I am glad to see that so many of you enjoyed the previous chapter. I have also noticed a lot of different opinions on what Jin and Ruby has done. Which is what I was aiming for with the current story volume.
The theme for this current story volume is sides and perspectives. Without giving away any spoilers, I can confirm that there will be a lot of moments where the characters will make decisions and do things that makes sense from one perspective but with the whole context of the situation. There will be a sense of conflict for supporting said character. I know that Volume 7 canon tried this but in my opinion, they missed a few marks and Atlas canon should have been at least 3 volumes to flesh things out more.
For questions regarding the things Jin will do in the current volume. I can't give anything away but he will have a lot of major and shocking moments.
The diverting points has started and there are a lot of surprises in store for the current volume and a lot of it is set in stone. I know I'm jumping ahead, but I also want to add that Volume 7 of this story will be intense but that will only help prepare for a lot of MAJOR events in Volume 8 of this story.
For Terumi's/Hazama's plan, I won't give any specific details or spoilers but I can confirm one thing only. The smooth criminal has been cooking enough for Volume 7 and Volume 8 of this story. I can't wait for all of the reveals and the climax.
Chapter 97 Training and Complications
(General Ironwood's Office)
Jin spent a couple of hours telling General Ironwood everything he knew. From what was learned from the lamp. The details that Qrow told him and the group. To what really happened to Ozpin. Even the additional details of Lionheart's betrayal. Once Jin was done telling the General everything. Ironwood spent several moments thinking about everything he learned in complete silence. Jin tried to get a read on Ironwood's thoughts on the situation. However, Jin couldn't learn anything and from the General's facial expression and found himself waiting in silence for a response. After a few minutes of tense silence that felt like hours. The General started to address Jin.
"Just so I'm understanding this properly. Salem cannot be killed and the lamp has one question left? Along with the fact that Ozpin hid himself away deep within Oscar." General Ironwood asked expecting confirmation
"Yes." Jin bluntly answered
"In addition to that, the lamp is unable to reveal anything regarding Terumi. Which means that there is a high possibility that he is allied with someone who's power rivals that of the brothers of light and darkness." General Ironwood said summarizing some of the details he was given.
"That's right." Jin answered causing Ironwood to have a thoughtful look on his face. Before he held that look for too long. Jin spoke first
"How does this effect the Amity Project?" Jin asked prepared for any possible answer
"That's easy, as far as the Amity Project is concerned this ultimately changes nothing. The purpose of that project is to expose Salem to the world. Secrecy has been her greatest asset. Once we take that from her, it will create possibilities on how to best stop her plans." Ironwood briefly explained to Jin
"What about stopping her permanently?" Jin asked the General
"Honestly, plans regarding a confrontation were always in the concept phases. We never knew the full extent of her powers but with what you've told me. That means we need to look into alternatives. Since everything has been learned early on, it gives us ample time to figure out a way to subdue her. She's no stranger to failure and she is not perfect. The fact that she needs to hide behind the Grimm and get people to do her dirty work proves that she has limits. I'm confident that an opportunity will present itself." General Ironwood told Jin
"Given the options we have, I suppose spending time trying to figure out a way to subdue her is better than the alternative. Which is doing nothing and wait for her victory. Though this does lead to another question, where do we stand with Terumi?" Jin asked
"I hate to say it, but we're not in a position to take immediate action against him. We don't know what Terumi is after and we have no way to know what he aims to do. Since the lamp can't tell us anything regarding him. We have to focus on Salem. Though since he's working for her, I'm sure his motives will be revealed to us in time." General Ironwood briefly explained to Jin
"Then what about the situation regarding the Three Azure?" Jin asked further
"We know that you have one of them. Which is the Power of Order, that will be enough for now. Do you know where the other two Azures are?" General Ironwood asked Jin
"Only one of them, it's . . . ." Jin started to explain before Ironwood quickly interrupted him.
"Don't tell me who has it. I appreciate the fact that your trusting me with a lot. But it might be better if I don't know. Think of it as a cautionary measure in case things go wrong." General Ironwood
"I understand, once everyone had their sleep. I will inform them of our plan. They won't like it, but its better to know our options and act towards them then just flailing around blindly." Jin stated causing the General to think for a moment before he spoke.
"Maybe it's best if we say nothing to them." General Ironwood suggested to Jin
"Why, Ruby and her enablers can't do as they please and think that there won't be consequences. If we're to work together we have to be on the same page. Besides, I've given her several chances and her along with everyone else are sorely mistaken if they expect me to fall in line and let them do as they please. Especially if I'm in a position to do something about the problem." Jin explained to General Ironwood.
"I understand what your saying, but try to look at it from a different perspective Jin. While I'm not fond of the fact that they lied to me. Given the circumstances that they've all been dealing with. It would make sense for them to not fully trust me. Ozpin despite his intentions has lied to everyone about the nature of Salem's immortality and the consequences of bringing the relics together. Leo has given in to his fears and betrayed everyone and led many Huntsmen and Huntresses to their deaths. They know nothing about me and what they do know I didn't give the best first impression. Especially when you look at the state of Mantle." General Ironwood explained to Jin before he spoke further
"Even though all of you have accomplished a lot and endured many things. It's still easy to forget that they are still kids. 16, 17, or 18 years old, your all still young and the weight of the world has been thrusted on your shoulders. So it will make a lot of sense for some of you to not be too trusting after experiencing many hardships that could have been avoided. I know Ozpin has his reasons, but not knowing the facts just complicates the situation further." General Ironwood said before he started to finish his explanation
"Like you said, the others won't like the fact that you went behind their backs and told me. If they learn this, it will cause a lot of infighting and it will ultimately play into Salem's hands. If they tell me then that means I've earned their trust. With me learning this early, it'll give me a chance to make adjustments and find alternatives to stop her. Besides, I'd rather learn this now then learn this during say a large scale Grimm attack with Salem at our doorsteps." General Ironwood told Jin
"I understand General." Jin said before he started to walk away and left the office. Once Jin was gone, General Ironwood took a deep breath and thought about what he learned before speaking to himself
"An immortal, it can never be simple. Still taking away her secrecy will limit Salem's activities. But it doesn't change the fact that she controls an army of Grimm. If we can do something about that army, then it'll truly deal a blow to Salem. At the very least it can set her plans back significantly. Tenjo, if you do have the weapon, you need to work with me. Otherwise, you will leave me no choice." General Ironwood said to himself
(Team RJNN's Dorm Room)
After divulging everything to General Ironwood. Jin made his way to his newly designated dorm room. Once he entered, he noticed that Makoto is fast asleep and there is some leftover cake in the dorm fridge. When Jin looked around further, he noticed that Ragna wasn't around.
"Typical, he's out doing his own thing while ignoring the fact that he has to keep a low profile." Jin said before he got into bed
"You finally got back." Makoto told Jin after waking up
"Did I wake you?" Jin asked
"Nah, I tend to be attentive while I was asleep. It's a skill I picked up a few months ago." Makoto told Jin as he was getting himself ready for bed. Once Jin sat down, Makoto spoke further.
"Yang told me about your confrontation with Ruby and the rest of the team." Makoto told Jin
"Did she now?" Jin bluntly responded
"Don't take what Ruby said personally. You know as well as I do that everyone is dealing with a lot of stuff. I know it's not easy to deal with. I also know it's a lot to ask for, but I need you to be patient with her." Makoto told Jin
"How much more patience will you demand of me Makoto. Until they start thinking straight or when all of us are at death's door?" Jin asked
"They will make good decisions, all I'm asking is that you give them some time." Makoto told Jin
"Are you pleading for my patience because you believe in them? Or because Yang is your girlfriend?" Jin asked causing Makoto to jump up from her bed
"Jin, what are you . . . ." Makoto said before Jin quickly cut her off
"I've seen how often you two spend time together and how the both of you interact with each other. Confirming things further is that the both of you tend to kiss each other when you think nobody is around. I don't care about how people see me. But I only ask that you don't treat me like these selfish, moronic nobles. It wasn't hard putting the pieces together." Jin explained to Makoto
"Yang is very important to me Jin, but our relationship isn't the reason. The fact of the matter is that I trust all of them with my life. Which is more than enough reason for me to give them a chance." Makoto stated to Jin
"So if you were in her position, would you have done the same thing?" Jin asked causing Makoto to have a thoughtful look on her face before Jin spoke further
"Since you know my frustrations, then answer me this question. When Yang told you of my argument with Ruby and her team. Did you bother to why didn't anyone question what Ruby or done. Or did anyone try to convince Ruby to tell the truth. Or is this another case of me against everyone?" Jin asked causing Makoto to have a look of guilt on her face
"Just as I thought." Jin said as he went to sleep
"You're not alone as you think, it's just that everything gets complicated very easily." Makoto muttered before fully going to sleep herself
(A hidden Room in HQ)
After the celebration of the group becoming official Huntsmen and Huntresses were finished. Ragna spent a good deal of time with Celica and Saya. Once they were fully alone, Ragna made sure to tell Celica everything that happened after Saya went to sleep. From the situation regarding Cinder. To the threats he's been facing. Even the revelation that Nu is his sister. Ragna even went further to tell her about him and his siblings not being fully human. Once Ragna was done explaining, Celica gently grabbed Ragna's hand.
"I see that you've been through a lot these past few months Ragna. Despite everything you've experienced, I'm glad to see that you haven't lost your heart or your true self. You can be quite stubborn at times, you are still a good person and not the beast that everyone calls you." Celica told Ragna
"Thank you, I'm sorry for placing you and Saya in danger, if I was more careful I could have . . ." Ragna said before Celica stopped him
"Ragna, it wasn't your fault, I went out of my own will to help people. If it wasn't Terumi then it would have been someone else. Don't hold yourself responsible for what happened and that goes for Jin as well. Both of you are part of my family and it tears me apart to hear that you two are blaming each other for what happened. You need to try harder with him. If your feeling this way, then imagine how Jin is feeling." Celica told Ragna
"Your right, I'll keep that in mind. But it doesn't change the fact that I'll protect you two." Ragna stated to Celica
"Thank you Ragna, though I do see that there is a lot more on your mind that's bothering you." Celica told Ragna
"You always notice these things. I'm just worried about how I'm going to deal with Nu. She went through unspeakable torment in her life that made her who she is. She made it clear that she doesn't care about the past and proved her point when she attacked Argus and killed a lot of people. I know she can't get away with that and almost everyone is telling me to deal with her. Ignoring the fact that if she dies then I die as well because of our life link. I don't know if I can do it. I just can't bring myself to stop her even knowing what she's done." Ragna explained causing Celica to look at him with both concerned and a great deal of kindness
"Ragna, I don't know what's the right answer. But the best I can do is tell you what I would do. If it were me, I would keep trying to find a way to save her. Because to me family is important above so many things. If the world can't forgive her for the things she's done. Then work in service of the world to redeem the damage that's been done by her. If the world still can't forgive, then endure the hate and still work in service to the world. Because despite your pain and feelings, the world still needs its heroes and protectors." Celica explained to Ragna causing him to slightly tear up
"Thank you, I know what to do now. Or at the very least I have an idea on how to approach things." Ragna told Celica before Jubei walked in
"Sorry to interrupt this heart to heart but it's getting late and Ragna needs some sleep. I've got something special planned for him and he needs his rest." Jubei told Celica
"But Master, I can . . . ." Ragna said before Celica spoke up
"Don't worry Ragna, Minerva will be here to protect us and its not like anyone will waltz in without anyone knowing." Celica told Ragna
"Fine, but I'll still check in on you. I meant what I said I will not let anything happen to you." Ragna said before he left. Though before he went out of the room. Celica spoke out even further.
"Ragna, I am glad that both you and Jin are back. Hopefully we can make up for lost time as a family. I'm also looking forward to getting to know Noel a lot better. Not to mention that once you save Nu, it will be another happy addition to our family." Celica happily told Ragna
"Nice to see that your optimistic about this." Ragna said before he left the room with Jubei. Once the two made a good deal of distance from the room Celica and Saya are in. Ragna spoke to Jubei
"Master, I know you heard what we talked about. Did you know we are half-human?" Ragna asked in a low tone to make sure nobody overheard, including the surveillance cameras
"Nope, I knew you lived in the labs but I didn't know the gruesome details of your births. When I come across those Murakumo Labs, my first priority is to destroy those labs after rescuing kids and/or future test subjects." Jubei told Ragna causing him to tense up
"Did you know who Hakumen really is?' Ragna asked causing the two to stop walking
"So, you know who he really is?" Jubei asked
"Yes." Ragna answered
"His real identity, I've known for years. I kept it a secret because quite frankly it's a long and complicated story. If I'd have told you sooner would you believe me?" Jubei asked
"It would have been nice to know since he tried to kill me a couple of times." Ragna stated
"Trust me, it would not have made a difference to him." Jubei responded
"Did Celica take us in because . . . . ." Ragna started to ask before Jubei hit him upside the head
"Damn, what the hell was that for?" Ragna asked while rubbing his head
"To knock some sense into you before you ask something ridiculously stupid. Celica loved you guys unconditionally when you three first came into her life. The fight she put up to make the adoption official can give the Black Beast a run for its money. She loves her family and will do anything to protect you all. So if you ever question her love for any of you ever again, I will hit you every time until you get it. Besides, she didn't know anything and even if she did it would not change how she feels about you three. You, Jin, and Saya are her kids. She loves you all and don't think otherwise for a second." Jubei told Ragna causing the young man to smirk
"You know, Yang said something similar." Ragna told Jubei
"Then that means you have a good friend in your corner." Jubei told Ragna
(The Training Room)
Ruby: The next day, once the excitement of being granted our license has worn off. We were told to be prepared for a new norm. Aside from participating in official missions. We will also have to step up our training. Both for everything that's to come after the plan takes into effect. Also to help live up to the new standards that we will be measured to. I'll admit, it was an opportunity that I was very excited about. Being able to help people with the title that I spent my whole life wanting to be made me happy. But what I never thought about, was how complicated everything was going to be. Since what I didn't know at the time. Is that everyone has a different idea on what it means to help people.
Once it the morning has come, Ragna was given specific instructions on where to go and what time to arrive. The reasons for the instructions are to make sure that there is no risk of Ragna being seen by people who don't know he arrived and reduce the chances of causing a panic. Once Ragna arrived, he saw Jin waiting in the same location.
"I hope your not here to cause problems Jin." Ragna told Jin
"Funny, I can tell you the same thing brother." Jin responded which frustrated Ragna
"You know what, I heard about your argument. Just because you did good by Celica and Saya doesn't mean we need to start listening to you." Ragna told Jin
"Maybe if you stop acting like you can do everything. Then you wouldn't create so many problems. For other people to clean up." Jin responded further with the brothers glaring at each other for a few seconds before they entered the room. After a few seconds Ragna spoke.
"We have a truce Jin. For Sister Celica's and Saya sake. We need to honor it, she loves us and she doesn't like to see us fight." Ragna said after taking a deep breath
"Agreed, for Sister Celica and Saya. But don't screw this up." Jin said with Ragna huffing in slight annoyance
"Glad to see you two made it and are lively as ever." Jubei said after he appeared before the two.
"Master, what are you doing here?" Ragna asked
"I called both of you here. But before we get started. We need to get our audience out of hiding." Jubei said which confused the brothers. Though before they spoke, Jubei started to yell
"Team RWBY I know your hiding northwest of us! Team JNR and Oscar your hiding to my back left! Team BLST, you're hiding directly to our right along with Makoto! Ace-Ops, you're hiding to our left! Come on out and have General Ironwood disable the dust functions since he's observing all of this!" Jubei yelled getting everyone out of hiding with various awkward looks. After the dust functions were disabled, General Ironwood spoke over the intercom.
"My apologies Jubei, they overheard and insisted the watched for education and training purposes. I must admit, me and Winter were genuinely curious to see this as well." General Ironwood said
"I'm sorry, we're just so excited. I mean one legendary warrior is cool. But we get to see another one. There's no way we wouldn't pass this up." Ruby said in a slightly embarrassed tone
"A chance to see a legendary Faunus in action. All of us are excited for it." Blake said
"It'll be so cool, I mean I wish I could have this sparring session. But watching is enough and very exciting." Elm excitedly said to Jubei
"I must admit, it will an interesting observation." Vine calmly said
"I see, but don't place too much value on me being a legend. The difference between me and a different Huntsman is that I've been around for a very long time. With enough training, discipline, and passion, anyone can reach my skill and experience." Jubei happily told everyone
"I apologize for how abrupt all of this is. But if it wouldn't be too much trouble, can we watch your sparring session?" Clover asked
"Of course, just don't interfere and stay a good distance away." Jubei told Clover
"We also shouldn't show too much excitement. Remember he is still legend and we need to show professionalism." Marrow said to everyone
"Oh really, I see how excited you are Marrow." Harriet said as she pointed out Marrow's tail rapidly wagging in excitement much to his embarrassment
"Since we're doing a sparring match. How will it go master? I take you on and show Jin how its done and why I'm the better fighter. You did choose me to be your student after all." Ragna said in a boastful tone
"Ragna, don't think that me choosing you automatically makes you better than everyone. From everything I know about you, training you the usual way would be pointless. Since your hotheaded nature will drive someone to quit. Your more of a very extreme special case especially with my expansive experience." Jubei responded causing some of the people to laugh at Ragna before Jubei spoke further
"This sparring session will be the both of you fighting against me. Like I said, I've been around for a long time and since the both of you are on Salem's Raday and by extension Terumi's. It will give me a chance to see where you two can improve and allow me to give pointers on how to fight Terumi properly." Jubei said as he drew his sword
"Don't get in my way Jin." Ragna told Jin as he wielded his sword.
"Same to you brother." Jin responded as he summoned his sword. A brief second later, the brothers charged towards Jubei at an intense speed.
Reacting quickly, Jubei quickly parried Jin's sword attack and swiftly avoided Ragna's sword attack. After Jubei avoided Ragna's sword, he quickly blocked Jin's various sword attacks. Once another attack was blocked, Jubei jumped over Jin and landed a direct kick which pushed him back. Immediately after Jin was pushed back by the kick, Jubei swung his sword to parry Ragna's thrown scythe attack and as a result. The Scythe returned to Ragna and the white-haired young man proceeded to dash towards Jubei with the plan to attack him.
Unfortunately for Ragna, Jubei proceeded to block and parry Ragna's various attacks. Realizing that he needed to change tactics, Ranga used the gun attached to his sword and made several gun blasts at Jubei. Acting quickly, Jubei casually sidestepped each of the gun blasts and once another blast was made. Jubei jumped over the blast and kicked Ragna away. Once Ragna was kicked away, Jubei proceeded to block Jin's sword attacks. This lasted for a few seconds before the two locked swords against each other.
"Hero to Vale and Mistral and this is the best you Jin." Jubei said in a mocking tone before Jin jumped back and made several sword slashes at Jubei.
Jubei effortless avoided each of Jin's sword attacks and after avoiding them. Jubei made a small smirk and moved away from Jin with a large backflip. The reason became immediately clear when after doing so, Ragna was swinging his sword at Jubei as well. Once Jubei moved out of the way, both Ragna and Jin made their attacks but before they realized what Jubei did, they were unable to stop their attacks and attacked each other.
"Damn it, what part of stay out of my way didn't you understand!" Ragna yelled
"Maybe if you held back and paid attention. You could have waited for an opening instead of making things worse." Jin responded
"Which is why you need to stay out of it and let me handle this!" Ragna yelled
"You've been doing such a good job so far. Tell me, were you thinking up strategies as you failed to land a hit against him?" Jin asked
"You have some nerve . . . ." Ragna said before Jubei chimed in
"Arguing with each other instead of forming a plan. No wonder Terumi doesn't see either of you two as a threat." Jubei said to the brothers mockingly before they threw out all restraints and went at him head on.
After mentally sighing at this, Jubei effortlessly dodged each of the brother's attacks. This lasted for a few minutes. Until both Ragna and Jin were in a position to make a decisive attack. The brothers charged at Jubei and before either of them could reach him. Jubei quickly jumped into the air while doing an aerial spin. After doing a spin, the brothers went past Jubei and afterwards, their aura broke.
"As expected I won." Jubei said as he drew his sword
"That's because Jin was determined to get in my way. If he'd have just backed off. I could have handled this spar!" Ragna yelled
"Maybe if you'd have done something other than rushing in we might have gotten some results." Jin responded causing the two to argue
"Are they both like this all the time?" Vine asked in a concerned tone
"Unfortunately, this is the norm. In fact, this is one of the tame and restraint arguments between them." Makoto responded
"YOU BOTH SCREWED UP!" Jubei yelled getting the brothers attention
"Let's start with you Jin. I admit you have incredible talent and skill. But the way you fight doesn't fully reflect that. Proof of this is your use of Yukianesa." Jubei told Jin before he continued
"It is important to develop the skills to use Yukianesa. However, the way you use it is more of a crutch than an asset. How I know this, during our spar not one time did you use your semblance. You've limited yourself to your sword and if you don't fix that, then you won't be able to utilize your full potential." Jubei told Jin
"Hah, that's why you not good enough to be trained by a legendary hero." Ragna said in a bragging tone
"As I said before, the only difference between a legendary and a regular Huntsman is ultimately experience and frankly speaking exaggerated deeds. The fact that a regular Huntsman won't be enough to train you says more about the patients required than anything else." Jubei said much to Ragna's embarrassment before he continued
"Like I said, you messed up too Ragna. Though Jin is overly reliant on his sword. He was at least willing and able to adapt and coordinate. While you continue the bad habit of relying on the time old tactic of overpowering your opponents. Nevermind the fact that you maintaining the lone wolf role in your fights." Jubei scolded Ragna
"Its not my fault that I'm stronger than a lot of people I fight. I do use skills but that's very rarely." Ragna responded
"Alright, what if you fight someone knows how to fight people stronger than them. What'll be your excuse then? Aside from the occasional rare encounter or Jin. You've been a big fish in a small pond. Now with the world seeing you as the Beast of Remnant. You need to be prepared to fight all kinds of threats. Overpowering your opponents all the time will not cut it anymore." Jubei explained to Ragna before he started to address the both of them.
"Luckily for the both of you, I have a training regimen that will solve your individual weaknesses and go a long way to help prepare you for threats like Terumi. A regimen that I will supervise personally." Jubei confidently said before Ruby rushed in with her semblance
"Wow, that was so cool Jubei. The way you move and fight like a master Huntsman. I bet the Grimm will run away from you at first sight huh?" Ruby said with a glint in her eyes
"No they don't run. But if I have their attention, it does mean I get to take care of them instead of them hurting defenseless people." Jubei responded in a humble tone
"You know, since you're here and everything. Would you mind taking on team RWBY? We can learn a lot from you and we really want to see how we compare. Please please please please please?" Ruby pleaded to Jubei with glints in her eyes
"Well, how can I turn you down when I'm asked with such enthusiasm. Sure, I'll spar with you and your team. I gotta warn ya though, Even though I'll be pulling my punches. That doesn't mean I'm going to go easy on any of you. So don't expect me to coddle any of you during the spar. Your sure all of you are still up for it?" Jubei asked Ruby as her and her team approached him armed and ready
"Do you even need to ask?" Yang said in a tone of excitement
"Alright, let's begin." Jubei said before Ruby shouted
"WHITEROSE!" Ruby yelled before she used her semblance to get closer to Jubei.
While Ruby used her semblance, Weiss summoned a glyph and made several ice shard blasts at Jubei. He stood where he was at and waited for Ruby to get closer to him. Once she did, Ruby proceeded to try to attack Jubei. Unfortunately for her, Jubei easily avoided each of the scythe swings. Though this didn't discourage Ruby since a brief second later. A Ruby used her semblance Petal Burst to get away from him the second the light from Weiss's glyph appeared beneath them.
Jubei realized what was happening, as he felt the gravity get intense. A brief second later, Yang dived towards Jubei and proceeded to throw a barrage of punches at him. Reacting quickly, Jubei avoided each of Yang's punches despite the intense gravity. As he was dodging the punches. Jubei noticed a few sounds and quickly figured out what Yang's plan is. Before she could act on it, Jubei used his strength to jump over Yang and proceeded to kick her towards the sticky bombs Yang planted while trying to punch Jubei. After landing the kick, Jubei was out of the gravity glyph and the sticky bombs exploded causing Yang to be launched into the air.
Being launched didn't cause too many problems for Yang. Since Blake threw her sickle at Yang and it was quickly caught. After Yang caught the sickle, she lifted Blake from the ground. Once Blake was in the air, Yang threw her towards Jubei while she proceeded to land on the ground. Once Blake got close, Jubei avoided her and Blake tried to attack him with her weapon. This lasted for a few seconds until he noticed a small flow of aura and Jubei realized what Blake was getting ready to do.
After avoiding a few more attacks. Jubei jumped away from Blake and focused on Ruby trying to attack him with her scythe. After Jubei avoided a few attacks he slid under Ruby's scythe and kicked her towards Blake. Once Ruby hit Blake, it was made clear that it was a clone when Ruby was frozen in ice after the clone dissipated. While Ruby was frozen in ice. Jubei heard a loud noise and when he turned his head, he saw that Weiss summoned a giant knight.
The summoned knight made several attacks at Jubei with its large sword. The legendary warrior proceeded to effortlessly dodge each of them and after a few minutes Jubei completely disappeared. After Yang freed Ruby from the ice, team RWBY spent time looking for Jubei and realized that he disappeared. Even though the team has a moment of breathing room. They know that they cannot let their guard down.
"Where did he go?" Blake asked
"This fight is still going on, he couldn't have gone anywhere." Weiss said
"We have to keep watch of our aura. Most of us are already below half." Yang said as she checked her scroll
"Maybe you should look at your summoning!" Jubei yelled getting the team's attention. Once they looked at him, they saw that Jubei is on the summoning holding on to the back of its neck
Once Jubei was noticed, the summoning tried to shake Jubei off. Unfortunately, Jubei maintained his hold and team RWBY dispersed so they can find an opening to attack him. The team didn't have to wait for too long, since Jubei jumped off of the summoned knight and landed near Blake. Once he landed, the summoned knight proceeded to attack Jubei while Blake jumped out of the way. Unfortunately for Blake, Jubei managed to get closer to Blake and grab the strap of her Gambol Shroud. After doing so, he used his strength to swing Blake towards the attack of the summoned Knight's attack. As a result Blake took the full force of an attack that was meant for Jubei and was knocked into the wall. The moment Blake hit the wall, her aura broke.
Upon seeing this, Yang proceeded to pursuit Jubei and made several punches against him. Jubei noticed the knight attempting to attack him again. This time, both Jubei and Yang moved out of the way and avoided the attack. Once he landed, Yang resumed her relentless punches. After hearing some movement from the summoned knight. Jubei proceeded to duck to avoid Yang's attacks and after doing so he kicked her into the air. After Yang was launched into the air. The summoned knight proceeded to swing its sword at the legendary Faunus. Unfortunately, this is what Jubei wanted. Since before the blade could reach him, Jubei leaped into the air towards Yang and once he reached her. Jubei kicked her down to the ground. Once Yang hit the ground, the impact made her bounce off the ground briefly and allowed her to get hit by the summoned knight and knocked into the nearby wall. With her aura breaking shortly afterwards.
The moment Jubei landed on the ground, Ruby proceeded to fire at Jubei. Acting quickly, Jubei proceeded to avoid the rifle shots and climbed on the summoned knight. This didn't help much since Weiss proceeded to use her glyph to fire several ice shards at him. Causing Jubei to maneuver around the summoned knight. After a few seconds, Jubei held on the torso of the summoned knight and used the sheath of his sword to deflect the rifle shots. Realizing that this won't go anywhere, Ruby used her semblance to get closer to Jubei. Unfortunately, this is what Jubei waited for. Since a brief moment when Ruby went past Jubei. He managed to land a kick and not only did it knock Ruby out of her semblance. Jubei was able to grab her scythe and kick her towards Weiss. Once the summoned knight realized nobody else will get in the way. It tried to grab the agile Faunus. Unfortunately, Jubei used his speed to get to its head and jump off the top of it and reached the ceiling. Once Jubei was at the ceiling he used the strength in his legs to make a dive attack and using Crescent Rose he destroyed the summoning.
After Jubei destroyed the summoning, he proceeded to dash towards both Weiss and Ruby. Seeing him coming, Weiss summoned a glyph and made several ranged attacks to try and slow him down. But Jubei proved to be too quick and proceeded to avoid each of the ranged attacks. Before either Ruby or Weiss realized it. Jubei was close to the both of them and before either of them could act. Jubei spun around with the scythe at an intense speed and in a brief second. Both Ruby and Weiss were knocked back by the attack and immediately afterwards their aura broke.
"And that's that." Jubei said as team RWBY approached Jubei while they recovered their aura
"That was incredible! The way you moved and ducked and dodged out attacks. Even when you used my darling Crescent Rose to take out Weiss's summoning and took us down in one strike. It was all just so awesome." Ruby said with a great deal of enthusiasm
"Despite getting our butts handed to us. I gotta say that it's a worthwhile experience. To have a genuine fight against one of the Legendary Heroes. Is something that most people would never experience." Yang told the group
"We came so far since Beacon, but this sparring match. Makes us look like complete amateurs." Blake said in a slightly somber tone
"Don't feel too bad about it. If anything, all four of you gave me a better challenge than those two over there." Jubei said as he pointed his thumb at Ragna and Jin
"HEY!" The brothers yelled in perfect unison
"It's the truth, while individually the both of you are strong in your own right. Team RWBY shifted their strengths towards working as a team instead of trying to one up each other. When you work as a team, all of you are working towards a common goal. So its imperative that you put your pride aside and compromise where you can." Jubei briefly explained to the brothers
"We gave him a genuine challenge, this day gets better by the second." Ruby happily said
"I'm glad your happy but there are some pointers I can give to each of you. Ruby, your weakness is just as bad as Jin's if not worse. Your heavily reliant on your scythe and your semblance. If you're in a situation where you can't use your weapon. Hand to hand skills can be of use to you. Aura enhances natural strength for a reason." Jubei told Ruby before he looked at Yang
"Yang, you're a natural powerhouse. While its good to see that your not constantly using your semblance. You need to change up your battle tactics once in a while. Those gauntlets of yours are capable of powerful blasts. Using them to enhance your mobility can go a long way in terms of fighting options." Jubei told Yang before he turned to Weiss
"You rely too much on both your semblance and dust. If you fight someone who knows how to turn your summoning into a liability like I did. Then you better hope you have friends or allies around to help you out. Otherwise your career as a huntress will be short lived. That's something you need to work on." Jubei said as he looked at Blake
"Your use of your agility is good. Yet when you use your semblance, a keen eye can tell when your setting someone up. There are a few too many times when I figured out when you were about to use your semblance. Your ability is best suited for those whose attention is divided. Either find a way to distract your enemy or improve your semblance activation time." Jubei told Blake
"Thank you sir." Blake responded
"Last but not least, your teamwork is pretty impressive. Though you also need to work on your own strengths as individuals. Having good team coordination is all well and good but it can also serve as a double edge sword if you're not careful. During our spar, your team moves was telegraphed making it easy for me to predict what you would do as a team. Also because your all so tight knit. It was easy to figure out your own shortcomings and turned your biggest strength into my own tool in the fight." Jubei explained to team RWBY
"Thank you for your advice and pointers. It's a lot to take in but we'll do our best and take your advice to heart." Ruby said with the rest of her team agreeing.
"Mister Jubei sir, I know that you're a very busy legend but if you wouldn't mind . . . ." Jaune started asking before Jubei smiled
"Sure, I can spend the day sparring with you guys. I need to do my part to help the next generation after all." Jubei said much to the cheers of the new Huntsman and Huntresses.
"I'm glad to see that you've all taken a liking to your training." General Ironwood said as he entered the training room.
"Let them have this, because once things get real. They will see how intense the reality of this path gets. Still I doubt you came to check on us. So what brings you here General?" Jubei asked
"I have something I need to show Ragna. It's regarding a certain situation." General Ironwood told Jubei
"Mind if I come along too?" Ruby asked
"It's fine with me, but its ultimately up to Ragna." General Ironwood said
"I have no problem with it, but what about our training?" Ragna asked
"I already have a special training regimen for you and Jin. One that I'll personally supervise to make sure it meets my standards. Even though its just for today, I don't mind spending time with your friends to see where there at. I can even spar with the Ace-Ops if they want. This old body of mine does need the occasional workout." Jubei told Ragna before he got closer to him
"Don't worry, I'll make sure that the training regimen won't kill you." Jubei said as he tapped Ragna's coat.
"Well, since this is settled. Let's get going." General Ironwood said as he led Ragna and Ruby out.
(Military Labs)
Ruby: At the time I didn't know what General Ironwood wanted to see Ragna about. The main reason I went with him was to give him support in case the General was up to something. I wanted to support him since he is still dealing with a lot. Also because I still felt guilty for revealing his origins the way I did. Though when we learned the reason, it was something I never expected.
As both Ruby and Ragna was walking with the General. The three of them made their way to the labs. Ruby found herself amazed at the many scientific wonders that she is seeing right before her eyes. Innovative weapons and new ways to help people have impressed Ruby during the tour. This lasted a few minutes before the trio stopped in front of a door and Ironwood began to speak.
"I understand that Nu is your sister which admittedly complicates the situation in how your going to handle her. But that also leaves another problem. Her role in the Fall of Beacon, being allied with Salem. Also the recent attack on the City of Argus. These are things that can't be ignored. Doing so will be an injustice to her victims." General Ironwood told Ragna
"Are you going to give me a lecture on making hard choices and that I need to suck it up and kill her?" Ragna said in a frustrated tone to the General
"No, though I can't relate directly to your situation. I do understand how complicated it is. I have been told in great detail of the type of experiments that occurs in the Murakumo Labs. Minds broken and altered. Forced to live as a weapon and deprived of a choice to live. As I said earlier, I can't ignore her previous actions. But I can't in good consciousness punish her knowing what she's been through. Fortunately, after doing some thinking and looking at our options and resources. A solution has been found which I'm sure will satisfy everyone." General Ironwood said before he let Ruby and Ragna in the room.
Once they all entered, they were greeted by a startling sight of a containment bed that has many belts. The bed itself has many technological features and the piece of tech that stood out further. Is the head strap at the head of the bed. When Ragna and Ruby looked around the room, they see several monitoring devices and screens. They also see several Scientists in the room and appears to be going over many details with the machines.
"What is this?" Ruby asked
"What you're seeing here is a specialized rehabilitation unit. Initially it was designed for the containment of dangerous individuals." General Ironwood said
"A. K. A., you had this designed to have me contained." Ragna told the General
"That was the initial intent I do admit it. However, when Jubei gave me a lot of needed information. I decommissioned the containment, though it was a shame to let it go to waste. Then I was informed of the inhumane nature of the Murakumo Labs and with all of you telling me that Nu is your sister. With all of these facts, I came to a realization. If given the right alterations, these containments can be used to rehabilitate those who have been experimented on in the Murakumo Labs." General Ironwood explained to Ruby and Ragna
"How will you do it, I doubt being strapped to a metallic bed will do anything as far as Nu's aura and semblance?" Ragna asked the General
"Regarding her aura, a very special material will be used for the containment." General Ironwood said as he brought out a rock that is pitch black on unnatural levels. When Ironwood handed the strange black rock to Ruby. She felt a shocking sensation that she hasn't felt before but can't describe.
"I can't feel my aura, its like a part of my hand had its aura broken and can't recover." Ruby said before she handed the rock back to the General and Ruby felt her aura return
"This rock is called Grimth Ore. If an individual is exposed to this via physical contact. That person will be unable to use there aura as well as there semblance. With refinement and alterations, this becomes an invaluable tool for containment." General Ironwood answered
"How did you come across something like this General?" Ruby asked
"This ore is admittedly not easy to acquire. Because the ore itself is found within areas that's heavily populated by the Grimm. Which makes retrieval a very difficult endeavor. As fore how it came to be. It has been figured out that regular ore that's been submerged in Grimm Liquid for a significant amount of time would change its characteristics. Since the Grimm can't use aura naturally, this is a possible hypothesis." General Ironwood explained to Ruby with Ragna paying attention to the details.
"A stone that prevents people from using aura. I wonder if it can work against Salem?" Ruby thought to herself before General Ironwood spoke further
"As for how she will be rehabilitated, once she is properly contained and not an immediate threat. That is when we will begin the treatment. Our research has shown that if an individual is unable to use aura, their mental strength is weakened as well and susceptible to hypnosis. Once Nu is contained, it will be the perfect chance for us to use intense hypnotherapy." General Ironwood told the two which surprised Ruby
"Brainwashing, your going to brainwash Nu!?" Ragna asked in a tone that's a mix of anger and shock
"I know how it sounds but . . . ." General Ironwood said before Ragna interrupted him
"This isn't much different than what you wanted to do to Pyrrha back at Beacon. You'll brainwash her, change her very identity." Ragna stated
"I know it looks concerning but please bare in mind that we are still ironing out the details. This can help not only your sister, but this can also give everyone who suffered in the Murakumo labs a chance at a normal life." General Ironwood told Ragna and Ruby causing Ragna to walk out of the room in a hurry
"My apologies, I should have eased him into this. But this is the best middle ground. It ensures that Nu will be given the help she needs. While making sure that she is no threat to anyone ever again. I can't stress enough that Nu is extremely dangerous." General Ironwood explained to Ruby
"I understand General Ironwood, I will try to explain things to him." Ruby told the General
Ruby: Though I hate to admit it, there is a part of me that agreed with General Ironwood. Nu is dangerous and extremely powerful. But there is another part of me that believes that this is extreme and hopes there is another way to help her. As for how Ragna felt, he made his disgust at the idea clear. Also since we didn't fully trust the General, there is a fear that there is something he's not telling us. A feeling that became shared, which I will learn later that day.
(The Alley)
Once it became late, Ragna waited until nobody would notice before he made his way to the City of Mantle. Made it a point to leave early so that he could meet up with a couple of people before he went towards his destination. It shouldn't take them long to arrive, so the early time gave him a chance to think about what happened. The training was something he expected. But what bothered him is the method to help Nu. As Ragna stated, the method in which they would do it rubbed Ragna the wrong way. Since the method would ultimately get rid of her identity. A process that is similar to what was expected to happen to Pyrrha if she had succeeded in becoming the Fall Maiden.
"Damn it, if they do that to Nu, she could be an entirely different person. It shouldn't even be a problem since I know nothing about her. But it still doesn't sit right with me. She'll have a normal life but her choices won't be her own. It's a fresh start, but it still feels like there is more to it." Ragna said to himself before he looked at his scroll to see the time.
"They should have been here by now, where are they?" Ragna asked before a familiar voice spoke to him
"We're here Ragna." Yang said accompanied by Ruby
"I know you said that you'll bring Ruby along but you still didn't have to bring her." Ragna told Yang
"If you're going out in the middle of the night to do something mysterious. Then it must be important so I figured Ruby should be with us. But you didn't have to have me with you." Yang told Ragna
"It's like I promised Yang, I refuse to keep you in the dark again. The last time I did, it cost you an arm and I played a role in that. I know your still angry and haven't fully forgiven me for it. But I want to at least try to make amends." Ragna stated as Yang and Ruby looked at the mechanical arm. Which serves as a permanent reminder to Ragna's recklessness and Nu's brutality.
"I'm glad to see your keeping your word Ragna. But that begs the question, why are we even here?" Yang asked
"Do you need our help in dealing with a powerful Grimm?" Ruby asked
"No, but we are meeting someone." Ragna said before a gruff voice spoke up
"Glad to see you all here." Jubei said as he came out of the shadows
"Master Jubei, its good to see you but what are you doing here?" Ruby asked
"I slipped a little note into Ragna's coat for him to meet me here. I didn't expect him to bring some company along. So I would like to assume he has a good reason. Though given what I just heard it makes sense. It might even be helpful in a few ways." Jubei quickly answered
"So that training was just an excuse to slip him the note for you to meet up with him?" Ruby said
"Nope, Ragna and Jin definitely needed the training. Though I can't just ask him to meet up with me. Since there are a lot of camera and drones around. Discretion was needed, something I'm sure you can relate to when you told General Ironwood that lie about the Relic and Ozpin." Jubei said which surprised the group
"I um . . . don't know what your talking about . . . ." Ruby said before Jubei cut her off
"Ruby, I've been around a long time. So I have a way of knowing when someone is lying or keeping secrets. Lying isn't part of your nature so it was easy to figure it out. Don't worry, I won't press you for the truth, I just hope you know what you're doing. Nobody likes being lied to and if handled poorly, it will blow up in your face. I still got some secrets of my own so I can understand. But that's not what this meeting is about." Jubei explained before Ragna spoke up
"What did you want to meet about master?" Ragna asked Jubei in a tone that's mixed with curious and impatient
"It's about two interesting people of interest, both Nu and Terumi." Jubei said getting the small group's attention before he spoke further
"I'll start with Nu, as you three know. She has the other half of the Grimm Aura. Which means that in terms of raw power. She is just as strong as Ragna, at least that's how it was initially." Jubei said which surprised the group further
"What do you mean by initially?' Yang asked dreading the answer
"From what was disclosed since you all arrived here in Atlas. Nu holds both half of the Black Beasts power and is also the Fall Maiden. Thanks to that boost in power she got when she killed Cinder. Nu as it currently stands is now stronger than Ragna in terms of raw power. Having a lot of power isn't everything but I will admit that it'll make things even harder. Frankly speaking, her unstable mind is the only thing giving you lot a fighting chance against her. Though her chaotic nature is just as worrying." Jubei explained to the group
"Damn, I suspected as much but hearing it isn't easy." Ragna said voicing his thoughts on the news
"It's not all bad, in fact I was getting to the main topic regarding Nu and it involves your friend." Jubei told the group as he pointed at Ruby
"It involves me?" Ruby asked in a curious tone
"Yep, or more specifically your silver eyes. Now tell me, what do you know of your Silver-Eyes power?" Jubei asked
"I know that its rare and supposed to help people. It can also destroy the Grimm." Ruby answered
"That's more or less accurate, a certain blonde individual told me a few more interesting details. The Silver-Eyes power is rare and a threat to the Grimm. Though there is more to it than you know. It has the power to disrupt magic no matter the origin." Jubei told Ruby
"The power to disrupt magic, that's why Nu was hurt when I used it. But why didn't work on Ragna when he . . . ." Ruby said as she guiltily looked at Ragna
"That's because of the nature of the Grimm Aura and the Silver-Eyes. Or more specifically, what was used to create the Black Beast. Even though Nu has the Grimm Aura, her becoming the Fall Maiden has given her a very critical weakness." Jubei told the group
"My Silver-Eyes, because Nu is the Fall Maiden. She can now be affected by the power of my Silver-Eyes, despite her having the other half of the Black Beast's power." Ruby briefly explained the realization
"This is big, we have a way to fight against Nu." Yang said at the realization
"It gets better, the power of the Silver-Eyes can also grow. But because the trait is so rare we don't know the full extent of the growth. So its important for you to harness that power." Jubei told Ruby
"We have a way to fight her, but we can't just turn her in to Ironwood." Ragna told everyone
"Is this about what we saw today?" Ruby asked
"yeah, if we do subdue Nu, what's stopping the General from turning her into a weapon. It'll be just like what happened to my birth mother. Did any of you forget that little detail?" Ragna said which gave the sisters a major reminder.
"There's more to the details regarding Nu." Jubei said as he got everyone's attention
"The Silver-Eyes can disrupt magic and is a major weakness to Nu since she has the powers of the Maiden. But if capture can't be done, killing her is an option. Because the Silver-Eyes can also disrupt the Life-Link. So if you have no choice but to kill her, then the Silver-Eyes will make it so that there is no threat to Ragna. But the catch is that she has to be killed by the power of the Silver-Eyes. In short it has to be Ruby that kills her with her special power." Jubei explained to the group
"I . . . . have to kill her with my power." Ruby said in a shocked tone at what she would have to do if she wanted to save Ragna
"Let me make it clear, I'm not telling any of you what to do. I'm just explaining the situation and informed you of all known options. What choice you make is entirely up to you. Stuff like this is common for Huntsmen and Huntresses." Jubei told the group
"There are options, it's just a lot to take in." Ruby told Jubei who is visibly bothered by what she was told regarding an option to deal with Nu that won't endanger Ragna. Before anyone could comment, Jubei spoke further
"There is also another thing you need to be informed of and its regarding Terumi." Jubei said which got everyone's attention.
"As you know, an agreement was made for me to come to Atlas in your stead. It was to prevent your situation from getting worse. But what you didn't know is that this was what I wanted. Because I needed to come to Atlas and Winter's little mission made things very convenient for me." Jubei told the group
"Why did you need to come to Atlas under the guise of a capture?" Ragna asked
"Because its about Terumi, I fought him at Beacon and though it was brief. I did my own line of investigations and I can confirm something. Terumi is here in Atlas." Jubei said which gave everyone a major shock at the realization. In which that Ragna also became noticeably angry.
"Where is that son of a bitch?" Ragna asked while containing a great deal of his anger
"Calm down Ragna, its not as simple as you think. I don't know exactly where he is, but I do know that he his current objective involves this Kingdom. So if he isn't here now, he will return sooner or later. The reason you all need to up your training is because soon you'll have to fight him." Jubei explained to Ragna with Yang speaking up
"Why didn't you tell General Ironwood about any of this? This is crucial information that we need to know." Yang asked Jubei
"Are you really in a position to lecture me about that Yang. Considering that all of you are keeping secrets from the General. I respect your decision so I ask that you respect mine. Besides your input will determine the right approach." Jubei answered
"What do you mean our response?" Ruby asked
"Something you need to know is that Terumi is someone you cannot underestimate. He has tricks up his sleeves that we haven't even dared to think of. He also has a way of getting in your head. He's strong as he is dangerous and he is not an idiot. So we need to be very mindful of our approach regarding him." Jubei said before he continued to explain
"As you can tell, the General is at the edge dealing with everything that's going on. If I tell him about Terumi, then it'll push him over the edge and he'll make destructive decisions. So telling him that Terumi is in this Kingdom will consume him with fear, paranoia, and worse desperation. Pushing someone to desperation will make problems worse and it's the last thing we need." Jubei told the group
"So why tell us if you have a reason to not tell the General, or any of our friends for that matter?" Yang asked Jubei
"Like I told Qrow, the time for secrets is over. Unfortunately, Terumi is a complicated issue. I wanted to discuss with Ragna is whether or not to tell everyone." Jubei answered
"There's some pros and cons to this decision master. Something I know your already aware of." Ragna told Jubei
"If we tell him, there's the risk of making things worse. Terumi can read people like a book and if a lot of people know he's here and has plans for Atlas. We could unintentionally tip our hands and give him an edge to whatever he's planning." Jubei told the group
"Not to mention it'll fill us with negativity. Which will make Terumi stronger because of his semblance, he's already dangerous enough as it is." Ruby told Jubei
"Another option is to keep quiet about him. As long as the three of us knows and keep quiet about it, then it'll reduce the risk of Terumi gaining an advantage. Along with the added awareness of being prepared for when he makes his move. Nobody likes being kept in the dark. So whether or not they'll be understanding is another issue entirely." Jubei explained to the group
"What do you think Ragna?" Yang asked Ragna
"I learned the hard way what'll happen if we rush him recklessly. I say we keep it a secret, we can't risk getting him any advantages. But if you two want to tell everyone I won't oppose it. We learned what happened the last time I did it." Ragna told everyone
"I don't know to be honest, it's already bad enough that we're keeping secrets from Ironwood. I understand why but if we keep doing it, then we won't be any different from Ozpin." Yang said in a conflicted tone
Ruby: Learning all of that, was a lot to take in at once. For Nu, my Silver-Eyes is a powerful weakness that will give us a chance against Nu. But to deal with her in a way that saves Ragna. I would have to kill her with my power. The thought of it left me lost in thought. At the time it was the furthest thing from my mind. Especially with the details regarding Terumi. A part of me wanted to use my semblance to look for him. To kill him for him killing my mom. But when I thought about my emotions, I realized that if I'm feeling like this. Then it made me wonder how Yang felt. Then I had to think about how everyone would feel that Terumi is among us. Some of our friends barely survived against him and he was holding back. The fear that he was in the Kingdom with us was already bad enough. But the fact that he has plans for Atlas and we have no idea what it was. Made the sense of dread I had worse. Which will push everyone to the extreme. I thought about everything, and after that I came to a decision.
"The risk is too great, we can only hope that everyone will understand. For now, until we have a way to confront Terumi. We will have to keep this a secret, we tell no one." Ruby told everyone in a confident tone
(A/N)
I had a different idea for this chapter but looking at the pacing and the rewrites I did. I ultimately went with this current chapter.
Also, I need to give a heads up, from what I'm seeing of the concepts I have. Volume 7 of this story is going to be long until further notice. As a result it will mean longer wait time between chapters. Both for quality purposes and due to personal circumstances that is currently going on. Rest assured, this story is not cancelled, however I still want to do work on my other stories. I also have a guideline for when Aura of the Azure will officially end but its too soon for those discussions. What I can confirm is that we are roughly past the halfway point of the overall story.
So read and review
Thank you
