Chapter 1

North Korean Nuclear Disaster

August 29th, 2004.

7:35 P.M. Pacific Time

The mountainside region of Punggye-Ri, deep within North Korea, miles away from Pyongyang.

Dozens of men in radiation suits with masks stood at a safe distance, observing the large towers that contained many fearsome sphere-like objects. The nation's leader, Zim-Il Tyrong, stands at the edge of the observation deck with his body guards. In a few moments, a new page in Korean history would soon be written.

Every brilliant physicist and member of the government had been hard at work for decades on the program, with many nuclear breakthroughs achieved on the way to the bomb.

Nuclear plants had been established, harnessing radioactive energy from the depths of the earth, and the nation had achieved its first atomic bomb. The program was evolving, with more bombs being developed, and missiles had soon gone into production.

Tyrong turned to a nearby operator with firmly confident expression in his eyes. "Proceed with the test." He instructed.

Orders were passed along, and the countdown was underway. Anxious seconds passed, and people took cover. Safety goggles were raised, and guards made haste to clear the area before the ensuing blast.

Just then, the earth shuddered, and birds flew from the trees. Tyrong and his guards looked around, nearly baffled by the occurrence. The operators halted the countdown, and a pair of guards began inspections.

Tyrong stared at the test towers firmly. No earthquake was going to delay such a historic moment, especially a nuclear test. Oppenheimer and his team didn't let a rainstorm interfere with the testing of the bomb in Los Almos, and science wasn't always patient. The bombs would detonate, no matter what.

"WHAT'S THAT?!" Someone screamed.

All eyes shifted as the earth rumbled again, and a menacing, earth-shattering roar shook the region. Looming over Punggye-Ri, at 125 meters in height, was a dinosaur-like beast with red-orange eyes, orange spikes on its back, and dark scaly skin with patches of glowing orange.

Panic swept across the nuclear test site in an instant as people scrambled to flee, and an alarm began wailing. Tyrong stepped back, with a pair of his bodyguards coming forward to escort him away from the area.

"ITS GODZILLA!" A technician shouted.

Godzilla, the ancient reptilian embodiment of nuclear destruction, roared, and advanced towards the testing towers. His tail slammed into the earth, smashing a row of nearby trees, and the titanic behemoth opened his mouth once more with a howl, "GWAAAAAARRRRRRRR!"

The spikes on his back crackled, and flashed with radioactive energy. Godzilla lurched forward, and fired a bright orange beam of concentrated nuclear power upon the structures containing the bombs. Affected by the heat of Godzilla's breath, and, as if reacting to the energy that came forth, the untested explosives detonated.

A large explosion lit the region, and a gigantic mushroom cloud rose into the sky. The mountains shook, the trees incinerated, and every structure in the area was reduced to ruin. Godzilla glowed, and roared thunderously, taking in the radioactivity released by the bombs that he'd triggered.

Relishing in the moment, Godzilla turned, and looked down upon the humans attempting to flee. The shockwave from the blast rolled across the field, and people toppled over. The great beast roared, and fired off another radioactive beam of death.

Tyrong looked up as he attempted to flee, and stared into the eyes of Godzilla as the behemoth unleashed his power, quickly realizing he was doomed.

Godzilla's heat ray struck near the North Korean leader's position, with the ground exploding around Tyrong instantly. He drew one final breath, and screamed as the blast consumed him. With firelight gleaming in his eyes, Godzilla turned, and roared again as his thundering cry echoed across the North Korean landscape.
