"Marinette, don't look now, but Adrien's staring at you," Alya whispered. Marinette paused with her fork in midair. "Does he look happy, mad, all of the above?" Alya slowly peeked. "I think he wants you to join him."
Marinette gave a little squeak, and stood up, tray firmly clutched in her hands. The last thing she wanted to do was dump pineapple pizza and fruit juice all over her best friend.
Adrien leaped up, taking the tray from her. "Let me help you with that," he said, brushing his fingers against hers, making them go all tingly. His voice was warm, and Marinette despite her nerves, felt happy.
"I was hoping we could eat lunch together, if that's okay?" Marinette nodded. "How do you like your pizza?" she asked. Adrien smiled. "I'm not used to many carbs, but the pineapple reminds me of a island."
"That sounds nice," Marinette said, dreamily. "Waves coming to and fro, warm sand, at night the moonlight would be spectacular," she looked at Adrien a little wistfully, then laughed shaking her head. "Listen to me. Its not like I'll be leaving Paris any time soon."
Adrien leaned forward, dropping his voice lower. "But if you could, would you?" Marinette bit her lip. Her duties as Ladybug tied her here for the moment, and there was Cat and…. "I'd miss Cat a great deal," she said. "He's special to me, just like you. How about you?"
Adrien's eyes softened. "Only if I was with the right person." "Oh." Marinette felt her cheeks warm. "Marinette?" "Yes?" "Could I take you on a real date soon? I mean, the cafeteria's nice…" "Your asking me on a date?" "Yeah, I guess I am."
"I'd like that. Oh, and I like cheesecake, so pick me up at seven?" "Deal." the lunch bell rang and they stood up to drop off their trays.
"I can't wait to get to you know you, Marinette," Adrien brushed her cheek gently, then disappeared into the crowd. "Me too, my love," she whispered. "Me too."
