My Heart Dances

Lion-O's mind was too full of the things he talked about with the queen. He went to the courtyard and leaned against a tree as he looked at the stars twinkling in the sky. It was true. Looking at the night sky can make one feel relaxed. The lion even thought he saw a few shooting stars pass on by. Light and darkness, he thought to himself, natural opposites, but also exact equals. Maybe it's not hard to imagine Cobalt and Millennia having once been friends. Their people still certainly try to be friends despite their differences because of that matter.

Jaga's soul appeared, as though he could sense Lion-O's thoughts. "The legend is true, Lion-O. The Great Goddess and the Dark Lord were once friends."

"I wonder what changed all of that," Lion-O mused.

"No one really knows, Lion-O," said Jaga, "but sometimes pride can be wounded even for a God and Goddess and even they can let their differences get the better of them."

Lion-O looked at the sky. "When it comes to the Gods, there are so many mysteries no one in this or any other world can comprehend." He began thinking about Luna again. "Jaga, I know you warned me to be careful of Luna, and while I know more about her, I can't help but wonder, is there really any legitimate friendship between her and Queen Mystery? After everything I was told tonight about the secret of Millennia and Cobalt as well as their people trying to find ways to be friends with each other because of that, I guess I can't stop thinking about it."

"Naturally," Jaga replied. "Luna is a mysterious woman. As you learned from the queen, Luna has suffered so much over the years. It has created an imbalance of light and darkness inside of her that can be unstable at times. Because the queen sees Luna as her friend, she seeks to bring out the good she sees in Luna. But as I said before, Lion-O, Luna is like a double-edged sword; she is neither friend nor foe."

"Yes, Jaga," Lion-O replied. "While she appears before Queen Mystery as a friend, she is a willing ally to Bakura and Max as well. And once Bakura and the queen will meet, they'll be forced to fight on behalf of the Gods."

"It cannot be prevented, Lion-O," Jaga informed him. "Queen Mystery accepted that it would be her destiny when she made the choice to bond with the Millennium Star. Now her child will be born into the same destiny."

To Lion-O, it seemed unfair. But as Jaga pointed out, it's one of the many things that cannot be prevented, let alone changed. And regrettably, the lion would really only be able to do so much on his end, despite his promise to protect the royal family. Quietly, he said, "I know Queen Mystery is the heiress of Millennia and Bakura is the heir of Cobalt and that they're fated to fight each other, but I also wonder, in regard to the legend of the Knights of Light and Darkness, if those two warriors exist, maybe they can stop all of it."

"That will have to be for fate to decide," said Jaga. "But the Knights of Light and Darkness do exist." Lion-O looked at him in bewilderment. "But they won't know it until they meet each other and realize how important they are to each other. Then and only then will they awaken. And who knows? Maybe they will be the ones to decide how it will all turn out in the end instead of Bakura and the queen." And his soul disappears.

"Jaga, wait," Lion-O pleaded. It seemed he would never get used to this, Jaga always leaving when he would still have questions. So the Knights of Light and Darkness do exist, he thought to himself. He wondered who they were. He also hoped that they would be able to stop Bakura and Mystery from fighting each other once they would meet; maybe even help them to find a way to live together peacefully.

Out in the desert, Luna was looking at the city as she was standing in the night. It seemed she had the same idea as Mystery about being out in the night air and finding comfort in it. Luna also thought of the queen as she looked at the palace, then down at the Crystal Ring on her finger. When they were young, they made a pact. The Crystal Rings they wore symbolized the friendship between them. At first, Luna wanted it to be a scheme just to gain Mystery's trust, but as time passed, she wondered if she really did have feelings for Mystery and considered her a friend.

Even now, thinking about it tormented her; especially with what was to come. Mystery was about to gain so much more and it was Luna's destiny to destroy her by taking everything she loves from her. As such, Luna could not bring herself to be happy for Mystery. No, she did not want to be happy for her. She pitied her for delighting in these blessings of being queen, living in riches, and having a family. Yet the pity she felt was out of love more than out of hate. That was why it hurt Luna knowing it was her destiny to destroy Mystery and everything she loves. It wasn't a matter of jealousy. No, Luna wasn't jealous of Mystery for being happy while she wasn't. It was just destiny.

Luna began singing to herself. I see you in the distance and I see us as we are

Neither friends nor enemies, yet connected by the stars

I see you in confusion and it leaves me so annoyed

My heart dances, oh, but not for joy

I thought I could do better, but I never did know how

Maybe it was my destiny, the one I had to have now

The things we love completely, we are fated to destroy

My heart dances, oh, but not for joy

She paused as she turned away, a tear falling from her eye, then she continued, It's easy to be certain that I know this heart will fall

Much harder to be certain of your own

It moves me and inspires me and it drives me to the wall

And it leaves me so excited, but alone

My heart dances, oh, my heart dances, but not for joy

She finished her song and dried her eyes with the back of her hand. It seemed whether or not she considered Queen Mystery her friend, Luna would just feel hurt. Yet something inside was telling her she should not cast aside whatever love she may have for her. Since they opened their hearts to each other, they had been through a lot together. There had even been times when Luna had genuinely laughed and smiled with Mystery. Somehow those memories would always come back to Luna no matter how much she wanted to get rid of them.

She wasn't going to let any of it distract her, though. Like she mentioned, she had a destiny and she couldn't let Bakura know of what she was thinking or feeling. That was why she often distanced herself from him. After regaining her composure, she returns to Kul Elna.
