Chapter 8

Nuclear Terror in Hokkaido

September 4th, 2004, 1:08 P.M.

It was Tokyo all over again, but on a far worse level.

Fear-stricken citizens fled for their lives, seeking refuge underground or elsewhere, as the dark-orange radioactive behemoth of a dinosaur advanced through the heart of every street within the city. Buildings quaked uneasily on their foundations, and exploded in piles of rubble as Godzilla smashed through them.

Alarms wailed across Hokkaido, and security forces moved in to aid the evacuating masses. Explosions shook the city, and Godzilla's dorsal plates crackled, and glowed every couple of minutes.

Cars swerved, and trucks screeched to a stop before tipping over. A trolley exploded beneath Godzilla's heel, and a beam of orange fire erupted from his mouth, igniting a third of the surrounding city in a ball of flames. The behemoth's shadow fell upon the closest of provinces, sending chills down the backs of those who saw his visage.

"Fires are breaking out everywhere!" A reporter yelled, "Godzilla is smashing Hokkaido, and turning the city into a sea of flames. Hokkaido is becoming a radioactive hell! Are we doomed? Are we on the edge of nuclear annihilation?!"

"SKREEEOOOOONNGK!" Godzilla thundered, and he tore through a tower, reducing the entire structure to smithereens.

His tail swiped through a pair of buildings, knocking them both to the ground, and the streets cracked with each step the beast took. Smoke billowed into the late morning sky, and immolated buildings burned to piles of ash within moments. Godzilla stared upon the besieged sect of civilization, his eyes burning with a powerful, radioactive sense of rage.

News helicopters hovered above the area, with global news reporters attempting to cover the drastic events extensively. Across the world, from America to China, people watched with dread as news stations broadcasted the terror of the irradiated beast ravaging Hokkaido.

And yet, the destruction unleashed was not Godzilla's only aim. There was one thing on his mind, and it was Gamera. The fire-breathing, flying turtle beast wasn't very far, and, with his instincts, the titanic King of The Monsters had a feeling he knew where his rival was currently positioned.

It hadn't been too long since their previous battle, and as the behemoth's power increased, Godzilla could feel that the final showdown with the Atlantean giant was near. He wouldn't let that gargantuan reptile escape again, as this time, the battle would see the end of the not-so invincible turtle.

Letting out another menacing cry, Godzilla marched forward, beyond the streets of the city with piles of rubble in his wake. Mount Fuji lay in the distance, spewing a hint of smoke into the sky above, and more structures collapsed under the feet of the advancing, radioactive monstrosity.

Rumbling jet engine sounds carried across the sky, and JSDF-model fighters streaked towards Godzilla, having launched from an air base near the area. The airborne combat unit swooped past the behemoth, and pivoted around, ready to make their attack run on the rampaging monstrosity from the depths.

Guns blazed to life, and bullets whipped around Godzilla. The orange patches on his body flashed intensely, and the monstrosity glared at the attacking planes with a snarl of fury.

"Keep your distance, and watch out for his attack patterns." A pilot instructed his partner.

"NUCLEAR BLAST AT 3:00!" Another pilot shouted.

The planes swerved, and Godzilla fired a blast of his heat ray, which lit the sky. The air force unit churned, and dove towards their foe once more. Steady fingers tapped the firing buttons, and the guns roared intensely, as the bullets flew around the titanic beast.

A few bullets struck the side of Godzilla's cheek, only to leave very little marks on his face, and they fell towards the ground at his feet. He stared at the passing fighters, with irritation and fury glinting within his eyes, and a JSDF fighter swooped over his head as the pilot shot at Godzilla with all that he had.

"Squadron leader!" A youthful pilot told the lead flight pilot, "Our weapons have left no mark upon this guy, and the Geiger Counter is picking up a strong spike in radioactive fission within Godzilla. Further attacks could set off a potential chain reaction!"

"Watch out! He's charging up another attack!" Achi Okato yelled desperately.

Godzilla's dorsal plates flashed like Christmas lights, and a beam of nuclear fire shot from his mouth. A nearby jet fighter was caught in the blast, and exploded in moments. Godzilla swiped at another plane, causing it to explode as his claws tore through it.

"Fall back! FALL BACK!" Squadron Leader Tasi cried with terror.

Another blast of radioactive energy swallowed Tasi's plane, and the pilot screamed before the flames engulfed him forever. The remaining pilots cried out with fear, and attempted to flee, only for Godzilla to shoot them all down with a pulse of nuclear energy from his body. The remnants of the fighters crashed into the ground, and burned to slag.

Undeterred, Godzilla marched on, crushing trees in his path, and smashing whatever was left of the eradicated jet fighters with his eyes upon the peaks of Mount Fuji.
