Chapter 11

G-Minus Zero Hour

The Pentagon, Washington D.C, USA.

September 4th, 2004. 9:24 A.M.

Phones rang, and monitors blinked madly in the observation room as everyone in the military staff surveyed the unfolding situation. On the big screen, a red dot flashed as a countdown timer with a skull symbol displayed the time that remained until Godzilla's explosion of radioactive power.

General Benjamin Martgood stood next to Colonel O.J Robert-Hander, watching the footage of Godzilla's battle with Gamera near the erupting Mount Fuji, and a red light illuminated the room for a moment as an alarm went off.

"Another spike!" Someone shouted, "He's in the deeper red zone."

"We're nearing Max-Omega!" A secretary reported, "Radiation is going through the roof."

"Pull all drones out of the area!" Martgood ordered, "Make sure that people are in a safe bunker!"

"I got the commander of the JSDF on the hotline, General!" Colonel Rosk informed, holding up a bright red phone for General Martgood, "He and his forces want your take on what action to take in this moment."

"Tell 'im to get to a fallout shelter!" The general told Rosk.

"Are you sure, sir?" Rosk asked.

"I'm sure. But we don't know how intense the fallout will be..."

"Godzilla's spiking again!" Someone on the other side of the room yelled, "We have a minute-and-a-half left!"

Lava oozed forth from the crater, and another burst of fire shot up into the sky above Mount Fuji. Gamera lumbered towards his prehistoric enemy, regardless of his current condition.

He snarled, and slashed at Godzilla, who countered the impending attack, and the King of The Monsters moved inward with a snarl. Godzilla stooped and bit into Gamera's shoulders, drawing a trace of green blood, and the turtle howled in pain.

The titanic dinosaur pushed against hie foe, and Gamera toppled over onto his back. Looming over the fallen reptile, Godzilla roared, and fired a bright red beam of nuclear plasma upon his gargantuan rival's shoulder. Gamera shrieked as his arm exploded in fire, and he could feel his nerve endings melt in an instant.

With his shoulder burning in pain, the beastly turtle let loose the fiery strength he had left, and began to levitate into the air. Godzilla snarled, and grabbed Gamera, preventing him from making his takeoff.

"GYAOOOOOOON!" Godzilla bellowed, and he slammed the turtle onto the ground. Gamera raised his head, and stood up. He turned around, and spat another fireball upon Godzilla's face, nearly surprising the kaiju. Gamera roared, and grabbed his foe's shoulders, with his claws digging into the dinosaur's radioactive flesh.

In that moment, the bright orange patches on Godzilla's body were flashing intensely, and spikes of nuclear energy flashed around the King of The Monster's body, burning into Gamera. The turtle could feel a build-up of radioactive energy, and his eyes lit up intensely.

Godzilla's power had reached it's peak, and he was about to let it loose. However, the ancient reptile was ready for what was to happen.

He summoned all the fire and radioactivity that was within his being. Gamera locked eyes with Godzilla as the latter's dorsal plates lit up, and the great behemoth spat out another beam of fire that ripped off a chunk of Gamera's shell.

Gamera snarled in pain, and Godzilla roared one last time as his radioactive power hit max.

Mount Fuji rumbled intensely, with the lava flooding down the slopes, and a bright light surrounded Godzilla along with Gamera. A second later, the former exploded, and the latter vanished with his foe in a ball of flame. Trees burned to ash, and a giant fiery mushroom cloud rose into the air above the region.

Smoke and fire rose into the sky, Mount Fuji shook, and it's peak ruptured violently. Miles away, the citizens of Hokkaido scrambled, and headed for the emergency shelters. The village near Fuji erupted in flames, and people cried as they were caught in the effects of the blast.

The skies blackened, with ash and smoke filling the air. The ground rumbled, and fires spread around the area, burning the nearby forest into large piles of ashes that shifted and blew away with the sharp wind generated by the great explosion. The boiling lava from Fuji's crater ceased flowing, even as it continued to bubble and boil.

In the region of Mount Fuji, it seemed that the world had come to an end. The mushroom cloud continued to rise, and fires burned upon the ruined region, reducing charred plant life to ash in moments.

A great silence filled the area, and no living creature stirred. Moments later, a drop of black liquid hit the ground, followed by another drop, and great black radioactive rain began to pour from the darkened heavens. The sun gleamed faintly through the clouds of ash, and a few birds passed overhead, tweeting solemnly as if they were in mourning.

On this day, history would never be the same again. Radiation filled the environment, and nothing else remained. Where beauty resided, a great nuclear wasteland lay upon Japanese soil, a great tragedy in the pages of history.

Just then, the cloud of smoke began to shift, and the bodies of fire became bigger. Flames rose into the air, and swirled around. The fires rolled into the mushroom cloud, and something took form within the radioactive dust and mist.

A shadow appeared, bearing a titanic, monstrous form. The fires became brighter, and larger, and the ground quaked more intensely than it already had. The mushroom cloud of nuclear ash faded away, and a bright light illuminated the wasteland.

The swirling inferno continued, and soon, the fires vanished into the air. Moments later, the earth shook, as a towering beast emerged with bright yellow eyes, and a shell with rows of dorsal plates upon it. It's skin was rough, and scaly, with patches of green. Fangs rose from the back sides of it's lower lips, and the titan stepped forward on large hoof-like feet.

Where Godzilla and Gamera had clashed, a new monster had arisen, formed from the fire and radiation the two beasts had wielded. The behemoth stared at the sky, and it's mouth opened. The spikes on it's shell lit up, and the kaiju bellowed a thundering roar.

On this day, Gajimera, the fire-breathing turtle-dinosaur hybrid, was born...
