I gotta say, I really didn't like writing this chapter just because I'm not a fan of the episode. But feelings are always put to the side when it comes to writing chapters, especially this one. Not only that, but its crucial to what I want to have to create the next chapter (which will be a pure original).
Gargoyles belongs to the talented Greg Weisman.
Chelsea belongs to me! I'm just writing this for fun and had a 'what if' question if Brooklyn had a love interest in his timeline before the events of the Massacre.
Enjoy!
Manhattan at night is always cold. The wind howled through the winding buildings to the streets below of hustling people. Like any night, anyone would be hurrying into their warm homes to get away from the bitter cold, but there are others who don't have that luxury. There are those who live there days and nights out on the streets, struggling to survive in the Big Apple.
While a few were huddling close by a burning barrel in an alleyway, one such person was dreading the scene. Maggie Reed, who was wrapped in a thin blanket over her old dress and her wired blonde hair blowing through the wind, gazed over at the other two who were trying to stay warm. She hid herself from them, her instincts telling her to go toward the welcoming warmth, but her physical self-kept her in the cold shadows.
"I'm…I'm not like them." She whispered to herself as she wrapped her blanket close.
"Of course you're not." An unsettling, strange voice called out.
Maggie gasped, her blanket almost falling off her shoulders, then looked behind her. In the shadows, a hunched figure wearing only a dark trench coat and fedora approached her.
"It's just uh," the girl shivered from the intense cold, then looked up at the strange man. "I haven't been in New York long." She turned away. "This is just a temporary setback."
"You don't say," Maggie looked back to the man, who revealed to be an older man, thanks to the cane he was walking around with, under his layers. "Well, as it happens, I need a temporary assistant." He wrapped an arm around the frigid girl. "Easy work, and it pays well. Plus much nicer surroundings than these." He gestured over to the two homeless who were settling nicely by the fire.
Maggie thought of this. Coming to New York, she had her mind set working in Theater, but her luck wasn't on her side, so she winded herself down in the slums. With no help from distant family and struggling to find herself in the world, she really doesn't have any other option. With this job the man suggested, maybe it'll help her get back on her feet.
With her mind set, she turned to the man. "Well, what would I have to do?"
The man only answered through a wiry smile.
Elisa took a breath of fresh air as she stood by a hot dog vendor in the Manhattan private air hanger.
"Hey, you know what the Zen Master said to the hot dog vendor?" she asked the man behind the vendor. As he gave her dog, she answered. "Make me one with everything."
"Like I haven't heard that one before." The man said as if he heard that joke a million times.
Elisa took a bite of her dog, sighed with delight of how tender and juicy the hot dog felt in her mouth. She wiped a piece of mustard away as she turned to the man.
"I'm looking for Derek Maza."
"His sister right?"
She nodded. "Yeah."
The man pointed up. "He said you'd be coming by."
Elisa looked up at the lone glider plane making loop de loops in the sky and made a landing on the runway. The hatched open to reveal Derek Maza. He jumped off the plan as the detective came forward with half of her hotdog eaten.
"New toy?" she asked as she took another bite.
"One of the perks of working for Mr. Xanatos." Her brother answered.
The detective felt her stomach turn at the mention of the Xanatos. She wrapped her hotdog then came forward with her arms crossed.
"Missed you at dinner Sunday."
"I was busy," Derek replied, a small bit in his tone.
Elisa narrowed her eyes. "Xanatos doesn't believe in his employees visiting their families?"
"Oh," Derek threw his arms up. "Here we go again. How many times do I have to tell you?" he turned to her. "Xanatos isn't the reincarnation of Snidely Whiplash, and if he is, I can handle him."
Elisa brought her arms up in surrender. "Hey, hey, whoa. Its your life."
Derek scoffed. "You got that right."
"But I think you're fooling yourself." The detectives' eyes softened, then turned to her younger brother. "Look," she took a hold of her brother's shoulder. "Just promise me you'll call if there's trouble."
Derek looked back at her. He may be annoyed at his older sister's over protectiveness, but she's only doing it because of not only there related, but she really cares for his well-being.
The man sighed, then turned to her. "I promise sis."
That made the detective smile, then made a cross gesture over her chest. "Cross your heart?"
"And hope to die." Derek finished.
The two siblings ended their promise by hugging each other tightly. Proving that their promise is a true one.
The night soon fell over Manhattan, but this one seemed abnormal.
At the night shift at Gen-U-Tech, lab workers were usually at their desks either working on paperwork, in the labs working on long projects, or feeding the lab animals.
In a specific room, several lab workers were working at their own desks. While a few were at conversation, one worker was in the corner working on paperwork.
Cody Matthews typed on his computer as he looked over a written down report of a new recent project the head doctor was working on. He itched his eyes as the long hours of work were getting to him. He went to his coffee mug on his right and took a few sips of the strong liquid. He sighed with content as his gears were starting to turn more controlling, then continued with his work.
"Hey Matthews!"
Cody stopped typing, and spun his chair to the man who yelled out his name. He saw the three other workers looked at him with smirks.
The man with cropped black hair made a gesture with his watch. "It's you turn to feed her."
"I thought I fed her last time." Cody countered as he stayed in his chair.
"Well," the second worker added behind the lead guy. "We're working on a new hypothesis. You can finish your notes later."
Cody narrowed his eyes at his co-workers lack of respect. He sighed as he turned back to his computer to save his work and closed it out. He got out of his chair, then left the room with a huff.
Walking down the hallway with a tray of protein oatmeal and a glass of water, he stopped in front of the door where the head doctors' new experiment was being kept. He knocked on the door, only to hear a slight growl on the other side.
Cody gulped but fiddled in finding his key. "Hey, I brought dinner." His key turned and unlocked the door.
When he entered, he only saw darkness, but he did see a scrunched-up figure in the corner of the room.
"Hope you like oatmeal," Cody called out in the darkness as he closed the door behind him. He came forward holding the tray out. "I feel you need something else, like meat perhaps, but Sevarius recommended it for you."
Before he could say anything else, the figure in the back screeched and jumped forward with agility. Cody gasped, then was pushed down by the creature with a growl. The tray he was holding shattered as food splattered the walls. Cody struggled in the small room, trying to dodge the figure's claws until he pressed the alarm behind him.
Alarms blared throughout the halls, and two guards ran down toward Cody and the creature. The door broke down to reveal the creature as it tackled the two guards with sheer force and ran off. Cody came out of the door with a few scratches on his lab coat as he took few steady breaths.
"Hey, come back!" Cody exclaimed as he ran behind it.
The creature let out another snarl like a jungle cat as it ran toward the exit doors. It threw them open as it ran toward the dark alleyways. Its only instinct telling it to run far away from the building.
As it left, two armed guards came out with their weapons with Cody not far behind. Stopping at the door, he turned to see the same man from the alley stand next to him. The young adult looked down as he saw the man tapping his finger with his cane. He gulped as he felt an ominous aura around the man.
Meanwhile, up in the skies, Broadway Brooklyn and Chelsea had just begun their routine patrol. So far, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, or so they thought.
Chelsea yawned between the two males. "As much as I like a quiet glide, it's boring with nothing going on."
"Yeah, I hear ya." Brooklyn agreed, but something caught his eyes. He pointed down. "Hey look!"
The other two followed the red gargoyles claw as they saw movement going on in an alleyway. It looked to be a silhouette of a gargoyle-like being, but who?
"Is that Demona?" Broadway asked.
Chelsea squinted her eyes. "I can't tell. It's too dark."
Brooklyn narrowed his eyes at the mention of his number one enemy's name. "Let's check it out." He let out with a growl.
The group descended down into the alleyway. When they landed, they found the being backing away from them with fear. Looking closer, it wasn't someone they never seen before.
"What the…" Chelsea murmured in shock.
"That's not Demona." Broadway added with the same reaction.
The figure, which was a cat-like female gargoyle with bat-like wings, brought her claws up in fear. "St-stay away from me!" she stammered.
Instead of doing that, Brooklyn took a step forward. His eyes showing sympathy and compassion.
"Wait, don't be afraid." He assured. "We won't hurt you."
Just then, sirens were heard behind the group. They turned behind them and saw two white trucks with flashing red lights blocking the alleyway. Coming out of the trucks were men and women wearing white clothing and holding high tech weaponry.
"There she is!" one of the men called out.
"But she's not alone." Another man added. He turned to the first man. "What do we do with them?"
"Tranq them all. Let the doc sort them out."
The little army soon opened fired at the gargoyles, which they all ran off and hide. While Broadway and Chelsea ducked behind dumpsters, Brooklyn was trying to confront the other female gargoyle.
"Bad neighborhood." He stated as he took her wrist.
"Let go of me!" she twisted her wrist out of Brooklyn's grip, in the process causing a metal bracelet to clatter on the ground.
Before the hothead could register to it, more shots were fired, making him run for cover. Electricity danced over the dumpster where the female ducked under. The men surrounded her and grabbed ahold of her arms.
"Help me!" she exclaimed.
Brooklyn's eyes widened. "Don't go with them!"
The men dragged the cat gargoyle into the back of one of their vans and plopped her in without a second thought. After they shut the door, they turned with their guns out front and opened fired. Brooklyn ducked behind the same dumpster where Broadway and Chelsea were hiding behind. He turned to them with a determined look.
"We have to save her!" he insisted.
Chelsea twisted her mouth, then narrowed her eyes. Next to her, Broadway only narrowed his eyes.
"If you say so." The potbelly answered.
The three gargoyles grunted as they slowly pushed the dumpster forward, sending it rolling toward the men and hit smacked on the side of the van. In the process, it only made a little dent on the side. The gargoyles jumped to the van to make a few scratches to it.
While they were scratching the side, Chelsea jumped over the dumpster, then made her way to the double doors in the back. She yanked one of them open with a grunt, then looked into the van. She saw the other female gargoyle curled up in the back. A look of terror in her eyes.
"Come on," Chelsea brought her claw toward the other gargoyle. "Let's get you out of here."
"Ge-Get away!" the other gargoyle screamed as she brought her sharp claws out to defend herself.
Chelsea screeched as she felt the other gargoyles claws dig into her left arm. Pain began to spread on her arm like a thousand bees stung her all at once. She clutched her arm close, then turned to the gargoyle with a look of pain. Her mouth dropped as she saw the cat gargoyle squirmed into the back, trying to get as far away from her as possible. Seeing this, Chelsea knew something was a bit off, and felt bad for the other gargoyle.
"Chelsea," Broadway called out. "Let's get out of here!"
Chelsea looked out for a second, then turned back to the frightened gargoyle. Her eyes showed sympathy as she shook her head.
"I'm sorry." Chelsea whispered, then with speed, she jumped on the dumpster and truck, and into the air. Looking over, she saw Broadway carrying Brooklyn who was unconscious in his arms. She flapped next to him as she looked at the unconscious gargoyle.
"What happened to him?"
"He got knocked out." The potbelly answered as they all landed in a dark part of an apartment building.
Brooklyn groaned, then squinted his eyes open. "No…gotta…save her…"
"Easy B," Chelsea laid a claw on the red gargoyles shoulder, then looked down below with narrowed eyes.
The three saw the group of people brought their weapons down and went to the two trucks. One of them closed the door in the back where the gargoyle was and went in the front with the driver. The sound of the ignition was heard, then both vans drove out of the alleyway.
At the Eyrie Building, Xanatos' helicopter landed in the center of the courtyard of the castle. Coming out of the front of the chopper, Derek opened the door to reveal Xanatos himself. Waiting for them in the courtyard, Owen came up to them with a paper in his right hand.
"We have just received some fascinating expense reports from Gen-U-Tech Systems." Owen stated handing the millionaire a folder.
"Yes," the millionaire answered with a crossed face. "Their R and D team is working on something special for me." He took the folder and looked through the first pages.
Owen raised an eyebrow. "Something involving armed mercenaries?"
That made Xanatos stop his reading and looked at his right-hand man. "Not to my knowledge. Perhaps it's time to pay Dr. Sevarius a visit."
Derek took a step forward. "Mercenaries huh? Maybe I'll come along."
Xanatos turned back to him. "I'm sure it won't be necessary Derek."
"It's what you're paying me for." Derek shrugged. "Might as well get your money's worth."
Xanatos smirked. "Might as well." He nodded. His eyes narrowed for a second before they turned back to normal.
In the kitchen area of the clocktower, Chelsea's left arm was brought out for Hudson to look at. The four jagged scratch marks were shown on the inside of her arm, which looked red and painful from the smeared blood that was recently cleaned off. He shook his head as he brought out bandages from the first aid kit.
"You're very lucky lass," Hudson told her as he started wrapping her arm. "If whoever did this to you had dug deeper, the bleeding wouldn't have stopped when you arrived."
Chelsea merely shrugged. "Good thing I have quick reflexes." she smirked.
That made the older gargoyle gave out a chuckle as he kept wrapping. Over in the center of the room, Broadway finished recounting as what happened to the others.
"Soon as they left, we caught the first updraft back." Broadway told them.
Next to him, Brooklyn shook his head. "She was so frightened."
"Yeah," the potbelly turned to him. "Of us."
The hothead slowly got to his feet and turned to the other gargoyle with a somewhat glare. "She needed our help."
"I don't know," everyone turned to Chelsea and Hudson who came to the group. From her left wrist to her elbow was completely wrapped in bandage. She looked down at him. "She seemed more scared of us than wanting any of our help."
"She wanted mine!" the hothead insisted.
That made the female shake her head as Broadway took something out of his loincloth.
"Lover boy took this off her wrist." He pulled out the bracelet and showed it to Elisa. The detective placed a hand under her chin.
"Well, it looks like a tracking device: digital, long range, expensive." Elisa explained.
"This symbol was on the ambulance too." Broadway turned the bracelet over and showed her the name.
Elisa narrowed her eyes. "Gen-U-Tech?"
At Gen-U-Tech in the morning, everyone was working hard on their own projects, especially the one Xanatos wants. Early morning, the millionaire and Derek stood in front of Dr. Sevarius himself.
"I think it's time for an update on our project Sevarius." Xanatos spoke with his arms crossed.
Doctor Sevarius, the man from the alleyway, was an older gentleman with bright red hair with gray age marks going down the middle. He was wearing a lab coat and holding a cane to support his hunched over body. His crooked smile clearly telling 'mad' scientist in his wake.
He walked over to a control panel and pressed a button. Everyone looked up and a screen was pulled down, and a projector was brought out behind them.
As the projector rolled the film, Sevarius strolled around the panel, and stood in front of the screen.
"You asked me to genetically design a living creature based on a gargoyle." Sevarius stated as a photograph of Broadway was shown.
Derek's eyes widened at this, then turned to Xanatos. When he didn't say anything, the bodyguard turned back to the screen which showed Goliath gliding in the sky.
"I considered cloning a living specimen," Sevarius continued. "But none was available," he turned his head to the millionaire with a sneer. "Or has that changed?"
"No, it has not." Xanatos replied.
Sevarius nodded, then turned back to the screen, which now showed a DNA chart. "So, I turned to gene splicing to breed for desired traits. The composite genotypes would give our creations the strength, speed, and agility of a jungle cat. Plus a bat's ability to fly."
"And human intelligence?"
"Yes, of course."
Xanatos and Derek followed Sevarius's movement as he stood in front of them.
"But the problem is the energy needs of the wing muscles. The specimen itself would need to eat an equivalent of three cows a day to maintain its strength."
"Cows?" Derek interjected. "Not too many of those grazers here in the big apple."
"So how do the gargoyle's do it?" Xanatos asked.
Sevarius gestured to the screen again, this time showing Goliath and Hudson as stone statues.
"My theory is they store solar energy while hibernating as stone every day. Unfortunately, that process is unknown in the rest of the animal kingdom." He turned back to the duo with a knowing smirk. "But there is another way."
The scientist typed a few keys on the panel, and an aquarium was spotlighted on to reveal-
"Electrophorus Electricus. The Electric Eel." The man explained as everyone walked up to the aquarium. "This species of eel store energy in specialized organs called electroreceptors. Adapting this might solve our problem."
Derek narrowed his eyes, not sure what to make of all this. He turned to the doctor. "Yeah, well, this is all pretty impressive theory and all, but I have one question for you."
The doctor raised an eyebrow. Boredom clearly shown on his wrinkled face. "And what is that?"
"Why did you hire mercenaries?"
"Oh!" Sevarius turned away as he went back to the control panel. "Ah, yes. You see, Derek was it, one of the test subjects escaped."
Xanatos narrowed his eyes. "Test subjects?"
"Oh, don't worry." The scientist clicked a few buttons. "She's returned safely. Behold."
Xanatos and Derek turned, and a wall opened to reveal Sevarius's creations. Behind the glass were three cat-like mutant gargoyles. While two of them, a puma and tiger were on one side snarling, the same female from the alleyway was huddled away in the corner. Not even registered to the visitors.
Derek looked at these beasts with widen eyes, his sixth sense was telling him something was wrong. Xanatos saw this, and quickly turned to Sevarius.
"You grew these three from scratch this quickly?" he asked skeptically.
"Actually…no." Sevarius answered. "That would have taken too long. I merely used a short cut. Human protocols-A human test subjects injected with a mutagenic formula."
"What?" Before Xanatos could confront the mad doctor, Derek interjected him.
"This is what you've been funding here?" Derek demanded. "Having innocent people turn into guinea pigs?!
"I can assure you Derek," Xanatos spoke in a clear and calm voice. "I had no idea."
That made Derek grit his teeth. He took the man and slammed him against the wall.
"Yeah right, I'm not that stupid Xanatos. You knew this would happen! Your face says it all!"
That made the millionaire sigh as he looked down.
"You're right Derek," he admitted. "I was fooling myself. I knew Sevarius had a bad reputation. I wanted results so badly I ignored it."
"And look what it has cost!" Derek gestured to the three mutants. The female perked up from her sulking and turned to the man.
"Don't worry." The millionaire admitted. "I'll make it right. But first." He gestured his head down. "Will you put me down please?"
Realizing this, Derek looked down and saw he held the man a few centimeters off the floor. He narrowed his eyes as he slowly brought Xanatos down. The millionaire straightened his jacket as he gestured to the mutants.
"We'll find a way to reverse the mutations."
Hearing that, Sevarius's manner changed. Instead of being tame, he became very agitated.
"NO!" Sevarius screamed. "I won't let you destroy my work!"
The scientist pulled out a dart gun from under the panel, aiming it straight at Xanatos. Seeing this, Derek quickly knocked Xanatos over, only to get darted in the shoulder. He exclaimed in pain, then quickly turned before tackling the man to the ground. Sevarius went to aim his gun again, but Derek quickly threw is away from his grasp.
"Go ahead doc," Derek declared, taking his wrist. "I'd love to do that again." Taking the dart out of his shoulder, he was confused. "Funny, I don't feel sleepy."
"Fool!"
Derek looked down and Sevarius gave a creepy smile.
"That wasn't a tranquilizer dart." The scientist explained. "That was loaded with a mutagenic formula. The same formula I used on them!"
Derek's eyes became wide as saucers, the dart falling out of his hands as he stumbled back from the doctor. Xanatos walked up, took Derek away and let him stand to the side. The millionaire glared down at the man, then took him at his coat, and plopped him in a chair.
"You'd better have an antidote." Xanatos told him with a crossed look.
"Oh I do." The mad doctor answered, tapping the side of his head. "But why would I help you destroy my work?"
Just as he said that beeping was heard, and a video came with one of Sevarius's men on the screen.
"Doctor," the man on the screen spoke. "There's a couple of police detectives here. They're investigating a kidnapping." As he said that, the screen changed to Elisa showing her badge with Matt next to her. At the sight of his sister, Derek gasped in fear. Xanatos saw this, so he used it to his advantage.
"By all means doc. Invite them in." he told him. "Let's give them a slide show shall we? Introduce them to the finished product." He gestured over to the mutants. That made Sevarius gasp.
"You wouldn't dare!" he turned to the millionaire with wide eyes. "You bankrolled everything."
"You're right." Xanatos took the man by his collar and brought him in front of his face. He glared down at the doctor. "We'll both go down for this! But I've been in prison before, have you?"
Sevarius's answer his face was pale as a ghost, and his mouth gapped. Seeing this, Xanatos continued.
"The police, the press, the public." He continued mockingly. "They'll crucify you. And if they don't." he made a fist. "I will…"
Seeing no other choice, Sevarius relented.
"Alright," he spoke softly. "I could begin work on the antidote right now."
Xanatos merely gave a nod, then turned over to Derek, who was holding his head in pain.
"How are you feeling?" the man asked as he came over.
Derek winced, his face starting to protrude sweat. "Lousy."
"Just say the word, and I'll have her brought up here. Don't worry about me. This is my fault as much as Sevarius'."
"No!" Derek's eyes became wide. "Uh-I mean, I can't face her now." He turned away with a pained look. "Maybe when he's cured me…"
"All right," Xanatos turned to the doctor with a harsh glare. "Get rid of them, and then get to work!"
The doctor nodded, then nervously went over to his desk to get started. Suddenly, Derek gasped in pain, clutching his chest as he leaned forward.
Xanatos turned to him with shock. "Derek? What's wrong?"
Derek looked up at the man, but instead his eyes being normal, they were silted like feline, and his teeth were slightly pointed.
"Help me…" he moaned.
After unsuccessfully entering Gen-U-Tech, Elisa returned to the clocktower to tell the others of the outcome.
"I don't trust Sevarius." Elisa said pacing the room back and forth. "He's definitely lying about something."
"Well, from what you said that he was giving off weird vibes," Chelsea stated as she crossed her arms above her. She shook her head. "I wouldn't trust him either."
"Can't you arrest him?" Brooklyn demanded next to her.
Elisa shook her head. "There's no probable cause. Without evidence for a warrant, my hands are tied."
That made Brooklyn grit his teeth, then he marched toward the balcony. He jumped on his perch as he and the others were getting ready for sunrise.
"Well mind aren't…" he snarled.
Jumping on her perch next to him, Chelsea looked over at him with a small frown. As much as she wanted to tell him everything will be okay, her words seemed to have gone in one ear and out the other to the red gargoyle. Also, it seemed that he was clearly…concerned…for this new gargoyle unexpectedly, and its making her worry for his well being.
Sighing on her perch, she went down on one knee, tilted her head down, closed her eyes, and brought one of her talons on the perch while the other rested on her knee. Her wings spread out as the sun's rays were shown on the horizon, turning her and her clan to stone once more.
Back in Gen-U-Tech, Derek's transformation was going at an alarming rate. His dark skin had grown brownish black fur, and large bat wings were starting to grow out of his back. As the man groaned out in pain, Xanatos turned to the doctor with a slight glare.
"How's the antidote coming?" he asked.
"Good sir," Sevarius looked at the millionaire with a narrowed look. "These things take time…" he sneered. "You of all people should know that."
"In case you forgot good doctor," the millionaire countered. He turned to the man turned creature who was shivering on the side. "Derek doesn't have time. His transformation is accelerating, and he needs this cure."
"Perhaps he should be in a cage like his friends."
"He's a man, not an animal." Xanatos snapped. "Just shut up and keep working."
The doctor turned back to his work without a second thought.
Sunset soon came once more, which all seven statues stood patiently. When the last of the rays vanished, they all broke out of their stone encasings. As soon as he shook off the last of the encasing, Brooklyn jumped on another perch, his wings spread out over him.
"Where are you going?" Goliath turned to him.
"To find her." The red gargoyle answered. "She needs my help."
Broadway scoffed and crossed his arms. "Yeah right."
"You don't know anything about her!" Brooklyn shouted.
"And neither do you!" Chelsea retaliated with an irritable look from her perch.
"Rushing off without a plan won't help her." Goliath pointed out calmly from his own.
Brooklyn turned away as he was getting ready to take off.
"And I have a plan." The leader concluded.
While the red gargoyle perked up at this, a certain female clutched her fist very hard under her crossed arms. Unbeknownst to her, Broadway took notice of this with a serious look.
Arriving at the Gen-U-Tech building, the Goliath Brooklyn Lexington and Chelsea landed on the building's skylight.
"We can get through here." Brooklyn declared, as his claw reached for the window.
"Wait!" Lexington quickly grabbed the gargoyles claw. He pointed down. "See those wires? Those wires mean electricity, which means probably an alarm."
The hothead scoffed. "Wonderful. Terrific. So what do we do now?"
Goliath stood up. "Find another way in." He walked away toward the ground. He gestured Chelsea to the ground, which she pressed her ear against it as she knocked on the floor. Giving the thumbs up, Goliath dug his claws into the stone, and made a handmade entrance to fit everyone into the building.
"Well, that's one way to make an entrance." Chelsea said with a smile.
One by one, the gargoyles leaped into the hole. When Chelsea landed last with the others, Lexington spotted a computer terminal and made a bee line for it. As his claws began typing, the others circled around him.
"Will you quit fooling around." Brooklyn growled in impatience.
Chelsea nudged an elbow into him who grunted. The hothead turned to her with a slight glare.
"What was that for?"
"Will you be patient for a few seconds?" She told him with an equal glare.
"Yeah, I'm trying to find you girlfriend." Lexington spoke over as he typed a few more keys. When the computer chirped, the olive gargoyle beamed.
"Got her."
Cody hummed as he typed another report on his laptop. After he was told to feed the mutants again (because his colleagues were busy with their own work), he decided to continue his work in where the mutants were kept, and to get away from any distractions.
While working, he would occasionally look over to the mutants who were in their cages. While the two males were relaxing in there cage, the female still sat in her corner with a look of melancholy.
Cody turned to her, thinking she might be lonely because of unable to talk to the other mutants who are next to her. After saving his work, he closed his laptop, then made his way to the female mutant. He squatted his legs, so he was the same height as her.
"Hey."
The mutant gasped, not expecting him, and looked at him with shock. The man looked down and saw she didn't touch her food he gave her a few minutes ago.
"Not hungry?" Cody asked as he gestured to her dish.
The mutant shook her head. "No…"
Cody blinked. Not expecting the mutant to talk. He cocked his head, trying to think of something to say.
"I didn't hurt you, did I?" she asked.
He looked back at her. "What?" he looked down at his arms, recalling that he had been scratched. He turned to her with a smile and brought his white sleeves down to show him the white bandages that ran down his forearms. That made the female eyes widen with fright, but Cody chuckled. She tilted her head in confusion.
"You only grazed me," he told her with a reassuring smile. "The nurse here just wanted me to be well protected."
The mutant only nodded, but Cody noticed her lips lifted a smile for a second, then her lips turned down. Cody rolled down his sleeves, then turned to the mutant again.
"What's wrong? You want to talk about it?"
The mutant brought her head in her arms. "What's the point? It won't help."
"What do you mean?"
The mutant looked up at Cody. He noticed that he cheeks were starting to turn rosy under her fur, and fresh tears were at the rim of her amber feline eyes. She sniffed as she wiped them away.
"It won't make me feel normal." She sniffed.
Cody raised an eyebrow. He sat down on the floor and spread his legs out to get comfortable.
"Normal?" he asked her again. He realized something. "Hold on, were you…human?"
The mutant sniffed as her tears fell down both her cheeks. She looked over at him and nodded with a hiccup.
Cody's eyes bulged. Never expecting her answer. When he first heard of the project, he overheard it from two security guards who were in the break room, he thought these mutants were created from a tube like any other genetic experiment. He recalled seeing a few papers that were discussing the company to create a gargoyle-like creature, but never knew that humans were a part of the experiment. When he first got the job as a geneticist (technically a records keeper), he never expected any of his colleagues turn humans into mutant creatures.
Cody brought his hand over the glass. He gave a soft solemn look as his fingers went out like a fan. He narrowed his eyes.
"Who did this to you?"
Before he could get an answer, the sound of the door opening abruptly rang his ears. Cody quickly rose to his feet, only to see gargoyles entering in the room. When they turned to him, his back went stiff as he staggered a few steps away to his desk. His hand instantly went into his pocket to look for his pepper spray. At the cage, he heard the female gasped in shock.
"St-Stay back!" She instantly went to a speaker that was attached to her cell. "Somebody help me!"
Alarms blared out the entire room, making the gargoyles stand on edge. Thinking quickly, Cody saw the lavender gargoyle lift a metal table next to him and slammed it against the glass. The process though only caused it to crack it slightly, making the female cower in the back.
"What are you doing?!" Cody exclaimed as he took out his long-range pepper spray.
Before he could aim, a blue tail smacked his wrist, making him lose the can away on the floor. Cody gasped as the only female gargoyle stood in front of him. Her wings spread out over her thin body, and her tail slithering below her large taloned feet. A prolonged hiss escaped her lips as her glowing red eyes penetrated his soul.
The man felt his breath caught in his throat as he stared at the gargoyle. His eyes stared wide in fear as he took a few steps back. After a few steps, he saw the female relax her muscles as her hiss diminished into a glare, and her demonic eyes became normal pupils.
Staring at her now, Cody's fear suddenly turned unexpectedly. His eyes softened as he looked at her facial features. Instead of staring at her with fear, he was staring with recognition. He recognized her from the Brooklyn Bridge a few months back, but there was something oddly familiar about this creature as if he seen her face before.
"Lock down the laboratory."
The four gargoyles looked over their shoulders and saw two familiar security guards entered as a metal door closed behind them. One of the guards fired a tranquilizer dart, which knocked the cat female unconscious. Brooklyn caught her an instant and hid behind with the others as Goliath blocked the blasts with a table. From one of the guards, he threw a can under Goliath's feet, which Chelsea looked at with wide eyes.
"Hold your breath!"
As soon as she said that the room was engulfed in dark smoke.
Back in Sevarius' lab, Derek moaned in pain as his transformation was almost complete, and he had to sit down.
"Building security's been breached." Sevarius stated with nervousness.
"Never mind that," Xanatos told him with a frown. "Just give Derek the antidote."
The scientist shook it off as he saw Derek's newly formed paw weakly coming toward him. His weak gesture clearly showing he was desperate. Before the doctor could give him the antidote, the door open to reveal the four gargoyles pouring in with snarls.
Derek looked over his shoulder with shock. "Not now!"
"Xanatos!" Goliath growled, pointing an accusing finger at the millionaire. "I should have known…" As soon as he finished, the gargoyles charged at the small group.
Behind them, the guards ran in, firing random shots despite the mad doctor and two guests were in with them. While evading the shots, Lexington knocked one of the guards away and was slammed right into Sevarius.
The cure went flying in the air, much to Derek's horror. He went to try and catch it, only for it to shatter its contents on the floor.
"No…" Tears fell down his cheeks, he cried an uncontrolled anger at the loss of his cure. "NO!"
Meanwhile, the two guards were keeping busy with the gargoyles. With one guard, Lexington swiped his tail, flinging the gun out of the mans hand. The second guard was about to counter until Chelsea jumped forward, her talons crushing the gun, and threw the guard toward his partner. Both fell on the ground unconscious.
Goliath leapt onto to one of the lab tables, turning his attention to the ceiling. He punched a fist sized hole, then began tearing the ceiling to make the hole bigger.
"Brooklyn, we have your friend." Goliath called. "Now let's go."
Brooklyn leapt up through the hole with the unconscious female in arms. Next was Lexington who clambered up as well as Chelsea who leapt through herself. As Goliath began to climb through, Sevarius tried to stop him.
"No!" the man exclaimed, grabbing the gargoyle's leg. "That's my creation!"
Goliath snarled, then kicked the mad scientist off him, right into the tank of eels. His back hit it, causing the glass to shatter, and gushing water pooled on the floor. The doctor accidentally grabbed one of the eels, which he writhes in agony of the creatures natural electricity coursing his body. Seconds later, his body slumped in the large puddle. Both Xanatos and Derek gasped at the outcome.
"What happened?!"
Both men turned to the door, and Cody ran into the room. He stopped a good few feet from the two men but was able to see the scene before him. His face completely white of seeing Sevarius on the wet ground.
Xanatos turned back to the doctor, and slowly approached him. Carefully avoiding the eels, he took Sevarius' wrist for a pulse.
"No pulse…" The millionaire said after a minute. "He's dead."
Derek felt his body freeze. His feelings began to pool out as tears fell down both his cheeks.
"He…he can't be dead." Derek muttered. "He's my one chance."
Xanatos turned to the mutant. He shook his head. "I'm sorry."
Derek's eyes widened. "No!" He turned away as he clutched his head. "I only needed a few more seconds!"
Cody looked at the mutant with a heartfelt look. He turned away, shaking his head, then looked down at his former boss. Sevarius was on his back, arms sprawled out, and one leg propped up. Staring at the man, he brought his hands together as he made a silent prayer.
*Twitch
Cody's eyes widened. He thought he saw Sevarius' lick his lips, but maybe it was a trick. He turned to the other people in the room but were turned away. Not even noticing anything. Turning back to the man, Cody made a narrowed look. A strange feeling was down at the pit of his stomach. He knew dead people make muscle spasms, but licking lips is something different...
"It's the gargoyles fault."
Cody and Xanatos turned to Derek as he turned back to them. A dangerous gleam was in his eyes, and his mouth twisted into a snarl.
"They'll pay for this!" he snarled. He brought up a fist. "If it takes my last breath, they'll pay."
As he said that, police sirens were heard outside. Xanatos quickly went to Derek and ushered him to the door.
"Come on," he said. "We have to get you out before the police show up." He narrowed his eyes. "Unless you want Elisa to see you like this."
Derek blinked, then looked at his claws. He shook his head, then let Xanatos take him. Before they could leave, the millionaire turned to Cody with a slight glare.
"Tell the police that this was a mere accident. Don't mention anything about the gargoyles. Understand?!"
Cody nodded quickly, then saw Derek and Xanatos exit the lab. He almost flinched when the millionaire ordered his guards to release the other two mutants from their cage.
In the clocktower, the clan gathered around the unconscious feline. All waiting for any sign of life. Out of all of them, one was really concerned.
"Why isn't she awake?" Brooklyn spoke out with worry. "Should she be up by now?"
"Will you relax," Broadway grumbled behind him. "She was knocked out not that long ago."
Brooklyn acted like he didn't listen as he stared intently at the unconscious gargoyle. Chelsea came next to him and placed a claw on his shoulder.
"She'll wake up soon, don't worry."
As she said that, the feline gargoyle moaned, making everyone look down at her. Rubbing her head along with blinking, she yelped in fright of Bronx sniffing her. She backed right up to Brooklyn, who tried to help her to her feet. She jumped away the moment she saw him.
"It's okay," the red gargoyle spoke softly. "You're among friends."
The feline scrambled away as she tried to get back to her feet. Not noticing she was backing toward Goliath.
"Were you human once too?"
"No." the leader rumbled, which made her move away from him.
"Well, I'm human. I'm not…like this." She stuttered. "My name is Maggie-Maggie Reed. I'm from Ohio."
"You'll be safe here Maggie." Lexington said taking a small step forward.
"Safe? This is safe?" Maggie replied, her back against the wall, then fell down the ground. "I need a cure. I'm not a monster."
The mention of the m-word made the clan wince. Brooklyn took a step forward, Chelsea's claw slipping out of his presence. He crouched in front of her.
"We're not monster's either." He started to explain. "Don't be afraid."
He went and tried to reach her, only for her to flinch and move out of his reach.
Goliath stepped forward, placing a claw on Brooklyn. "The dawn is coming, and we need rest." He turned to Maggie. "When night falls, we'll find a cure Maggie." He narrowed his eyes. "Even if it means confronting Xanatos at his castle."
The gargoyles walked out toward the balcony and went to their individual perch. Maggie followed a little behind to see them pose for the rising sun. She gasped as she saw each gargoyle take a fierce pose their bodies slowly turned to stone.
When they were all statues, Maggie leaned against the clock door, and collapsed on the ground. She brought her legs together as fresh tears escaped her thin face.
Inside Gen-u-Tech, the police were doing their job by examining every part of the laboratory. Taking photos of everything from the large hole in the ceiling to the damaged aquarium that had a large puddle on the floor. After one of their workers explained what happened, Elisa and Matt decided to do a little more investigating.
"I hope they fired the decorator." Elisa commented as she looked around.
"Tell me about it," Matt added as he pushed a now dead eel away from him.
Elisa looked on the floor and found scattered papers on the floor. She picked them up and made them neat. Skimming through them, she found something at the top of one.
"Hello," she let out. "What have we here?" She looked at her partner and brought the paper in front of him.
"Seems Xanatos owns Gen-u-tech." she ended with triumph.
Night soon fell, and the gargoyles broke out of their stone slumber. When everyone entered their home, Maggie was nowhere in sight. That made Brooklyn panic.
"Where's Maggie? He asked frantically.
"She probably ran away immediately after sunrise." Goliath realized.
"But she needs us!"
Up on the steps with Broadway and Lexington, Chelsea made a hard face as she felt her claw turned into a fist. She tried to keep it in, but she couldn't take it.
"No, she doesn't!" she barked.
Brooklyn turned to her abruptly. "What?"
The female gargoyle stepped forward toward him. "She was terrified of us from the start, and probably doesn't want anything to do from us. Why can't you see that?!"
"I saw a gargoyle who needed my help!" Brooklyn yelled.
"She was human Brooklyn. She lost everything for who she was and was terrified of her surroundings!" Chelsea countered, her voice hard with anger. "She didn't care that you wanted to help her because she didn't ask." She narrowed her eyes. "Guess you didn't realize that because of your infatuation for her."
The red gargoyle gritted his teeth. "What's that's supposed to mean?!"
"Don't give me that. You've been "head over heels" for her since you first laid eyes on her!" Chelsea retorted. "You didn't see how scared she was of us or you!"
"If I told her we meant no harm-"
"It wouldn't have worked!" Chelsea cut Brooklyn off. "You can't force feelings onto someone who doesn't want you!"
The hothead scoffed. "You're being ridiculous!"
"Me ridiculous?" she retorted with a narrowed eyes. "I'm not the one being the complete fool here!"
The hothead eyes grew wide, then gritted his teeth as he pointed an accusing claw at her chest. "You're the one whose being the fool!"
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Goliath bellowed.
Brooklyn and Chelsea flinched at their leader's voice, then turned back to one another. Both gave out harsh glares at one another.
"You know what," Chelsea stepped back, and flung her arms in the air. "Fine. If you think you're not a fool," she pointed outside. "Then go get her. Just don't come crying to me when she's not interested."
"Don't count on it." The red gargoyle sneered, then stalked past her toward the steps.
Chelsea stood stiff with her head held high as he walked past her. She heard him ran up the steps, and the door opening to the balcony. Her eyes closed as a light hiss came out.
Goliath looked up at the steps where the red gargoyle left, then gave a look of concern at the female. He knew he would have to talk to her, but later. He turned to Hudson who was near her.
"Hudson, you Chelsea and Bronx stay here in case she returns." He turned to Lexington and Broadway who were near the stairs. "The rest of us will go to the castle."
The gargoyles took off, leaving the other three in the tower. Hudson turned to Chelsea who stood where she was. Her back turned from him, and wings capped tightly around her stiff body. She didn't even react to Bronx standing in front of her, a soft wine escaped him as he tried to get her to pet him.
The elder stepped forward and stood behind her. He placed a claw on her shoulder, in which she flinched at his touch, and didn't even turn to him.
Hudson looked at her with worry. "Chelsea-"
"I need to be alone." Chelsea got out of Hudson's touch and rushed up the stairs and into the balcony.
"Lass wait!" Hudson and Bronx followed her to the balcony. Before they exited the door, she leaped into the air to catch an updraft, and vanished through the city of lights.
Bronx whined as he lifted his front haunches and stared off where Chelsea disappeared. Hudson stood next to the beast as he looked down with a frown.
At the Eyrie Building, Maggie had found her way to the castle and met up with the fully mutated Derek and the other two mutants. They all stood together at the edge of one of the tall battlements.
Derek turned to them. "Until Xanatos finds a cure," he stretched his newly formed wings. "We might as well learn to use these wings." He looked forward. "Follow my lead."
Derek jumped off first, which he fell face first toward the city below. He soon angled his wings as he was flying through the air. Maggie and the other two mutants jumped and followed close.
"Hey," the puma mutant exclaimed, angling his wings to go in many directions "He can keep his cure. I like this!"
As the mutants were gliding around, Xanatos and Owen were watching from the battlements.
"Owen," the millionaire turned to his assistant. "I want you to find me the best geneticist on the planet."
As the blond left to do his job, a loud roar echoed in the sky, making the mutants go on edge. They turned and saw the Manhattan clan appear in the sky. Seeing them, Derek let out a snarl.
"This is your fault, MONSTER!"
He caught an updraft and went straight for Goliath. Behind him, the other two mutants went for Broadway and Lexington.
"Here come the other two." Broadway commented.
"I don't think they like us." Lexington added.
To prove his point, the two mutants attacked them by throwing punches, but they missed by a few inches. As they were distracted, Brooklyn tried his best to catch up with Maggie.
"Maggie, wait!" he called.
Instead of doing that, Maggie continued to evade him. With Derek, he managed to go under Goliath and wrap his arms behind him as they both plummeted down to the courtyard below. As they rolled on the ground, Owen returned.
"Detective Maza is here." He told Xanatos.
"Send her up," the millionaire ordered. "We have to stop this ruthless violence somehow."
Back with the chasing duo, Maggie was still trying to get away from Brooklyn, in which he got her to land on one of the castles towers.
"Why are you afraid of me?" the red gargoyle asked pleadingly. "I only want to help you!"
"No you don't!" Maggie countered. "You only want me to stay a monster like you!"
She brought her arms up as electricity began to gather in her hands. That energy was released, striking Brooklyn in the chest, and knocking him down. With pure instinct, she abandoned the gargoyle and flew off.
Over Derek, he felt his arms rile with the same electricity, and fired it onto Goliath, bringing him to his knees. Before he could get another blow, the click of the gun was heard, and a familiar voice.
"FREEZE!"
Derek turned and was shocked to see his sister standing there with a gun aimed at him.
"Back off, and you won't get hurt." Her face was clearly not showing any sign of recognition. Realizing it, Elisa doesn't know its him…
"Now calmly," Elisa narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?"
Derek brought down his claws as he thought of a name. He wanted to say his real name, but thought against it with his…condition.
"Call me," He paused, then knew what his name should be. "Talon."
That made Elisa bring her gun as she looked at the creature.
"Okay Talon why are you stomping my friend here?" she asked in a calm voice as she gestured toward Goliath.
Talon rumbled as he stepped away as Elisa did the opposite. His panther form showing no weakness.
"Your friend made me like this." He hissed angrily.
"Impossible," Elisa shook her head. "Goliath would never intentionally hurt anyone."
Talon didn't say anything as he looked at Goliath, then to his sister. Why is she siding with him? He thought with a rumble.
"Look," Elisa slowly came forward to him with a smile. "I want to help you. If that is alright?"
The panther felt his wings slack as he thought of this, but he wasn't sure.
"Promise?"
That made the detective smile as she drew an ex on her chest. "Cross my heart."
"And hope to-"
Before he could finish, Elisa's went wide, now recognizing his voice.
"Derek?!" she gasped. She came forward to him. "Derek is that you?!"
Talon took a few steps, then hid himself within his wings. He facepalmed himself as he tried to hide his shame.
"No…" he muttered.
"Xanatos," she realized. "He did this to you!"
"No, it was an accident." Talon cowered back, trying to get away from his sister. "He's trying to help me."
"That's not true!" Elisa practically yelled. "Don't you get it? He's lying!" She placed her hands on her brother's wings. "He's always lied to you."
"SHUT UP!"
As on instinct, Talon released his electrical powers. It struck Elisa and forced her backwards to the ground. Talon turned, sheer shock encased his features, and went to his sister to help her. Before he could, he stopped and looked at Elisa's face. Her expression was of pure shock and terror, and she tried to get away from him.
Talon looked at his claws. His vision soon became blurry as tears pooled out of his eyes. As a final straw, he screamed with a mixture of sorrow, anger, and fear that rang throughout the night. He took staggering steps back, his face scrunched up with anguish.
"I'm...I'm sorry." He whispered to her.
Turning away, he ran off across the courtyard and jumped into the night sky. The other three mutants following him behind.
"Should we go after them?" Broadway asked as he and Lexington landed next to Goliath.
"No…" Brooklyn replied as he landed in front of the three. He shook his head. "Let them go. She doesn't want my help…She doesn't want me…"
Elisa rose to her feet, then turned to Xanatos. She gave a haunting glare that could turn someone to stone.
"Now it's war Xanatos," she threatened greatly. "You're going down for this, I promise you, no matter what it takes…"
With that, Elisa took her leave. The gargoyles followed her idea and took off, leaving Xanatos alone to weigh in on Elisa's threat.
Later on, Xanatos stood in his office, processing of what he accomplished. The doors behind him open as Owen and a man in a trench coat and fedora entered.
"May I present sir, the best geneticist on the planet."
Xanatos turned to the man, who was revealed by none other than Dr. Sevarius himself, alive and…not hunched. He got a new haircut, and looked fit as a fiddle without the need for a cane.
"I was particularly proud of my death scene." Sevarius stated with pride.
"Frankly Sevarius." Xanatos retorted. "I thought you overplayed the part."
"But aren't you amazed I-I mean we pulled it off? It took months of forcing the earlier subjects to escape before the gargoyles even spotted one."
Xanatos picked up a clicker, then turned on his screen to reveal Talon flying about. "But after that, things couldn't have proceeded more predictably. I never expected Der-Talon to be well suited in his new form, wouldn't you say?"
"Well," Sevarius looked down at him with a slight frown. "They've all escaped."
"They'll be back. Talon is convinced only I can cure him, and that delusion will keep him where I want him."
Back in the clocktower, Brooklyn sat at one of the clock faces. His face fell with utter despair at what he's been though. Next to him, Lexington was at his side, placed an arm around his brother's back to comfort him.
A few feet from them, Elisa sat on a pile of hay in the corner. Her body breaking down as tears ran down her thin face, and sobs escaped each passing second. Goliath Broadway and Hudson watched but didn't do anything, for they knew she needed to grieve the loss of her brother…as long as she needed to.
Down below at the door leading to the balcony, Bronx was staring out over the railing. He whined in sorrow as his eyes watched for any sign of the gargoyle who hasn't returned home yet…
Chelsea landed at a lone rooftop that was far away from the clocktower. Her eyes welled up in tears as her feelings pooled out from keeping them in during the flight out of the clocktower.
Her lips trembled, then turned into a hiss as her fist pounded on the concrete railing. She snarled as stone exploded under her undamaged fist.
"Damn that red gecko!" Chelsea snarled as another fist pounded on the railing. Stone exploded as fallen debris went on the floor and down below.
"Why can't he understand that-that Maggie doesn't need any help from us! Much less him!" she snarled as her claws grazed the damaged railing.
She turned away from the railing and began to pace on the rooftop. Her wings arching above her as her claws went up and down in frustration.
"I mean, it was clearly written on Maggie's face that she was terrified of us. Terrified! She was a scared human trapped as a mutant and wasn't even asking for us! Heck, she even called those guards at Gen-U-Tech…to get rid of us!
"So what did that hothead think…nothing! Just absolutely nothing! He was just too transfixed that there's another female gargoyle in Manhattan that he didn't even think of what she was scared of, or who for that matter!"
The female stopped pacing and stood in the center of the rooftop. Her eyes cast down on her shadow. The moonlight shined on her back that shown her spread wings behind her thin form. She shook her head, her eye closed as she hissed out.
Chelsea went to the edge of an undamaged railing and gazed out toward the city. Her mind still filled with rage from Brooklyn still going after Maggie, recalling how desperate he was of going after the feline. Her anger diminished into a small frown and looked down. Tears slowly fell down her cheeks.
"What does she got that made him want her so badly?"
Thinking about it, from her cat-like gargoyle features to her bat-like wings, Maggie was…attractive to any other male gargoyle. It was no wonder why Brooklyn was so transfixed of her.
Her claw turned into a fist. She clenched her teeth as she rumbled a growl. Her anger rose again, but not as much when she first arrived. She took a breath, her eyes closed, then sighed. She opened them again, then cast downward.
"What's wrong with me?" she looked at her claw that made a fist, then let that tension go. She realized something.
"Am I…jealous?"
Was she? Is that why she was against Brooklyn going after Maggie? All these questions piled up in her mind that her head gave a throbbing feeling. She moaned as she slowly massaged her head. It leaned against her palm as her elbow was still on the railing. She sighed again. This time, she leaned her head on her crossed arms against the railing.
She has to be…she has to be jealous. Chelsea never saw Brooklyn so concerned for someone since…her. For as long as she could remember, besides Hudson Goliath and-Demona, Brooklyn had been a good friend since they were young. Someone she could trust, be there to rely on, and feel comfortable to be around.
He, along with Broadway and Lexington, were the only ones she would want to hang out with all the time. They saw her as a sister in arms, and always welcomed her to be a part of their group. Even though he saw Broadway and Lexington as only friends, Brooklyn…she saw something else. Chelsea couldn't describe it, but occasionally she saw something in him that made her blush every time. Heck, she would try to make him blush too.
But wait…does that mean? Does she like him more than a friend? Does she…love him?
*Cla-clink*
Chelsea froze, her ears picked the sound of her guessing a gun. She swiftly spun behind, only to be pricked on her upper chest. She screeched with a grunt, then plucked at what was on her chest. She gasped, a single dart with the initials G.I laid in her claws.
A clump was heard, and footsteps were coming toward her slowly. She looked up and saw someone standing in the shadows. Holding a single rifle. She tried to move forward, only to feel her head throb, her vision losing focus every two seconds, and her muscles starting to feel heavy. She leaned her back against the railing, sweat starting to form on her forehead, then turned to her attacker with strained narrowed eyes.
"Easy girl," the figure spoke in a southern New York accent as he came out of the shadows.
With her mind going fuzzy, all Chelsea could see he was wearing a dark brown coat and a same-colored newsboy hat over his dusty blonde hair. She struggled to bring her body right, only to grunt and fall on her chest. Her head turned to her pursuer with narrowed eyes and a hiss.
"Now don't be scared sweet thing," the man squatted down to her. He slung his gun over his shoulders as he looked at her with a crooked smile. "Just go to sleep, and nobody gets hurt."
Chelsea eyes glowed red as she lightly snarled for a second. Soon, she felt the effects of the dart taking a toll on her. Her eyes began to close, and her wing muscles sprawled out on her back.
The man brought his gun in front of him as he poked her shoulder with the butt of his rifle. She was out cold.
Smirking, the man straightened up, and pulled out a cell phone. He quick-dialed and brought the phone to his ear. The other voice was on the line.
"Yeah, I got one boss. Just like you said I would."
The muffled voice was heard on the other line.
"Nah, she was alone."
The other voice was heard again.
"Yeah, a female. A fine beauty she is." He said as he gazed at unconscious Chelsea. He looked ahead as the voice was heard once more.
"A chopper? You got it boss. We'll be waiting." With a click of his phone, he put it away in his pocket. He turned back to Chelsea who was still out cold.
The mans' face twisted in a disturbing look as he gazed at her.
"The doc wants to see you." He said in a haunted sing-song voice, then his voice cackled down at Chelsea's unconscious body.
Man, this one was a long chapter! I know, I said I hate it, but I gotta admit I put more thought in what I wanted than the last few chapters. Can't wait for the next one, which will be PURE ORIGINAL. Hehe! Next chapter will come eventually, so don't go away!
Gargoyles belongs to Greg Weisman!
Story was for pure fun! Which I'm enjoying!
