Flashback/Dream/Narration
July 4th, 2010 - Sunstone City, WA
To understand what I am about to tell you. I need you to do one thing for me. Just one thing please. I need you to believe in the impossible. Living in a world as crazy as ours, that should be really easy considering the world we live in.
Anyway, you ready? Good, you see that guy over there. No, not that one on the sidewalk eating that hot dog. And no not that one sitting on the sidewalk with his phone in his hand, watching who knows what? I mean that guy, floating in the air holding that car over his head.
The man in question, holding the car above his head, descended gracefully as his muscles bulged as held the weight easily. This man stood tall at 6'0, his powerful Godlike frame a testament to the incredible strength coursing through him. His clear, rich caramel brown skin glistened, complementing the low cut fade that framed his handsome face with a square, chiseled jawline with a cleft in his chin. His eyes, a warm shade of molten chocolate burned with a fierce determination, reflecting the hope he felt for the world, the hope that he could be a symbol for the people of his city and the Earth, just like him. Just like Superman.
The foundation of the suit is a sleek, form-fitting black bodysuit, almost like a second skin. But this is no ordinary spandex - the material has a distinctive chainmail-like texture, giving it a unique design almost alien in a way. Accenting the black base with black boots are strategic pops of electric blue. The chest, shoulders, and abdomen area all feature this vibrant hue, with the centerpiece being an 8-pointed star emblem that glows with an inner blue light. A golden outline gives the symbol an eye-catching, almost regal quality. Extending from this blue central panel, the arms of the suit transition back to black, covering his muscular limbs down to his hands. There, the fingers and palms are sheathed in fingerless blue gloves, also rimmed in gleaming gold. Finally, a high collar in the same black material as the rest of the suit frames his head, with a subtle gold edge tracing the neckline.
Who is he, you may ask? Well that guy is me. The world knows me as Charge but my friends and my family know me by my real name, Cedric Harvey. To the people of Sunstone City and the people of Earth, I'm a guardian of the innocent. I'm simply a guy who wants to do the right thing just like him, just like Superman.
Now I know you might be wondering how did I get here? Let's start at the beginning. And I mean the very beginning…. when my mom met my dad.
(!)-(!)-(!)-(!)
18 Years Ago - Somewhere in Texas
Meanwhile, in Texas, a duo dressed in camouflage uniforms drove along the road next to a forest in a black pick up truck. The driver of the vehicle, an African American male with clear, brown skin and espresso brown eyes. He had black hair cut into a taper fade with a beard that seemingly faded into his fade. The passenger of the vehicle, a beautiful, majestic African American woman with mocha brown skin and brown eyes. She had black hair up in a tight bun.
You see that beautiful woman, that is my mother, Kendra Cade. She's my rock, she's the sole reason that I'm the hero I am today. I owe my entire life to her. And that man that she's in the car with that's her partner, Eric. She never really talks about him much. I don't know guy, but he was there so I guess he matters to this story.
The car ride had been silent so far. Both individuals had been tired from their busy days at ARGUS.
(I know ARGUS wasn't in Young Justice but this is an AU so pretty much everything I do at this point is not canon.)
ARGUS, Advanced Research Group Unitted Support, a government agency created by the President, created with the sole purpose of monitor the activities of metahumans, "superheroes" and "supervillians' and prepare reports to the President and the United Nations. ARGUS for so many years had been a secret to the general public. It was off-books but most of the people that worked for the GOD were government officials or members of the military who were just assigned to that division.
"I can't wait till we get home so I can lay down and go to sleep," the driver said in a dry, husky tone.
"Tell me about it," the passenger said as she turned her head to look at her partner.
"So any plans over the break?" he asked
"Just to sit at home and crack open a six-pack."
"Yeah that sound like a good idea," Eric said with a chuckle.
You see this is the part where my mom's life changed forever.
"What the hell?" Kendra ursed as a sudden roar shattered the peaceful ambiance. The ground trembled beneath their feet, and before they could react, a massive ship descended from the sky, crashing into the earth with a thunderous impact.
The force of the landing sent shockwaves rippling through the ground causing Eric to lose control of the wheel and drive off the road. As the pair struggled to regain their bearings, their hearts pounded with a mixture of fear and curiosity.
"You alright?" Eric said, chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath, his eyes wide. Kendra simply turned to look at Eric nodding her head as her heart nearly pounded out of her chest, a mixture of fear and curiosity coursing her veins as she gripped the door handle, knuckles a shade brighter with tension.
She put her hand on the door handle and pushed the door open. She stepped out of the truck, grabbing her flashlight and service pistol from the truck. Eric turned and saw this and quickly rushed out of the truck himself grabbing the same items. He couldn't let her go at this alone.
"Are you crazy? We don't know what that ship is, we should just call the DEO and allow them to handle this," said Eric trying to be the voice of reason but Kendra wasn't having it and just rolled her eyes moving in closer to the ship, gun drawn with a flashlight in hand.
"If this is a threat to the global security, wouldn't you want to be the one to stop it?" Kendra said as Eric let out an exhale. And before he could protest anymore Kendra marched forward leaving him to simply shut up and followed her forward into danger.
She carefully marched forward as the dust settled, their eyes locked onto the peculiar pod that had disrupted their peaceful drive. It rested amidst the undergrowth, its sleek and otherworldly design a stark contrast to the natural surroundings. They paused momentarily in their tracks, giving each other a brief gaze as if they were asking for permission from one another to move on. Kendra nodded and they both took a deep breath, almost simultaneously and stepped forward.
The pod, released a hissing sound as soft glow eliminated from within as the hatch slowly opened, casting an ethereal light upon their faces and the environment making them both stop. Their breath was caught in their throats as a man slowly rose up groaning as he had a hand on his side. He had his back to them and from what Kendra thought was a angel sent from the heavens.
The man stood tall, extremely tall probably 6'4 or 6'5 with a darker, ebony hue adding to his already powerful, muscular statuesque aura. His build gave him the look of an adonis was if he were a greek god chiseled out of stone. And the white form-fitting suit suit he wore did only accentuated his toned build. He turned around giving Kendra and Eric a sight of his face.
He had a rugged, weathered look that conveyed a lifetime of hardship and experience. A chiseled jawline with a neatly trimmed beard. His eyes were a deep, piercing shade of brown - almost black - that seemed to only bore into the soul with an unwavering gaze. His hairstyle was a buzzcut trimmed very lowly allowing his face to be the main focus.
Now that tall guy, jacked mountain of man, is my father. My alien father, I've never met him before but based on what my mom told me, he was truly something. He was the King of his homeworld, Ryon. I don't know if the planet still exits and I don't really care if it does. But that's neither here nor there, let's get back to the story.
"Who are you?"
"I am Koya Korra, the rightful King of Ryon. What is this wretched plan-" he said as he stepped out of the pod and immediately dropped down to a knee, groaning in pain clutching his side. He looked down towards his side seeing blood seeping from his wound.
And while Kendra's military instincts told her to question and detain the subject and discern if he were a threat to national security, some other instincts kicked, some she didn't know she had from the depths of her being. She took a step forward, her heart pounding in her chest as a newfound sense of protectiveness washed over her.
Kendra's eyes softened as she knelt beside him, her training momentarily forgotten in the presence of the injured stranger who for some reason felt like he was apart of her future. Koya slowly raised his head and locked eyes with Kendra and it was almost like their stories were intertwined.
And that's how my mom and dad met. And then years later, I was born with the last name Harvey, it was the last name he chose to have when he was here on Earth. And then he disappeared. No warning, nothing. He just disappeared from the face of the Earth. But from what my mom said, he had insane powers. Powers that rivaled the likes of the Man of Steel. Super Strength, Flight, Super Speed, Hearing, Invulnerability, X-Ray Vision, Microscopic Vision, Telescopic Vision and his greatest power, the one that separated him from Superman, the ability to generate and convert the energy he absorbed from the Earth' yellow sun into his own energy that he could expand from his hands, eye or any part of his body. Basically he can convert solar energy into his own energy and use it any way he saw fit.
He sounds like the man. And you would think that because I was his son, I would get those same powers right. Nope. Well, I did eventually but I wasn't born with them.
So how did I get these powers? Well let me show you.
(!)-(!)-(!)-(!)
Sunstone City, WA
So I never really told you guys about my hometown, Sunstone City. A city in the southwest portion of Washington near Oregon. The citt was dubbed "The Radiant Heaven" by the city's top 1-percenter, Miles Maverick, the former billionaire CEO of Maverick Industries, a subsidiary of LexCorp. The guys kinda a dick and I'm not gonna lie I was super happy when he was removed as head of the company but that's neither here nor there.
Sunstone Ctiy was huge. A city with a 1,150 square miles radius with a population of nearly 2 million people. The city had sports teams in several sports like Basketball, Hockey, Football, and Baseball. The City was the home of two companies that were mostly responsible for the technological advancements that made our society better. Those companies were Maverick Industries and Futuristic Advancements in Technology and Energy Laboratories or as everyone else called it FATE Labs. The City's main college was Sunstone University or Sun U for short, it produced a lot of college graduates who went on to accomplish wonders. And it was home of the device that emitted enough energy to activate my latent alien gene, The Fusion Reactor.
So without further ado, let's get to that fateful moment where my life changed forever.
"Are you sure that we're not gonna get in trouble?" asked a young 13 year-old boy with caramel-toned skin that had a radiant, healthy glow with a low-cut fade, chocolate brown eyes and glasses.
That 13 year old is me.
"Trust me we're gonna be fine, now shut up and here's some pizza," said a voice making him turn around and gaze at her with a playful grin. This 14-year-old girl stood at 5'4 with a lithe, slender frame. Her skin had a warm, heavenly honey like skin tone. Blonde hair with dark brown roots cascade down her shoulders in soft, sultry curls. Her features for her age were delicate, a small, pert nose, full lips pained in a soft rose shade and eyes that captivate with mesmerizing depth. Her eyes are a rich, chocolatey brown, fringed by long, fluttering lashes that accentuate their striking almond shape.
This woman here. This is Kiera Rosario, my best friend who I can't seem to reveal my feelings for. I can run into burning buildings and run headfirst into battles that I don't know if I walk away from but I can't let her know about a simple little crush. And being a hero didn't exactly make it any easier.
He simply rolled his eyes and took the slice from her grasp and turned his head, setting his gaze upon the Fusion Reactor from a distance. Kiera had snuck them into this construction site that had a good view of the Fusion Reactor so they could see it turn on. And he had to admit, he was afraid of getting in trouble, not the Police but with his mother, a high level ARGUS Agent with enough security clearance to find him damn near anywhere on the planet.
The duo sat on top of a high-scaffold looking over at the reactor.
"Key, I wanted to say thank you for doing this really, I know it's not something that you're interested in," he said as Kiera simply chuckled.
"You're right about that. I'm not interested in this kinda stuff at all but you are and you're important to me so if I have to momentarily subjugate myself to boredom to spend time with my best friend, I'll gladly do it," she said with a wide grin. Cedric chuckled this time as he looked down.
The lights from the Fusion Reactor cast a soft, ethereal glow on their faces as they sat in companionable silence, the hum of the machinery filling the night air. Cedric couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude towards Kiera, her selflessness and unwavering support a constant in his life.
As he listened to her words, a warmth spread through him, knowing that he had someone like Kiera by his side. Her care and understanding were like a shield against the uncertainties that often plagued him, a reminder that he was not alone in his struggles.
Turning to her, Cedric met her gaze, his eyes reflecting a mix of emotions - gratitude, affection, and a hint of something deeper that he couldn't quite name. In that moment, he realized how much Kiera meant to him, not just as a friend, but as someone who had become an integral part of his life.
"Uh- Key?" Cedric said, trying to get her attention.
"Yeah?"
"I-" He was saying until he heard a loud boom, making him turn his head to the direction of the Fusion Reactor.
As the loud boom echoed through the night, Cedric's heart skipped a beat, his gaze snapping towards the Fusion Reactor with a mix of concern and curiosity. The once serene scene was now disrupted by a flicker of uncertainty, the soft glow of the reactor pulsating erratically against the dark sky.
Kiera's expression mirrored his own apprehension as they both scrambled to their feet, the hum of the machinery now drowned out by the sounds of chaos that filled the air.
A beam of energy bolted up into the sky from the Fusion Reactor illuminating the sky brighter than it had ever been before.
"We need to get out of here," Kiera said, moving with a sense of urgency as she started to climb down the scaffold. Cedric seemed frozen in place almost and found himself staring at the beam of energy.
"Let's go!" Kiera said, trying to break his gaze on the beam.
Cedric felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, a wave of energy rippling outward from the beam, caressing his skin with an electrifying embrace. His breath caught in his throat as the world around them seemed to come to a standstill, the air thick with anticipation and the unmistakable scent of ozone.
The world around him faded into a blur, the sounds of Kiera's pleas growing distant as he became lost in the hypnotic dance of light and energy before him. It was then that the wave of energy struck him, a torrent of raw power that coursed through his veins, setting every nerve ending ablaze with an intensity he had never known.
Cedric's body went rigid, his muscles straining against the invisible force that threatened to consume him. A strangled gasp escaped his lips as he felt himself being lifted off his feet, his body suspended in mid-air by the sheer might of the energy wave. Time seemed to slow to a crawl, each heartbeat thundering in his ears as he struggled to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening.
His eyes and skin glowing blue with a bright energy that had an outerworld like feeling to it. Kiera looked on shocked as Cedric dropped to his knees a wave of energy expelled from his body as he dropped to his side unconscious.
"Cedric no!" Kiera shouted as she quickly climbed back up the scaffold and ran towards his unconscious body that seemingly started to glow. She quickly ran towards him and dropped down by his side worried about him.
And yeah, that was the moment that my life changed forever. I was struck into a 6-Month coma and when I woke up, I had powers. And you guys can pretty much get the gist of it. Fast forward 2 years later and my life is about to get a hell of a lot crazier.
A/N: So I'm back at it again this time trying something new and that is to put my OC Charge into the Young Justice universe, so I changed a few things with him to fit this universe. This prologue is just to basically lay some of the foundation if you will with this character. So this is an AU, meaning it's an an Alternate Universe so things that happened in the actual show might or might not happen in this story and some characters who are introduced in this story might not have been introduced in the show or they might not have been introduced as early or as late as I'm introducing. So basically this is going to be very different from the show and I want to make sure that is understood now so I don't have anyone complaining down the line.
And this prologue is the only thing that will be first person POV.
