Allison saw several Caitian children run by in their kimono like robes and smiled as the children played. "What a bunch of cuties." she said.
That was when Shelly Wilson came out of a woodworking shop with an ornate picture frame and waved at them. The group crossed the street and saw Shar, Rafi and Ino were with Shelly. Shar had a cloth bag full of philosophy books. Rafi was trying one of the local fruit drinks and Ino was eagerly looking around at everything. The Counselor stated, "M'rella said Mrowan City caters a bit to offworlders but I have to say that this is fabulous! They've made our people feel right at home."
"Admiral S'rrel made us feel right at home too." said Shizuka eagerly.
Samui nodded, "Yes, the Admiral is a cool character. He wants to meet the other members of the Think Tank. He calls us M'rella's Clan."
Shar said, "It's not surprising given what Ayasugi explained to me. Maya said that everything here is based around family and clan structure and that the Think Tank would be considered a clan of sorts even if we are a bit eccentric."
"Other cultures are fascinating." said Naruto. "Coming here for shore leave was an excellent idea. I'll have to thank Ozumi and Nodaway for recommending it."

Chapter 65
Stardate 2282.027, Sol System, Planet Earth, Starfleet Headquarters, San Francisco
Admiral Lance Cartwright was in a staff meeting with several Admirals concerning the current situation with the Klingon Northeast Fleet and the Federation's 4th Fleet which was keeping them at bay (so far). He drummed his fingers as he read over the commerce raiding report from Captain Naruto M'Fau as well as a follow-on report from Captain Shanna Williams regarding her own views on commerce raiding.
Admiral Fitzpatrick said, "Captain Williams believes using wolfpack tactics on enemy shipping would be a superior technique. She's requested that the U.S.S. Eagle and the U.S.S. Wolverine be sent out in tandem to hunt the supply lines of the Klingon Northeast Fleet."
"We're talking about risking two very valuable ships here." said Admiral Morrow. "Look at what happened to Captain Styles and the U.S.S. Gryphon. She's still under repair and will be for the next two months."
Fleet Admiral Nogura frowned. "I've read the reports. I've also read Captain Naruto's reaction to Styles' little battle with the I.K.V. Direslayer. He claims that the only thing Styles did right was to withdraw. Captain Williams echoed Captain Naruto independently."
"If only we had a fast squadron…" said Fitzpatrick.
Cartwright said, "We do in a sense."
"Please enlighten us as to what you mean Admiral Cartwright." said Morrow.
Lance Cartwright brought up a hologram of a fast destroyer*①. It had the same arrowhead hull of the Wolverine and her sisterships but only a single warp engine below the hull on its centerline like all Federation destroyers. "I know NCC-551 U.S.S. Two Moons was lost battling a space creature but it's four sisterships are basically rotting away on reserve in the 2nd Fleet. They are the only ships that can keep up with the fast cruisers."
"Wasn't the fast destroyer considered a complete failure?" asked Fitzpatrick.
"The way they were to be employed as destroyer leaders with normal destroyers? Absolutely." said Cartwright. "But if we put a pair of them with a fast cruiser then we have a small but very fast and powerful squadron." A hologram of the current assignments of the fast destroyer class came up:

Admiral Morrow quickly pieced the picture together. "So the Konigsberg and the Wotan go with Captain Williams on the Eagle, and the Thor and the Brunhild go with Captain Sty-"
"The Thor and Brunhild will go with Captain Naruto on the Wolverine." said Nogura with a tone of finality. "Styles may have Command experience but he sure as hell can't handle a fast cruiser. I want him transferred laterally to a normal heavy cruiser that he bloody well knows how to use."

Stardate 2282.030, 15 Lyncis Star System, Planet Cait, Mrowan City Outskirts
Naruto was walking up a beautifully terraced path that was decorated with scented freor trees, alaanr lilies and trriel orchids. With him he had a traditional bouquet of golden Caitian eraanil roses that had one flower for each female in M'rella's family. Gold was the family color, so the flowers were gold as well.
Unfortunately, the blonde Vulcan couldn't speak Caitian so he couldn't pronounce her family name. His vocal cords simply weren't designed that way. A five-year-old child came up to Naruto and she smiled happily as he gave her an eraanil rose and greeted him with a Caitian purr that meant, ["Welcome."]
Each of the females welcomed him with an appropriate greeting (some enthusiastically, some not) and Naruto eventually met the eldest of the females, M'rella's gray furred great grandmother, L'orrl. Naruto had to speak to the elder through a universal translator and said, "Peace and long life to you Lady L'orrl. I am Naruto M'Fau of Vulcan and I have come for your blessing to marry M'rella in the traditional Caitian way."
L'orrl said, ["My great granddaughter has spoken to me at length about you and your relationship with her. You have known each other many years and yet only now do you ask to join our family. Why is that?"]
Naruto replied, "M'rella always spoke of having many children and I do not know if Vulcans and Caitians can produce offspring. It would have been selfish of me to deny her the children that she has always wanted."
["And yet you still want her?"] questioned the elder.
The blonde nodded. "I have not only a deep love for M'rella, but a deep friendship as well. She is one of those closest to me and has been for a long time."
The question-and-answer session went on for well over an hour and L'orrl finally said, ["I am convinced of the sincerity of your words but not of the emotions behind them."]
M'rella gasped and started to tear up. 'No! not after all this!' she thought.
The elder stated, ["My decision is-"]
Naruto's eyes locked with M'rella's tear filled ones and he said, "Lady L'orrl, if you would allow me to convey my thoughts in the Vulcan way before you make your final decision." There was a quiet desperation in his voice that L'orrl heard without the translator.
L'orrl said ["Explain."]
"The Vulcan people are touch telepaths." said Naruto. "I will give my thoughts to you so we can understand one another."
The elder had been told by M'rella about how she and Naruto had shared thoughts before and L'orrl said, ["Very well. I will allow this contact."]
Naruto placed his right hand on L'orrl's temple and said, "My thoughts to your thoughts…"
In L'orrl's mind she felt the massive flood of emotion hidden below the logical surface that all revolved around M'rella and his four wives. She saw his love for them was so strong that it brought tears to her eyes. The mind touch only lasted 30 seconds…
The elder opened her eyes and said, ["You love M'rella that much… It is so beautiful that it defies words."] She dabbed the tears out of her eyes and said, ["I am touched. M'rella, Naruto, I give you my blessing to be wed."]
M'rella embraced Naruto and she kissed him passionately. It was so searing that Naruto found himself lost in it and returned her kiss with equal fervor. The young couple was very happy and relieved to be together at last.
Naruto rested his forehead against M'rella's and whispered, "I thought all was lost my love."
M'rella smiled and said, "The difficult part is over; the wedding is easy."

Two days later, the wedding itself took place. It was a very large affair as M'rella's Clansmen all were there as well as the members of the Think Tank and Naruto's wives representing his Clan. It was a simple matter of taking the proper vows and then drinking a ceremonial wine from the same glass. After that it was a huge celebration for the couple.
Naruto and M'rella were then sent to the Clan's Wedding House (translated literally from Caitian) to complete their union. In the meantime, the party carried on with fireworks and gentle Caitian acapella music well into the evening…

The next morning, M'rella awoke curled up in the arms of her blonde-haired mate and saw he was sleeping peacefully. She smiled mischievously and purred softly. "Hmmmm." 'I'm exhausted. Who would have ever thought Naruto was such a wild lover?' M'rella looked at his whisker marked face and thought, 'There's my big stern captain. He looks so boyish when he sleeps.'
She curled back up with her husband and decided sleeping in was the order of the day…

Stardate 2282.041, 15 Lyncis Star System, Planet Cait Orbit, NCC-1602 U.S.S Wolverine
Naruto and M'rella spent a week together on Cait enjoying their honeymoon. After that it was back to business and Naruto had to return to the ship. While the rest of U.S.S. Wolverine's crew was enjoying some serious downtime at the Mrowan Festival, Captain Naruto M'Fau was on the ship so Commander Kumo could also get some shore leave as well. On the bridge with him was Lieutenant Commander Amelia Whitaker sitting at the helm station, Lieutenant M'rella manning the communications station and Lieutenant (JG) Ayasugi Maya at the sciences station.
M'rella perked up suddenly and said, "Naruto, we have an incoming transmission from Starfleet Command. It's on a double encrypted frequency, Priority One."
Naruto stood up and said, "I'll take it in my ready room. Commander Whitaker, you have the bridge."

Captain's Ready Room
The ship's computer said in a monotone female voice, "Identification please."
"Captain Naruto M'Fau, commanding officer, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine." answered Naruto.
"Please standby for retina scan." stated the computer as it scanned Naruto's eye. "Identification confirmed. Access granted to incoming message."
Naruto sat up at attention as the message came in. It was Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura. The two stared at each other for a moment before the Fleet Admiral said, "I've been reading over your cruise notes Captain Naruto. They've been most illuminating to my staff and I. Well done, Captain."
"Thank you, sir." replied the blonde.
"New orders." stated the Fleet Admiral wasting no time. "The U.S.S. Wolverine is to rendezvous with the fast destroyers NCC-554 U.S.S. Thor and NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild on Stardate 2282.055 at Starbase 20 where you will form a Fast Squadron for commerce raiding. You will be in overall command of it Captain Naruto. Make it happen."
"Is there a timetable sir?" asked Naruto.
"You will present me with a timetable once you assess the squadron and their crews Captain." answered Nogura. "At this point the two fast destroyers are being recrewed and new officers assigned. That is all. Starfleet Command out."
"Wolverine out." replied the blonde Vulcan. 'Life just became a lot more complicated.'

Stardate 2282.048, Klingon Northeast Fleet Headquarters Starbase K-11
"Welcome to K-11, Rogueslayer Squadron. The D5L Rogueslayer, D5 Ravager and D5 Rapier are much needed additions to the Northeast Feet." said Admiral Krell*② to Captains Maang, Kadesh Duras and Kiba Warrigul. "Our losses behind the lines have lessened so you've been freed up to join us against the Federation 4th Fleet."
"I understand Commodore Kozen died in battle." said Captain Maang. "He was a great warrior. I had the honor of serving under him when I was a Lieutenant."
The Admiral said, "Rogueslayer Squadron will be replacing Kozen's Redslayer Squadron in the line of battle. Kozen's Squadron was decimated in combat."
"How did the Commodore die?" asked Kiba. "Was he avenged?"
"A Federation fast cruiser struck like a thunderbolt out of nowhere." explained Krell. "We believe it was the U.S.S. Eagle. Unfortunately, they escaped us before we could avenge Kozen."
'Sounds like something Naruto would have done…' thought Kiba. 'I wonder if he's still on the Romulan Border like our intelligence says.'
Krell looked at Kiba and said, "You have thoughts on the matter Captain Kiba?"
"I was just thinking on how to catch this fast cruiser, the Eagle." said Kiba.
The Admiral nodded and said, "The Eagle's time will come. For now, let us focus on the present..."

Stardate 2282.055, Starbase 20, Berth 10, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
After their shore leave on Cait, the Wolverine returned to Starbase 20 and was assigned to berth 10. As the fast cruiser pulled into her assigned berth, the crew noticed many of the ships of the 4th Fleet had changed. The battle damaged U.S.S. Littorio was missing, and the fast cruiser U.S.S. Eagle was notably gone as well.
However, in berths 11 and 12 were the completely refurbished NCC-554 U.S.S. Thor and NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild. The two fast destroyers were fresh out of drydock and had all the most recent upgrades authorized for the destroyer classes.
'So, this is the failed fast destroyer type that Rear Admiral Tolm called a 'knockoff' of my design.' thought Naruto.
Rafi looked wide eyed at the screen and questioned the blonde Vulcan, "Are those…?
"Those are the fast destroyers NCC-554 U.S.S. Thor and NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild, Rafi." said Naruto. "They were designed to be destroyer leaders but now are our squadron stablemates."
"Things just got a lot wilder, didn't they?" asked Rafi with a gleam in her eye.
Samui grinned at her partner in crime, "I'd say so Rafi."
Commander Kumo asked, "Did you design those ships, Captain?
Shaking his head, Naruto replied, "I did not. I was too busy designing the New Light Cruiser. However, they obviously copied many of the features of my fast cruiser design. I've been studying the fast destroyer design for the past two weeks and it appears to be sound. They don't appear to be as fast as they should be though. We will have to rectify that."
M'rella said, "Incoming message from Admiral Galloway sir."
The blonde Vulcan said, "On screen M'rella."
Admiral Thomas Galloway appeared on the main screen. The red-haired Admiral grinned, and he said, "Welcome back Captain Naruto. I'll need you to report to my office straightaway. Bring your XO and your senior watch officer. We have much to discuss about your new squadron."
"Aye sir." replied Naruto as the screen went blank. "Commander Kumo, Whitaker, you are with me. It seems we have an appointment to keep."

Starbase 20, Admiral Galloway's Office
Captain Naruto marched in with his two subordinates flanking him. The Admiral's secretary waved them into Galloway's office immediately. As the three came in and stood at attention they saw Thomas Galloway sitting at his desk with Commander Jackie Nodaway sitting across from him. She seemed to have a fire in her eyes. The Admiral said, "At ease everyone. Be seated. For those of you that don't already know her, this is Commander Jaqueline Nodaway."
Jackie already knew Mabui and Naruto well but wasn't familiar with Amelia. After the two were introduced, Jackie said, "The Littorio had keel damage, so she was sent back to Mars for repairs. They decided to keep me here."
Admiral Galloway said, "Jackie is an outstanding Captain and a superb ship handler. She was a great help in the battle with the Klingon Northeast Fleet. I couldn't let a combat experienced officer like her go so she's been transferred to your squadron Captain Naruto."
Naruto raised an eyebrow and Jackie said, "I was given the opportunity to command the fast destroyer U.S.S. Brunhild and jumped at it."
"Isn't going from a light cruiser to a destroyer a bit of a demotion Nodaway?" asked Mabui.
Jackie gave a determined smile. "Considering I'm transferring into a fast squadron that's going to rain hell on the Klingon Empire? Not in the slightest. I want to be on the offensive."
"Now for your other destroyer commander." said Galloway. "Commander Kumo, I'm giving NCC-554 U.S.S. Thor to you or I'm promoting Lieutenant Commander Whitaker to commander her. Captain Naruto gave you both outstanding fitness reports, so I'll be happy putting either of you in command. You have first choice Kumo. What will it be?"
Mabui smiled. "I believe it's past time Amelia spreads her wings. Let Whitaker command the U.S.S. Thor."
The Lieutenant Commander was a bit dumbfounded. "Are you sure Ma'am?"
Commander Kumo chuckled. "You were already an XO on a destroyer Amelia; you're ready. Besides, I'm a cruiser kind of girl."
"Do you accept command of the U.S.S. Thor, Lieutenant Commander Whitaker?" asked Galloway.
Amelia smiled and said, "Yes sir. I will do my absolute best!"
Galloway said, "That's what I like to hear. Lieutenant Commander Amelia Whitaker, stand up so I may pin your new bars upon you." Amelia quickly stood at attention as the Admiral pinned her new rank insignia on her. "Congratulations Commander Whitaker." said Galloway. "And congratulations on your new command."

While Galloway took Amelia to see the U.S.S. Thor, Naruto went with Jackie Nodaway to inspect the U.S.S. Brunhild. It took about two hours to inspect the ship. The crew and most of the staff came from the U.S.S. Littorio so they weren't green, but they also weren't up to par with a destroyer, let alone a fast destroyer.
When Naruto went to engineering, he asked to see their warp configuration and nearly cringed when he saw it. Then he said, "I believe we've located the root of the problem."
"What problem sir?" asked Chief Engineer Gupta.
The blonde replied, "The reason this ship can only do warp 9.9 at maximum warp."
"With all due respect sir, the warp engine just received an overhaul. It's running perfectly." said the Chief.
"The Wolverine can cruise at warp 10.9." said Naruto. "This destroyer should be able to do the same."
Jackie looked goggle eyed. "Are you serious Captain Naruto?"
Naruto nodded. "This warp configuration is so wrong that it's a miracle the Brunhild can do warp 9.9. The Thor is listed at 10.1. It will take at least ten days to get these warp configurations redone."
After Naruto left Chief Gupta said, "She ain't going one bit faster without help from the god of speed!"
"Eh, heh heh…" laughed Commander Nodaway weakly.

Stardate 2282.064, Near Starbase 20, NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild
Nine days later the U.S.S. Brunhild was cruising at warp 10.7 and had a completely redone warp configuration. Chief Engineer Gupta remarked, "So Captain Naruto is the god of speed. Who would've guessed?"
Commander Nodaway had been working the crew to the bone to learn their fast destroyer through constant drills and simulations. "Damn it! That's all wrong. Do it again!" screeched Jackie.

NCC-554 U.S.S. Thor
In the meantime, Commander Amelia Whitaker was both blessed and cursed with the U.S.S. Thor. The officers and crew had been transferred from a damaged destroyer and already were adapting rapidly to the fast destroyer. Unfortunately, they had a faulty intercooler on their warp engine and could only cruise at warp 10.5 even after Naruto fixed the warp configuration. The replacement intercooler was supposed to arrive within the week but still it was a waste of valuable time…

NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Naruto was looking at the forward bulkhead of the shuttle bay and saw the flight deck crews had been industriously painting all the U.S.S. Wolverine's 'kills' starting on her first war cruise against the Klingon Empire. It was an old blue water navy tradition that had been revived by the 3rd and 4th Fleets to boost morale. Naruto decided if the crew was going to do it that they should add the Cai Behemoth and a Tholian Cruiser silhouette to the "kill board" from before the war. After all, it was the logical thing to do.
The Wolverine's Captain had estimated it would take six months to get the crews, ships, and squadron ready for battle and he was given three by Starfleet Command. "You have 90 days Captain. As of Stardate 2282.145, Fast Squadron One*③ will head out into Klingon Imperial Territory and raise hell!" thundered Fleet Admiral Nogura as he finished his commands.
"Any other orders sir?" asked Captain Naruto flatly.
Nogura gave a mean smile. "No Captain Naruto. Raising hell is what you and the Think Tank do best, wouldn't you agree? Starfleet Command out."
"U.S.S. Wolverine out." said Naruto. 'Jackass.' he thought. Then he heard his mates mentally laughing at his little slipup…

Stardate 2282.145, Starbase 20, Berth 10, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
After 90 days of living hell for the ships and crews of Fast Squadron One, the group was ready. They had packed six months of training into a mere three. On Stardate 2282.145, the Wolverine sent out the light signal communication to the Thor and Brunhild, [Silent running. Formation line ahead. Follow us out.]
As the three fast warships glided out of Starbase 20's dock in silence, they crossed the bow of Admiral Galloway's flagship, the dreadnought NCC-2113 U.S.S. Alliance. There were no communications from the fast warships to anyone, but the Alliance light signaled the squadron, [Godspeed.]
No one at Starbase 20 had any idea where the fast squadron was headed as they warped out of sensor range...

Stardate 2282.155, Klingon Imperial Territory, NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild
"Over the past week and a half, we've sneaked northwest through Kzinti territory and then swung back south into Klingon territory. We've taken out four small convoys and a lone frigate. When is the real action going to happen?" asked Lieutenant Commander Richard Donaldson, Executive Officer of the Brunhild.
Commander Nodaway agreed that they hadn't done much other than pounce on unsuspecting enemy freighters. The Klingon frigate they destroyed had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time when the U.S.S. Wolverine and her consorts showed up. It had really been one sided and the Klingons never knew what hit them. She pivoted in her chair to face her Exec and said, "Donaldson. I know this hasn't been a glorious fleet battle but-"
"Incoming transmission from the U.S.S. Wolverine Commander Nodaway. It's Captain Naruto." said her communications officer.
Jackie said, "On screen."
There U.S.S. Brunhild's Commander saw Naruto on a split screen with Commander Whitaker of the U.S.S. Thor. The blonde Vulcan said, "We've just cracked the latest Klingon cipher and it looks like the Klingon Northeast Fleet is on the move to attack and attempt to capture Starbase 20."
Nodaway said, "We have to warn the 4th Fleet!"
Naruto shook his head. "Admiral Galloway can handle it. If we transmit even an encrypted long-range transmission, the enemy will find us."
Commander Whitaker looked concerned. "What can we do then, Captain Naruto?"
The blonde Vulcan's eyes crackled with chakra. "We destroy their support fleet anchored in the Castilla A System in orbit of the gas giant Castilla VI. Our decryption says they have amassed their troop transport freighters plus two D6G Heavy Commando Cruisers, the I.K.V. Orphanmaker and I.K.V. Sorrowmaker there. We are going to go to Castilla A and cut a swath through the Klingon flank."
Jackie felt the adrenaline rising in her blood, "So how far away is this Castilla A System…?"

Stardate 2282.156, Klingon Imperial Territory, Castilla A System, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
"I can't believe it!" said Commander Kumo. "Twenty-one troop freighters and two heavy commando cruisers are sitting there with their warp engines cold."
Captain Naruto nodded. "They logically have nothing to fear. The entire Klingon Northeast Fleet is between them and the Federation. There is no reason that Federation ships should be out here."
"…And with their warp engines shut down to save fuel while anchored they are sitting ducks." added Samui.
"I advise we use our Type IV Shipkillers*④ sir." said Shizuka. "With their shields down, we should be able to cripple the two D6 hulls in one pass."
"Make it so Shizuka." said Naruto. "M'rella, relay to the Thor and Brunhild that the D6G Orphanmaker is our first target and to use Type IV drones against it. Our second target is the D6G Sorrowmaker which we will concentrate our photon torpedoes on. Phasers are to be fired at will after the alpha strike.
The Klingon Northeast Support Fleet noticed the three fast warships just as they cleared Castilla VI's rings. That was mere seconds before the I.K.V. Orphanmaker exploded in a ball of fire as four heavy drones impacted her. The I.K.V. Sorrowmaker met her end a minute later as six fully overloaded photon torpedoes completely gutted her and four phasers from the Wolverine finished the commando ship off.
Several freighters were wrecked by their close proximity to the two exploding D6G's and with cold warp engines could only attempt to crawl away on impulse power while they desperately tried to ignite their inactive warp cores. In the end, it was all for naught. Like angels of death, The Wolverine, Thor and Brunhild slaughtered their hapless prey…

NCC-555 U.S.S. Brunhild
"Yes! That was a flawless victory!" cheered Jackie Nodaway after the battle was over. "This is what I'm talking about Donaldson!"
Richard Donaldson smiled. "I guess I misjudged Captain Naruto's tactics. "How do you think the Klingons will react?"
Commander Nodaway pondered. "The Klingons rely heavily on troops, and it will be only a matter of days before they discover their support fleet has been destroyed. My gut reaction is the Northeast Fleet will have to withdraw regardless of how much damage they do because they won't have the troops to capture or occupy anything."
"Do you think we should stay here to ambush any Klingons that come looking for the troopships?" asked Donaldson.
Jackie shook her head 'no.' "Captain Naruto says we are headed deeper into Klingon Territory so that is where we will go."

Stardate 2282.160, Klingon Imperial Territory, Klingon Northeast Fleet
Klingon Admiral Krell was aboard his flagship, the C8 Dreadnought I.K.V. Terror. He really, really didn't want to believe the report he was reading. Captain Maang of the I.K.V. Rogueslayer reported:
Admiral Krell-
The Northeast Support Fleet has been destroyed to the last man. Our investigation of the Castille A System following the loss of contact with the D6G I.K.V. Orphanmaker has revealed no survivors. Almost all the debris we have found are caught in a decaying orbit of the gas giant Castille VI. We are searching for escape pods or log buoys, but evidence has it they fell into the planet's gravity well and were lost…
