I was all shaken up when I got home.
"Oh, Mary Anne, you just missed about what happened," said Dawn.
"I just saw it, too," I said.
"I didn't think you knew," said Dawn.
"That's enough now, Dawn," said Dad as he went over to me. "I got some tea leftover if you want any."
"Can I heat it up a bit?" I asked.
"Sure. I'll meet you in there," said Dad as I left for the kitchen.
I was glad he was saying that because he knew I didn't want to stay there.
"Am I missing something here?" asked Dawn.
"She probably didn't want to hear any more of the breaking news," said Carlos.
"I noticed that right away. I'll go see her," said Dad as he left there.
I was thanking God for keeping me safe. I'm also praying for the young couple killed by the reckless drivers. I also realized Amelia was killed that way- a drunk driver ran through a stop sign and crashed into the family car killing her on impact and injured her family. I realized I saved April's life.
I was at the table drinking some tea when he came to see me.
"I just wanted to see if you're alright," said Dad as he joined me at the table.
"I'm just shocked about this. I was just getting ready to leave to come home when I had a phone call from April's mom to tell me about the breaking news about the car accident," I said.
"I had a feeling that was bothering you," said Dad.
"I just did not want to remain in there to let it affect me even more, so I was glad you came to the rescue," I said.
"I understand," said Dad.
"Her mom was just telling me that she wanted to go out with them, but her mom said no," I said.
"Keeping her safe is a parent's main job," said Dad.
"I know," I said. "I just realized about something: I saved a life. Imagine if I didn't make that phone call in time? That could've been her."
"You got a good point," said Dad.
"I could've been one of those victims," I said while he was taking my hand. "There was something that didn't occur to me until now. That's how Amelia was killed."
"Oh, yeah, I remember that," said Dad.
"That is why I'm so glad I didn't take any chances for that reason," I said.
"I don't worry about you when you make good choices and stood your ground," said Dad.
"I'm starting to get fed up with April," I said.
"I was about to ask you on how you made out with her. Is she still giving you problems?" asked Dad.
"Yes. I still tried talking to her, but she will not listen to me," I said. "I just think she still doesn't seem to care. She also leaves me out."
"I think so, too," said Dad. "This is not like her to be doing that to you."
"I find that she has changed so much while she's with Andy," I said.
"I can see that," said Dad.
"That's why I finally ended up calling her mom," I said.
"What did her mom say when you told her about what was going on?" asked Dad.
"It was a good thing I did because she didn't even know about it," I said.
"I thought she knew," said Dad.
"No. Her mom says she could be covering for Andy like you said, the girls and I didn't think of that," I said. "I just hope calling her mom would make her see that. Otherwise, I don't know what to do anymore."
"If talking to her mom didn't work out and if she gave you any more problems, do what makes you happy," said Dad.
"Should I should wait to see the verdict before making any tough decisions?" I asked.
"You can do it that way," said Dad.
"It would make things easier before I decide either to keep her or end things with her," I said.
"You just need to follow your heart like you did before," said Dad. "I know decisions aren't always easy to make."
"When you told me about friendships, it helped me realize she wouldn't ignore me or leave me out if she was my friend," said Dad.
"You're right about that," said Dad.
