Survivors
Many months had passed for both the Children of Millennia and the ThunderCats. New and exciting things continued to happen in the Egyptian kingdom and on Third Earth as both heroic teams continued working together to keep both of their worlds peaceful. On Third Earth, the mutants still often stirred up trouble by terrorizing the local inhabitants as well as looking for new ways to bring both heroic parties to their downfalls. In addition, after Lion-O's anointment, Mumm-Ra had slowly recovered and he also looked for new ways to try to eliminate the ThunderCats and the Children of Millennia only to end up being defeated time and again. The mummy and the mutants were relentless, though, and would stop at nothing until their enemies had been conquered. In Egypt, the royals didn't have the same magnitude of trouble. Frankly they would still just deal with petty criminals as well as dangerous monsters. The ThunderCats would still often help out, though.
Since Queen Mystery shared the news of her pregnancy with her friends, she had not been able to visit the ThunderCats as often as she used to and that was the way it had to be. No one wanted any harm to come to her or the child she was carrying. She would only come to visit when she would receive word that it was safe. Now the queen was six months along in her pregnancy and her belly had expanded to show it. Of course, Pharaoh Atem and the others would still help their allies when needed. In addition, Lion-O and the rest of the ThunderCats would visit their allies in Egypt on a regular basis to make sure the queen was staying safe and healthy.
Now the heroes were all together in Cats' Lair. Lion-O was still in his bed, a nightmare playing in his mind. It was the same nightmare of watching his beloved home planet being destroyed. He manages to escape to the ship commanded to him and the other ThunderCats. While escaping, he sees three other Thunderians trying to escape. Lion-O begs Jaga to wait, but his mentor tells them they can't. Their ship takes off and the nightmare begins to fade.
Lion-O woke up, taking deep breaths to calm himself. It still saddened him, knowing not all of the Thunderians managed to escape. Suddenly, Jaga's soul appeared, informing Lion-O that the countrymen he saw in his dream didn't die. They managed to escape to Third Earth. But if he wanted to know about these survivors, then he had to consult with Cheetara and ask her to use her clairvoyant powers.
Snarf came to Lion-O's room with a tray of food. "I've brought your breakfast, Lion-O."
But the lion's mind was still focused on the nightmare. He suggested to Snarf, "Thanks, Snarf, but why don't you give it to Queen Mystery instead? She needs it more than I do."
Snarf trilled in response. "I guess when you put it that way, it's a fair point. She is eating for two, after all." And he went back to the dining room. It was true. Queen Mystery's hunger had significantly increased, causing her to eat more since she became pregnant.
Lion-O met up with his comrades in the council chamber and told them of his nightmare and how Jaga informed him that there were other Thunderian survivors here on Third Earth. He asked Cheetara to use her ability of clairvoyance to find them. "I know how tough these trances are for you, Cheetara, but you must try," Lion-O pleaded.
Cheetara didn't protest. "If Jaga says that it is vital, then I will try." She begins calling on the visions to come to her. In the visions, she sees the same Thunderians from Lion-O's nightmare. Jaga was right. They did survive. They were rescued by a spaceship piloted by two Berbils. The ship ended up taking damage as Thundera finally self-destructed. As such, the Berbils had to set a quick course for Third Earth. They arrived, but didn't make it to the Berbil village. Instead, the ship landed on a small island in the middle of the ocean.
"We have to find these guys," Joseph declared.
"How?" Kisara asked. "We don't have a boat."
"And the ThunderTank doesn't have the range," Tygra added.
"Panthro and I have been working together to make new vehicles and they're almost finished," Seto announced.
"We'll still have to take action," said Lion-O. "Kit, Kat, take Latias and Latios and scout the fishing villages. See if you can find a boat large enough to find that island. Atem, this may be too dangerous for you and Mystery. I think it would be best if you returned home to your world." He spoke to Mystery directly, saying, "It's nothing personal, Mystery. I just don't want any harm to come to you or your unborn child."
"I understand, Lion-O, and I agree," she replied. "Still, let us know when you find your fellow countrymen." She looks at her partner. "Jirachi, I want you to stay and help Lion-O in my place."
"Yes, Queen Mystery," he said, saluting. He perched himself on Lion-O's shoulder and the lion gently tickled his cheek. With that being settled, the ThunderKittens mounted on the dragon twins and begin scouting the beaches and the pharaoh and queen make the return home.
The ThunderCats wouldn't be the only ones looking for their countrymen. Mumm-Ra received the information as well by looking through his cauldron and sent his pet to search for them. It was a ghoulish dog named Ma-Mutt. Ma-Mutt left the Black Pyramid and began his search.
It was just as Cheetara said. There was a remote island far from the continent and the Thunderian survivors had made a temporary home there with the Berbils who rescued them. However, these particular Thunderians were people the Children of Millennia met once before back on Thundera. It was the white tiger Bengali, the puma woman Pumyra, and the old lynx Lynx-O, who unfortunately became blind due to an accident he had before escaping from Thundera. Ma-Mutt came to the island and spotted the Thunderians.
On his way back to the Black Pyramid, Ma-Mutt saw the familiar pirate ship of the Berserkers. Their captain was the maniacal Hammerhand. The Berserkers were about to attack Ma-Mutt until the dog exhaled a noxious fume at them. Through the fume, a transparent image of Mumm-Ra appeared.
"I require your services," Mumm-Ra was saying. "There are some aliens on an island nearby that Ma-Mutt has located; cat-like creatures. You will deliver them to me."
"What will you give me in return?" Hammerhand asked.
"You will receive gold," Mumm-Ra offered. He knew that the Berserkers had a lust for riches and gold and would never pass up such a reward. So the Berserkers agreed to go to the island and capture the Thunderians.
From the island, Bengali saw a ship coming towards them. The Berbils, Ro-Bear-Bob and Ro-Bear-Bert warned them that it was the ship of the Berserkers and they told the Thunderians to hide. The Berserkers fired their cannons even after they stepped ashore. They charged in and began attacking while capturing the Thunderians and the Berbils.
As they were forced onto the ship, Bengali, Pumyra, and Lynx-O were chained to the oars and forced to row the ship while the Berbils were forced to cook for the Berserkers.
The ThunderKittens searched the beaches while riding on the dragon twins, but there were no large boats available. Everyone was out to sea. They noticed a large ship on the inlet and went to get a closer look. Keeping hidden, they saw that it was the Berserkers' ship. They hurried back to Cats' Lair to alert their friends.
At Cats' Lair, Seto and Panthro were making the final adjustments to the new vehicles – the ThunderClaw and the Hovercat. Wilykit and Wilykat made it back and informed their comrades that they found the Thunderians they were looking for. They were prisoners on the Berserkers' ship and the ship was docked at Plun-Darr Cove. Lion-O decided to take the lead with Jirachi beside him while the others would finish working on the new vehicles.
Lion-O and Jirachi made it to Plun-Darr Cove at nightfall. "They are Thunderians," Jirachi whispered. "And they look familiar, like I've seen them before."
"And there's Hammerhand," Lion-O added.
"And the rest of his crew," said Snarf's voice.
Jirachi and Lion-O were surprised to see him. "Snarf?" the lion asked. "What are you doing here?"
"I wasn't going to let you guys face that bunch alone," said Snarf.
"Maybe you can help us by standing guard while we help rescue the Thunderians," Jirachi said.
"Okay, but if you're not back in five minutes, I'm coming after you," Snarf said.
So Jirachi used Teleport to transport himself and Lion-O to the ship. They quietly crossed the deck and approached the prisoners. Bengali looked and said to Lion-O, "You look like a Thunderian. And your friend looks familiar."
"I've seen that little one before too," Pumyra agreed, "with a young girl with white hair."
"That's my partner Mystery," Jirachi whispered. "And don't worry. We're here to rescue you."
"Mystery," Pumyra whispered. "I've heard that name before."
Unfortunately, they weren't quiet enough. Hammerhand spotted Lion-O and Jirachi and he and the Berserkers began attacking them. Lion-O raised the Sword of Omens and sent out the signal to call on the others. At the same time, Jirachi began working on freeing the Thunderians from their shackles. However, the rest of the Berserkers seized them.
"Jirachi," Lion-O cried.
"Surrender, or I give the word and your friends are finished," Hammerhand threatened.
"Run, Lion-O," Jirachi cried. "Run, save yourself!"
Lion-O nodded, promising to come back. He wasn't abandoning Jirachi. He knew he could take care of himself and use Teleport to escape. He dived into the ocean and the Berserkers began firing their cannons into the water, causing it to heat up.
"No, Lion-O," Jirachi cried.
"Go, little one," said Bengali. "Go and help him."
"Do not worry about us," Lynx-O insisted. "Your friend needs you more than we do."
Jirachi knew that they were right. "I'll come back for you," he promised, and he teleported away. "Lion-O," he cried, keeping airborne above the ocean water. The water was scalding hot to the touch. "Oh, Lion-O!"
Suddenly, a beam of magic attacked the ship. It was the Hovercat and Panthro was riding in it along with Seto and Mahad. Mana was riding on Latias, who was flying beside them.
The Thunderians saw that it was another ThunderCat and they recognized him right away. "We've seen him before on Thundera," said Bengali. "It's the mighty Panthro. And we also saw that girl on the dragon too. She's one of the Children of Millennia. And so are the men riding with Panthro."
"The Children of Millennia," gasped Pumyra. Now it was coming back to her.
Because their weapons had been dismantled, the Berserkers had no choice but to take evasive action full speed ahead. The ship began rocketing out to sea.
Panthro was in pursuit until he saw Snarf out on the shore. Mana also saw Jirachi out in the ocean. They agreed to help their friends. "What's going on, Snarf?" Mahad asked.
"It's Lion-O," Snarf cried. "He and Jirachi are in the boiling sea!"
Mana began calling Mahad on her communicator. "I see them, Master Mahad," she relayed. "I'm going to try to get them out."
"We're coming, Mana," he said. "Stay where you are." Panthro began driving the Hovercat over to her position. Mana began using her magic to pull Lion-O out of the ocean. Seto used his magic to carry him back to shore. "Lion-O, can you hear me, Lion-O?" Mahad asked.
"I'm all right, Mahad," he replied.
"It looks like Hammerhand and his crew have a lot to answer for," said Panthro.
"They have the Thunderians," said Jirachi. "We tried to rescue them, but we were overwhelmed."
"We tried too," said Mana, "but when we saw that you guys were in trouble, we had to help you."
"We will rescue them," Mahad promised. "For now, we need to heal you." He began using his magic to cool Lion-O down and bring his body temperature back to normal.
