danny is angry and terrified, having flashbacks to his fight with the other Dan. This Dan slams him into the ground, a crater formed from the impact. The 'clone' holds him down and punches him. And Danny blurts out what happened with that other timeline.
Dan is pissed. Because he isn't that monster. He never did any of those things and yet Danny's been treating him like he's an abomination ever since they'd met. And because of this!? Because of decisions that Danny and Vlad made in a whole different timeline?!
Dan is angry enough to seriously hurt Danny. And he's tempted to. Danny thinks he's a monster. Maybe he should prove him right. Except… Danny's also terrified. He's crying, remembering the worst day of his life. There's so much emotional pain on the other boy's face and… Dan can understand that.
So he gets off Danny, floating to his feet and says. "I'm not that monster." He grits his teeth, shaking his head. "Why can't any of you understand?! I'm not you. I'm not my father. And I'm not that… that abomination! I'm my own person. And I'm done hoping that one day you'll see that and actually care about me."
The 'clone' leaves and now the ball is in Danny's court. What will he do? Will he be able to see that Dan is his own person? Will he be able to ask for forgiveness and make up for how he's treated the other boy? And if he does, would Dan even listen?
Or did Danny just make another enemy for himself? Is this a self fulfilling prophecy?
