Naruto x 5 Sisters – The Bodyguard Mission
Part 7: The Sand Siblings
The day before the Chūnin Exams, Naruto decided to take a walk around the village to clear his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about the upcoming challenges and how he would finally prove himself—not just to the village but to the Takahashi sisters. His thoughts spiraled around how his performance would change their perspective of him, transforming him from a mere bodyguard into a true hero in their eyes.
As he passed through the park, Naruto heard a commotion near the swings.
"Let me go!" a familiar voice shouted.
Naruto looked over and saw Konohamaru being held up by his scarf. The boy was dangling helplessly in the grasp of a tall, tan-skinned ninja wearing face paint. A bad feeling churned in Naruto's stomach; he never liked bullies, especially when it was someone close to him.
"Hey! Put him down!" Naruto shouted, sprinting toward the scene, his fists clenched.
The ninja—Kankurō—turned, smirking as he tightened his grip on Konohamaru. "And who are you supposed to be?" His eyes narrowed, sizing up the rash kid rushing toward him.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki, and I don't like bullies!" Naruto growled, his determination evident. The dramatic confession echoed in Naruto's mind as his inner image formed a powerful resolve.
Kankurō laughed, amusement dancing in his eyes. "This brat ran into me, so I'm teaching him a lesson. Stay out of it, or you'll regret it." The menace in Kankurō's tone was clear, but Naruto didn't flinch.
Naruto felt the heat of his rage rising. "Oh, yeah? Let's see about that!"
--
Before Naruto could act, a new voice rang out, cutting through the tension like a cold wind.
"Kankurō, stop messing around," a red-haired boy ordered. His voice was steady and authoritative, grounding the chaotic scene.
Naruto turned his attention to the new arrivals. The speaker had a gourd strapped to his back and an intense, cold demeanor that sent shivers down Naruto's spine. Beside him stood a blonde girl holding a fan, her sharp eyes scanning the scene, calculating and vigilant.
"Tch. Fine," Kankurō muttered before dropping Konohamaru to the ground with a thud.
"Are you okay?" Naruto asked, rushing to help Konohamaru to his feet, his concern overpowering the earlier adrenaline rush.
"Yeah, thanks, boss!" Konohamaru said, rubbing his neck in discomfort but grinning up at Naruto, clearly impressed.
Naruto turned back to the newcomers, trying to keep his composure despite the lingering tension. "Who are you guys?" he inquired, curiosity mixing with his irritation.
The red-haired boy answered first with a stoic coolness. "I'm Gaara. These are my siblings, Kankurō and Temari. We're from Sunagakure, here for the Chūnin Exams."
"Sunagakure, huh?" Naruto said, sizing them up. "Well, try not to cause trouble while you're here." His bravado didn't go unnoticed, and he could see a glint of amusement in Temari's sharp eyes.
Kankurō scoffed, amusement flickering on his face, but he opted to stay silent, while Temari smirked, clearly impressed by the boldness of the blonde from Konoha.
--
Before the conversation could continue, the Takahashi sisters appeared, their laughter infectious as they approached Naruto, vibrant and full of life.
"There you are, Naruto!" Rika said, a bright smile lighting up her face. "We've been looking for you."
They froze when they saw the Sand siblings, their eyes darting nervously between them as the mood shifted.
"Who are they?" Isabella asked, her voice wavering with uncertainty.
Naruto gestured to the trio, his pride bolstered by their recent introduction. "These are Gaara, Kankurō, and Temari. They're here for the Chūnin Exams." He tried to infuse confidence into his words, hoping it would ease the sisters' anxiety.
At the mention of the Sand siblings, the sisters visibly relaxed when they realized the trio wasn't an immediate threat.
Rika crossed her arms, her expression skeptical. "Well, as long as they don't get in Sasuke-kun's way."
Temari raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the gathering. "Are these your fans, Naruto?" she teased, a smirk playing on her lips.
Naruto groaned, running a hand through his spiky hair in exasperation. "Not even close."
--
Before things could get more awkward, Sasuke and Sakura arrived on the scene, catching the buzz of excitement and confusion.
"What's going on here?" Sasuke asked, his tone calm but alert, taking in the surrounding figures and the tension in the air.
"Oh, great, Sasuke-kun is here!" Zara said, practically swooning as her gaze fixated on Sasuke, her cheeks lighting up in a rosy hue.
"We were just introducing ourselves," Temari said, giving Sasuke an appraising look that suggested that she was assessing his abilities and strength.
Naruto sighed, the reality of his situation settling around him like a heavy cloak. "These guys are from the Sand Village. They're here for the exams, too."
Sakura stepped forward, her protective instincts flaring as she scrutinized the newcomers. "Well, as long as there's no trouble, it's fine. Let's go, Naruto—we've got training to do. Right?"
Naruto nodded, glancing back at the Sand siblings. "See you at the exams. And try to stay out of trouble."
Gaara didn't respond but instead lingered with his gaze on Naruto for a moment longer than comfortable, assessing him with the piercing intensity that made Naruto squirm a little before he turned and walked away with Kankurō and Temari.
As Naruto followed his team, he could hear the sisters gushing over Sasuke behind him, their chatter a blend of admiration and infatuation.
"Of course, they'd ignore me again," he muttered to himself, shaking his head at the disappointment that had become all too familiar. But deep down, he couldn't shake the burning eagerness to demonstrate his worth in the Chūnin Exams—to finally show everyone, especially the Takahashi sisters, that he was more than just a protector; he was a formidable ninja in his own right.
--
Training that afternoon consisted of intensive drills led by Sakura, who aimed to ensure that Naruto was sharp and ready for the examinations. The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the training field as the group honed their techniques.
"Focus, Naruto! You need to do the Rasengan with precision," Sakura instructed, her brows furrowed in concentration as she demonstrated the jutsu yet again. Sasuke observed in silence, his expression unreadable, while the sisters provided encouragement from the sidelines.
Naruto was pumped—even with the memories of Kankurō's earlier taunts lingering in the back of his mind. He could feel the energy from the sisters as they cheered for him. It pushed him, igniting a flame of determination within.
"I'll do it! Just watch!" Naruto exclaimed, summoning his chakra and focusing intently. The swirling energy formed in his palm, gradually taking shape.
As he executed the technique, the Rasengan emitted a bright light and was finally launched with all his might. The small training dummy exploded on impact, sending wood flying through the air.
Sakura clapped her hands together, her brow unknitting into a proud smile. "See?! That's what I'm talking about!"
Sasuke smirked, a rare moment of approval passing over his usually stoic face. "Not bad. You just need to control your chakra better during the exam."
"I can do this!" Naruto declared, adrenaline and excitement coursing through him.
As he caught the wide eyes of the Takahashi sisters, he felt an internal sense of validation. Today, despite the earlier encounter with the Sand siblings, he had proven to himself and others—he could rise to the occasion.
Still contemplating the competitive rivalry that lay ahead in the Chūnin Exams, the thrill of the upcoming challenges danced in his heart. He could feel the tide shifting, and he would ensure that this time, when it came down to the important moments, Naruto Uzumaki would no longer be overlooked.
