News of the approaching asteroid, which some are now calling the Disasteroid, circulates around the globe. Countries are combining their greatest technologies to stop the oncoming threat. Sadly it appear that our best may not be good enough. And speaking of not good enough, let's go live to Fenton Works." Shelly Makamoto said.
"Thanks, Shelly. I'm here ringside where a privately funded mission to stop the Disasteroid is underway." Lance Thunder said.
"I can't believe I'm just sitting here at a computer console when I should be out there stopping this." Danny said. "And I really can't believe we have to do this with him."
"We would have never been able to get this mission up and running so fast if he hadn't paid for everything. So at least until the world is saved, chill." Jazz snapped.
"How's it going young man?" Lance asked.
"Uh. My dad Jack Fenton is piloting our new-" Danny began.
"-My new." Vlad cut in.
"Fenton Rocket." Danny said sharply. "And is on his way to destroy the asteroid."
But it wasn't Jack. It was KURI! She was sitting in the pilot's seat.
"Kuri?!" Danny cried.
"He, I mean, She looks very serious about his mission." Lance amended.
"We have to get her down from there!" Maddie cried.
"Why not let her finish the mission." Vlad smiled silkily. "Time is money after all."
"Why you slimy—" Danny began.
"No, he's right Danny." Maddie sighed. "The earth doesn't have long enough for a switch."
"Hello everyone." Kuri said formally. "We are going to shoot down the Disastroid with seismic charges. I—I mean we—are not coming down until it is gone. It's my—our—responsibility, to the world."
Kuri stared right into the camera, and Danny felt her gaze through the depths of space. He felt the cold hard sensation of guilt settling in his stomach. This was his fault. Kuri was sending him a message.
Danny's fists clenched, but he returned to the mission.
"With me now is Amity Park's mayor Vlad Masters. I understand you've sent in your own team of experts." Lance continued as if nothing as crazy as a teenager on a dangerous mission had happened.
"Oh yes." Vlad said, distracted from the chess game in his head. "Seeing as the world is in jeopardy, I felt that the Masters' Blasters presence was an absolute necessity. Plus, think of how well their action figures will sell."
"Kuri, sweetie." Maddie said worriedly. "Mission status?
"Readying seismic drill charges. Now!" Kuri said, taking the controls. "Switching to manual."
From Vlad came a sharp intake of breath. Danny noticed and snorted. Not going according to plan, eh, Fruit Loop?
"Detonation in three. Two. One." Kuri said, and fired.
For a moment all was well, the Disasteroid was blown to smithereens.
But alas, that was not the case. The seismic charge blew it in three pieces, but the Disasteroid joined back together seamlessly.
Kuri snarled a curse.
"We can edit that in post, right?" Lance said.
"No-o, we're live." The cameraman said apologetically.
Danny suppressed a laugh. Even in horrible circumstances, Kuri was still Kuri.
"I'm not giving up." Kuri cried.
"Well we're going home." Download snapped, punching in the coordinates. "With or without you."
"Without, then." Kuri pushed the button for the escape pod. "I don't need the Master's Blaster's Cowards."
She leapt in and headed for the Disasteroid.
"World, this is my final transmission." Kuri spoke into the mike. "I'm not coming back home until earth is safe. Or someone saves it."
The screen went black.
Danny stared, eyes wide, a single tear coursing down his cheek.
