Note: After realizing that Kaiba would potentially end up in an inevitable divorce if he ever got married, this angst idea came around.
Major spoilers for a lot of things, but I had to get this all out, hehe.
A Place
Tears in her eyes, Cassie packed her bags.
"No, Cass, please…" Seto begged his wife as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Please, don't go. Don't leave. I can do better, please…"
She had every right to elbow him, but she didn't. She wanted to feel the warmth of his hand again.
Hannah and Will were at boarding school, so she didn't have to worry about them at the moment.
Good thing too, otherwise they would have seen this.
She should have listened to Cousin Tristan, and everyone else.
They warned her of how much of a bad guy Seto could be, but they caught up after she graduated from law school in America and got married.
How could she have fallen in love with a guy like him?
They met, fought evil together, and seen so many mystical things.
But her husband finished it off all by himself.
She was a lawyer. She could represent herself. She had the means to be independent.
Even without the Kaiba wealth, she could manage on her own.
From this day on, she wasn't going to take a cent from him.
She touched the Key of the Clow pendant on her chest. It was Grandmother Sakura who encouraged her to see the good in people, even Seto after she had an argument with him when they were teenagers. Cassie remembered the story of how Grandmother Sakura and Grandfather Syaoran met and fell in love.
Grandfather went from a stiff angry guy to a more rounded person thanks to Grandmother.
Then again… people can never really change.
Grandmother Sakura was so happy for them both when Seto and Cassie got married.
It would shatter her so much if she ever saw this scene from the afterlife.
Tears in her eyes, she turned to look at Seto. "I just can't take it anymore, Seto…"
The cold, distant person he always was was always there since she met him.
Suitcase in hand, she began to leave the mansion and into the car.
As she drove out of the driveway and stopped to park to have a breather, she curled against the steering wheel.
No matter how hard she tried and despite what happened that night, Seto would always have a place in her heart.
