Halloween was always a day of celebration for most children, and even many adults. Dressing up as their favourite heroes or monster, however for Harry Potter, things were much sadder on this day. This day 20 years ago was the day he became famous, the day a curse that left anyone it touches dead rebounded onto its caster, the day the dark lord perished. This sounds like it would be a good thing, but it was also the day that Harry Potter lost his parents. The 21-year-old man has not had much luck on future Halloweens following that fateful night. In his first year of school he was face to face with a troll, in his second year he was blamed for an attack within the castle, third year had a man that was meant to be trying to kill him enter the castle, and forth year had Harry chosen for a deadly tournament he did not want to compete in.
Harry, as usual, was using Halloween as a night of remembrance for the fallen. He thought about his parents and how little he knew of them, he thought about all his friends who battled and were lost in the war that followed his teenage years, he also thought about his godson who was taken from him by a loophole. Teddy Lupin, son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, was named his Godson during the final battle at Hogwarts, but due to Remus and Tonks not making it to the other side of the battle it was never made official. Teddy was put into an Orphanage. He had other family, but none were willing to take in the child. Harry tried to gain custody of Teddy and failed, being sent many different reasons why, the first being that he was not married, and once that was solved his age was an issue.
Harry's wife, Ginny, was very rarely around due to her professional quidditch career. She was a chaser for the all-female team called the Holyhead Harpies. She had only recently signed after spending her time post-Hogwarts travelling around for different training camps and trialling for as many teams as she could. She was offered a position at a lower team in a neighbouring country and was likely taking it until she heard there was a spot open in the Harpies squad.
Whenever she was with Harry, she acted distant, spending as much time as she could with her family at the Burrow, or with Luna. If she wasn't doing that she was at Fred's grave. Harry understood why Ginny wanted to see Fred's resting place but was quite upset at first with how little he got to see his wife, but as time went on, he started to realise he did not know what he saw in the young woman he married.
During school harry had few close friends, with his closest being Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. Ron was his best friend, but after Harry left the aurors, which worked as the police of the wizarding world, the best friends drifted apart. Ron was not overly impressed with Harry for leaving, which caused and argument to happen between the two men. Harry will never forget the last words he heard Ron direct at him. "You killed Voldemort and now your too good to be an Auror?! Too good to work with us lower wizards?".
Hermione, who married Ron, was angry about this final interaction between Harry and her husband. She understood Harry's position and why he left the Auror Corps. The reason remained unspoken as to most it was obvious. Hermione was working within the Ministers Offices when she heard about the situation. She read Harry's resignation moments before Ron had burst into the room without warning, complaining about the 'lack of respect' harry had for them. The right-hand woman for the Minister had no time to react when a guard stunned her husband not realising that it was an Auror who had entered and not a dark wizard here to attack the Minister.
No, this was not how Harry expected the days leading to Halloween to go, the days leading up to the saddest part of Harry's year. This year it seemed like he was going to be alone again, just like he likes it. Ginny away, Ron in hospital after the powerful stunner, and Hermione most likely next to him.
The Boy who Lived Twice was wrong though. He felt a tug on the wards to his house and moments later, he heard the fireplace come to life. Harry raised his wand, ready to fire at the intruder. The outline of a person formed in the green fire, unable to be identified due to the light of the flames in the darkened room. A voice could be heard, and that voice was familiar.
"Harry! Are you home?"
That voice belonged to Hermione.
'What is she doing here?' Harry questioned in his head.
Harry lowered his wand cautiously; he was very confused as to why Hermione was here and not at St Mungos. Hemione explained that she was extremely upset with Ron, and how he treats other people and how he treated Harry today was the last straw. Harry invited Hermione to stay with him to talk about the past, and how they would change what has happened.
"For starters, I wouldn't be friends with Ronald" began Hermione, "Merlin Knows why I married such a rude man."
"Being friends with him was very testing at times." Harry agreed, "I think I understand what Malfoy meant that one time after the final battle."
"You mean when he said that you deserve a friend that wouldn't stab you in the back for a quick galleon?" Hermione questioned.
"Exactly" Harry exclaimed.
