Spying Into Your Heart

I.

No matter how hard she tried Maddie couldn't understand why she wasn't executed or at least in a jail cell right now. It had been a few days since Ambessa's attack and since then she'd been under house arrest at the Kiramman house. She'd seen Caitlyn only once since then, with her missing eye and the bandages around the wound. Apparently the bullet that was meant for Caitlyn just narrowly missed Maddie's head when Mel reflected it back, however she was knocked out seconds after and missed the big fight. Ambessa was dead and Mel was the next one in line to succeed her, however Maddie knew that there was no way Mel would accept her into her ranks. There was also no way there were gonna let her get shipped off because of the possibility of escape. So she was to stay under arrest, confined in a room that was being guarded day and night, bars on the windows. At least she had a big, comfy bed to sleep on and clean clothes. It was far better then the punishment she figured she would get.

She did try to think of ways to escape, but where would she go to? Ambessa was dead, and there was no way her previous comrades would be able to free either. She was stuck.

The heavy door to her room opened and in walked Caitlyn, now with an indigo eye-patch, and Vi by her side, looking a bit more rested than she had been the last time Maddie saw her. "Maddie Nolen, if that's even your name, there are some questions I'd like to ask you." Caitlyn stated as she stood a good distance away from the bed.

"That is my name, and there's nothing I want to say to you, Commander." Her voice and expression were as cold as they were when she was about to kill her. What could she want? She must have figured out that Maddie was a spy by now, and it wasn't like her boss was a secret either. "But go ahead, do your worst, Noxians don't break under torture. We would rather die."

"Ah, so you are Noxian. Explains your loyalty to Ambessa's cause. What was your mission here? Information? Sabotage? Assassination?" Oh, this was detective mode Caitlyn. Maddie would give her anything too useful but this she could have fun with. She was probably gonna die sooner or later, found guilty by a trail, or no trial, so what was the harm in indulging in a little more of Caitlyn Kiramman?

Maddie hummed, a smirk playing on her lips as she sat on the bed cross-legged and arms crossed as much as her handcuffs allowed. "As secure as your city is information isn't the hardest thing to come by here. With enough money and charm you can get anything you want. Quite dangerous forms of currency if you ask me. Sabotage? Only if it became necessary. Same goes for assassination, and if there was an opening, but well..." She pointed at Caitlyn, one finger then two, and then pressed them against her lips. "Not very hard to find opportunities to kill someone when you give them a few orgasms first." Maddie chuckled as she licked between her fingers.

Her attempt to get under Caitlyn's skin was unsuccessful, she remained neutral. Vi on the other hand was pissed off, a snarl on upper lip as she marched over to Maddie and pulled her close by the front of her shit.

"If you think you can scare me, Vi, it won't work." She was a Noxian, born and raised, not that it was always great, in fact it was more painful than anything but it made Maddie who she was, the spy who fooled one of the best minds in Piltover.

Vi's fist clenched and unclenched before she scoffed and let her go. In the back of her mind she knew that Maddie was trying to rile her up, and it was working. This won't go anywhere if she beat the woman unconscious.

She walked back to Caitlyn's side, eyes softening as soon as she felt fingers brush against her forearm.

"If your plan was my eventual death if I went against Ambessa then why did you keep suggesting it?" Caitlyn asked, her voice a little smaller than before.

That was true. Maddie was always the one who had Caitlyn's back when she was talking to Ambessa. She was always the one telling her it would be okay if she were to tell Ambessa to fall back from Piltover. "A test." Maddie shrugged. "We needed to know how far we could push you. Your mind was always somewhere else, your heart as well. I knew you were full of doubts, that soft heart of yours... there was no way you would be fit to be a Noxian Commander. Not with all your weaknesses." She shifted her eyes towards Vi who chose then to grab Caitlyn's hand. Maddie's eyebrow twitched at how damn easy it was for the two of them when she had been trying to win Caitlyn's affections for half a year. "Whatever information you're hoping for Commander, you won't find it with me. I'm a spy, a murderer. The one you should have concerned yourself with keeping alive was Ambessa, not a lackey like me."

Maddie looked out the window, through the streets visible though the bars placed there. This was her prison, but the way Caitlyn talked to her, treated her wasn't too harsh. Honestly she couldn't complain now.

"How long will you keep me here?" She asked, not expecting to hear anything good.

Vi and Caitlyn shared an uncertain look. They didn't know. They were winging it. It was almost laughable as an interrogation. Maddie knew that Caitlyn was capable of so much more, so why wasn't she doing any of it? It couldn't be that she didn't hate her. Maddie betrayed her, used her, tried to kill her. This felt... like an odd mercy, or perhaps a punishment now that Caitlyn knew she was a Noxian.

"We'll leave you for the day. Should you remember any… important information don't hesitate to call for us." Vi offered her arm to Caitlyn and she hooked hers under it. When she reached for the door knob she missed it on the first try, making her muffle a curse under her breath. Maddie didn't feel bad. She didn't. It was just a mission, one of many, Caitlyn's face was just one of many. So why did she find herself clenching at her shirt, trying to relieve the pain in her chest once she was all alone?

II.

Maddie must have already read every book on the bookshelves at least twice. It had been a little over a month now. A month that she'd become imprisoned. And she still didn't know why Caitlyn wasn't even offering her to Mel to punish?

Both Caitlyn and Vi visited her every day, asking questions, spending time in her room, observing her like she was some kind of… mystery Caitlyn was trying to solve. It got under Maddie's skin.

She'd also noticed that Caitlyn was getting better with co-ordination and spacial awareness. She wasn't missing the knob anymore. She was healing, slowly. Maddie didn't even notice that she smiled at that.

"Is this your idea of punishing me, Caitlyn?" Maddie asked as she laid on the bed, all too casual for a prisoner.

"Punishing you? I think I've made it clear that you are to stay here until we know what to do with you. Not that you've made things any easier. I can't keep the heat off you forever, Maddie, you need to give us something, anything!" Caitlyn grew more and more frustrated with her every day. Good. That's what she wanted. For Caitlyn to be angry at her.

"Letting me live is a punishment." Unknowingly Maddie echoed the words that Jinx once said to Caitlyn. "I don't have any information for you. Whatever you think you're buying time for… it doesn't exist." Maybe Caitlyn just needed a good push. After all the last time she was backed into a corner she became quite a force to deal with. Maddie smirked and closed some of the distance between them. Caitlyn narrowed her eye at her, following her every movement. "Are we doing it again? What did you call it… consolation? Are you keeping me as an outlet? That's very diabolical of you, I don't think your girlfriend would appreciate it."

She saw the muscles in Caitlyn's jaw tense. If she had kept it at that Maddie would have done what she had always done and pushed further.

But of course Caitlyn had to surprise her. "Was that all I was to you as well? An outlet, a means to an end, just another tool in your mission? What we had wasn't... good, I won't deny that, but it was real. You were real to me, Maddie." Maddie hated how Caitlyn seemed to be on the verge of tears. What she hated even more was the urge to make her feel better, to play her role again. She wanted to reach for that feeling and kill it.

"You should leave, Commander." Maddie struggled to keep her expression flat and her tone neutral. There was the barest hint of regret and sorrow there, and half blind or not, it didn't escape Caitlyn.

"Fine, I shall." Maddie turned away before she could make a face that would make her want to stay.

Caitlyn didn't know what to do anymore. She asked the Council for advice, asked Mel, asked Vi, asked ghosts, no one could give her a clear answer.

"Maybe there isn't one." Vi said as she drew patterns on Caitlyn's thighs with her tongue. "I've been with my share of messy women, Cupcake. These things can get pretty damn ugly." She nuzzled her cheek against the warm flesh, "Then again it doesn't get much worse than a murder attempt."

"Should I be worried that you're talking about my murderous ex while eating me out?" Caitlyn giggled because Vi did.

"You started it by telling me she's been driving you nuts and wanting answers. This Maddie thing is really eating you up huh? No innuendo intended." She winked and smirked before diving in between Caitlyn's legs. The sharpshooter tangled her hands through Vi's spiky hair, allowing the pleasure to take her.

However when she could form thoughts and words again she realized... she's only avoiding facing the real problem. Again.

Vi pulled her into a hug, the warmth and safety of her arms providing a better environment for these types of talks. "I can hear you thinking. Share it with me, Cupcake."

"I just... want to know what's in her head, Vi. And she refuses to tell me even though I'm the one trying to keep her alive." Frustrated she curled deeper into Vi's embrace, ear over her heart.

"I didn't really open up to you either when we first me. And honestly if you kept me in that jail cell and only visited me I would have stayed on my toes."

"I'm not taking Maddie to a brothel, Violet." Oh, the full name came out. Caitlyn meant business now.

"Not without me you're not." Vi laughed as Caitlyn smacked her hard bicep. "I'm not saying take her out somewhere, but maybe more freedom around the house. Build up some trust. Under supervision." Trust. Not an easy thing when the last thing that happened when she trusted Maddie was a near execution. But she did see where Vi was coming from.

The next morning they both visited Maddie. She was already awake by the time they arrived.

She almost toppled over with laughter. "You're giving me free roam of your house? Did you lose a bit of brain with that eye?"

Vi took a deep breath to steady herself. No punching.

"Not free. You will wear handcuffs at all times, and there will still be a constant patrol at every possible exit." So it was just expanding her jail cell.

Maddie scoffed. But if she had to spend anymore time just in this room she might lose her mind. "I don't know what you're playing at but it won't work."

III.

Caitlyn might think this was some huge favor she did but all it did was taunt Maddie with the possibility of freedom. Yes, she could go anywhere within the house, she already committed it to memory months ago, there was nothing new for her here.

Books. That was the only real break she got from the monotony of each day. The Kiramman house was filled with all kinds of books for Maddie to get lost in.

At least that was something.

She would sometimes stumble upon Caitlyn working but as soon as she spotted her Maddie would turn heel and leave. Same for Vi when she would have her training session.

Maddie could exist in this house but she wanted nothing to do with the rest of it's residents. No matter how much she wanted to eat those dishes that Tobias made.

"You do a terrible job of avoiding people." Caitlyn walked into the one of the rooms lined with bookshelves and ran her fingers across the spines. "Makes me wonder how you managed to fool me for that long." She kept her tone casual, not hostile.

"It's not that hard when your target gets desperate. You had one goal in mind. You only ever saw me when you needed me." Maddie didn't even look up from where she was reading her book on the big sofa.

"Did I ever see you? The real you?" She walked a little closer. Maddie didn't respond. Caitlyn grew frustrated and ripped the book from her hands, sat herself right in front of Maddie and glared. It was the first time that Caitlyn had gotten that close to her since the betrayal.

"What do you want from me now, Commander?"

"I want to know who it was that I've been sharing my bed with for months." And that was it. The final, honest truth of why Maddie was really still here. "Who are you, Maddie Nolen?" Caitlyn raised her voice but it was dulled by the heavy mahogany and paper and cold stone.

Maddie gulped. She really didn't like this. The way Caitlyn was looking at her. Angry, yes, but also sad. It reminded her of how she would look at her before Maddie made her forget it all for a few hours. Why? No other target ever made her feel like this. She didn't remember them. Their names, faces, voices... eyes. But even now she could close her eyes and remember every little detail she ever found out about Caitlyn.

"Sorry you lost an eye. I always thought your eyes were beautiful. That part was real." When it came to Noxians Maddie was nothing special. Orange hair, soft brown eyes, a face full of freckles, she was as innocent looking as they come. A perfect spy.

Before she could stop herself she reached over and touched Caitlyn's eye-patch, softly caressing the material. Caitlyn flinched away, but only after a moment.

"A real shame." She wasn't faking compliments to get on Caitlyn's good side, not this time. There's nothing to gain from it. Except maybe a silence in her mind. "You know... back home, I was always the runt, a pint-sized softie to be pushed around. Lady Ambessa was the one who saw my potential. She gave orders, I followed them, it was so simple." She chuckled, a sound and a face so innocent.

Caitlyn wanted to ask why the spy was opening up to her but she was afraid that if she interrupted Maddie would stop.

"I liked it when she ordered me to get close to you. Usually my targets aren't that different, all rich, important women, but you, oh, you so smart, so determined, I wanted to know you, the you that you kept hidden from everyone." Exactly what Caitlyn was trying to do right now. "You were a challenge for me, it made every interaction, every night with you so much more interesting. But I still failed to capture you. You were... already someone else's."

"Maddie..." Caitlyn took a deep breath, her heart felt like it was splitting apart. For the first time she felt like she was getting a glimpse of the real Maddie. Someone insecure, lonely, desperate to do a good job so that someone, anyone would want her. It was someone who Caitlyn knew in too many people, and herself.

"It was real for me too, Cait. Not right away, not all the time, not all of it, but there were moments where it was real." She doesn't cry. She doesn't when she says it. Or when Caitlyn hugs her. She doesn't hug back, but she does hear footsteps walking away from the nearby bookshelf.

IV.

It was a little while later that Maddie made her way to the training room where she knew she'd find Vi.

The two hadn't spoken much, but that didn't mean that Maddie didn't have quite a few information about the Zaunite. Some from her own digging, some from Caitlyn. "Had a nice chat with your girl earlier." If she was looking for punishment then Vi was where she could find it.

She heard a punch hit particularly hard but Vi didn't stop. Maddie made her way to her own punching bag, wraps tight around her hands. When she said she was impressed by Vi she wasn't lying. On a purely physical level it was easy to see why Caitlyn was into the brawler.

As Maddie was getting ready to begin her own training she felt a looming presence behind her. She and Vi were very similar in height, but not in stature. Vi was all hard muscle, Maddie was more lean, her body build for quick combat and her skills much more laying in sneaking and grappling than a full on fist fight. Still she had no problem staring Vi down. Vi sized her up and down, studying the spy more closely. Was she always this intense with people she intended to fight? Cause Maddie was starting to feel a little warm in the face.

"I really don't care that you and Cait slept together or whatever. I care about you hurting her." Vi didn't quite sound pissed off, more guarded. But her body language was tense, intimidating.

"I wasn't the one who took her eye out."

"No, but you hurt her. Did you know she still has nightmares about that moment?" That moment. Vi didn't need to say which. Maddie broke eye contact with her, she didn't want to face Vi, or Caitlyn.

Maddie chewed on her bottom lip and shook her head. "I think you're overestimating how much a fling meant to her."

"And I think you're a fucking coward. Everyone mad some bad choices, me, Caitlyn, Mel, my sister, but we're trying to make up for them. My sister… might be dead because she wanted to make things right. Mel is trying to find her brother's murderers, Caitlyn hasn't had a good night sleep despite the doctors telling her to because she wants to be ready to protect Piltover and Zaun whenever they need it, and I'm right there by her side." She shoved Maddie backwards against the punching bag, "And what are you doing? You practically live here and yet you still, somehow, find a way to run from your mistakes."

"You should stop talking like you know the first thing about me. I might have handcuffs on but I can still think of a few different ways to break your neck." Maddie stepped up close to her but Vi didn't back away.

The tension hung thick between them. Until Vi broke it with a dry chuckle. "You're like an angry cat. You look cute, but you're nuts and secretly got claws. I don't know you, Maddie, you're right, but I really want to understand what it is that Caitlyn saw in you."

Maddie blinked rapidly, her mind still stuck on the fact that Vi called her cute.

V.

Who was Maddie Nolen? That was a good question. Unfortunately it was something not even Maddie knew. She was a Noxian, a spy, an Enforcer, a killer, a lover, she was whatever her role needed her to be. But who was she underneath all of that?

The answer sure as hell wasn't in the books she was reading but it was about the only time she didn't have to think about the question.

The Council finally gave up on wanting to get any information out of her, which was good, she could finally stop repeating herself. It had almost become robotic.

Caitlyn and Vi entered her bedroom once again, more relaxed than before, even Caitlyn who now happily smiled at Vi and held her hand perfectly casually in front of everyone. She was showing off if you asked Maddie. Not that she could blame her, who wouldn't want to show off someone like Vi?

"There's some news for you." Caitlyn sat right across from Maddie on the couch, Vi sat beside her, on the armrest. "We still can't let you go home, however you're permitted to move around Piltover and Zaun, if Vi or I are with you."

"And handcuffs?" Caitlyn nodded. They still didn't trust her. Of course not, they probably never will. "Did you… make that request?"

Caitlyn smiled and nodded her head towards Vi, "She did actually."

Maddie's eyes widened and she put the book down. "Oh. T-Thank you, Vi."

"I know what it's like to be cooped up in one place for a long time. It doesn't do anyone any favors. Besides, I meant what I said, I don't know you Maddie, but I think that it wouldn't hurt to know you. You live here, might as well try to get along. And if it doesn't work, well we can always be civil and fight it out." It's the way they did it in Stillwater. It was proven to work. Sort of.

"I don't know." Maddie looked down, withdrawn.

"Maddie, can you-"

"No. I don't know what you see in me. I don't know how you want to know me when I don't even know myself. And the two of you…" She chuckled, bitter and hateful, "You don't know what it's like to play someone every day of your life! For you I was an Enforcer, for someone else I was a librarian, a sectary, a performer, a fighter. You know who you are, and I'm… just a disposable pawn with no real identity or wants."

She didn't know why was approaching her, she flinched away when she felt long fingers wipe her tears away. Oh. When did she start crying? When was the last time she cried?

"Then how about you start by asking yourself what you want." It wasn't fair. Why was she being nice? Why was she comforting Maddie? Why was Vi smiling at them? This had to be a trap.

Every day since then felt a little bit easier. She wasn't on edge when she noticed Caitlyn and Vi in the same room. She wasn't constantly on edge. She didn't flinch when she got a pat on the shoulder from Vi while they were sparring, nor did she have to have handcuffs on when moving around the house.

Caitlyn started asking for her advice on cases. Tobias began leaving out one extra plate of food at the table. It took a lot of courage for Maddie to sit down and eat. It was a silent dinner, but a comfortable one.

When she was doing her nightly reading Caitlyn joined her, they began talking about the books they read, and Vi chimed in from time to time, although she much more preferred to cuddle with Caitlyn during the discussion. Then they started talking about their different upbringings. Caitlyn about her parents and shooting competitions, and friendship with Jayce, Vi about her dad, her siblings, Zaun, and late Stillwater, and Maddie about training in Noxus, moving from place to place, having to carve out a place for herself, and breaking a guys nose because he bullied her first girlfriend.

"And then you got your nose broken by your ex-girlfriend! Ha! Funny how life works!" Vi laughed as she rubbed her cheek against Caitlyn's shoulder. "I always knew you were a badass, Cupcake." She placed a quick kiss on her girlfriend's neck, which made Caitlyn stiffen.

Vi wasn't shy about showing affection towards Caitlyn but she was a little more forward with it, she would gladly shove her tongue down Caitlyn's throat in front of the Council. Which she did. Caitlyn on the other hand was more the kind of person who would hold hands, kiss Vi's cheek, bring her gifts.

Maddie knew to look away when Vi kissed Caitlyn's neck again, harder. Longer.

"You are pretty badass, Commander." She said before taking her book and walking right past the couple. "Have a fun night you two, I'm too tired to watch this."

"Oh. Uh, alright. Good night Madd- ah! Vi! Slow down!" Maddie felt herself blush when she heard Caitlyn's moan, followed by a giggle. This was another thing she didn't understand. She had no problem with anything regarding sex, especially not when it came to Caitlyn, who she did quite enjoy spending nights with.

Why was Caitlyn always the outlier? Maddie threw herself on her bed with a frustrated sigh. When she thought about Caitlyn her heart ached, more and more the longer she stayed here. Caitlyn showed her more kindness than she deserved, more than anyone else ever showed her. Even when they were… together and Caitlyn was in a really bad place she still made sure to take care of Maddie and make her feel appreciated.

Even now Maddie remembered the way Caitlyn felt, how she sounded when she was being fucked, how she kissed her, how her fingers felt. Maddie cursed under her breath when she felt the familiar heat dropping between her legs. How long had it been since she felt pleasure? Honestly she didn't even think about sex since her arrest, but now…

This was her room wasn't it?

She could do anything she wanted.

Maddie's hand dropped down her body, her eyes closed as they came into contact with the wetness there. "Fuck, please… Cait.. I want…"

"I'm glad you're finally being honest but that it my girlfriend you're jacking it to." Maddie jerked up, eyes wide and startled. She saw Vi leaning against her doorway, smirking, while Caitlyn hid her face behind her hand. "I felt bad about not saying goodnight to you but I don't think that's what you need right now."

"Ugh, you have the worst timing." She huffed and wiped her fingers on the sheets, her knees pressed against her chest.

"Lock the door next time." Why weren't they mad at her? Vi seemed more amused than anything and Caitlyn was… coming closer and closer.

The thing was that Maddie wasn't ashamed of what she was about to do. Not at all. But she didn't know why Caitlyn was the first person she thought of in that moment.

"I'm sorry. I thought that by now you'd be… busy." She chewed on her bottom lip when Caitlyn sat down next to her and took her hand. She was surprised when Caitlyn laughed, she wasn't angry with her. "In my defense you never locked the door either."

"No I didn't, you're right." Which was the reason they were almost caught one too many times.

"Caitlyn… you're being too nice to me again. It's confusing." If she was being completely honest, which was hard, she didn't know what was happening right now. But she felt like she was being put on the spot. For what?

She tilted her head to the side when Caitlyn brushed her hair behind her ear. It wasn't really her style to be shy. Maddie was about to ask her what her behavior was all about when she was pulled in the opposite direction by Vi. Who kissed her. In front of Caitlyn. Maddie gasped in surprise and oh… she remembered the taste that hit her tongue.

"What. The. Hell. Vi." To say that she was stunned was an understatement of the millennium. There was not a single person in Runterra more confused than her right now. "What was that?!"

"Cupcake here was about to dance around the issue. I, on the other hand, get right to the point." Vi sat on the other side of Maddie. Now she really was trapped. "For a spy you're not too good with subtly leering at people."

Yes, she looked. She looked at Vi when they sparred, how her muscles moved, how her abs showed when she used the bottom of her shirt to wipe away the sweat of her face, how she ran her hands through her hair. Maddie looked at Caitlyn every time she bent over her desk even slightly, she looked at her legs, her chest, the column of her neck. Lust. That was what she felt. Nothing else.

"Hey, Maddie. Look at me." Caitlyn cupped her cheeks in a way that was entirely too good for a traitor like herself. "I'll ask you again. What do you want?"

There was always a chance that this was a dream. But if it wasn't, if she did… "This." Maddie grabbed Caitlyn by the back of the neck and pulled her into a kiss. Her fingers slowly pressed into the very same spot where the bullet was meant to hit. Only this time it was accompanied by a soft sigh, not a started gasp. She liked this sound better.

It was her who gasped when she felt Vi's hands on her thighs, massaging and squeezing.

"This is real, right?" Maddie asked when her and Caitlyn parted.

"Do you want it to be real?"

"Yes." She wasn't prepared for the way her voice shook when she said that.

"Good girl." Caitlyn whispered against Maddie's neck while kissing it. When Maddie gasped in response she heard Vi chuckle. "Easy, Vi. Let's just sleep for tonight."

The redhead looked at Caitlyn like she stabbed her. "What? Why? Didn't I just say I want this? As in to fuck?"

"Gods, cursing just sounds so funny coming from that cute face of yours." Vi couldn't help but tease her. "I hope I'll get to hear more of it soon." She laid down first, and patted the spot next to her. Caitlyn didn't waste time pulling Maddie down along with her. This was… oddly comforting, it should be suffocating, scary, almost every cell in her body told her to run because she didn't deserve to be here.

Yet she fell asleep, she was warm and safe and she didn't have to run. Maybe ever again.

Maddie was the second one to wake up that morning. Naturally Caitlyn was up first, reminding her of the many times they woke up together. Except now she had a muscular arm thrown around her torso. Carefully she pushed Vi's arm down and replaced herself with a pillow, which Vi hugged close. Apparently the brawler was quite the cuddler.

To not disturb her Maddie touched Caitlyn's shoulder and motioned for them to leave the room to talk. It was familiar to her, drinking coffee early in the morning together.

"I'm sure you have questions from last night. I'm willing to hear them out and answer them."

"Just… why? Why give me a second chance? Why kiss me? Why did you trust me enough to sleep next to me? It doesn't make sense, you should… hate me." Maddie started at her cup of coffee, waiting it to get a bit cold. How she liked it best.

"I know. I did hate you, I was scared of you too, of what you did to me. But I've changed a lot since the time we were together. I don't want to let hatred and fear control me, what I do, who I'm with, or who I let into my heart. Vi was there for me when I was at my best and my worst, twice now I felt like I hit rock bottom and she was still there for me. I want to do the same for you, Maddie. I want to give you a chance, Vi wants to give you a chance. If you want it." As a spy Maddie was trained to catch the smallest of lies. She detected none with Caitlyn. She was nothing but honest, she wore her heart on her sleeve, which made her so vulnerable, so perfect and easy to manipulate.

She was giving Maddie a second chance. Risking that heart of hers again. Foolish. Soft. Beautiful. "My mission was to distract you, learn your weakness, you plans, test you, steal your heart if I could… And yet… I think you've got a grip on mine. How pathetic is that?"

"Yeah and I'm a Zaunite that fell in love with an Enforcer. What does that make me?" Vi walked in, still half asleep and chugged a full cup of coffee. No milk. "It'll tell you what it makes me: really damn happy that I have Caitlyn in my life."

"Good morning, darling." Caitlyn smiled when Vi walked up behind her and hugged her. Apparently Vi was clingy in the morning too. "She gets like this if she wakes up alone."

Vi had the personality of a puppy. How adorable was that?

"The point is…! Maddie, the heart wants what the heart wants, no one's gonna fault you for that. Least of all me when you got such great taste in women." Vi hugged Caitlyn close one more time before she walked to the other side of the table and stood next to Maddie, "But if you hurt her again I can't promise I won't snap your neck with my bare hands."

"Oh yes, because who doesn't want to start a relationship with threats of murder." Even though she knew for a fact some people got turned on by that.

"So you understand. Good. Good girl." Maddie looked down at her coffee, her ears burning at the praise once again. "Hm, I'll have fun with that."

Maddie wasn't! She was gonna die if she heard it one more time!
