Chapter 2

I grimace, it hurts like hell.

I grab the arm of whoever it is and pull, hard enough to force them to stand in front of me, unless they want a broken arm. I see that it's one of Gally's friends and I twist his arm, causing him to let go and fall to his knees.
"Do you really want Gally to bloody kill someone?" I ask, holdin' him down.

I'm sure his position is anything but comfortable and probably hurts, so he only shakes his head.
"Good that," I say, standin' up and gathering my own friends.

We grab a long vine from the tool shed by the Gardens and, tying it around my waist, they lower me into the Box Hole on the opposite side of Gally.
I see Gally swingin' his arm around, bangin' the girl against the wall. She really is bloody amazing to hold on for so long, I think before realising that she might not be able to hang on for much longer. She gets hit against the wall again and cries out in pain. She looks around and finally sees me. Her face is covered with tears, a few small cuts, and I'm sure there'll be a couple-a bruises.
I reach out to her and gently say, "Don't worry, I've got you."
She takes my outstretched arm, not letting go of Gally with her other hand. I wrap my other around her, pulling her closer and she eventually lets go of Gally and starts clinging to me. I look up at the faces of my friends watching this scene from above and I say,
"Okay, pull us up."

I feel us start to rise as the vine gets pulled up jaggedly. When we reach the top, the guys pull her out first and then me. I untie the vine around my waist and walk over to the girl to see if she's alright. Before I get a word out, she nearly tackles me with a hug and starts crying. She thanks me and I freeze for a second, Guys are never so sappy, before I hug her back saying,
"It's okay, you're safe now."
I've never done this before, never been in this situation, I look to Alby with a look asking, What am I supposed to do? He only laughs silently and shrugs shaking his head. I decide to keep hugging her until she lets go.

Eventually, she pulls herself out of my embrace. We lock eyes for a bit, Bloody hell, she's pretty, I think before snappin' out of my trance and sayin',
"Let's get to the Homestead and get you cleaned up."

We go upstairs in the Homestead and I shout,
"Clint, Jeff, you're needed!"
Jeff pops his head out of one of the rooms and says,
"A bit busy at the moment with a broken arm."
Clint pops out long enough to say,
"Yeah, some Slinthead Builder got his arm stuck between two poles that slammed together," then he ducks back into the room.
"Okay, where should we wait?" I ask.
Jeff points across the hall and says,
"That room over there."
"Sure, thanks," I say and head to that room as we hear Clint call for Jeff's help.

Inside the room, the girl sits on the bed and I sit on the only chair nearby. We wait in silence for a bit but I'm itching to get to know this girl and why she's here.
"So," I say, we haven't officially met yet. I'm Newt."
"Yeah, I kinda gathered," she smiles and brushes a piece of hair behind her ear, "I'm Y/N."
I smile too, she's so beautiful but she seems so shy. I catch myself staring and quickly recover,
"Nice to meet you, Y/N. I'm sorry you had to go through that just now. Gally's never done that to anyone. I guess it's because you're the first girl."
"Really? I guessed it might have been like that. I didn't see any girls earlier."
Wow, this girl is sharp as a tack, doesn't miss a thing.
"I know you probably don't, but do you remember anything other than your name?"
She shakes her head, "No, why don't I remember anything?"
I shrug, "Don't know. That's how it was for all of us."

It's quiet for a while, a bit awkward actually. I can't stand it anymore and say,
"After... that whole thing, are you okay?"
"Um, yeah. I think so. But," she gently touches her left wrist, "I did hurt my wrist before you guys pulled me out of that elevator thing."
"Oh, what happened?"
"I tripped over something."
"Yeah," I still feel a bit weird and I feel like I'm not makin' great conversation, "the Box is bloody dark."
She chuckles and looks down at the ground. I chuckle too, This is bloody stupid, I say to myself, realising I might have a crush on this girl I've just met.
Thankfully, Clint and Jeff walked in at that moment, talk about saved by the bell.
"Hey guys," Clint says, "what seems to be the problem?"
Y/N looks at me and doesn't say anything so I start talking,
"This is the new Greenie, Y/N. She tripped over something in the Box and hurt her wrist."
Clint looks at her, says, "Nice to meet you," and asks to see her wrist.
