"Mom, can I go play with my friends?" Rodrigo's voice echoed through the quiet house, hopeful and full of excitement.
"Not yet, honey," his mother called back from the kitchen. "Remember, you have chores to do first!"
With a dramatic sigh, Rodrigo trudged over to the basket of laundry. He didn't mind playing with his friends from school, but the allure of the mysterious woods was too strong. They whispered secrets and promised adventures that his schoolyard friends couldn't match. His mother didn't understand.
But Rodrigo was a clever boy. He knew the fastest way to get his chores done was to pretend they were a series of quests. Each sock was a treasure to be found, and every folded shirt a beast slain. So, with a determined look in his eyes, he set to work.
Once he had completed his tasks, he dashed outside, his heart racing with anticipation. The woods were just a short walk away, and he had been dying to explore them all week.
He had heard rumors of a hidden cave, a place where the kids said strange things could happen. But no one had ever been brave enough to go in.
As he approached the edge of the woods, he saw a flicker of light through the trees. It was faint, but it called to him like a siren's song. He couldn't resist the urge to investigate.
Venturing off the beaten path, he found himself at the mouth of a dark, foreboding cavern. It looked like something out of a storybook, and he could almost feel the magic seeping out of it. Without a second thought, he stepped inside.
The cave was eerily quiet, his footsteps echoing off the damp walls. He shivered, feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the temperature.
As he went deeper, the light grew stronger, beckoning him like a beacon in the dark. Suddenly, the ground gave way beneath him, and he tumbled into a chamber bathed in a soft, blue glow. Dazed, he looked around and realized he wasn't alone.
Before him stood a figure, radiant and otherworldly. It was Tikal The Echidna, the ancient echidna priestess from 3000 years ago.
She looked at him with a gentle smile, her eyes filled with warmth and understanding. "Young one, you've found your way to a place you shouldn't have," she said, her voice echoing softly through the chamber. "But do not fear, for I am here to guide you."
Rodrigo's mind reeled. Was he dreaming? Hallucinating? Or had he really stumbled into another world? He didn't know, but he couldn't ignore the overwhelming sense of belonging that washed over him.
Tikal explained that he was in the Hidden Palace Zone, a place between worlds, and that she had felt his presence and decided to help him.
"A place...between worlds...?" Rodrigo asked.
"Yes, little one. For you see, my tribe, the Knuckles Clan, have multiple Hidden Palaces. One of them holds the Master Emerald. The Master Emerald is a very powerful gemstone." Tikal noted, "This one is not that Hidden Palace Zone. This is a secondary one, built to send enemies away from the Master Emerald's trail. It links your world with Mobius."
(Mobius...the world of the Sonic games...!) Rodrigo thought, amazed!
"Excuse me, but I don't think we've introduced to each other. I'm Tikal, and you are?" Tikal asked.
"M...my name is Rodrigo." Rodrigo said.
He listened, entranced, as she spoke of his new home and the responsibilities that came with it. He would be her apprentice, learning the ways of the ancients and protecting the realm from those who sought to misuse its power.
"But...does this fake Master Emerald REALLY needs guarding?" Rodrigo asked.
"Yes, dear. The reason I can talk and interact with you is because of it. It is a fake Emerald...however, it has enough power to allow me to manifest my spirit. But more importantly, bellow the fake Master Emerald, there is a tunnel, leading to the true object you must guard: The grey Chaos Emerald, the seventh Emerald." Tikal explained.
Rodrigo blinked. He had, on his own world, played Sonic 1, for the Genesis, and the Master System titles. All of them have one thing in common.
"But lady Tikal...there are only SIX Chaos Emeralds." Rodrigo corrected.
"So most people believe. But my clan hid one Emerald. The seventh one." Tikal explained, smiling. "The servers are the seven chaos. Chaos is power, power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one who unifies the chaos. I took years to understand what my grandmother meant.
Rodrigo was amazed at this reveal. "But...I'm just a kid. I can't protect something so important." he whispered.
"You won't be alone, little one. Even though I am a spirit, I'll always be here for you." Tkal promised.
Tikal made herself solid, and Rodrigo felt a strange mix of awe and comfort as she enveloped him in a warm hug. Her fur was soft, and her scent was faintly floral.
She held him close and whispered, "Welcome to your new life, Rodrigo."
The days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months. Tikal taught him about the history of the Hidden Palace, the Chaos Emeralds, and the importance of the Master Emerald lookalike that lay at its heart.
She also taught him the ways of the Guardian: the art of setting traps (Non lethal, as befitting Tikal's pacifist nature), the ancient language of the Echidnas, and the importance of discipline.
Whenever he misbehaved, she would give him a firm spanking, much to his embarrassment. Tikal herself didn't like doing it, but knew it was needed at times.
But it was always followed by a gentle rub and a kiss on the forehead, reassuring him that she only did it for his own good. And she was right; he felt a strange sense of security and love in her correction, knowing that she cared for him.
One fateful afternoon, Rodrigo's curiosity got the better of him. He had been exploring the Hidden Palace's many chambers and had stumbled upon a forbidden room. It was filled with ancient artifacts and scrolls that Tikal had strictly forbidden him from touching.
His eyes lit up with excitement, and before he knew it, he had reached out to grasp a shimmering crystal, breaking a sacred rule.
The moment his fingers closed around the crystal, alarms echoed through the halls, and the ground trembled beneath his feet. He had triggered an ancient trap.
Tikal's spirit form materialized beside him, her eyes wide with alarm. "Rodrigo, what have you done?!" she exclaimed, her voice stern.
He looked at her with a mix of fear and guilt. "I'm sorry, Tikal," he murmured, his voice trembling. "I didn't mean to..."
But there was no time for apologies. The room was sealing shut, and the only way to disable the trap was to replace the crystal on its pedestal immediately.
Tikal knew that the consequences for his disobedience would have to come later. For now, they had to work together to save themselves.
They managed to escape just in time, but Tikal was visibly upset. She led him back to the main chamber of the Hidden Palace, her steps heavy with disappointment.
Once there, she sat down on next to the fake Master Emerald and turned Rodrigo over her spiritual lap as she pulled down his shorts and undies at the same time, revealing his bare bottom. He knew what was coming next.
"This is for your own good," she said, her voice gentle but firm. "You must learn to respect the ancient laws of this place."
With that, she began to spank him, her hand coming down in a rhythmic pattern on his sensitive skin.
Rodrigo squirmed and yelped, feeling the sting of her discipline. But even as he felt the pain, he knew she was right. He had to learn, and he had to be responsible for his actions.
"You must understand," Tikal continued, her voice steady and calm, "that every object in this palace has a purpose, a history. They are not mere toys to be played with. They are the guardians of a power that could destroy us all if it falls into the wrong hands."
The spanking grew more intense, each smack echoing through the chamber like a warning bell. Rodrigo's eyes watered, and he bit his lip to keep from crying out too loudly. He nodded in understanding, feeling the weight of his mistake.
"You are the Guardian now," she said, her hand pausing for a brief moment. "It is your duty to protect this place and everything within it. That includes the Seventh Emerald and the knowledge it holds, as well as every crystal from the Hidden Palace."
Rodrigo nodded, his eyes downcast. He felt the heat of his mistake burning into his skin with every smack that followed. Tikal's words were a gentle reminder of the responsibility that had been placed upon him. He had to be stronger, wiser, braver.
Her hand continued to spank him, each strike echoing his mother's voice from earlier, reminding him of his chores. But this was different. This was a lesson about the true weight of his actions, and the consequences that came with disobedience. He had to be worthy of the trust Tikal had placed in him.
"I will do better," he murmured, trying to control his breathing. "I won't disappoint you again."
Tikal nodded, her eyes reflecting a mix of sadness and determination. "I know you will," she said, her hand moving to his other cheek. "But you must understand the gravity of your actions."
Her palm connected with his skin again, and Rodrigo gritted his teeth. The sting grew more intense as she alternated cheeks, each smack a reminder of his carelessness. He could feel the heat building, not just from the spanking but also from the guilt. He had let Tikal down, and that was a feeling he didn't want to experience again.
As the spanking continued, Rodrigo's thoughts swirled with images of the ancient echidnas and the stories Tikal had shared with him. He saw the Hidden Palace in a new light, not just as a playground but as a bastion of power and protection. The artifacts were not just trinkets but relics of a lost civilization that had entrusted their legacy to him.
He thought of the traps he had set before, the ones designed to keep intruders out. Now, he realized that they were not just for fun or to keep his friends safe; they were a part of the very fabric of his duty. He was the gatekeeper, the protector of secrets that could shake the world.
Through his tears, he whispered, "I'm sorry, Tikal. I'll be more careful. I promise."
Her hand paused, and she looked at him with a softened gaze. "I know you will, Rodrigo," she said, her voice filled with warmth. "But you must learn that there are consequences to your actions."
With a deep breath, she continued the spanking, focusing on his sit spots—the tender area where his bottom met his thighs. He yelped and squirmed, the pain more intense than before.
"One... two... three..." she counted, her voice steady as she delivered the final ten smacks. Each one brought a fresh wave of agony, making his eyes water and his throat tighten.
As the last spank landed, Rodrigo couldn't hold it in anymore. He burst into sobs, his body shaking with the release of tension and pain.
Tikal's expression grew gentle, and she pulled him into a tight embrace, cradling him in her arms. He felt her fur against his skin, and it was soothing, a stark contrast to the fiery ache of his bottom.
"It's okay," she whispered, her breath tickling his ear. "It's okay to cry. It's part of growing up."
Rodrigo nodded, sniffling and trying to catch his breath. He knew she was right. He had to be stronger, had to be ready for whatever lay ahead. With Tikal's guidance, he was sure he could be the guardian the Hidden Palace needed.
After what felt like an eternity, his sobs subsided, and he leaned into her embrace, feeling small and vulnerable. He knew that she would always be there for him, even if it meant delivering tough love in the form of a spanking. And as she began to rub his back gently, whispering words of comfort, he felt the warmth of her aftercare seep into his soul.
He looked up at her, his eyes red and wet. "Thank you, Tikal," he murmured. "I'll do better."
Her eyes searched his, looking for the truth in his words. After a moment, she nodded. "I know you will, my dear," she said. "You are strong, and you have the heart of a true guardian. Now, let's get you cleaned up, and we'll talk about what happened."
Rodrigo nodded, taking a deep breath and wiping his nose with the back of his hand. He knew that the spanking was over, but the lesson had only just begun.
The aftercare was like a balm to his bruised ego. She rubbed his back gently, her hands warm and comforting. He felt her love and guidance flow through him, filling him with a renewed sense of purpose. He knew that she believed in him, and that was all he needed to make it right.
Together, they would face the challenges of his new life, and he would become the guardian that Tikal knew he could be.
The journey ahead was fraught with danger and secrets, but with Tikal by his side, he was ready to face whatever the future held. The Hidden Palace was his home now, and he would protect it with all his heart.
As the days went by, Rodrigo grew more adept at setting traps and understanding the ancient texts. He became a silent sentinel, watching over the Emerald and the knowledge it contained.
Much for his amazement, Rodrigo met Sonic and Tails, icons of his favorite games on the world!
His friendship with Tails grew stronger, and they often talked about their shared love for adventure and exploration. But he never revealed his true home or the secret he carried within him.
One day, as he was scouting the outskirts of the island, he heard the distant rumble of Eggman's machinery. His heart raced as he realized the mad doctor had found Westside Island.
He knew he couldn't just stand by and watch his new friends' home be destroyed. With a deep breath, he made a decision that might change everything: he would leave the sanctity of the Hidden Palace to help them.
As he left, Tikal appeared in the palace, looking at the leaving boy.
"Another exploration, hm?" the spirit Echidna mused, but smiled, "It is good for Rodrigo to make friends outside his Guardian duties at times."
After making this decision, Tikal decided to check on Hidden Palace's traps herself, while the Palace awaited the return of it's Guardian.
Meanwhile, above ground, Tails was working on the Tornado when Rodrigo arrived, panting.
"Hey there, Rodrigo!" Tails smiled, "Great timing! I'm just finishing my work on the Tornado. Wanna give a test flight with me, bro?"
Rodrigo panted. "N-no time for that, Tails!"
Tails looked worried. "Rodrigo, what's wrong?" he asked.
Rodrigo's eyes were wide with urgency. "Tails, come quick! We've got to tell Sonic! Eggman's attacking!"
Tails' eyes went wide. "What? How do you know?"
"I heard it," Rodrigo said, his voice shaking. "We've got to help the animals in Westside Island."
Tails nodded, and without a moment's hesitation, they set off. Tails flew while Rodrigo kept pace on the ground, his heart pounding in his chest.
They arrived at Emerald Hill Zone just in time to see Sonic and Eggman locked in an epic battle.
The sight was awe-inspiring: Sonic, a blue blur of speed and power, dodging and weaving through Eggman's relentless drill as the doctor charged Sonic agan and again.
The doctor's drill car loomed large, belching smoke as it drove through the lush greenery. Rodrigo's jaw dropped as he took in the chaos.
Tails flew into action, joining Sonic in the fight. Rodrigo watched, his chest tight with anxiety. He knew he had to do something, but what could he do against such a formidable enemy?
As the battle raged on, he noticed the grass and trees around Eggman's machine seeming to shiver and shake, as if something was disturbing the very fabric of the zone.
"This Drill Car must be heavy. VERY heavy..." Rodrigo figured.
An idea began to form in his mind, one that might just give them the edge they needed.
He whispered to Tails, explaining his plan. The fox looked at him with surprise, then nodded.
Together, they sprang into action, working in perfect harmony as they had done so many times in the games Rodrigo had played.
The trap was ingenious, a blend of ancient echidna technology and modern know-how. It was something he had never seen in his games, but he had learned from Tikal that sometimes, the most effective solutions were the simplest ones.
They waited, their hearts racing, as Eggman's drill car approached the spot they had prepared. At the last second, Rodrigo triggered the trap.
The ground gave way beneath the drill car, and it plummeted into the pit they had dug.
Sonic looked over, his eyes wide with shock and a hint of admiration. "Where did you learn to do that?"
Rodrigo couldn't help but grin, his cheeks reddening slightly. "I've had some... unique experiences," he said, glancing back towards one of the many hidden entrances to the Hidden Palace.
Together, the three of them watched as Eggman's machine lay defeated, its metal husk steaming and broken. They had won the first battle, but Rodrigo knew that this was only the beginning.
The victory was short-lived, as reports of Eggman's incursions grew more frequent. They faced the mad doctor in Chemical Plant Zone, where the air was thick with toxic fumes, and Sonic was, as usual, the hero of the day.
"Tails, Rodrigo, hold tight!" he smirked, grabbing the boys's arms and dashing at super speeds. Tails and Rodrigo yelled, but laughed.
Rodrigo himself hadn't had a fun ride like this ever since the human world's amusement parks!
Sonic's speed allowed them to jump on the moving platforms, and outrun the toxic liquid. He even made himself and the boys go so fast, they ran ABOVE the toxic water's surface without falling in!
"Mwahaha! You boys tricked me last time, but no holes will save you now!" Eggman then boasted, on his newest contraption, "You three are trapped now. If you move, you'll fall into my Mega Mack, courtesy of my moving floors to your left, and to your right. And, if you stay still...!"
Eggman grabbed some of the Mega Mack via the canister on his machine, then tossed it into them, the trio barely dodging without falling!
"...You'll be SHOWERED in Mega Mack. Either way, I win! OH-HO-HO-HO!" Eggman laughed.
"Mega Mack? Heh, more like Mega Muck to me!" Sonic joked. "What, is this machine named "Egg Water" or something? What was the one Rodrigo and Tails trashed into Emerald Hill Zone called, "Egg Driller"?
Eggman was unamused. Specially since his previous machine WAS called Egg Driller!
"Yes, well sometimes the simplest names work best. Besides, I'll have you know this machine is called "Egg Poison"!" Eggman declared!
"Heh, ya surprised me, Doc. That's REALLY more original than "Egg Water", a machine that catches toxic water named "Egg Poison"!" Sonic teased.
"GRAH! Shut it, you insolent Hedgehog!" Eggman growled, tossing more Mega Mack at the trio.
"S-Sonic, maybe it's not time to make him angry." Rodrigo said, nervously.
"R-Rodrigo has a point, Sonic. One wrong move, and down we go!" Tails added.
"Don't worry, boys. Just leave it to me!" Sonic smirked. "Can you two distract him for one second?"
Rodrigo and Tails looked at each other, and nodded.
"On it!" Tails exclaimed, flying up and throwing a handful of his tails at the Egg Poison.
"Tch! Take these stupid tails out of my cockpit, fox boy!" Eggman growled.
Rodrigo took a deep breath and leaped onto a moving platform, using his newfound agility to dodge the Mega Mack. "Hey, Egghead! Over here!" he called out, his voice echoing through the chemical plant.
Eggman's attention snapped to the two of them, and he swiveled his machine to face them, the cannon on the front spinning menacingly. "Ah, the little pest and his fox sidekick," he sneered. "Think you can take me down with your pathetic tricks?"
Sonic took the opportunity to sneak around behind Eggman, his eyes scanning the machine for any weaknesses. He had to jump up every time the platform spun, but that was simple for his speed.
"Well, now, what do we have here?" Sonic smirked, as he noticed a glowing red button that seemed out of place, and his instincts told him it was a trigger for something important.
"Hey, Doc, why don't you leave the animals alone and go bother someone else?" Rodrigo shouted, throwing a rock at the Egg Poison's cockpit. It bounced off harmlessly, but it was enough to keep Eggman's attention on them.
"Never!" Eggman roared. "This island is MINE!"
With a burst of speed, Sonic shot towards the button, his spikes glowing with power. He slammed into it, and the machine began grabbing Mega Mack fast...and tossing it into EGGMAN!
"Grah! I hate that hedgehog!" Eggman growled, "He found the "reverse" button!"
"Why does your machine even HAVE a reverse button?" Tails asked.
"The cointainer was made from an old vacuum cleaner I had, it's not like I had a choice here!" yelled Eggman!
Rodrigo watched in amazement as Sonic grinned, his eyes alight with the thrill of the fight. "Guys, now's our chance!"
Tails flew up and grabbed the doctor's attention with a barrage of his tails, while Rodrigo rushed forward, his hands glowing with a strange power.
It was something he had been taught during his training with Tikal-channeling his energy forward to send objects flying. It isn't something Rodrigo can do a lot unless he has his Grey Emerald with him, as this takes a lot of energy-but it would be enough for a distraction!
Channeling his energy into a quick shove, he sent a stream of rubble flying towards the Egg Poison.
The debris slammed into the side of the machine, causing it to wobble precariously.
Eggman roared with fury and tried to right his contraption, but it was too late. With a final push from Sonic, the "Egg Poison" toppled over, dumping the mad doctor into the pit of Mega Mack below.
The toxic sludge closed over Eggman with a sickening splat, and the room grew quiet except for the hiss of the fumes and the coughing of the animals that had been trapped.
"D...did we kill him?" Rodrigo asked, worried.
"Nah, Eggman never makes anything that can kill himself. Look!" Tails said, as Eggman left the Mega Mack pit with an oxigen mask that protected his face, and his usual outfit protected his body.
"This isn't the end!" Eggman warned, furious, as he called his Eggmobile and retreated.
Sonic turned to Rodrigo with a smile. "Not bad for a rookie, kid," he said, clapping him on the back.
Rodrigo blushed, his heart racing with excitement. "Thanks, Sonic," he murmured. "I couldn't have done it without you guys."
Tails hovered down to join them, his tails swishing happily. "Great teamwork," he said, giving Rodrigo a high five. "How did you do the rubble thing?"
"Huh...hehe, ya know, a magician never reveals his tricks!" Rodrigo joked, making Sonic and Tails laugh!
Their next stop was Aquatic Ruins Zone, where ancient secrets lay hidden beneath the murky water.
Each time, Rodrigo's knowledge of the zones' hidden entrances and traps proved invaluable. He became an integral part of their team, even though he still kept the truth about his origins to himself.
He didn't want to risk leading Eggman to the Hidden Palace, to the Emerald he had sworn to protect.
"Man, Rodrigo, you're like a ninja!" Sonic smirked, "You vanish and appear outta the blue. How do ya DO that?"
"O-oh, well...it's nothing special, I just jump behind the nearest cover I have when I'm startled. It's embarassing, really!" laughed Rodrigo.
"..." Tails, being both smart and curious watched Rodrigo and Sonic's talk, but didn't buy it.
(I never see you jump for cover, bro...) Tails thought.
But as they moved from zone to zone, the weight of Rodrigo's secret grew heavier. He knew that eventually, he would have to tell his friends the truth. And he feared what their reaction would be.
In Casino Night Zone, the neon lights flashed and the slot machines rang out as they faced Eggman yet again. The stakes were high, and the tension palpable. But as they worked together to disable the doctor's latest contraption, Rodrigo felt a sense of belonging he had never experienced before.
These were his friends, his family in this strange new world. And even though he had to keep a part of himself hidden from them, he knew that together, they could face anything that came their way.
After the victory at Hill Top Zone, the trio made their way down the hill, the sound of Eggman's retreating footsteps echoing through the night. As they descended, the landscape grew more mysterious, the neon lights of the casino giving way to the natural beauty of the island.
The entrance to Mystic Cave Zone loomed before them, a dark maw in the side of the hill.
Rodrigo felt a tug of dread in his stomach as he recognized the location. It was the same zone where a hidden entrance to his Hidden Palace was located. He had hoped to avoid leading them anywhere near it, but fate had other plans.
"What's wrong, Rodrigo?" Tails asked, noticing his hesitation.
He forced a smile. "It's just...I've heard stories about this cave," he said, trying to sound nonchalant. "They say it's full of secrets and dangers."
Sonic looked at him, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "That's what makes it perfect for our next adventure!" he exclaimed, charging ahead.
Rodrigo and Tails exchanged a look. The fox shrugged, a mischievous grin on his face. "Well, we can't let him have all the fun," he said, and the two of them took off after Sonic.
As they delved into the depths of Mystic Cave, Rodrigo's mind raced. He had to find a way to keep them from stumbling upon his secret. His heart pounded in his chest as they approached the spot where the hidden entrance lay.
He could feel the power of the emerald, pulsing through the very air around him. It was a beacon, calling to him, reminding him of his duty. But he had to keep it hidden, no matter what.
Suddenly, Tails' expression grew serious. "Rodrigo, I know you're hiding something," he said, his voice low. "What is it?"
Rodrigo's eyes darted to the side, avoiding Tails' gaze. "It's...complicated," he muttered.
But before he could say more, the ground beneath them gave way. Sonic and Tails had rushed ahead, not noticing the pit in front of them. They fell into the darkness, their cries of surprise echoing through the chamber.
Rodrigo's heart skipped a beat. He had told Tikal about the potential for more aggressive intruders, and together, they had agreed to install a more serious deterrent.
Said deterrent being spikes at the end of the pit Sonic and Tails just fell into. They were designed to detect the body type of whoever fell in, and then, retract any spike who'd pierce vital body parts like eyes, throats, lungs, heart, and so on, leaving up only spikes that targeted non vital parts such as arms, legs, or tails.
It was a non lethal trap, as Tikal would want, yet a stronger deterrent against possible intruders, as Rodrigo, the one who set the trap, advised.
The idea was to keep possible intruders incapacitated until Rodrigo could use the magic Tikal taught him to heal and teleport the intruders away, ensuring they won't die even from blood loss, for would have all their injuries fully healed...yet still have a stern warning of what happened when they tried to invade Hidden Palace in their minds.
In other words, as mentioned before, a stern warning, that could still fit with Tikal's teachings-a balance between Rodrigo's protectiveness as a Guardian, and Tikal's pacifist ways.
Intruders that are stopped by the spike pit trap wouldn't see the interior of Hidden Palace, as the spikes are above Hidden Palace's entrance; plus, while healing the victim's body, Rodrigo, due to Tikal's teachings and his own kindness, would most likely draw upon the power of the Grey Emerald to adjust the memories of the incapacitated targets slightly.
He'd do this by protecting them from possible mind trauma of remembering the experience of being painfully pierced by spikes...but the intruder would still have a strong feeling of danger whenever they approached the pit they fell into, which would, hopefully, encourage the intruders to not try again on the Mystic Cave Zone's entrance to Hidden Palace.
Even so, it would hurt. A LOT. Plus, the spikes would pierce Tails...well, his tails, and Sonic's legs-areas Sonic and Tails use often. AND, if he used his magic to heal Sonic and Tails before teleporting them away, he'd be revealing his secret.
There's no way to save Sonic and Tails, save one. But if he does it, Sonic and Tails will end up on Rodrigo's Hidden Palace.
"There's no time to hesitate..." Rodrigo scolded himself in a mumble, jumping down the pit, as he expertly touched a certain area of the pit's wall.
The sound of the spikes retracting was the sweetest sound to his ears as he watched Sonic and Tails fall into what was supposed to be a non lethal, yet incapacitating trap.
His heart was racing, his palms sweaty. He had never used the emergency escape before, but it had to work.
The ground opened up, and the spikes, even the ones set to pierce non lethal areas, retreated into the walls with a hiss, before the floor of the pit opened, revealing a hidden chamber beneath.
Sonic and Tails plummeted into the open space, their eyes wide with shock and fear. But as they hit the bottom, the floor cushioned their fall, and they landed safely on a soft, glowing platform.
Rodrigo had just opened the entrance to Hidden Palace to spare Sonic and Tails some AGONIZING pain.
Rodrigo then landed gracefully beside them, his eyes wide with relief. "You guys okay?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Yeah, we are, somehow. Good thing the ground opened up!" Sonic remarked, but then looked around, his eyes wide with wonder. "What is this place?"
Tails looked at the waterfalls on the distance, the glowing green emeralds shining on the brown walls. "I don't know, Sonic." he said, "But this sure isn't Mystic Cave anymore."
Tails then looked at Rodrigo, seriously. "But I have a feeling you know, bro."
Sonic and Tails didn't see Rodrigo activating the mechanism that opened the floor. After all, they were on the middle of a free fall! But Rodrigo's graceful landing only increased Tails's increasingly growing suspicious!
Rodrigo was panicking on his mind. He can't tell them the truth. He is the Guardian of Hidden Palace. He already broke so many rules bringing Sonic and Tails here-he can't tell them about the Emerald on top of it!
Luckly, Rodrigo WAS resourceful.
"I...I stumbled on this place when exploring Mystic Cave Zone one day. I never had time to explore it, though. I'm guessing the spikes were a red herring to scare people away, since I did fall on this pit and the same thing happened to me with the ground opening and me falling here without being pierced."
"Oh, so THAT'S how you landed so gracefully instead of falling on your butt like us!" joked Sonic, "That makes sense to me!"
Rodrigo forced a laugh, his heart racing as he hoped they'd buy his lie. He knew the truth was far more complicated.
"Let's keep moving," he suggested, trying to change the subject. "We don't know what other surprises this place has in store."
As Rodrigo said that, he snuck a look at his "bro", Tails. Just a quick glance, to have an idea if Tails also bought this little story.
Tails...wasn't sure he bought it. If Rodrigo fell on the pit before, why didn't he say "Oh, by the way, guys, don't run in Mystical Cave Zone too fast. Ya see, there's this pit I fell into the other day..."
Something didn't add up with Rodrigo's explanation, and Tails didn't like it one bit. Why is his bro hiding things? WHAT is Rodrigo hiding? Tails is tempted to spank Rodrigo's bum bum...but instead, he decided to try and figure out what is going on here. For now!
The trio began exploring the Hidden Palace, the light from the glowing emeralds and other crystals in the all casting eerie shadows on the ancient walls. Rodrigo's heart pounded in his chest as he carefully guided Sonic and Tails through the winding corridors of the Hidden Palace.
He knew every nook and cranny of this place, having studied the layout meticulously during his training with Tikal. But now, he had to navigate them without letting his friends trigger any of the traps he had so painstakingly set.
Sonic's enthusiasm was infectious, his eyes lighting up at every strange artifact and piece of technology they encountered. "This place is so cool!" he exclaimed, running his hands over a glowing crystal.
Rodrigo had to bite his tongue to keep from yelling at him to be careful. Instead, he took a deep breath and calmly said, "Don't touch that, Sonic. It's...uh, fragile."
Tails' suspicion grew with every step they took. He noticed the way Rodrigo's eyes darted around the room, as if searching for something. "What's the rush, Rodrigo?" he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.
"I...I just don't want you guys to get hurt," Rodrigo replied, his voice strained. "Some of these traps are pretty nasty."
Sonic chuckled. "You sound like you've seen them in action," he said, nudging Rodrigo playfully.
"Yeah, bro. How come?" Tails asked, raising an eyebrow.
"W-well...I mean, I-I guess they can be! I mean, you guys saw the spike trap that seemed to be a warning, right? So there might be worse traps here that are less of a warning and more of a punishment!" Rodrigo tried, worried.
Although Rodrigo's nervousism still made Tails suspicious, at least THIS explanation made sense, so Tails just gave Rodrigo a soft nod.
Rodrigo was quite relieved at that!
He led them through the labyrinthine corridors of the Hidden Palace, his eyes darting from side to side as he searched for the path that would lead them safely out. The place was a treasure trove of ancient Echidna secrets, and he had spent hours setting up ingenious traps to protect it all.
To make it worse, Tails kept a close eye on Rodrigo. This made it so Rodrigo had to be extra careful not to give himself away!
As they ventured deeper into the Hidden Palace, Rodrigo found himself pretending to trip over an invisible rope, making it look like he had triggered a trap that was supposed to be a surprise. "Whoa, that was close!" he exclaimed dramatically, his heart racing.
Sonic and Tails rushed over, their expressions a mix of concern and excitement. "You okay?" Sonic asked, while Tails inspected the area for any signs of danger.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Rodrigo said, brushing himself off. "Just clumsy, I guess." He shot a quick glance at Tails, hoping the fox would buy his act.
Tails was wondering if Rodrigo fell on the trap, or was pretending...then sighed.
(Come on, Tails, ya can't keep suspecting your bro. But...why do I think he's hiding something still...?) Tails thought.
They continued on, and soon, they encountered a room with walls lined with holes that looked ready to shoot something at anyone who stepped into the wrong spot.
(Darts with a substance that made intruders fall asleep. Alas, Rodrigo wouldn't say THAT outloud!)
"This is definitely a trap," Tails murmured, his eyes narrowing.
Rodrigo swallowed hard, his mind racing. He had to act fast. "Look, guys," he said, pointing to a pressure plate in the center of the room. "If we stand on this, the holes in the wall should close."
Without waiting for them to react, he jumped onto the plate, his heart in his throat as the holes began to close, making it safe to proceed.
Sonic and Tails followed, their eyes wide with amazement.
"How did you know that?" Tails asked.
"I just had a...feeling," Rodrigo said, his voice shaky. He couldn't tell them the truth—that he had set that trap himself and knew exactly how it worked.
Before Tails could question Rodrigo more, they saw what looked like a ancient treasure room. Rodrigo's heart sank again. That...is one of many fake treasure rooms he and Tikal set for would be thieves.
Sonic's eyes widened at the sight of a necklace, its gleaming jewels seemingly singing to him. "Wow, look at this!" He exclaimed, looking at it, "Amy would love this for her birthday next week!"
Tails' ears flattened immediately. "Sonic, we can't just take it," he said firmly. "It's not ours."
But Sonic's excitement was uncontainable. "It's not like it belongs to anyone, right?" He reasoned, waving his hand dismissively at the ancient, untouched treasures around them.
Rodrigo's heart sank. The necklace was a key part of the Hidden Palace's defenses, one that could lead to a very nasty surprise.
Without a moment's hesitation, he lunged at Sonic, tackling him to the ground when Sonic was about to go on the necklace's direction!
"What the heck, Rodrigo?!" Sonic sputtered, a bit taken aback by the sudden assault.
"Rodrigo, what are you doing?!" Tails gasped.
Rodrigo's eyes were narrowed, his expression intense. "It's a trap," he murmured, his voice tight. "You can't just take things from here, Sonic. Everything has a purpose."
"C'mon, Rodrigo, you're being paranoid. It's just a necklace, for crying out loud!" Sonic pointed out.
Ignoring Sonic's protests, Rodrigo picked up a small pebble and tossed it casually in front of the necklace.
The pebble hit the ground, and the floor beneath it began to crumble, revealing a deep, dark hole. Tails' eyes went wide, and even Sonic's bravado faltered a bit.
"See?" Rodrigo said, his voice a bit shaky from the adrenaline rush. "This place isn't just for fun. It's protected for a reason." he noted, then quoted his mentor, Tikal, "Greed is our enemy. Once it starts, you'll always want more."
The two heroes stared at the gaping maw before them, the reality of their situation sinking in. The Hidden Palace was indeed a treacherous place, filled with ancient secrets and deadly traps.
Sonic looked at the necklace, at the other side of the gap the hole now formed, then at Rodrigo, his expression a mix of surprise and admiration as he looked back at the hole. If Rodrigo hadn't tackled him, he'd have fallen into this hole!
"You're right," Sonic said. "We shouldn't mess with things we don't understand."
Tails nodded solemnly. "Thanks for stopping Sonic, Rodrigo," he said, his voice quiet. "I didn't realize how serious this was."
Rodrigo let out a sigh of relief and offered them a small smile. "It's okay," he said, his voice still tinged with nerves. "We're all just trying to figure things out."
They continued their exploration, Rodrigo's heart racing with every step. He knew that keeping his friends safe was his priority, and if that meant hiding the truth, then so be it.
But as they ventured further into the depths of the Hidden Palace, he couldn't shake the feeling that their little adventure was about to take a very serious turn.
Tikal had been watching from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with a mix of pride and worry. She had seen Rodrigo grow into his role as Guardian, but she knew the dangers of letting outsiders into their sacred place.
Her gaze grew more intense as she observed Rodrigo's interactions with Sonic and Tails. He had indeed learned the lessons she had taught him—his quick thinking and reflexes had saved them from several traps. But she couldn't shake the feeling that his newfound friendship was putting the Hidden Palace at risk.
(Rodrigo...) she thought, (I hope you know what you're doing...)
They arrived at a chamber filled with spiked walls that moved in a mesmerizing pattern, creating a deadly maze. "This one's tricky," Rodrigo warned, his eyes flicking to the walls. "You have to find the pattern."
Sonic looked at him skeptically. "How do you know that?"
"I...uh...I read it in a book," Rodrigo stammered, his cheeks flushing. He couldn't very well admit that he had tested these traps himself during his training sessions.
Tails looked at him with a mix of admiration and suspicion. "Rodrigo, you're pretty good at this," he said, his voice filled with a hint of doubt. "How do you know so much about these traps?"
"I told you, I read about them," Rodrigo insisted, his voice tight. "It's just...intuition."
The three of them carefully stepped into the maze, the walls groaning and shifting around them.
Rodrigo's heart raced as he watched his friends, ready to jump in and save them if needed.
They moved through the maze, dodging spikes and jumping over pits. Sonic and Tails relied heavily on their speed and instincts, while Rodrigo's knowledge of the ancient Echidna lore guided them safely.
As with all traps here, there were secrets. Some spikes were real-like the one in the entrance, they appeared only when a non vital spot was on sight. Other were fake, rubber spikes meant to bounce the intruders into the pits.
Then there were parts of the maze were the ground rose or the ceiling descented, aiming to either make intruders faint, or try to retreat, scaring them by believing they'd be crushed. Should the intruder persist, a hole will open in the area about to "crush" them, locking the intruders into a special chamber until Rodrigo dealt with them.
Sonic and Tails had no idea of the mechanics behind these traps. But Rodrigo knew every single detail. How could he not? He had laid them with Tikal after all.
As they approached the final chamber, the walls of the maze closed in around them, forcing them to run. Rodrigo's heart pounded in his chest as he heard Sonic and Tails' panicked breaths. "Just keep moving!" he shouted, trying to keep the fear out of his voice.
They sprinted through the narrowing corridor, the walls inching closer with every step. Suddenly, the floor gave way beneath Tails, and he plummeted into the darkness below. "TAILS!" Sonic yelled, skidding to a halt.
Rodrigo's eyes went wide. He hadn't expected this to happen—his friend was in trouble, and he had to act fast. "Don't worry, I got this," he assured Sonic, his voice shaking with urgency.
He quickly activated a hidden lever on the wall, and the walls parted, revealing a safe path to the chamber below. Sonic didn't question how Rodrigo knew where the lever was; he was just relieved to see Tails' tiny figure landing unharmed on a cushioned platform.
They reached the chamber, and Tails looked up at them, his expression a mix of fear and confusion.
"How did you know where that was?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.
Rodrigo shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Lucky guess," he said, his eyes flicking to the side. But his mind was racing. He had to keep his secret; the fate of the Hidden Palace depended on it.
"Well, then we are VERY lucky!" Sonic smirked. "You okay, champ?" he then asked Tails.
"J...just scared." Tails said, as Sonic and Rodrigo helped him up.
His suspicious, however, only grew. (Rodrigo...) he thought, (How do you have all of these "lucky guesses"? Which book did you read about an ancient palace and it's traps?)
"...Let's get moving." Rodrigo sighed, then his eyes widened. "W-wait, Sonic, don't touch that crystal!"
"Don't worry, Rodrigo, I got this! I'm sure that it'll open the exit for us!" Sonic said.
"No it won't, it'll activate-" Rodrigo began.
A rumble roared on the room...
"...the gauntlet." whimpered Rodrigo.
"T...the GAUNTLET?!" Tails asked.
Rodrigo had to act fast. He knew the Hidden Palace's defenses were designed to capture, not kill, but Sonic and Tails didn't. He had to get them out before they figured it out in a most painful way.
He grabbed Tails and pulled him to his feet, pointing to a narrow corridor that had just opened up in the far wall. "We have to go!" he yelled. "Now!"
Sonic, his curiosity piqued by the rumble, was reluctant to leave. "But maybe the exit-"
"NOW, SONIC!" Rodrigo's voice was filled with a desperation that was impossible to ignore.
With a grumble, Sonic released the crystal, and the three of them sprinted for the exit, the walls snapping shut behind them with a deafening roar.
As they raced through the corridor, more traps were triggered. Spears shot out of the walls, but Rodrigo had learned their patterns and pushed his friends aside just in time to avoid Sonic and Tails's legs from being pierced.
A floor panel gave way, but he knew where to step to avoid the false spots that would make his friends fall.
"How do you know where these traps are?!" Tails shouted, his eyes wide with fear.
"I-I just do, okay?" Rodrigo yelled back, his mind racing. "We don't have time for questions!"
The trio next stumbled upon a corridor with walls that seemed to close in on them, the pressure increasing as they moved forward.
"What's going on?!" Sonic shouted, his voice echoing in the narrow space.
"W-we'll be crushed!" Tails whined.
Rodrigo knew this wasn't the case. The walls would only close until the intruders are rendered immobilized, allowing him or Tikal to come deal with them.
He took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the walls for the hidden mechanism. "You guys need to stand still," he instructed, his voice calm despite the rising panic. "I'll find the way out."
As Sonic and Tails obeyed, he noticed a series of runes etched into the stone. He recited the ancient incantation Tikal had taught him, and the walls began to recede, the pressure dissipating.
"How did you do that?" Tails asked, his voice filled with amazement.
Rodrigo's heart skipped a beat. "J-just a lucky guess," he repeated, hoping his friends would let it go. "A-at any rate, the gauntlet is over now."
"Man, that was ONE HECK of a lucky guess, then!" Sonic said, smirking! "I mean, sheesh, ya just
looked at these weird drawings, mumbled something, and BAM, we're free!"
But Tails wasn't one to be easily swayed. His eyes searched Rodrigo's, looking for the truth. "You know more than you're letting on," he said, his tone accusatory. "What are you hiding?! Holes, spears, crushers, and you always seem to find the right thing to do to avoid them!"
Rodrigo's mind raced, trying to come up with a convincing lie. But before he could formulate a response, the ground beneath them trembled, and a sinister laugh filled the air.
They turned to see Dr. Eggman striding towards them, his robotic minions in tow. "Well, well, well," he cackled. "What do we have here? A little party in the ancient ruins?"
Sonic's eyes narrowed, and he took a protective stance in front of Rodrigo and Tails. "What do you want, Eggman?!"
"Why, I was worried about my enemies vanishing on me! I was sure Mystic Cave Zone's traps wouldn't have stopped you. So, I decided to check, and, I found a hole I never noticed before..." Eggman said.
"No!" Rodrigo groaned. "It was the spike pit!"
Tikal then manifested in front of the group. "Please, I don't know who you are, but you must leave this place!" she told Eggman. "You have no idea of the dangerous knowledge that is in here!"
"Master Tikal!" gasped Rodrigo.
"Master? Ya know this girl?" Sonic asked. "Well, she DID appear outta nowhere, like you..."
"Oh, mademoiselle, but I know what this place is! This is the Hidden Palace, is it not?" Eggman asked, making Tikal and Rodrigo gasp!
"WOAH...the Hidden Palace?!" Sonic asked.
"This place is only spoken in legends!" Tails said.
"Ah, but legends often have a kernel of truth," Eggman said with a knowing smile. "And my extensive studies have revealed that there are indeed seven Chaos Emeralds. And I already have three of them!"
Rodrigo felt his heart drop. He had been so focused on keeping his friends safe from the Hidden Palace's traps that he had neglected to consider the possibility that Eggman might know about the seventh Emerald.
"No! You found three of the Emeralds?! But we got the remaining three!" Tails said.
Sonic's expression was skeptical. "But there are only six Chaos Emeralds!"
"Ah, but you see, my dear hedgehog," Eggman said, stroking his mustache, "I have always had an eye for the extraordinary. And in my research, I have discovered that the ancient texts speak of a seventh Emerald, one hidden from the eyes of the unworthy. And I have every intention of claiming it for myself!"
Tikal stepped forward, her eyes blazing with a fierce protectiveness. "You shall not have it," she declared. "That Emerald is not meant for the likes of you!"
Eggman chuckled, his robotic minions closing in around them. "Is that so? Then I suppose we'll just have to see about that," he said, raising his hand to signal his minions to attack.
"Rodrigo, what is Eggman talking about?!" Tails asked.
"Yes, my little Guardian, why don't you enlighten them?" Eggman smirked.
"H...how did..." Rodrigo groaned.
"You had me fooled for a while, I'll give you that." Eggman admitted. "I took you for a insignificant brat. But then I saw the signs. Experienced in traps...vanishing and appearing when least expected...being able to match Sonic and Tails in facing my machines, despiting having no super speed or strenght...you are NOT a cowardly little boy, are you, Rodrigo? Tell me...are you not the Guardian of Hidden Palace?"
Rodrigo paled at the question!
He looked at his friends, then at Tikal, then back to Eggman, his thoughts racing! "Guys...I..." he started, but the words caught in his throat.
Sonic and Tails's eyes widened!
"Rodrigo, is he telling the truth?!" Sonic asked.
"You can't tell them!" Tikal whispered urgently. "It's too dangerous!"
But Rodrigo knew he couldn't lie to his friends anymore. "Yes," he said, his voice shaking. "I am the Guardian of the Hidden Palace. And the seventh Chaos Emerald is here."
Tails and Sonic exchanged stunned glances. "What?!" they exclaimed in unison.
"But why did you hide it from us?" Tails asked, his voice tinged with betrayal. "Bro, why?!"
"Because it's not just a game!" Rodrigo yelled, his frustration boiling over. "This Emerald is powerful, and if it falls into the wrong hands..."
"Well, it's about to, unless we use it! Rodrigo, lend me that Emerald..." Sonic suggested, hoping four Emeralds could beat Eggman's three.
"No!" Tikal said, her voice firm. "The Emerald is protected for a reason. It's not for you to take!"
"She's right, Hedgehog. It is for ME to take!" laughed Eggman, looking behind them, at the fake Master Emerald.
"Okay, doctor, you win! I'll give you the Emerald. But then you gotta leave!" Rodrigo said.
Tikal knew what her apprentice was doing, and it was a dangerous game. Giving the fake Master Emerald to Eggman, to protect the seventh Chaos Emerald.
Tikal and Rodrigo, after all, could make a replacement for the fake Master Emerald...but they can't replace the gray Chaos Emerald!
Eggman, however, saw right through Rodrigo...the doctor might be clownish, but he HAS 300 IQ!
"Do you take me for a fool? The flashy things on Hidden Palace never are what they seem...are they?" Eggman laughed, as one of the robots shot at the Fake Emerald, breaking it into pieces!
"N-no, Master!" Rodrigo gasped, as Tikal returned to her spirit ball form.
"Rodrigo, hurry! You must not let him to take the Emerald!" Tikal urged. "I trust in you, my apprentice!"
Rodrigo, Sonic, Tails, and Eggman went on a tube that was below the fake Master Emerald. This led the four of them to the chamber of the Grey Chaos Emerald, where Rodrigo grabbed it, Sonic and Eggman both getting their three Emeralds ready for this battle!
"Sonic, Eggman, you can't fight here!" Rodrigo said.
"Sorry, Rodrigo. But we don't have a choice!" said Sonic.
"We do...but it's more fun this way!" laughed Eggman.
The chamber was suddenly bathed in a multitude of colors as the two adversaries clashed, each of them emitting a powerful aura from their respective Emeralds. The air was charged with energy, and the walls of the chamber began to shake.
"Guys, please!" Rodrigo shouted over the din of the battle. "This isn't the right place for this!"
Tails looked at him, his eyes wide with worry. "What do we do, Rodrigo?"
Rodrigo's grip on the Grey Chaos Emerald tightened. "We have to get them out of here," he said. "If they destroy the chamber..."
But his words fell on deaf ears. Sonic and Eggman were fully engaged in their power struggle, their Emeralds clashing with a ferocity that sent sparks flying everywhere.
Rodrigo watched, his heart racing. The robots that had followed Eggman into the chamber were causing havoc, attacking the ancient walls with their weapons. He had to do something.
With a determined look, he turned to Tails. "Stay here," he instructed. "I'll try to get their attention."
Before Tails could protest, Rodrigo dashed into the fray, his small form a blur of motion. He tried to place himself between Sonic and Eggman, but they were too caught up in their battle to notice him.
"Sonic, stop!" he yelled, but his voice was lost in the cacophony of clanging metal and the roar of the Emeralds' power.
In desperation, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of the non-lethal crystals Tikal had taught him to use. He threw them at the robots, watching as they froze in place, their circuits overloading from the sudden influx of energy.
It was a small victory, but it was enough to get Sonic's attention. The hedgehog's eyes locked onto Rodrigo, and for a brief moment, the chaos around them seemed to slow.
"Rodrigo, what are you doing?" Sonic shouted, his voice strained with effort. "This isn't your fight!"
"It's not yours either!" Rodrigo retorted. "This is a sacred place! Please, stop this!"
But Eggman was not so easily deterred. He took advantage of the distraction to lunge at Sonic, his Emeralds glowing menacingly.
"Hahaha! Sorry, Guardian, but your authority is...OVERRULED!" Eggman yelled, blasting Sonic!
"SONIC!" Rodrigo and Tails yelled.
"Now then, Rodrigo, let's talk business. Give me Sonic's Emeralds AND the Grey Emerald, and I promise I'll let you go...you can look for another home, you're clearly not cut for this job!" laughed Eggman.
Rodrigo's temper was reaching a critical point, but Tikal's light ball entered the chamber. "Calm down, Rodrigo. It is not over yet. Remember your lessons..."
"Bah! You stupid firefly, get out of here!" Eggman said.
"Rodrigo, we need to get out of here!" Tails said, as he helped Sonic up.
"..." this time, it was Rodrigo who was quiet.
"BRO!" Tails scolded.
But Rodrigo gave a deep sigh..."Master Tikal, you're right. I think I understand now...the meaning of the prayer."
"Prayer...?" Sonic asked.
"HAHAHAHA! Yes, say your prayers while you still can!" boasted Eggman.
"Bro..." Rodrigo told Tails, "Please, hold my hand, if you still trust me. I have a plan."
"Well...okay, bro. But, we're still gonna have a little talk about keeping secrets from me later!" Tails warned, holding Rodrigo's hand.
Rodrigo then grabbed his Grey Chaos Emerald.
"The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is power, power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one who unifies the Chaos. The Master Emerald isn't here, Grey Emerald. So, you must help us. Bring your siblings to your side!" Rodrigo ordered!
"WHAT?! My Emeralds! What are you doing?!" Eggman demanded, as his Emeralds flew away from his grasp.
"Woah, not only yours, doc! There goes mine!" Sonic said, surprised.
The seven Chaos Emeralds surrounded Rodrigo and Tails, and began spinning around the boys. A big glow enveloped the chamber...and when it ended, Rodrigo was floating, his hair a golden color as a powerful aura surrounded him.
Tails had a similar aura, and his fur began pulsating in a golden shade.
They weren't Rodrigo and Tails anymore. They were Super Rodrigo and Super Tails!
"W-woah! Rodrigo, what happened to me?" Super Tails asked.
"This is the true power of the Chaos Emeralds, bro. The Grey Emerald, joined by it's siblings. The Chaos Emeralds can turn the impossible possible." Super Rodrigo replied.
The power of the Chaos Emeralds surged through their bodies, their eyes gleaming with an otherworldly light. Eggman and Sonic stared in amazement as the two friends transformed into their super forms.
"What...what is happening?!" Eggman sputtered.
"It's a Super State!" Sonic exclaimed. "I've read about this in the legends! But I didn't know it was real!"
"This is what the prophecy spoke of," Tikal's spirit whispered. "The true power of the Chaos Emeralds, wielded by those with pure hearts. You two are the first to achieve it together."
"But we're not fighting for power," Super Tails said, his voice echoing with the power of the Emeralds. "We're fighting to protect."
"And that," Super Rodrigo added, his eyes never leaving Eggman's, "means you have to leave."
Eggman's smirk faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. "Fine," he said, his voice cold and calculating. "If you won't give me the Emeralds, I'll just take them."
He sent a beam from his machine, trying to take the Chaos Emeralds back and undo the boys's transformation. But as the beam approached the super-powered duo, it was repelled by a force field that had formed around them.
"Your power is no match for us," Super Rodrigo said, his voice steady and firm. "Now, leave this place. It's not for you to conquer."
"NEVER!" Eggman growled. "The Chaos Emeralds belong to me!"
"Oh man, Doc. Ya don't know when to give up, do you?" Sonic smirked.
"Silence, hedgehog!" Eggman roared, his machine's weapon charging again.
Super Rodrigo tried to get into a defensive stance, but Super Tails was too eager to unleash the power they had been granted.
"Tails, wait!" Rodrigo shouted, but it was too late. Super Tails had already dashed towards Eggman, his tails swiping at the doctor's robotic minions with reckless abandon.
The room shook as the minions were sent flying into the ancient walls, causing chunks of rock to crumble down. Super Rodrigo cringed, knowing how much Tikal would scold them if they damaged the Hidden Palace.
"Tails, be careful!" Rodrigo called out, trying to keep up with his friend's energy. But Super Tails was in his element, the thrill of the fight making him wild and unpredictable.
Tikal's spirit hovered anxiously above them, watching as the two Super forms clashed with Eggman. She knew the power they wielded was volatile, especially in inexperienced hands.
"Remember the prophecy, Rodrigo! You two must be in harmony!" she reminded him.
"That's what I'm trying to do, master! If a mischievous Super fox would LISTEN to me..." Super Rodrigo noted, exasperated. Then, he took a deep breath and focused, channeling the energy of the Grey Emerald. "Tails, we can do this together!" he shouted.
"O-oh, you're right! Sorry, bro. I got a bit carried away." Super Tails said, rubbing the back of his head.
"You'll be sorry later, bro. Right now, we got an egg to crack!" Rodrigo said.
Eggman pressed a button. "You and what army?!" he growled, shooting a laser barrage into the boys!
But their auras combined, creating a powerful barrier that protected them from Eggman's next attack. They worked in unison, Super Rodrigo setting traps and using his newfound strength to hold back the doctor's machines, while Super Tails provided swift and precise strikes.
Sonic watched from the sidelines, impressed by his friends' newfound abilities. "Looks like you two got this under control," he said, a hint of admiration in his voice.
But even with their combined might, the battle was taking its toll on the chamber. The air grew thick with dust, and the floor cracked beneath their feet.
"We can't keep this up much longer," Super Rodrigo warned, his eyes flickering with concern. "We need to force him to leave before we destroy this place!"
Super Tails nodded, his excitement tempered by the gravity of the situation. He took a moment to focus and then flew at Eggman with a newfound precision, his tails spinning like a whirlwind.
The doctor's eyes widened as he realized he was outmatched, his machine sparking and about to blow up. With a snarl of frustration, he retreated, his machine backing away from the two Super forms.
"You may have won this round, but I'll be back!" he shouted, disappearing through the chamber's entrance.
"Okay, Doc! Next time, I'll beat you myself!" Sonic smirked, before shooting them a thumbs-up. "Rodrigo, Tails, way to go! You did an amazing job there!"
"Thanks, Sonic. Thank goodness the Grey Emerald can serve as a secondary controller when the Master Emerald isn't around, or so master Tikal says, anyway." Super Rodrigo said, then asked
Super Tails with a shaking voice, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Super Tails panted. "But...what was that?"
"The power of the Chaos Emeralds," Tikal's spirit said, floating down to them. "It's a great responsibility, one that requires balance and control."
They looked around at the damage they had caused. The chamber looked like it had been through a war zone. Well...Eggman had lots to blame, but both Sonic and Tails also had a great deal of blame, as they saw the little Guardian, Rodrigo, and his master, Tikal, look at them, unamused!
"Hehe...sorry, Rod. Guess I get too excited when battling Eggman." laughed Sonic.
"A-and this power was so cool...I felt invincible." Super Tails nervously said. "I didn't mean to disturb the Grey Emerald's chamber, bro..."
Tikal shook her head. "I'm sorry, Rodrigo. Looks like we'll need to fix this mess."
"We'll fix it," Super Rodrigo said, determination in his voice. "We'll make it right, Master. But before that, I got a promise that I have to keep."
Super Tails gulped, having an idea of where this was going...
"Very well. On the meantime, Sonic, I'd like to have a few words with you, if you don't mind." Tikal said.
"E-ehh...fine then..." Sonic said, but thought, (Why do I have a bad feeling about this?)
With a sigh, Super Rodrigo turned to face Super Tails, his eyes narrowed in a stern look. "You know the rules," he said. "You have to face the consequences for your actions."
Super Tails nodded solemnly. "Yeah, I know," he mumbled. "I'm sorry, Rodrigo."
Without another word, Super Rodrigo bent Super Tails over a nearby boulder that had been displaced in the fight. Super Tails' heart was racing, and his cheeks turned pink as he felt his friend's hand on his bottom.
The first smack echoed through the chamber, making even Sonic flinch. Super Tails yelped, his eyes watering. "Ow!"
"You need to learn to control your power," Super Rodrigo scolded, his hand coming down again. "And to respect this place."
"Ow, I know, I know!" Super Tails squirmed, his bottom already reddening from the spanking.
(Man, so even with this crazy transformation, a spanking is still a spanking, huh? Then again, Rodrigo IS transformed himself...) Sonic thought, only to gasp as Tikal took a firm grip on his arm and led him to another corner of the chamber.
"You, young hedgehog, have been a nuisance for far too long," she said, her voice stern. "It's time for a lesson in respect."
Sonic looked at her, surprised. "Wait, what? Me?" he protested.
"Do not argue," she said, pointing to another boulder. "Bend over."
Sonic's cheeks reddened, but he knew better than to disobey. Something on Tikal's stern eyes told him he DIDN'T wanna make her even more upset than she already was! He bent over, his quills flattening against the cool stone.
"Now, hold still," Tikal instructed, raising her hand.
The first smack hit him hard, and Sonic couldn't help but let out a yelp. "Ow! T-Tikal, that hurts!"
"It's supposed to," she replied, her hand landing again and again. "You must understand that your recklessness can lead to the destruction of what you hold dear."
Sonic gritted his teeth, his eyes watering as he took the spanking. He knew she was right. He had been too eager to jump into the fight without thinking of the consequences.
His mind went to all the traps he set by accident, specially the one where he almost fell on a pit. And specially...
("Rodrigo, what are you doing? This isn't your fight!" "It's not yours either!" Rodrigo retorted. This is a sacred place! Please, stop this!" )
(M...man...I REALLY messed up, specially if Rodrigo IS the guardian of this place...) Sonic thought, as he yelped.
The spankings continued, each smack bringing a fresh sting to their bottoms. Super Tails and Sonic squirmed and apologized, their cries of pain and regret echoing off the ancient walls.
As they were being disciplined, the two friends couldn't help but feel a strange sense of camaraderie. They were in this together, and they would come out of it stronger and wiser.
"Oww! Ouch! Rodrigo, please!" Super Tails sobbed, "I won't let the power get to my head next time!"
"You better not!" Super Rodrigo retorted, spanking the sitspots. "The Emerald's powers are not toys! They have a important role!"
"Oww, c'mon, Tikal!" sobbed Sonic. "I'm reckless, that's how I am! I'll try to do better!"
"I know you will, young hedgehog. And I intend to help you do good on your promise..." Tikal firmly said, spanking Sonic's sitspots.
Super Tails' yelps grew louder with each smack from Super Rodrigo's hand, his bottom now a deep shade of red. "Oww! Yes, I'll be careful, I promise!" Super Tails yelped, his tails dropping between his legs in submission.
Meanwhile, Tikal's palm met Sonic's quilled behind with surprising force, the hedgehog's eyes watering as he squirmed under her grip. "I...I'll think before I act next time," Sonic stuttered, his body tensing with each smack.
The sound of bare flesh meeting fur filled the chamber, a symphony of discipline that resonated through their very beings. Both Sonic and Super Tails understood the gravity of their actions, and the importance of the place they were in.
Finally, the spankings ceased, leaving the two in a pile of sore, red bottoms and sniffles. Rodrigo and Tails's transformation ended, leaving Rodrigo and Tails on their base form as Rodrigo helped the fox stand, holding him close as Tails leaned into his embrace.
"It's okay," Rodrigo whispered. "We're in this together. We're gonna fix this mess and keep the Emeralds safe."
Tikal nodded, her expression softening as she saw the change in Sonic's demeanor as she also hugged the sobbing hedgehog. "You both have learned your lesson," she said. "Now, let's repair the damage done."
"Y-ya bet..." sobbed Sonic, "W-we'll make up for our mistake, won't we, Tails?"
"W-we will, Sonic..." Tails agreed, also sobbing, "L-let's do our best to make this place as good as new!"
Rodrigo and Tikal looked at each other, with a smile. The fake Master Emerald was broken, but that they could fix later. The important thing is that Eggman was beaten, for now, the Emeralds are safe, and both Sonic and Tails learned a lesson.
The three of them set to work, using their abilities to restore the chamber to its former glory. The ancient stones levitated at Rodrigo and Tikal's command, returning to their original places. The dust cleared with Tails using his tails to sweep, and Sonic used his speed to clean the debris left.
As the room took shape, Tikal couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her young protege. Rodrigo had come a long way from the curious child who had stumbled into the Hidden Palace. And now, with Tails and Sonic by his side, they formed an unbreakable trio, ready to face whatever threats may come.
At first Tikal was worried about Rodrigo's new friends being here, and Sonic and Tails showed her worries were not unfounded. Alas, they also helped against Eggman. They learned their lesson. AND they are helping fix their mistakes.
(Rodrigo, you chose your friends well, after all...) Tikal thought, smiling.
The tension in the air dissipated, replaced by a sense of unity and purpose. They had fought together, been punished together, and now they would rebuild together. The friendship between them had been forged stronger by the flames of adversity.
Once the chamber was restored, the three of them sat before the fake Master Emerald, now gleaming with the light of their combined efforts.
"Thank you, Tails, Sonic," Rodrigo said, his eyes shining with gratitude. "We're gonna keep this place safe. For Tikal, for us, for everyone."
Tails nodded, his eyes meeting Sonic's. "We're with you, buddy," he said. "We're all guardians now."
Sonic smiled, his cheeks still red from the spanking. "Yeah, we are," he agreed. "And we'll do it right."
"Hey, hey, let's not overdo it! A Guardian ain't born in half a day, plus I doubt you wanna be stuck here, Sonic!" Rodrigo sighed. "You guys wanna be Guardians, you gotta learn the ropes, so listen to me now, alright?"
Tikal giggled at Sonic and Tails's embarassed smile. "Well, if they learned their lesson, it can't hurt to have help, Rodrigo. All that means is that we both need to teach them how to help out. You are the Guardian, but to be honest, if my tribe helped each other instead of focusing on power and war, they'd probably still be here. Let you never lose track of who you are, and the trust you have in your friends."
"I won't, Master. That is a promise." Rodrigo nodded, then joked, "IF they forgive me keeping secrets!"
Tails and Sonic laughed at that!
"Fine, but do it again, and I'LL be the one doing the spanking!" Tails warned Rodrigo!
Their hearts swelled with the power of the Chaos Emeralds, and as they held hands, they knew that together, they could overcome any challenge. They had learned their lesson well, and the Hidden Palace would be in good hands.
The sun set outside the cave, casting a soft glow over the newly restored chamber. It was a symbol of their newfound maturity and responsibility. As they sat there, feeling the warmth of their friendship and the power of the Emeralds within them, Tails couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging, a sense of home.
The Hidden Palace was no longer just a place; it was Rodrigo and Tails's destiny, their duty, and their sanctuary. With the lessons of the day still fresh in their minds, they knew they had a long road ahead. But they were ready to face it, as one.
Sonic, as free as the wind, couldn't stay on the same place for long, but he was happy to help hide the remaining six Emeralds, and occasionally visiting his friends. Tails would spend a long time on Hidden Palace as Rodrigo and Tikal's apprentice, though just as often allowed to leave for his own explorations. Tails's technological mastery and smarts helped Rodrigo install new, even better non lethal traps, to make sure Eggman would be nowhere near the Grey Emerald again.
And so, the tale of the guardians of the Hidden Palace continued, with Rodrigo, Tails, and even the impulsive Sonic, growing into their roles and learning the true meaning of friendship, duty, and sacrifice. The prophecy had spoken, and they were the ones to fulfill it.
THE END
