A/N: I know I have another story going, and I'm still going to update it probably more than this one, but I needed something else to focus on to get back some motivation for the mutant story.
If you all enjoy it I will keep it updated regularly.
DISCLAIMER: THIS WILL ONLY LOOSELY FOLLOW YOUNG JUSTICE AND IT IS FANFICTION SO PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POINTING OUT EVERY DIFFERENCE FROM THE SERIES!
Also I was inspired to write this by AlfyreGree's "The God of Heroes," which I highly recommend reading as it's now one of my favorite Fanfics. This story may seem slightly similar at first, but trust me it will be much much different.
The battle with Kronos had given Percy a new definition for the word 'war.'
Everything he had witnessed and gone through prior to the battle to defend Olympus was now nothing more than simple skirmishes.
He had seen deaths, he had even killed... more than he liked to think about. But now... now it all seemed like nothing more than schoolyard fights compared to the devastation the titans had brought to New York.
Everyone he loved... everyone he cared for... he watched them die one by one.
The look of horror on Clarisse's face as she was being crushed by the Lydian Drakon was permanently seared in his brain.
Thalia's screams as Hyperion burned her alive would echo through his mind forever.
Hades' face as they both watched Kronos crush Nico's neck like a toothpick showed Percy what it truly looked like to see someone distraught.
Countless demigods on both sides killed by each other... by their own family, and worst of all everyone relying on him and his commands... dying from his commands.
Now it had all come down to this.
The son of Poseidon standing alone against the titan of time for the final battle of the war.
Percy struggled to catch his breath. His hands shakily gripped Riptide with every ounce of his strength as he used it to help pull himself to his feet.
Annabeth was laying on the side of the throne room, blood coming from the gash in her head.
Percy prayed to every god he could think of she was still alive, but he didn't have the time to check.
"It's no use grandson," Kronos voice boomed across the throne room causing Percy to wince harshly. Every second his voice grew more powerful, his strength increased, his speed became more impossible to keep up with, "Soon I'll shed this retched mortal flesh, and not even my children will stand a chance against me."
Percy felt adrenaline pumping through his system, but it was doing little to numb the pain at this point.
His body was covered in tiny cuts and scratches from the Titan's cursed blade, and he was beginning to feel the effects.
It felt as if his soul was being forcibly sucked out of his body through every little drop of blood he shed, and he wasn't sure how much more he could take before it gave out altogether.
"Has anyone ever told you you're annoyingly arrogant?" Percy managed to gasp out.
Kronos stared at him blankly before letting out a booming laugh.
"If only I could've had you as a son instead of those pathetic little godlings. Inches from death and you still have the gall to insult me." Kronos in Luke's body smiled at Percy, who was trying his best to not draw attention to the shocking revelation he just had... Annabeth was no longer laying on the side of the throne room.
His heart pounded harshly in his chest as he used the moisture in the air and her body to try to find her. It took a moment to figure out where she was, and when he realized why his heart stopped.
"LUKE! I know you're in there," Time slowed for Percy as Kronos whipped around and knocked the cap off the invisible Annabeth behind him.
"Oh no dear, you're horribly mistaken," Kronos said with an evil smile stretching across his face, "That brat's soul was absorbed into mine quite some time ago, and I must say he was an excellent source of fuel. You wouldn't believe how much hatred he had in him."
Annabeth backed up shakily, "N-No... I know he's there somewhere! LUKE!"
Percy pushed harder against Kronos powers slowing him down, but found they merely increased until he could barely move.
Kronos spun around to face him and Percy saw something he would never forget. That glint in his eyes, his broad smirk, and most of all the foreboding feeling it caused to swell in his gut.
"You hurt me deeply by continuously rejecting my mercy and grace grandson. I offered you a place by my side, a place where you could rule above everyone else, and you denied me. Was it for the gods? For your fellow demigods? Or was it simply for this utterly stupid bitch?" On his last word, Kronos spun around quicker than Percy could process, only for time to slow for Percy entirely.
He couldn't blink, couldn't turn away, he could only watch at Kronos' blade swiped through the air torturously slow.
In reality, the blow happened in milliseconds, but Kronos ensured Percy got to witness it for several minutes.
Annabeth's eyes were locked in his with a look of shock etched across her face.
The blade slowly sliced through her hair strand by strand.
Percy pushed harder against Kronos restraints as tears began to stream down his face.
It slowly connected with her neck, breaking her tanned skin with no resistance.
Percy felt his heart wrenching as he was forced to helplessly watch Kronos' sword separate every millimeter of skin.
By the time the blade was halfway through, his soul felt like it had been ripped to shreds.
When her head finally flew off and hit the floor, his mind had shattered into a million pieces, and something inside him snapped.
Riptide dropped to the floor as Percy loose a bloodcurdling scream of pure, unmatched anguish.
"KRONOS!"
Percy forcibly snapped out of Kronos control, and felt a new power flow through him. The familiar tug in his gut had grown to fil his whole body with an excruciating pain.
He stepped towards the shocked titan and felt the entire throne room shake as his foot met the floor.
"I'm going to kill you."
The demigods voice cut through the throne like a knife despite barely being a whisper, and the titan of time felt he may have made a mistake in killing the daughter of athena in such a way.
"I'm. Going. To. Kill. You."
Percy's eerily silent voice whipped through the throne room in such a tone it actually made the titan flinch back.
"I," Percy's voice boomed now as he took another step forward. Kronos nearly lost his balance from the shockwave that came from his foot hitting the ground.
"Will," Another step, and the winds in the throne room began to whip around them violently.
"Kill," The titan pushed against the winds and stepped towards the son of Poseidon with a snarl.
"YOU!" Percy launched forward, using the wind to push him faster than he had ever moved on land before.
His fist began to vibrate as he focused on his new source of power from tapping into his father's earth-shaker domain.
As his fist approached, the titan swung his sword in a wide arc knowing the demigod had no chance to dodge.
To his utter horror, he realized the demigod had no intention of dodging to begin with.
Time slowed for them both as Percy's fist drew closer and closer, while Kronos' blade did the same.
The connections happened simultaneously, and what happened next was nearly impossible to explain.
Luke's head snapped to the side with a sickening crunch. Instantly, his body began to shake violently as the blow was forcing Kronos' soul to be banished in an explosion of power.
This, however, did nothing to stop his sword from slashing through Percy's chest and directly into his heart.
Hero's soul cursed blade shall reap
Percy watched as his soul was pushed outside of his body and thrown back from Kronos' explosion.
A single choice shall end his days
Then... he felt nothing at all.
Olympus to preserve or raze
Percy found himself floating in a void.
Nothing but suffocation darkness surrounded him on all sides.
"Persues Jackson," Three all too familiar voices hissed out at once, "Hero of Olympus."
Slowly the three old ladies formed in front of him with sympathetic looks on their faces, which Percy ignored.
"Y-you... you ungrateful BITCHES!" Percy screamed at them, as tears began to pour down his face.
"What did she do to deserve that? Why would you give her that fate after all she's done for you?!" Percy was on his knees now as he thought of Annabeth and what happened to her.
"Sadly child," The Fates said as one, "We are not to blame for that." Percy looked up at them disbelievingly.
"The battle that occurred was not what we had planned. Your cursed unpredictable sea nature, along with Kronos' power... it changed things."
Percy stared at them in horror. Were they saying... was it his fault she...
As if reading his thoughts, the Fates winced.
"Nobody is at fault for the daughter of Athena's fate besides Kronos, whom you have assured will never be capable of stepping foot on the earth again."
Percy let out a sigh of relief at that, but it did little to ease his pain.
"However," the fates said hesitantly, "Your soul was ripped from your body and effectively forced out of the universe you reside in... we were unable to prevent that, but we were able to pull you from the endless void you would have been sucked into for eternity."
"So... I'm not stuck in this void?"
The fates looked at each other with even more hesitation before the middle one shook her head.
"No, young hero. We hate to force this upon you after all you've done, but we require your assistance elsewhere now."
Now Percy was really confused, but luckily they continued to explain.
"Chaos, the creator, didn't simply make your universe. She also made a handful of others to keep herself entertained, and we are the maintainers of yours and one other. This other universe exists outside of our control now due to... human evolution, but the Greek presence is strong enough to allow us some influence and foresight."
Percy did not like where this was going.
"We fear the coming threats there may be too much for the next generation of heroes to handle alone. They'll need help, Perseus."
Percy shook his head and backed up from them.
"There's got to be someone else. Please I-I've been through enough... seen enough." He watched the Fates look at him with pity, and knew what the answer was.
Once a hero, always a hero.
"There will be some changes, Perseus, there is a vessel being constructed for your soul as we speak, but it won't be ready for several months. Until then, we'll allow you to rest here and learn of this new universe to prepare." Percy opened his mouth to reply when suddenly the Fates began to fade from view. He watched as they frantically scrambled around, and he could feel the power struggle occurring in the realm.
"No... NO! PERSEUS!"
That was the last he heard from them as they disappeared from view, and the panic began to set in.
Then, however, a new voice laughed a booming chuckle that vibrated the void around him somehow.
"Oh grandson, how I'm going to enjoy this parting gift to you."
Percy's breath quickened to near hyperventilating rates. It couldn't be... surely he couldn't reach him here.
He felt something around him straining, and heard Kronos let out a hum of disappointment.
"It appears those meddling old hags are stopping me from physically manifesting myself... how disappointing," Percy suddenly found himself sucked into his own mind somehow, standing in the middle of Central Park as the sound of battle filled his ears, "I can however influence your mind." Kronos gleeful voice echoed around him.
"P-PERCY! HELP ME!" Percy's head whipped around as despair filled his heart.
Thalia was lying on the ground reaching out to him, Hyperion's foot pressing into her back and engulfing her in flames.
"IT BURNS! OH GODS PERCY, PLEASE HELP ME," Thalia's pleads for help turned into incoherent screams as Percy watched helplessly. He couldn't move... oh gods why couldn't he move.
He hadn't been there for her battle with Hyperion... by the time he arrived all he was met with was the last of her screams as the Titan burned her alive... he had been powerless to help her.
What he was seeing now wasn't what he remembered. He didn't hear her screaming for him... he didn't watch her burn for so long, and he certainly never remembered seeing anything but fear on the Titan's face as he arrived surrounded in a hurricane that could rival his father's.
Now the titan was smirking at him. An arrogant, manic, taunting smirk just like... just like... Kronos?
As if responding to his thoughts, the image of Hyperion and Thalia melted away to reveal a smiling Kronos.
"Di Immortales this is going to be fun! I believe straining myself so hard to reach you like this will likely make me fade, but I just can't help myself!"
Kronos grinned manically and laughed uncontrollably.
"According to the Fates you'll only be here a few months, but I believe my control over time could influence that some... now," he said with a clap of his hands as the scene shifted to the throne room, where Annabeth stood behind the manic Kronos, "let's have some fun!"
Percy gasped as he woke up.
He frantically glanced around to see what torturous memory Kronos was going to use this time, only to realize he hadn't ever been wherever he was.
His breathing slowed and hope crept into his heart.
After what felt like years of mental torture, Percy knew Kronos could only manipulate past memories... he couldn't create whole new environments... right?
Something didn't feel right at all, which didn't help his uneasy feeling. He groggily flexed his hands, and looked around.
Years of battle reflexes ingrained into his brain allowed him to quickly assess his situation.
The first thing he noticed, was that he was in some kind of glass tube leaned back against a metal table of sorts, but when he caught a glimpse of himself in the reflection of the glass he instantly tensed up.
He didn't look anything like he remembered, in fact the only similarity from before was his sea green eyes and jet black hair.
His body was much more muscular than before, his jaw more chiseled, and he felt a little taller as well.
Not only that, but he was wearing some weird glowing white suit with a strange 'S' symbol on the chest.
Before he could assess his condition further, the glass walls around him dropped away with a hiss which snapped him to attention.
His eyes frantically scanned the area as he took in the surroundings.
As he did, he couldn't help but feel this was another trick from Kronos. The walls seemed to be made of flesh and even pulsed slightly as if beating with a heart. Surely only he could conceive such a horrific place.
Panic set in as his eyes locked onto three strange men in front of him, who seemed like they belonged in one of the comic books he had read growing up. (In this story, the DC universe didn't exist at all in the PJO Universe, so he knows nothing about anyone here)
Something in his head was telling him these were enemies. It was like a slight itch or a whisper in tje back of his mind.
His hand itched towards his pocket to draw Riptide, when he realized whatever he was wearing didn't have any pockets.
He focused in on his targets to plan his attack.
There was a red haired teen about his age in an odd yellow and red skin tight costume... with a lightning bolt in the middle?
The other two weren't any less strange.
A dark haired boy, who couldn't even be fifteen yet, in a red and black costume with a cape and a black mask covering his eyes. Instead of a lightning bolt, this one had a weird looking 'R' logo.
Lastly was a slightly older looking dark skinned teen with short blonde hair and a series of tattoos on his arms.
Percy noticed the sword handles on the last ones back, and instantly pinned him as the biggest threat.
Without thought he launched himself at the boy, with a speed that he didn't realize he had, and pinned him to the ground with ease.
He began to throw strikes at the boys face, shocked at the strength behind them and further shocked by the resistance he was being met with.
Suddenly both his arms were being restrained, or the two others attempted to at least. Their attempts actually made Percy freeze at how... weak they were.
"Hang on Supey!" One of the boys said in a strained voice.
"We're on your side!" The other said with equal difficulty.
Percy threw them off roughly and stood, using one leg to pin the first boy to the ground.
"I don't know what the hell kind of insult 'soupy' is," Percy said in mild confusion, both at their strange insult and the way his voice sounded. It was his own voice, but something was... different. Deeper maybe? He couldn't tell and didn't have time to dwell on it, "but I definitely know you're not on my side. Everyone on my side... everyone is..."
Memories of all the death he was forced to witness over and over again came rushing back to him, causing him to stumble back and grip his head in agony as if to force the thoughts away.
The boy he had pinned wasted no time in capitalizing on his distraction and kicking him in the chest, sending him flying back with a shocking amount of strength.
He groggily stood up just in time to see two taser prongs sink into his chest causing him to brace for the shock.
Instead, he merely felt a light tingling sensation. With shock he grabbed the cables the prongs were attached to and used them to jerk the caped wielder up close to him where he proceeded to throw him on the ground with a growl.
"I don't know where I am or who you are, but-" He was cut short by a loud cry in front of him.
"ENOUGH!" The tattooed enemy from early was lunging at him, one of his swords drawn and... water coming out to form a hammer. Percy nearly laughed out loud at the sight. Attacking a son of Poseidon with water?
As the weapon drew closer, Percy held up his hands and willed it to stop mid air.
However, it didn't slow down in the slightest. He pushed harder and felt the same familiar tug roaring in his gut at the action. Right before it made contact, he succeeded, but was brought to his knees by the pain and exhaustion it caused.
"Aqualad, stop!"
Percy looked up to see the caped kid standing between him and the stunned blonde warrior now identified as Aqualad.
"Aqualad?" Percy said with a chuckle, "That supposed to be some kind of superhero name or something?"
He groggily stood to his feet, and noticed they were no longer trying to attack him, but still stood cautiously in front of him.
"Look kid," the youngest one said with authority, making Percy snort out in amusement, "we're trying to help you escape!"
Percy eyed them all cautiously, but didn't seem to detect any lies.
"Escape what exactly? It looks like we're inside Tartarus' pinky toe right now." He watched their faces grow confused and remembered the Fates saying the Greek world wasn't as prominent here as he was used to.
"Tatar sauce's what now?" The red-haired teen spoke up. The other two ignored him as the kid in the black mask spoke up to respond to Percy.
"This is the Cadmus lab and you... well you're Superboy, or project KR... you were grown here from Superman's DNA." Again, the words of the Fates came rushing back to him about how there was a vessel he would inhabit that was being prepared.
"Swear it on the Styx." He wasn't even sure the Styx still existed here, but there was only one way to find out.
"What sticks are you talking about?" The red haired one said in confusion.
"I believe that he is referencing the oaths sworn on the River Styx from ancient mythology," Aqualad said hesitantly, "We mean you no harm, and everything Robin said is true. I swear it on the Styx."
Percy relaxed as he heard the thunderous boom sealing the oath, while the others looked at the ceiling hesitantly.
Despite knowing they weren't here to hurt him, something still told him they were enemies, but it was almost as if the thoughts were being forced into his head to attack them.
"Yo Robin," the red haired teen whispered with worry, and Percy was surprised to hear him so clearly from where he stood, "that was just a coincidence... right?" Robin shook his head slowly.
"I really don't know KF," the boy responded. Percy ignored them and decided a bit of an explanation on his side was in order now.
"So you said I was grown here in this lab, right?"
Robin winced at his words as he nodded, probably thinking they sounded a little insensitive in hindsight.
"That's not entirely true," Percy said, causing them to look at him with confused faces, "I mean this body was definitely grown here but I'm- well my soul at least, is from another universe." They all glanced at each other cautiously as he stuck out his hand with a shit-eating grin.
"Percy Jackson, demigod universe traveler." To say Percy was shocked when Aqualad gripped his hand with a smile would be an understatement.
"Kaldur'ahm, but you may simply call me Kaldur, I am an apprentice of my King who many refer to as Aquaman." Percy nodded at him and let go of his hand as the red-haired kid stuck his out.
"Wally, but when we're suited up I'm Kid Flash, I'm sure you've seen me out there keeping up with the Flash," his cocky grin faded and his head tilted to the side, "Well I guess if you just got to this universe then you probably haven't seen that... but you will! Trust me, it's all over the news."
Percy let go of the enthusiastic Wally's hand and stuck it out for the caped boy to shake, which he did.
"Robin."
Percy stared at him blankly before laughing.
"Simple and straight to the point, I love it! Gods I wish I could've seen you say that to Kronos!" They obviously knew nothing about his ranting, so he continued on, "I gotta say you guys took this whole 'universe traveling soul stuck in a laboratory made clone's body' thing pretty well."
Robin shrugged and walked past him nonchalantly.
"Stranger things have happened." Percy gawked at his statement while Kaldur and Wally nodded in agreement, "I can't unlock the doors anymore... I have a feeling they're rallying the troops outside. Superbo- I mean Percy, do you think you can pry it open?"
Percy laughed loudly and shook his head. " I said I'm a demigod... son of a god, not an actual god." Robin looked at him strangely and shrugged his shoulders.
"Humor me."
Percy walked up to the doors and began to grip at the crack in them. That's when he noticed it.
The faint tug in his gut that was a million times easier to access than his connection to water had ever been, almost as if it was constantly present and he had to consciously not tap into it.
He was almost stunned silent as his fingers ripped through the steel like it was wet mud and flung the doors open with almost no effort.
On the other side were a group of guys in lab coats with strange little grey monsters Percy didn't recognize on their shoulders.
He did, however, recognize that one man was wearing an armored helmet, and that the monster on his shoulder was trying to force its way into his mind similarly to the feeling he had before telling him the three boys were enemies.
He could hear the little creatures whispering... he could feel it trying to worm itself into his mind and erode his memories causing him to clutch his head in agony.
"STOP THAT!" Percy's roar tapped into that hidden little ball of energy he discovered during the battle with Kronos, causing the tunnel to shake violently. Before the man could blink Percy had already snapped his neck and crushed the monster on his shoulder into the ground.
The other little gray creatures fell to the floor and began screeching in agony as the men in labcoats backed up and started to run away.
"Not cool man! What the fuck was that!" Percy turned to see Robin staring at him in shock and fear. Aqualad looked at him similarly, while Kid Flash was trying to hold in his lunch.
"That little gremlin was trying to control me with its mind, and obviously that guy in the ridiculous helmet was working... with... it." Percy trailed off as he noticed their pissed faces and battle ready positions.
"I don't know how you guys do things here," Percy said with a steely voice, "but after four years of fighting just to survive you learn it's kill or be killed," his shoulders slumped ever so slightly and his eyes were flooded with so much emotion the other teens couldn't make eye contact with him, "it doesn't make it any easier, but that's just how it is."
Robin spoke of with venom appearent in his voice, "Yea well here we don't commit murder... ever, and if you do it again I won't hesitate to put you behind bars." Percy's green eyes glowed dangerously as he stepped forward.
"I don't know who you think you are but that wasn't murder. We're in enemy territory, and he decided to attack my mind, in an attempt to get me to harm you all might I add, so I stopped his attack. Plain and simple." Percy and Robin stared each other down before Kid Flash interrupted them.
"Sorry to ruin the moment here, but I'm pretty sure that obnoxious beeping is an alarm."
Robin and Percy looked around the room before Robin's eyes narrowed and focused on Percy again.
"This isn't over, we're talking when this is done."
Percy snorted in mock amusement but decided to keep his mouth shut.
The four of them began running through the hallways following a map on Robin's odd hologram computer.
"We're almost to the elevator!" Robin shouted out.
Percy opened his mouth to reply when suddenly the walls started bubbling in front of them.
They all slid to a stop as out of the bubbles stepped three hideous creatures, even for Percy's standards. They were all as tall as laastrygonian giants, but looked like the gray demons from earlier.
Percy tapped deeper into the feeling from before and felt raw strength flooding through his body.
With a thunderous roar he launched forward at breakneck speeds and threw a punch at the monster's head.
He barely tapped into the new well of energy he now possessed, but still sent the monster flying back into the one behind him and sending them both crashing into the wall.
Percy looked at his hands in shock as a smirk stretched across his face.
"We're trying to escape! Not collapse the building on top of us!" Robing yelled behind him.
"You want escape?!" Percy yelled back before grabbing the now unconscious monster and using it like a baseball bat to slam into the other one still standing.
"Definitely superman's clone," He heard Kid Flash whisper behind him. His words sparked more confusion about who exactly this 'superman' was, but Robin was already running past him quickly.
It didn't take them long to finally reach the elevator... except the elevator wasn't there. Instead, just an empty shaft going up as far as the eye could see.
"Sooo we're fucked." Percy said matter-of-factly.
"You should be able to fly us out," Robin said. Percy turned to see who he was talking to, but found them all looking at him.
"Yea maybe I should have specified, I'm a son of Poseidon... flying isn't exactly my thing."
Even as Percy said it, something told him he could fly. He didn't understand why, but it was as if his own DNA was screaming at him that it was possible.
"A son of Posiedon?" Aqualad said in shock, while Robin and Kid Flash just looked confused.
"I didn't mean cause you're a demigod," Robin interrupted, "I meant cause you're Superman's clone. Same way you ripped through those steel doors back there." Percy looked at him hesitantly, and then back at the giant elevator shaft before shrugging.
"Still not sure who Superman is, but fuck it let's try it out." He grabbed Aqualad and Kid Flash in his arms as Robin got on his back.
He walked over to the center of the elevator shaft, crouched down, and shot off the ground with a mini boom.
Percy couldn't help but let out a giggle of joy as they shot through the air.
They had to have been three stories high... five... ten... wait... were they...
"I-I'm falling." Percy said in shock.
Even though he never expected to be able to fly in the first place, it just felt so... wrong that he couldn't now.
Luckily, Robin reacted quickly and used some grappling gun hidden... somewhere on him, to swing them over to the wall where Percy was able to dig his feet into the metal to stabilize them.
Aqualad and Kid Flash quickly jumped out of his arms and onto the wall where they began their ascent.
Percy glanced over at Robin with a look of shock on his face.
"You said Superman can fly... why can't I?"
Robin shrugged and continued his climb, but Percy couldn't shake the feeling he had. The best way he could describe it would be like a son of Poseidon who couldn't breathe underwater. It was just... wrong.
Luckily Percy got them all high enough it didn't take long to finish their climb, and soon they found themselves in the main lobby of the building, where only one man remained.
"Doctor Desmond." Robins said cooly, "We've alerted the League about what's happening here, they're on their way as we speak."
Apparently, that was not the right thing to say, Percy couldn't help but think as the man screamed in frustration and punched a wall.
"I will not be taken out like this! I refuse! You think you can stop me?" He pulled a handful of vials out of his pocket, and somehow Percy's unnaturally keen eyesight allowed him to easily read the words 'blockbuster' printed on them, "Try to stop this!"
The teens all watched in shock as he poured vial after vial down his throat, but that wasn't the shocking part.
That came when his body began to grow and morph.
His skin stretched taught yet simultaneously hung off him as it grew a dark gray tone, as he grew his muscles bulged beneath the surface of his barely stable skin.
Percy watched in horror as he grew larger than Tyson, until reaching near Polyphemus size.
His blood red eyes locked onto Percy and the other teens before letting out a roar that sent shivers down their spines.
"I think you might have made him mad Robs," Percy said cheekily with a smirk.
A/N: Drop some reviews on thoughts for pairings.
Personally, I'm leaning way towards Raven, but Zatanna is another option I considered. If you all have other suggestions feel free to let me know.
