Chapter 3
Battle in The Pacific
September 1st, 2004
Wednesday, 05:45 A.M.
Pacific Ocean, near the Sea of Taiwan, miles from the coast of Japan
The USS R. Detroit drifted amongst the tides alongside a JSDF navy vessel, with the American banner flapping in the breeze over the former. Both collaborating Japanese and US forces were prepared for a sign of danger, especially a sign pertaining to Godzilla, and all guns would be armed and ready at a moment's notice.
A bright orange light flashed beneath the water a few meters off the starboard of the Detroit, and a large tail burst forth. The titanic mass of Godzilla emerged with his red-hot dorsal plates flashing, and the water around the King of The Monsters began to steam and boil.
"Calling all forces!" An American battle commander yelled, "Godzilla has been spotted! We repeat: Godzilla has been spotted! Code red! This is not a drill! All forces, battle stations!"
Godzilla turned towards the vessels in the area, and the titanic dinosaur let out a furious bellow. Jet fighters took off from a nearby aircraft carrier, and circled the irradiated beast while the pilots maintained a safe distance as best they could, determined to avoid crashing into Godzilla or getting scalded by the heat that roiled off his body.
"GYAAAAOOON!" Godzilla howled, and his cry shook the sea. The encircling military force answered with first opening barrage of fire, lighting the air with a flurry of explosions. Missiles launched from the deck of the Detroit with all thrusters burning as they streaked towards Godzilla, and the turrets shuddered as the cannon barrels thundered to life.
"Let him have it!" An Asian-American pilot shouted to his squadron as he swooped in to attack the King of The Monsters.
"I got him on my scope." A Japanese fighter ace said in English, and his fingers rapidly tapped the trigger. The plane's guns lit up with a RATATATATATATATATA as the ammo shot out like coins ejected from a drink dispenser, and they struck Godzilla across the torso before dropping into the steamy circle of water around him.
The battleships' missiles roared wildly towards the titanic beast, and crashed against his body in a fiery mass. Godzilla snarled, and swatted at a passing fighter, with his claws tearing through the engines like butter.
"EAGLE 27 TO BASE, I'M FALLING!" The pilot cried, and his plane spiraled, with the wrecked engine smoking and burning as the fighter streaked towards the deck of a US navy vessel. The jet crashed into the ship, and a ball of fire lit the deck. Godzilla let out a thundering roar, and glowing spikes of energy flashed around his body.
Planes exploded, and fell into the sea, with the pilots burning to death. A Japanese ship erupted in flames, and a cannon on the deck of the Detroit exploded. Godzilla's spines flashed, and a stream of red-orange nuclear fire burst out of his maw, immolating a pair of attacking battleships on the spot.
Navy crews on nearby vessels panicked, and the captains began calling a retreat while radioing the land. Godzilla turned towards the battleships, even as the gunfire settled, and let loose with another dangerous blast of radioactive energy, tearing both ships apart within seconds.
A howl filled the air, and the sound rolled through Godzilla's head, prompting the irradiated beast to shift his attention. He saw a large turtle flying towards him, with flames shooting from places where legs would be, and the titanic leviathan recognized the face of his old enemy as their eyes met.
Gamera dipped, and roared at the prehistoric behemoth, his yellow eyes flashing with energy. The turtle flew closer, and Godzilla's spikes exploded with flashes of energy.
He opened his mouth, and the glow on his dorsal plates became brighter, as Godzilla fired another wave of his atomic breath. The concentrated beam of orange-red nuclear energy struck Gamera, and the air exploded as the turtle soared past the King of The Monsters, crashing into the sea below.
An imposing roar left Godzilla's vocal cords, and water exploded into the air around the spot where Gamera fell. The titanic turtle rose again, and stared at his prehistoric nemesis before spitting out a fireball towards the towering dinosaur's face.
Godzilla's head ducked, and the beast swam towards Gamera with a snarl. The orange-glowing patches upon the beast's body flashed, his dorsal plates convulsed with energy, and the mighty kaiju unleashed a pulse of nuclear energy that lanced Gamera, prompting the turtle to pull back.
For his next move, Godzilla fired another dangerous beam at his nemesis, and Gamera shrieked as the blast of nuclear fire seared the side of his torso and part of his shell.
"RAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRR!" Gamera shrieked, and the ocean erupted in flames as the turtle took flight, with shards of his flesh and shell falling into the water. Godzilla shot another wave of nuclear energy at his escaping foe, but Gamera was already out of range.
The turtle, with his head and limbs within his shell, spun across the sky as he flew away from Godzilla's position. Down below, the radioactive beast watched Gamera's flight, with a gleam of near satisfaction in his orange eyes. It seemed he had that fire-breathing turtle on the ropes without much of a fight, prompting Gamera to retreat.
But this was not the end of their battle. It was only the beginning... of the end.
Godzilla dove back into the ocean, vanishing beneath the waves, and all that was left in the area were the smoldering wrecks of fighter jets and battleships, along with traces of steam and hints of radioactive fallout.
