The days following Kaneki's realization were heavy with silence. He distanced himself from Kuri, retreating into himself as he wrestled with the cruel reality of his situation. The joy he had felt as a human—the warmth of the sun, the taste of food, the sense of normalcy—was gone, replaced by the gnawing void of hunger that had once defined his existence.
He spent hours alone, staring at his reflection. The dark hair, the human facade—it felt like a mockery. His humanity had been a fleeting illusion, a cruel trick. And the one person who held the answers, who had dragged him into this nightmare twice over, was still out there.
Rize.
The name burned in his mind, a fire he couldn't extinguish. He had to find her. He had to know why. Why had she done this to him? Why had she turned him into a ghoul, only for her blood to give and then rip away his humanity again? And most of all, why did she seem to hold the keys to the truth about his condition?

Kuri found him one night, standing on the rooftop of a derelict building, the wind whipping through his dark hair. His eyes were distant, cold, like they belonged to someone else entirely.
"Kaneki," she said softly, stepping closer. "Talk to me."
He didn't respond at first, his gaze fixed on the horizon. Then, in a flash of movement, he turned, closing the distance between them. Before she could speak again, his hands gripped her shoulders, pulling her into a kiss that was rough, almost desperate.
Kuri gasped, her hands pressing against his chest as if to push him away, but she didn't. His lips moved against hers with an urgency that left her breathless, his grip unyielding.
When he finally pulled back, his voice was low and cold. "Don't try to stop me."
"Kaneki—" she started, but he silenced her again, this time with another kiss, his fingers tangling in her hair as he pressed her closer. She could feel the weight of his anguish, the raw pain he was trying to bury, but she couldn't break through it.
When he finally released her, his gaze was steely, unrelenting. "I have to do this."
And with that, he was gone, disappearing into the shadows before she could say another word.

Kaneki's transformation into the Black Reaper was swift and brutal. He discarded the last remnants of his humanity, donning a new identity that mirrored the darkness within him. His movements were methodical, his purpose singular. He hunted with precision, cutting through those who stood in his way with cold efficiency.
His hunt for Rize led him to Cochlea, the infamous ghoul detention center. The rumors whispered that she had escaped, but Kaneki knew better. Rize was too cunning to simply flee. She was hiding, and he was going to find her.
The infiltration was swift, almost effortless. The guards fell before him like dominoes, their cries silenced by his kagune. The Black Reaper carved a path of destruction through the sterile halls, his eyes burning with a singular purpose.

He found her in a dimly lit cell, her once-magnificent presence reduced to something feral, her body weakened but her eyes still sharp, still predatory. She looked up as he entered, a slow, sardonic smile spreading across her lips.
"Well, if it isn't Kaneki," she purred. "Or should I call you the Black Reaper now?"
Kaneki didn't respond. His kagune shot out, pinning her against the wall with brutal force. She hissed in pain, her smirk faltering as his claws pressed against her throat.
"No games, Rize," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "You're going to tell me everything."
"Everything about what?" she sneered, though her voice wavered. "Why you're a failure? Why you'll always be trapped between two worlds? Face it, Kaneki, you're—"
He tightened his grip, cutting off her words as his kagune coiled tighter around her. "The One-Eyed King," he said sharply. "Who is he? What does he have to do with the cure?"
Rize's eyes widened slightly, the name clearly striking a nerve. "You think the One-Eyed King has all the answers?" she rasped, her voice dripping with mockery. "Maybe he does. Or maybe he's just another myth to keep fools like you chasing your tail."
Kaneki's patience snapped. His kagune pierced her shoulder, drawing a scream from her lips. He leaned in close, his voice a venomous whisper. "Tell me where to find him."
For a moment, Rize struggled against him, her pride refusing to give in. But as the pain mounted, her resolve faltered. "Fine," she spat, blood dripping from her lips. "The One-Eyed King… He's in the 24th Ward. Deep underground. But you'll never make it to him. You'll die before you even get close."
Kaneki pulled back slightly, his grip on her loosening just enough to let her breathe. "We'll see," he said coldly.
He turned to leave, his mission complete, but Rize's voice stopped him. "Kaneki," she called, her tone softer, almost pleading. He paused, glancing back at her.
"You'll never escape this," she said, her eyes burning with a mix of hatred and something almost like pity. "You'll never be human again."
Kaneki's expression darkened, and he left without another word.

Outside Cochlea, Kuri was waiting. The moment she saw him, bloodied and cold, her heart twisted. She stepped forward, her hands trembling as she reached for him.
"Kaneki, what did you do?" she asked, her voice breaking.
He didn't answer. Instead, he pulled her close, his lips crashing against hers with a desperation that made her knees buckle. His hands cupped her face, holding her like she was the only thing keeping him tethered to reality.
When he finally pulled away, his forehead rested against hers, his breath ragged. "I know where to go," he said softly. "The One-Eyed King has the answers."
Kuri's eyes filled with tears, but she nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Then we'll find him. Together."
