This chapter's events take place approximately one year before the canon movie times (I.E., it takes place in 2284 rather than 2285). David Marcus was talking to his younger friend Siegfried M'Fau. "I don't get it Siegfried. I mean, you're a kid but you've already invented the Isolinear Chip." David waggled his eyebrows suggestively. "-Not to mention you are working with the very hot Doctor Calico."
"I have a girlfriend." stated the blonde hybrid. "Doctor Sara Calico is as much my handler as my coworker. The staff in the Isolinear Computer Program don't like taking orders from someone younger than them."
"What I was getting at is you are already up for the Zee-Magnees Prize." said Marcus. "You are pretty much set for life. Why are you studying Astrophysics and Quantum Physics as well?"
Ziggy looked at his slightly older friend and said, "I want to learn, surely you understand that."
"I'm going to achieve something great too someday." said David with conviction.
"Just make sure your desire doesn't cloud your judgement." said the hybrid.
Marcus smiled. "Sometimes you sound more like an old man than a kid."
'I just miss S'Harien.' thought Siegfried sadly.

Chapter 76
Stardate 2283.359, Sol System, Planet Mars Orbit, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, FRD-2, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
"Personal Log, Stardate 2283.359, Fleet Captain Naruto M'Fau reporting. The reconstruction of the Wolverine is ahead of schedule and our estimates show the ship is 88.71% complete. New Years is coming up and morale is very high. I've given the crew five days off for leave starting on Stardate 2283.362 given how far we are ahead of schedule. Today we have a very special guest aboard. My son Siegfried has come with Captain Vach M'Fau to inspect our computer system's installation. With him is Doctor Sara Calico. She is his Associate in Directing the Isolinear Chip Program."
"I have high hopes that we will meet his expectations as my son has been noted to be a perfectionist in the extreme. Siegfried is three months away from receiving his first Doctorate and Samui and I could not be prouder of him. He is to receive the Zee-Magnees Prize on January 1st so my wives and I as well as my extended family plan to be there. It should be a momentous occasion."

Captain Vach M'Fau was inspecting the exterior of the new and improved U.S.S. Wolverine and had Siegfried M'Fau and Doctor Calico with her on the shuttle. For Ziggy it was his first time seeing his Father's famous ship up close and personal. Though the young hybrid kept a calm exterior he was very excited inside, and Vach knew it. Giving her nephew a tiny smile, she said, "This would not have been possible without your work Siegfried M'Fau."
Sara Calico hadn't ever seen a warship before and the dazzled by the fast cruiser's sleek lines. "This is incredible Siegfried! It's so massive. To think your Father designed it and you created the computer system. Genius truly runs in your family."
After touring the exterior extensively, Vach effortlessly guided the small craft into the ship's shuttle bay where they disembarked. They were greeted by Naruto himself who said, "Captain Vach M'Fau, Siegfried M'Fau, Doctor Sara Calico, welcome aboard the United Federation Starship U.S.S. Wolverine. I hope your inspection goes smoothly. I will be showing you around personally today."
As the small group went forward into the secondary hull, Sara Calico saw the bulkhead where all the ship's 'kills' were emblemized. The doctor asked, "What are all these ship silhouettes and foreign insignia for?"
Vach explained, "Those symbols represent enemy vessels destroyed and the types of vessels. It is common to mark such things on warships. As you can see, the U.S.S. Wolverine has been a very successful ship-of-war."
As the Betazoid looked at row after row of emblems she said, "I see that. It is a shame we have to destroy one another."
Naruto nodded. "Unfortunately, it is a necessary evil during wartime. Come, let me show you the main engineering deck."
Siegfried had a million technical questions showing just how much he knew about starships. Sara was more interested in highlights such as the ship's botanical gardens, swimming pool and recreation deck. Soon enough they met Lieutenant Daniel Simmons and several other members of the sciences and engineering staff that dealt with computers.
The younger blonde hybrid was almost immediately immersed in his work of inspecting the ship's Mk I Isolinear computer core and subsystems. Simmons and Calico assisted him as Siegfried fine-tuned his creation to perfection. Finally, Naruto's son said, "Let's light it up!" as he brought the computer online once again.
Sara looked bug-eyed at Ziggy's enthusiasm, but Naruto knew he was just quoting his Godmother Rafi. The Fleet Captain wanted to laugh at the Betazoid's confusion but kept himself under control. Simmons just smiled and shook his head.
The tour and computer work took a total of eleven hours including lunch and dinner in the officer's mess. Afterwards, Doctor Calico was exhausted but the three Vulcan's were still going strong. Siegfried also visited Samui and his other Mothers who were all happy to see he was doing so well. Overall, the younger blonde hybrid found the whole trip to be exhilarating.
Before he left, Alison handed Siegfried a chip with the Tkon history and language on it. The redhead said, "This is part of your heritage. Look it over when you have time."
Samui hugged her son and said, "We will all be there for the Zee-Magnees Prize Ceremony. I'm so proud of you."
Siegfried blushed slightly and said, "Thank you Mum."

Stardate 2284.001, Sol System, Planet Earth, Geneva, Switzerland
Six days later, the M'Fau family and the Schrodinger's were present at the presentation of the Zee-Magnees Prize. S'Harien was there and was absolutely thrilled for her boyfriend. She was shocked at all the aliens and knew Siegfried was terrified of messing up his acceptance speech. As it turned out he was able to pull it off without a hitch.
'I had no idea my boyfriend was so gifted at oration.' thought the biker girl. 'I'm so proud of you Ziggy.' S'Harien was wearing formal black Vulcan robes representing the Sofek Clan. She sat with the Crimson wearing M'Fau's.
…After the ceremony Siegfried was quietly celebrating with his family. S'Harien was sitting on his left and Naruto was sitting on his right as he was greeted and congratulated by many foreign dignitaries and scientists from all over the United Federation of Planets.
Samui said to S'Harien, "You know your parents would have been welcome to come."
The tall Vulcan girl replied, "I haven't spoken to my parents in years. I doubt they would have answered my call."
Samui's ice blue eyes widened. "I'm sorry."
S'Harien half shrugged. "I don't miss them, and they don't approve of me. It is logical to avoid each other."
Siegfried realized his girlfriend was a little uncomfortable and said to Samui, "I don't think I've seen this many dignitaries in my life."
Samui knew he was deliberately changing the subject for S'Harien's sake and smiled. "Well, I'm sure you'll meet a lot more of them."

Flashback…
After meeting the M'Fau's for the first time, S'Harien said, "I really like your folks Ziggy. They are genuine and it's obvious how much they love you."
Siegfried gave a tiny smile and said, 'Perhaps I can meet your parents sometime soon. Do they live in Raal?"
"They did last time I saw them." answered the tall Vulcan beauty in a faraway voice.
He raised an eyebrow the way his Father always did and thought, 'That was an odd statement.' "When did you see them last?"
S'Harien answered, "It was before I went to Raal Technical School to work on bikes. They didn't approve of me, so I left. I was fourteen."
His eyes widened. "But why wouldn't they approve of you?"
"Mom's a Priestess in Raal and Dad's the Public Treasurer in Raal." she explained dully. "They wanted me to go to Mount Selaya and train to be a Priestess like all the females in the family. I chose my own path instead..."
End Flashback…

After the ceremony and gala, Siegfried was sitting with his girlfriend at the hotel his family was staying at. As she slept leaning on his shoulder, he saw her face in Earth's moonlight and said, "You are beautiful S'Harien. I will always be proud of you."
She subconsciously nuzzled him and pulled him a little closer…

Stardate 2284.045, Sol System, Planet Mars Orbit, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, FRD-2, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Six weeks had passed and work on the Wolverine was continuing at a furious pace. The ship's stores were being filled for the vessel's shakedown cruise which was scheduled to begin in two weeks. Commander Nodaway came onto the bridge looking for Naruto who had summoned her. He was in his ready room. She knocked on the blonde's door only to hear him say, "Enter."
Naruto was at his desk talking to Shizuka who looked concerned. He turned to his First Officer and said, "Jackie, we're casting off earlier than planned. We've got twelve hours until launch. There will be a staff meeting in two hours."
"What's going on Captain Naruto?" asked the brunette First Officer.
The Fleet Captain replied, "A search and rescue mission has been launched for a missing ship; NCC-1864 U.S.S. Reliant*① under Captain Clark Terrell. She's a Kearsarge class vessel like your previous command the U.S.S. Littorio.

U.S.S. Wolverine, Staff Meeting Room
Naruto came into the staff room with a purpose in his step as everyone stood at attention. "As you were." said the blonde as everyone was seated. "For those of you that don't already know, we've been assigned to look for a missing Starfleet vessel." The Fleet Captain brought up a hologram of the Reliant and said, "This is the U.S.S. Reliant. Her last log entries recorded were in the Ceti Alpha System as of Stardate 2284.030."
"That was over two weeks ago!" exclaimed Rafi. "They should have put an alert out after twelve hours."
Shizuka said, "That's incredibly delayed. They must be widening the search and are pulling in outside vessels."
The blonde hybrid nodded and said, "The Reliant has also been on special duties so it may be classified. According to our records, last year in 2283, the U.S.S. Reliant was detached from active combat service and assigned to assist Dr. Carol Marcus and her Project Genesis team find a suitable uninhabited planet for testing."
"Project Genesis?" asked Doctor Shelly Wilson.
"It sounds like some kind of weapon project if they are looking for an uninhabited planet." said Alison.
Samui stated, "Whatever Project Genesis is, I know there is at least one planet with life on it in the Ceti Alpha system."
"Oh?" asked Jackie Nodaway. "I had no idea."
The blonde bombshell nodded. "The Augment tyrant Khan Noonien Singh himself was imprisoned there in the DY-100 sleeper ship S.S. Botany Bay in 2267 by Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise. I read all about it at the Academy. They didn't want me there because I'm an Augment and thought I would want to take over or something."
"Well, we all know better than that now Samui." said Maya Ayasugi as she brought up a hologram of the Ceti Alpha System. "Odds are the U.S.S. Reliant was headed towards Ceti Alpha VI. It was charted as a barren, lifeless rock decades ago."
"Then we'll start our search at Ceti Alpha VI" said Naruto. "We launch in nine hours at 06:00."

Stardate 2284.046, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, FRD-2, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Naruto was settled in his Command Chair and said, "Thrusters at station keeping Rafi."
"Thrusters at station keeping sir." replied Rafi with a smile.
Alison stated, "All decks report in green."
"FRD-2 reports all tractor links and gravity pylons are clear. We are now free floating." purred M'rella.
Shizuka said, "All decks report they are secured."
Naruto nodded. "Thrusters ahead at one half Rafi. Samui, plot a course for the Ceti Alpha System. We're going to have to test things on the fly…again."
Samui grinned over at Rafi. "Course laid in sir."
Naruto signaled engineering. "Are we ready for warp Chief Christianson?"
"Aye sir!" answered Freyja enthusiastically. "All systems are green."
Rafi said, "We've cleared dock."
The Fleet Captain said, "Ahead warp factor one, engage."
The Bussard scoops lit up blue and the U'S.S. Wolverine was once again moving under her own power after several months of slumber…

The crew ran every kind of test they could on the way to the Ceti Alpha System. Weapons, engines, shields, sensors, etc. were all checked and calibrated within the limitations of not having any sort of outside help to monitor them. As these tests went on, they slowly drew towards their destination, the Ceti Alpa System and more specifically, Ceti Alpha VI…

Stardate 2284.056, Ceti Alpha System, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine, Staff Meeting Room
"What do you mean there is NO Ceti Alpha VI?!*②" Commander Nodaway nearly screeched.
Alison Fairbanks replied in a flat tone "There is an expansive asteroid belt where Ceti Alpha VI should be, Ceti Alpha IV and V are still there but their orbits are destabilized. Samui and I theorize that something caused Ceti Alpha VI to explode."
"What could cause a planet to explode?" asked Rafi.
Doctor Wilson frowned and asked, "What about this Project Genesis?"
"Project Genesis wasn't funded until the 2280's from what little I've been able to learn." replied Naruto.
"Your point being…?" asked Shelly.
The blonde hybrid answered, "The asteroid belt is spread out enough that it couldn't have been that recent."
Samui brought up the charts of the system when it was last visited in 2267 and the readings they were compiling. Then she projected a hologram of the system. "As a Cosmologist, I'd estimate Ceti Alpha VI exploded for unknown reasons as early as 2267 and as late as 2269. We need to see if the Botany Bay prison colony on Ceti Alpha V survived regardless."
Rafi looked at the hologram and said, "Now that I look at it closer, without scanning the whole system like we have, Ceti Alpha V could be mistaken for Ceti Alpha VI given its orbit is now more elliptical than circular."
Captain Naruto said. "Let's lay in a course for Ceti Alpha V. If there is a settlement there and survivors we will find it."

Ceti Alpha V Orbit, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Alison Fairbanks, Shar and Maya Ayasugi were soon mapping the surface of Ceti Alpha V where the wreckage of the S.S. Botony Bay landed over a decade ago and found close to 200 people marooned there. They were shocked to intercept hand communicator transmissions as well.
M'rella immediately tuned in and said, "Captain Naruto, I'm picking up transmissions from personnel that match the crew names of the U.S.S. Reliant! Shall I hail them?
"Make contact immediately M'rella." said the hybrid, "Try to reach the ranking officer and pipe hem through."
The Caitian beauty said, "This is the U.S.S. Wolverine hailing the crew of the U.S.S. Reliant. If you are a ranking officer, please respond."
"This is Chief Medical Officer Bianca Wilder*③ to the U.S.S. Wolverine. I have 187 people down here in need of medical assistance! Kahn took our ship and left us here to die! Can you help us Wolverine?!"
Naruto said, "This is Fleet Captain Naruto M'Fau, Doctor Wilder. We're patching you through to our own Chief Medical Officer. We are going to get you and your people out of there."
…
The next 48 hours were a whirlwind for the surviving crew of the Reliant as well as the Wolverine. All 187 crewmembers of the light cruiser were rescued and the terror of the situation regarding Khan Noonien Singh was brought to light. The horrors of the parasitic Ceti eels*④ were brought to light as well…
…
"Ship's Log, Stardate 2284.058. Fleet Captain Naruto M'Fau reporting. The last of the Ceti eels have been removed from infected members of the crew of the U.S.S. Reliant. All of them are recovering and have reported that Khan Noonien Singh is in control of their ship Reliant and is loose in the quadrant. We know that Khan has captured Captain Clark Terrell, the First Officer Commander Pavel Chekov and the ship's engineering crew which are all under the influence of Ceti eels."
"I have already reported to Starfleet Command that NCC-1864 U.S.S. Reliant is to be considered an enemy vessel should she be encountered. Apparently, Khan is obsessed with revenge against Admiral James T. Kirk due to the death of his wife which he blames on the Admiral. The question is whether Khan will seek to hunt Kirk down or escape to parts unknown. I have found out that the Reliant was attached to duties to the Federation Science Station Regula I*⑤ from the Reliant's crew. We have tried to hail the station repeatedly to no avail. As Project Genesis is there the Wolverine is going to Regula I to safeguard its secrets…"

Stardate 2284.060 Mutara Sector, Class D Planetoid Regula Orbit, U.S.S. Wolverine
Two days later, Captain Naruto was frowning as he spoke to Jackie Nodaway who was aboard the Regula I Station. She was on the ship's main screen. "All we can determine is Khan came here, violently tortured the staff to death and left presumably with Dr. Caral Marcus and Doctor David Marcus as their bodies aren't accounted for. The computers have been wiped clean so there is no information on Project Genesis. If it was here Khan took it."
The blonde sighed. "We are still two steps behind without knowing what Project Genesis even is. You've done all you can Jackie. You and the Away Team return to the ship. There is nothing more to be done over there."
"Understood sir." said the Commander. "Nodaway out."
"Wolverine out." replied Naruto.
…
Ten minutes later, Doctor Fairbanks looked up from her sensor station and said, "Put the viewscreen 84 degrees to port, maximum magnification." Everyone saw what Alison did. A Constitution class cruiser limping towards the Mutara Nebula and about 150,000 Kilometers behind her…was the Reliant!
Naruto snapped into action. He got on the comm and asked, "Transporter Room, is the Away Team Aboard?"
"Aye sir!" answered Ensign Heidi Gaul.
The blonde said to M'rella, "Transmit this to the U.S.S. Reliant, audio only. Khan, we a coming for you!"
The Reliant suddenly veered off to starboard and away from the heavy cruiser they were pursuing.
Rafi grinned and said, "It appears Khan got the message Captain Naruto."
"Incoming hail from the U.S.S. Enterprise Captain." said M'rella. "It's Admiral Kirk."
"Put him through M'rella." replied Naruto as Commander Nodaway, Shizuka, and Samui returned from their Away Team duties and assumed their regular posts.
"You are a sight for sore eyes Fleet Captain Naruto." said Admiral Kirk. "The Enterprise is damaged and unable to pursue the Reliant. Khan has the Genesis Device. We cannot let him escape with it. Capture or destroy the U.S.S. Reliant at all costs!"
Naruto replied, "Understood sir. The Wolverine will not let them escape."
…
U.S.S. Reliant, Bridge
"Khan, we are coming for you!" was the only message that had come from the mysterious starship Wolverine which was bearing down on the Reliant at unbelievable speeds.
"That ship, what is it?" asked Khan. "Whoever it is knows who we are and are chasing us with reckless abandon."
Khan's Lieutenant, Joachim*⑥ looked up from his scanners and said, "It's called a Fast Cruiser. Apparently, it sacrifices firepower for speed."
"Then we have more firepower than them?" asked the tyrant.
"It would appear so." said Joachim. "We have twice the torpedoes they do. A lot of data seems to be blacked out."
"Let them come then." said Khan. "The are no match for the superior intellect. After we deal with this Wolverine, we can hunt down Kirk at our leisure."

U.S.S. Wolverine
Naruto quietly pondered the possibilities of fighting Khan. He wanted to rescue the engineering crew of the Reliant if possible and that would require boarding party combat. As far as the blonde was concerned, the Project Genesis Device was expendable.
"Khan's some kind of genius." said Commander Nodaway. "We can't afford to take him lightly."
The blonde said, "We need to capture the U.S.S. Reliant back if possible. Her engineering crew is innocent."
"What about the Genesis Device?" asked Jackie.
"We don't even know what it is." replied Naruto. "Project Genesis is irrelevant to me. We're going to rescue the Reliant's remaining crew and capture or kill Khan and his followers. We'll start by softening up their shields and destroying their torpedo launchers. After that Major Scarlett Terrill and her Marines can beam in."
"I'm going too." said Samui. "I owe Khan a world of hurt for making my early life hell."
'You don't have anything to prove.' said Naruto mentally.
Samui frowned. 'Let me do this for my own sake then.'
Naruto closed his eyes for a moment and then said, "Suit up for boarding party combat Lieutenant Commander Schrodinger."
The blonde bombshell smiled. "Thank you, sir!" She quickly left the bridge and Jackie Nodaway took over the navigation station.
Shizuka said, "Phasers and proximity photons are ready. Shall I give them a wakeup call?"
The Fleet Captain's eyes crackled with chakra. "Fire proximity photons at will, Shizuka."
…
U.S.S. Reliant
"They are firing at us." said Joachim.
Khan frowned. "At this range?!" Two photon torpedoes slammed into their front shield causing the Reliant to shake.
"Our front shield is 15% down sir." said Joachim.
"Close the range so we can hit them with our own torpedoes!" commanded Khan.

U.S.S. Wolverine
"The U.S.S. Reliant is increasing speed." said Alison. "It would appear that Khan is unaware of the proximity mode of photon torpedoes."
"Keep punishing them Shizuka." said Naruto.
Shizuka smiled ferally. "Understood sir."
Four salvos later, the Reliant finally reached standard torpedo range and returned fire. The Wolverine shook and Shizuka said, "Three of their four torpedoes missed at maximum standard range. Damage negligible. It was soaked up by our shield reinforcement."
"Ready overloaded torpedoes." said Naruto. "Let's give them a taste of what we really can do."
…
U.S.S. Reliant
"Our front shield is down to 40%!" said the shaken Joachim. "They are picking us apart! We need to break off my Lord."
Khan said, "Steady as she goes; ready all four photons to fire."
Joachim sighed. "As you command my Lord. Two more torpedoes are incoming."
Two fully overloaded photon torpedoes hit the Reliant's heavily weakened front shield with a tremendous shock. The light cruiser staggered as the remains of its number one shield collapsed and the hull was scorched by the unspent energy of the second torpedo. Khan and his followers were thrown to the floor from the concussive impact.
Joachim tried to stumble back to his position to return fire when eight phasers from the fast cruiser raked the exposed hull of the Reliant and destroyed her photon torpedo launchers as well as two of her forward phasers. Massive explosions caused the light cruiser to shudder as it plowed forward.

U.S.S. Wolverine
"They are returning fire sir with their remaining phasers." said Jackie.
Alison reported, "Forward shields are down 17%"
"Engage tractor beams." said Naruto. "Drop number one shield! Boarders away!"
"Tractors locked!" said Jackie.
Shizuka said, "Our first group of boarders are away!"
"Rafi, pivot thirty degrees to starboard so our port shiels are facing them." ordered Naruto.
…
U.S.S. Reliant
"We have boarders in engineering!" came a female voice of one of Khan's followers over the comm. "There are too many of them! We need he-" was the last thing they heard before engineering was cut off.
The Reliant was hit with another phaser salvo from the Wolverine and the light cruiser lurched from multiple explosions throughout the hull.
…Joachim was in a daze when the second group of boarders beamed directly onto the bridge. He saw his fellow Augments Astrid Ericsson and Cesare*⑦ were rolling to their feet. Astrid was cut down with a phaser before she could react, and Cesare was backhanded by a beautiful blonde woman hard enough that his head was cracked open when he smashed into a bulkhead.
Khan's Lieutenant saw an opening and tried to stop the blonde wrecking machine, but she hit him so hard in the sternum that he coughed up blood. Joachim wheezed out, "You're a-an Augment!"
Samui grabbed Joachim by the throat and effortlessly lifted him up as he choked. The Augment man was seeing spots and he heard her growl, "Correction, I am a HUMAN!" before he passed out and she dropped him to the floor.
Major Scarlett Terrill smiled and said, "Cool it, Commander Schrodinger; leave some for the rest of us."
Samui replied sheepishly, "Sorry. These people are real scum."
"I agree." said Scarlett. "Just don't lose your head under fire."
That was when they received a transmission from M'rella, "Major Terrill, we're picking up unknown waves from the Auxiliary Control room of the Reliant. We believe it may have something to do with the Genesis Device on board."
"We're on it M'rella." replied Terrill. "Head to Auxiliary Control; move out people!"

U.S.S. Wolverine, Bridge
Doctor Alison Fairbanks said, "The waves we're picking up are building up to a detonation point. It's going to go critical within minutes. We have to get our people out of there now!"
Naruto nodded and said, "Transporter room, come in."
"Gaul here sir." answered Hiedi.
"Start evacuating our people from the Reliant." ordered the blonde hybrid. "We believe the Genesis Device is building up to detonation."
"Understood, we'll begin evacuation procedures immediately." replied Ensign Gaul.

U.S.S. Reliant, Auxiliary Control
When they got down to Auxiliary Control, Scarlett and Samui found the body of Khan Noonien Singh badly burned and bleeding out. Scarlett checked for life signs with her tricorder and said, "He's dead as can be."
Samui said, "This must be the Genesis Device." Looking at the control panel and the device itself, she said, "The bastard must have activated it and locked it down with his dying breath. We need to get out of here Scarlett."

U.S.S. Wolverine, Bridge
Within ten minutes, the last of the Reliant's surviving crew and the Wolverine's Marines were beamed off the doomed light cruiser that was drifting towards the Mutara Nebula under its own power.
"The last of the Marines and survivors are off of the Reliant Captain Naruto." reported M'rella.

The U.S.S. Wolverine leapt forward at Warp factor ten and left the crippled U.S.S. Reliant in the dust. Mere seconds later, the Genesis Device detonated throwing off a massive shockwave that nearly reached light speed.
The Fleet Captain sighed and thought, 'It's been a long day,'
"I'm recording the effects of the Genesis Device on sensors." said Alison. "As the shockwave is expanding, it is absorbing matter from the Mutara Nebula. It seems to be gathering matter at a central point. It looks like the beginnings of a Solar System!"
"We're receiving a transmission from the U.S.S. Enterprise." said M'rella.
"On main screen." said Naruto.
Admiral James T. Kirk's face appeared on screen, and he said, "The Genesis Device…?"
"Reports are still coming in from my Marines, but it appears that Khan Noonien Singh set it to self-destruct with his dying breath." explained the blonde, "We were able to rescue the crew of the Reliant and take a prisoner but the ship itself was destroyed in the explosion."
Jim smiled. "We've been watching from here. You and your crew did outstandingly well Fleet Captain Naruto. I'm sorry to say the Enterprise is a bit of a mess and still without warp power."
"The U.S.S. Wolverine will be glad to assist in any way we can, Admiral Kirk." said Naruto.

Stardate 2284.065 Mutara Sector, U.S.S. Wolverine
"Ship's Log, Stardate 2284.065. Fleet Captain Naruto M'Fau reporting. The U.S.S. Enterprise is on its way back to Earth at warp speed. The crew of the Reliant transferred over to the Enterprise to help with the much-needed repairs. We also transferred the Augment prisoner Joachim over to Admiral Kirk's custody leaving us with our normal compliment of 450 officers and crew."
"We are on station observing the results of the Genesis Device's detonation. A yellow dwarf star and Class M planet named Genesis are forming from the matter of approximately one half of the Mutara Nebula. We've discovered that Project Genesis is an advanced terraforming program to make uninhabitable worlds into Class M worlds."
"Unfortunately, we've also seen the other side of Project Genesis. It would make a terrifyingly powerful doomsday weapon. If a 'Genesis Torpedo' were to hit a Class M world, all existing life on the planet would be obliterated in favor of the new Genesis matrix. Its creators, Doctors Carol Marcus and David Marcus seem genuinely altruistic and were caught totally off guard by this application of their creation."
"I have little doubt that the creation of a new planet from a nebula will cause a storm of controversy throughout the Federation and beyond…'

Naruto and his staff were carefully observing the formation of the new Planet Genesis with both Doctor Carol Marcus and Doctor David Marcus aboard. As the only survivors of the original Project Genesis Research Team still alive, it seemed appropriate for them to monitor the results of their work. Also, aboard to assist them was Lieutenant (JG) Saavik*⑧ from the U.S.S. Enterprise who was to act as the liaison officer between Project Genesis and Starfleet.
Doctor David Marcus was on the bridge of the U.S.S. Wolverine using sensor station two to observe Planet Genesis as it rapidly cooled into a lush, fertile Class M world. He kept looking over at Naruto until his curiosity got the better of him. David said, "Excuse me Captain Naruto, are you related to Siegfried of the Daystrom Institute? He said both of his parents are Starfleet Officers."
'Must be the birthmarks.' thought Naruto. "Siegfried M'Fau is my son." He motioned over to Samui. "His Mother is Lieutenant Commander Samui Schrodinger." David gawked at the blonde bombshell and the Fleet Captain said, "Siegfried said that you are his friend and lived across the hall from him at the Daystrom Institute."
Doctor Marcus tore his eyes away from Samui's fabulous frame and looked back at Naruto who had an eyebrow raised. "Um, yes. Siegfried is a great kid. He's brilliant too. It amazed me that he won the Zee-Magnees Prize. You must be really proud of him."
"Samui and I are both very proud of Siegfried." stated the Vulcan hybrid. Then he added "Your Father is very proud of you as well."
"You know my Father?" asked David.
Naruto nodded, "Yes, Jim Kirk is a good friend of mine."

So, I watched the movie once again and got enthused. I decided to leave things alone until the battle of the Mutara Nebula. I fudged a bit about my options at that point and decided that I really wanted to save Spock from sacrificing himself. Of course, that throws Star Trek III completely out of whack, but events will still be centered around Planet Genesis in the next chapter.
One additional little note, the battle between the Wolverine and the Reliant may have seemed one sided but remember the Wolverine is an X-ship now and the Reliant was already damaged. Add Khan's lack of experience handling starships and it's a no brainer who would win.
