Author's Note: It's a certain red haired tsundere's birthday, and so I decided to whip up this short little one-shot.
Sitting on her bed with her legs crossed with a blanket wrapped around her, Asuka held a plush doll in her lap that reassembled an odd monkey as she eyed the window of her room. The curtains had been drawn open earlier in order to get a view of the outside weather. Not that it was much of a view considering the large flakes of snow blowing past it at high speeds, the white of the snow that was reflected from the lamp sitting on her nightstand made them stand out amidst the darkness of the evening sky.
'Ugh, damn winter with its early nights, and damn this snowstorm!' She wasn't much of a fan of losing multiple hours of daylight around this time of year, nor was she much a fan of how exceedingly cold it could get. Just looking at the snow falling outside her apartment made the red-headed girl want to shiver. Grabbing her blanket, she pulled it tighter around herself, while she had turned on the heater of the apartment, it could only get so warm against the chill the weather brought, not to mention how she could only keep it on for so long if she didn't want to rack up the bill too high.
'What a way to spend my birthday…' Asuka mentally bemoaned to herself as she was effectively stuck in her apartment as one of the bigger snowstorms in the recent years for the prefecture just so happened to come down on her birthday. Any big plans with her friends were cancelled, as was confirmed but the birthday texts that were followed up with regrets of being unable to do anything for her with how bad the weather was.
Though as she snuggled into the bundle of blankets wrapped around herself, the red head supposed that it could be worse. While she wasn't able to go out and do things, she didn't exactly find herself utterly upset at the prospect of staying warm in bed. All she could really think of needing was some entertainment and a nice hot drink to help turn her evening into a relatively nice and relaxing one.
'Speaking of…' She thought as the door to her room, which had not been closed completely, gently pushed open. In the door frame stood a young woman who was close in age to Asuka who wore red framed glasses and had long brown hair. With a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, she held two ceramic mugs by their handles. The cups were colored a bright pink and a dim crimson respectively with both emanating steam from their tops.
Walking with a strut to her stride, the bespectacled girl held out the dark red mug towards her companion on the bed.
"Your drink, Princess." Mari said with a small grin as she extended the warm beverage towards her.
"Finally…" Asuka breathed out as she reached her hands towards it in a grabbing motion, only for the other girl to pull the cup back slightly, 'Hot chocolate, the perfect drink for such an occasion.'
"Careful, it's hot." The glasses wearing girl warned.
"Tch, I know that Four-eyes..." The German girl rolled her eyes with a scoff as she grabbed the cup, before then wincing at the hot ceramic and quickly maneuvering her blanket to cover her palms, thus protecting them the heat.
'Really putting that college education to good use…' The birthday girl humorously thought at her solution to protecting her hands. Pointedly ignoring smug smirk on the brunettes' face, she stared down at the cup of steaming hot chocolate she now had. Its surface was reflective brown that swayed slightly. Blowing on it gently caused rippled to form and unlike Mari's it was not interrupted by various small marshmallows as the red-head girl found the gummy like texture of marshmallows melting in hot chocolate to be horrid.
"Hm, the snows really coming down out there, huh?" Her partner remarked as she stared out the window, causing Asuka to look up from her drink that she was trying to cool off and give an absentminded hum, "Sucks that we couldn't really do anything for your birthday."
"Yeah…" Came another absentminded response as the auburn-haired girl continued to blow on her cup of cocoa, taking a glance at the brunette as she sat down right next to her on the bed, "Oh well, I guess we can just plan something to do on the weekend."
"That sounds nice," Mari agreed as she blew on her own mug of hot chocolate that had small gooey marshmallows bobbing up on the surface of the liquid, not keeping it to close so it wouldn't fog up her glasses, "No scheduling conflicts, and hopefully no more storm. I'm not sure if our friends will even be able to get through all this snow tomorrow."
"I doubt Shinji would even be able to open his front door before wonder girl stopped him, let alone actually go out in this weather; you know how protective Rei can be when it comes to him." Asuka huffed with a shake of her head before then taking a sip of her drink and mentally cursing as it lightly scolded her tongue before she then began blowing on the liquid with vigor.
"Mhm, I think it's rather cute," The bespectacled girl hummed as she took a sip of her own hot chocolate and showed no signs of discomfort, causing the other girl to send her a brief withering glare before rolling her eyes and forcing herself to take another sip of her drink regardless of if it was still too hot, "Though it also not like we're going to be able to go out either which means no eating out somewhere, and I doubt anywhere is willing to do take out delivery, so I guess we'll have to fend for ourselves Princess."
"It's not like I don't have any food here." The red head defended with a small pout.
"Sure, but we won't know exactly what we can make until we check so we might just end up having to eat some of those instant meals I know you have stashed." The brunette gave a small teasing grin as she drank some chocolate and marshmallows.
"You can deal with that later, right now I want to watch something…" Reaching for the remote on her nightstand, the red head turned on her small tv that she had in her room. Then putting on one of the streaming services they were subscribed to and signing in, she started scrolling through available content.
However, the search for something to watch was halted as the glasses wearing girl slung an arm from under her blanket around the shoulders of her partner.
"So, you just want to watch something and chill~" Mari spoke with a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows.
"Unless you got something better to do…" The German girl replied, not quite catching on.
"It's nothing we can't do later, I wouldn't mind snuggling up and watching something, for now~." She said in a husky tone as her teal eyes gazed into the auburn-haired girls' blue ones before then taking a sip from her cup that she held with one hand.
"W-whatever Four-eyes." Was all Asuka deigned to reply with, trying not to let her blush be too noticeable as she returns to finding something to watch.
Quickly settling on a movie that they had both seen before and like, the red head put it on and set the remote down. Returning her free hand back to holding her drink with both, she took a sip of the chocolate goodness that had lost enough heat for her to enjoy it in its entirety.
Looking to her shoulder, she noticed that the other girls' arm was still wrapped around it loosely. Turning her gaze to the television as the movie played, she took another drink of her beverage before then leaning into the girl beside her.
"Hm, so I noticed you like your gift." The bespectacled girl mentioned as she leaned into the red head, glancing at the plush monkey doll in the other girls' lap that peaked through the blankets wrapped around her.
"Yeah… I do." She mumbled in response.
"Honestly, I wasn't expecting you to really be the type to collect stuffed animals Princess." Mari teased lightly.
"Hmph, it's just cause' this one reminds of the one my mom had gotten me when I was little." Asuka defended with one arm moving to go around it as she looked at it, it was very similar to the one her mother had gotten her and that she lost so long ago.
"Huh, that's neat, I just knew when I saw you looking at it that one time that I'd have to get it for you." The brunette explained with a small smile, "I'm glad that you like my gift so much."
"Yeah, thank you." She really meant it.
"Of course, Princess." Her partner told her as she gave her a squeeze with the arm that she had around her before then leaning towards her and planting a peck on her forehead before then just leaning her head against her.
Letting out a breath, Asuka took a sip of her chocolate and considered that at despite the snowstorm that she at least has her girlfriend to keep her company.
'Definitely not the worst way to spend my birthday…'
