Ash Ketchum, world-renowned Pokémon Trainer and newly crowned World Champion, stood on the balcony of his home in Pallet Town. The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. Pikachu sat on his shoulder, tail twitching idly.
Ash sighed. "So... now what?" he muttered.
Six months had passed since his triumphant battle against Leon in the Master 8 tournament. The crowd's cheers, the victory parade, and the constant interviews were exhilarating—at first. But now, the once-distant dream was his reality. He had reached the pinnacle of the Pokémon world, and yet, a restless itch nagged at him.
"Pikachu, do you ever feel like there's something more out there? Something we've never seen before?"
Pikachu tilted its head. "Pika?"
Ash chuckled. "Yeah, I sound crazy, huh? Maybe I just need a new adventure..."
Before Pikachu could respond, a strange golden light enveloped them both. Ash shielded his eyes as the ground beneath him seemed to vanish. A rush of wind roared in his ears, and when the light faded, he found himself standing in a wide-open arena surrounded by floating platforms and shimmering landscapes that seemed to defy logic.
"What the—where are we?" Ash exclaimed, spinning around. Pikachu was still on his shoulder, its ears perked and eyes wide.
A cheerful voice broke the silence. "Mamma mia! A new fighter, eh?"
Ash turned to see a short, mustachioed man in a red cap and overalls approaching him. The "M" on his cap was unmistakable.
"Wait... you're Mario!" Ash blurted, eyes wide.
Mario grinned and gave a little hop. "That's-a me! And you must-a be new around here, huh?"
Ash blinked, his mind racing. "Hold on. This doesn't make any sense. Mario's a video game character! How are you real? And where even are we?"
Mario scratched his head. "You're in the world of Super Smash Bros. It's a place where fighters from-a many worlds come together to battle for glory, fun, and a little bit of chaos!"
Pikachu jumped down from Ash's shoulder, its cheeks sparking slightly. "Pika!"
Mario knelt down to Pikachu's level. "Whoa-ho! What a cute little guy! I think you'll fit right in here!"
Ash frowned. "Fit in? I didn't agree to this! How did I even get here?"
Mario shrugged. "Eh, nobody really knows. The Master Hand pulls the strings around here. Sometimes he brings new fighters to spice things up."
Before Ash could ask who or what "Master Hand" was, a voice boomed from above. "New fighter detected! Prepare for initiation!"
Ash barely had time to react before the ground shook, and a holographic display appeared in the air. It showed his name, a silhouette of him holding a Poké Ball, and the words "New Challenger Approaching!"
"Oh no, no, no. I'm not ready for a fight!" Ash protested.
Mario laughed. "Don't worry, kid. I'll go easy on ya!"
The arena lit up, and suddenly a countdown began: "3... 2... 1... GO!"
Mario dashed forward, leaping into the air with surprising agility. Ash, still stunned, barely managed to dodge as Mario unleashed a flying punch.
"Whoa! Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu's cheeks crackled before releasing a bolt of electricity. Mario dodged with a graceful backflip and threw a fireball in response. Ash ducked, feeling the heat as the ball whizzed past his head.
"Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Ash commanded.
Pikachu zipped forward like a yellow blur, striking Mario and sending him skidding backward. Mario quickly recovered, pulling out a glowing red hammer.
"It's-a Hammer Time!" Mario declared, swinging it in a wide arc.
Ash yelped. "Pikachu, get back!"
The hammer's swing barely missed as Pikachu retreated to Ash's side. Ash clenched his fists, adrenaline pumping.
"Alright, Mario, two can play at that game! Pikachu, Iron Tail!"
Pikachu's tail glowed white as it leaped into the air, slamming down with force. Mario blocked with his hammer, the clash sending sparks flying.
"Nice move, kid!" Mario said, throwing a thumbs-up.
"Thanks! But we're just getting started!" Ash replied, a competitive grin spreading across his face.
Mario leaped to a higher platform, tossing a barrage of fireballs. Ash commanded Pikachu to zigzag through them, closing the distance. The two clashed again, trading blows with increasing intensity.
After several minutes of heated combat, Mario called out. "Alright, alright! That's-a enough for now!"
The arena's lights dimmed, and the countdown timer disappeared. Mario approached Ash, brushing himself off.
"Not bad, kid. You've got some real skill."
Ash wiped sweat from his brow. "Thanks. You're not too bad yourself for a plumber!"
Mario chuckled. "You're gonna fit in here just fine. Come on, let me show you around."
As they walked, Mario explained more about the world of Super Smash Bros., its inhabitants, and its purpose. Ash listened intently, the initial confusion giving way to excitement.
"So, this is like... a whole new world of battles?"
Mario nodded. "Exactly! And-a trust me, you'll meet fighters here who'll really push you to your limits."
Ash grinned, clenching his fist. "Sounds like the adventure I've been looking for."
