Kuri fidgeted nervously, her fingers brushing against each other as she avoided Rin's gaze. The two stood alone under the dim glow of a streetlamp in the quiet corner of True Cross Town. The fight was over, the demon defeated, but the air between them buzzed with an entirely different energy now. Rin's blue flames, though subdued, still flickered faintly around him, casting an ethereal glow over his sharp features and demonic horns.
She glanced up at him shyly, her cheeks flushed. "Um… Rin?"
"Yeah?" He tilted his head slightly, his glowing eyes softening when they met hers.
Kuri hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. The words tumbled out before she could stop them. "What… what happens if I kiss you while you're like this? You know… as your… demon self?"
Rin blinked, taken aback by her question. His tail flicked behind him, betraying his surprise. "I… I don't know. No one's ever tried that before," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. "Wanna… try it?"
Her breath hitched. She hadn't expected him to say that. But his voice, steady and reassuring, made her feel brave. She nodded, her eyes locking onto his. "Y-Yeah. I… I think I do."
For a moment, neither of them moved, the world narrowing down to just the two of them. The flicker of his flames and the faint hum of her lingering silver energy intertwined, creating a strange, quiet harmony.
Rin leaned down slowly, his hands tentatively resting on her shoulders. "You sure?" he asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes," Kuri breathed, her voice trembling with anticipation.
Then, he kissed her.
The contact was gentle at first, a soft press of lips that sent a shiver down her spine. But something inside her stirred—a mix of relief, passion, and the thrill of the unknown. She leaned into him, her hands gripping the front of his jacket as she kissed him harder, deeper.
Rin's arms wrapped around her instinctively, pulling her closer as the kiss grew more fervent. The warmth of his flames didn't burn her; instead, it felt like an embrace, wrapping her in a cocoon of heat and safety.
Her heartbeat thundered in her ears as her fingers tangled in his hair, brushing against the base of his horns. She felt him shudder at her touch, his tail curling tightly around his leg as if he was trying to keep control.
"Mmm…" Rin murmured against her lips, his hands moving to cradle the back of her head. One of his arms tightened around her waist, holding her steady as he leaned into the kiss.
Kuri could feel the power radiating from him, raw and untamed, but it didn't scare her. If anything, it drew her in further. She poured all of her emotions into the kiss—gratitude for his bravery, admiration for his strength, and a growing affection that she couldn't quite put into words yet.
Rin's flames flickered wildly for a moment, flaring before slowly dimming as he regained control. He pulled back slightly, just enough to catch his breath, but not enough to let her go. His tail swished behind him, betraying his flustered state.
"Wow," he muttered, his voice rough but tinged with a hint of awe. "That was… something else."
Kuri looked up at him, her cheeks flushed and her breathing uneven. She couldn't help but smile shyly. "It felt… amazing," she admitted. Her fingers brushed against his cheek, tracing the line of his jaw. "You felt… different. Not bad, just… powerful. Intense."
Rin let out a soft chuckle, his thumb gently brushing against her cheek. "Yeah? Guess that's the 'demon guy' side of me," he said with a lopsided grin.
As he spoke, the blue flames around him flickered one last time before vanishing completely. His horns receded, and his tail uncurled, disappearing into thin air. Rin returned to his human form, his features softening as he sheathed his sword.
But his arms remained around her, and his gaze stayed locked on hers. "So… was it weird? Kissing me like that?"
Kuri shook her head quickly, her smile growing. "Not weird at all. It felt… right."
Rin's grin widened, his confidence returning as he pulled her into another quick hug. "Good," he said, resting his forehead against hers. "'Cause I kinda liked it too."
The moment lingered between them, charged with unspoken emotions and the promise of something more. For the first time, Kuri saw not just the brave, kind boy she'd admired from afar, but someone who had opened a door to a part of himself he rarely let others see.
And she wasn't afraid to walk through it.
