Chapter 10
Battle at Mount Fuji
September 4th, 2004, 1:16 P.M.
Leaves shuddered, and fell from the tree branches, birds retreated high into the sky, and the ground shook every couple of seconds. A few trees smoldered, and dust rose above the field for a moment.
Godzilla pressed forward, with the enemy in his sights, and every fiber within the beast was brimming with intense waves of nuclear energy. His dorsal plates crackled, and the nuclear reactor in his heart went into overdrive. His footsteps increased, and the beast raised his head to the sky, ready to confront his foe in one final battle.
This time, Gamera was not about to escape, and the turtle had soaked in a large quantity of fire from within the crater of Mount Fuji. The beast approached, and a howl carried across the surrounding region.
Far above, a United Nations satellite hovered over Japanese airspace, kilometers above the Mount Fuji region, and its camera zoomed in to catch Godzilla and Gamera's inevitable battle. The satellite recorded everything, and sent the photos back to NASA, as well as various military bases across the globe.
Anxious eyes were fixed to the scene, with few people unable to look away. It would be the monster battle of the ages, but not for the reason most folks hoped it would be.
Godzilla's maw opened, and the King of The Monsters howled, "SKREEEEOOOOONNNNK!"
Gamera circled the beast, and the titanic dinosaur observed him. The turtle flew around Godzilla, as if surveying his foe for an opening, and his head perked up, with his yellow eyes fixed upon the immensely irradiated behemoth from the depths.
The ground around Godzilla's feet smoldered, with hints of smoke rising from his footprints, and the beast's pupils glowed with intense energy. Godzilla's dorsal plates flashed once more, crackling madly with great power, before spikes of energy shot forth for a brief moment as the titanic reptile let out another monstrous bellow.
With each moment, Godzilla's temperature continued to spike, and his nuclear output crept higher by the second. The grounds of Mount Fuji were becoming a radioactive hot zone, ground zero for the final clash, and it would seem that no stone would be left unturned.
Both monstrous combatants continued to size each other up, and the universe closed in around them. Time had no meaning for either Godzilla or Gamera. It was just the two of them, and their final confrontation.
Godzilla made the first move.
Clawed fingers slowly closed, and the spikes on his back flashed again. He glared at Gamera, his mouth opening, and a burst of nuclear plasma streaked from Godzilla's maw towards the fire-breathing turtle like lightning. Gamera swooped out of the way with a snarl, and threw himself towards the King of The Monsters.
Godzilla ducked, his tail striking his foe, and Gamera shrieked before plummeting into the earth. The ground quaked to the force of the turtle's impact, and Godzilla stepped forward, his footfalls shaking the terrain, while snarling with disdain at his opponent.
His spines flashed brightly once more, and he fired a charged nuclear blast upon Gamera's back. The turtle shrieked as the radioactive plasma tore into his shell, and Godzilla let out a triumphant bellow. He raised his foot, and slammed it down upon his opponent's back, attempting to pin down the ancient turtle.
And yet, Gamera was far from done. He retracted into his shell, and took flight, with his takeoff nearly knocking Godzilla over. Godzilla fired another wave of radioactive fire, and Gamera swerved, avoiding the attack, before the nuclear dinosaur spat another great blast of atomic energy.
Well-connected to fire and radioactivity, Gamera sensed Godzilla's incoming attack, and levitated himself higher, avoiding the blast at the last possible second. He swerved around to face Godzilla again, and landed on the ground. He stood tall, and breathed slowly, summoning every ounce of fire within his being.
He spat a fireball towards Godzilla, who ducked his head again, and the tail came up. The fireball slammed into the top of the great kaiju's tail, and was deflected back in Gamera's direction in a hot minute.
The glowing ball of fire crashed into its sender's face, and the turtle stumbled backwards in a near-blind haze. He glimpsed Godzilla, who was advancing towards him, and the King of The Monsters raised his claws as he bellowed again. Gamera stood straight once more, prepared to defend himself against the incoming attack, and Godzilla slashed at him.
A sharp pain tore at his chest, and the ancient Atlantean-crafted beast screamed as a hint of green blood poured out. Godzilla lurched forward, and his head slammed into the turtle's tusked face, disorienting the nearly-unprepared fire-breathing beast from Atlantis.
Godzilla then stooped low, and grabbed Gamera from both sides. He lifted him up, fired a beam of nuclear fire into his torso that seared a chunk of the turtle's body, and chucked him towards the base of Mount Fuji. Gamera collapsed to the earth, landing flat on his back, while his torso smoked and oozed green blood.
"AAAHHHRRR!" Gamera looked up at Godzilla, and spat out a flurry of fireballs towards the nigh-powerful titan of nuclear destruction. The towering dinosaur approached Gamera, and his head moved from side-to-side, evading the fireballs that came at him.
One hit his chest, and the orange spots upon Godzilla's body glowed more intensely than ever. His spines were gleaming madly, with more pulsations of nuclear energy emanating from within the Big G, and the prehistoric leviathan arched back before his maw swung open, with a large burst of radioactive fire flying past Gamera's face.
The beam of nuclear plasma slammed into the side of Mount Fuji, and an explosion shook the volcano, which started a chain reaction. More smoke rose from the crater, and, within moments, the peak of Mount Fuji was exploding with fire as lava shot into the sky. Godzilla roared, his body flashing with intense levels of radioactive power, and Gamera roared back.
