When I got home, I was in the living room when Dad came home and noticed I looked upset.
"Are you going to be ready to leave in a bit?" asked Dad.
"I guess," I said.
"Is everything okay?" asked Dad.
"It was a tough day, that's all," I said.
"I just need to go put my briefcase away and we can go," said Dad. "We can talk on the way to the game."
On the way, Dad said, "Did something happened?"
"April found out I spoke to her mom and she yelled at me," I said.
"Yelled at you? What is going on with her?" asked Dad.
"She told me to stay out of it, but I said no. I wasn't going to stand there and let her get hurt," I said.
"I agree with you," said Dad.
"I ignored her. I'm not sorry for what I did," I said. "I was looking forward to go to Carlos' game, but April ruined it for me. I almost didn't feel like going, but I didn't want to let him down."
"I can understand that," said Dad.
At the game, I was in line helping Dawn getting snacks. I froze when I saw April. Then, I realized her sister does cheerleading at her high school. I told Dawn I was going back to join the rest while I walked away. I was no interested in seeing April right now. I came over and stayed with Dad. I was just trying to hide things to enjoy my night. They won by 10 points after it ended. Then, I spotted April's mom.
"Do you think I should go talk to her mom to tell her about what she did to me?" I asked.
"I would," said Dad. "You can meet me outside."
Dad went to meet up with the others while I took off.
"My coach is taking us out for pizza," said Carlos.
"That's fine," said Sharon.
"Is everything alright? I noticed Mary Anne wasn't cheerful tonight," said Carlos.
"I noticed that, too," said Dad. "April gave her a hard time."
"I knew that's the reason why Mary Anne walked away. She spotted April in line," said Dawn.
"Mary Anne just spotted her mom and asked if she can go talk to her," said Dad.
"Good," said Dawn. "She was right to tell April's mom about what was going on."
"The way things have been going, I'm start to think about pulling her out of that school," said Dad.
"I would," said Carlos.
"She'll probably agree with you," said Dawn.
"She have been unhappy lately between April and the other guys," said Dad.
"I better go. The coach is waiting for us for the bus," said Carlos.
"We're planning to go out to eat on out way home," said Dawn.
"I'll meet you guys wherever you're going to be," said Dad.
"We can go eat at the diner," said Sharon.
"Okay," said Dad.
"And, speaking of the guys, I noticed she haven't been talking about them," said Dawn.
"I noticed that," said Dad.
I went over to April's mom who was waiting in the lobby for her daughters.
"Hi," said April's mom.
"Can we talk?" I asked.
"Sure," said April's mom. "Did she apologize to you for giving you a hard time?"
"No. She yelled at me," I said. "That's why I came to you. I did nothing wrong."
"Of course not," said April's mom.
"I did not think she would be here. I came to support my brother. I think it would be better off if we take a break from each other," I said.
"I don't blame you," said April's mom.
"I don't want to make a scene in public," I said. "I was going to call you earlier, but I didn't want to be miserable."
"Understandable," said April's mom.
"It's a good thing I spotted you," I said.
"I'm glad you came to me, Mary Anne," said April's mom.
I left while April appeared, her mom looked at her very firmly.
"What?" asked April.
"We need to have a talk on the way to dinner," said April's mom.
On their way, she said, "Mary Anne and I had just a long talk about what you did to her. You had no right to be yelling at her. Didn't I tell you to apologize to her?"
"But...," said April.
"No buts. She was trying to protect you from being hurt. You're grounded for a month when we get home after dinner," said April's mom.
I was able to forget about it for a bit while we were having dinner.
Later, back at home, I decided to go change into my nightgown.
"I wonder how Mary Anne made out with April's mom," said Dawn.
"I was just getting ready to ask her," said Dad. "I didn't want to ask her while we were having dinner. I noticed she wanted to forget about the subject for a bit."
In my room, I had finished getting into my nightgown when Dad knocked on the door and came in.
"How are you making out tonight?" asked Dad.
"This may sound silly, but I'm just glad to be home," I said.
"No. April was lucky I wasn't near there because I would've let her have it for doing that to you," said Dad. "I also could've forbid her for having any contact with you."
"I am glad I went to her mom," I said.
"I was getting ready to ask you that when we got home," said Dad.
"Her mom asked me if she had apologized and I said no," I said. "My mind is already made up. I told her mom I'm going to tell her I think it would be best if we take a break and she didn't blame for it."
"Neither do I," said Dad.
"I'm glad we came up with the plan ahead of time," I said.
"I'm start to think if I should pull you out of that school. Will you okay with it if I did that?" asked Dad.
"I haven't thought about that," I said.
"I'm just worried about you being stressed," said Dad.
"I pulled my grade when I redid the test. I just wanted to keep it that way so I can get into Fashion. I didn't want to be on the waiting list," I said.
"I understand what you're saying," said Dad. "You can always wait until the holidays before you make any decisions. I figured I'd talk to you before I did anything."
"I know," I said. "I might talk to Mr. Gomez first and take it from there."
"Okay. You can do it that way," said Dad.
