When he came round he was in a different place. He guessed he was in the hospital. Someone sat with him. He caught a flash of red material. A glimpse of a woman moving toward him. A young nurse with long auburn hair and tired eyes. She was wearing a cardigan, brilliant red, over her old fashioned white nurse's uniform.
Lisa helped him to his feet and eased him on to the examination table. He felt her hand stroke his cheek.
"Harry." she said softly as he opened his eyes. She pulled up a chair and sat opposite. She smiled sympathetically.
"Lisa, what happened? Where's Alessa and Dahlia?"
"There's no one here but you and me. I just woke up too, there's no need to get upset."
"No need? I just lost my friend, my good friend. She died in my arms…" Harry was crying.
The nurse lent forward and rested her hand on his.
"Hey, things here are frightening and painful, it's just suffering all the time. At least she's escaped that; she's gone to a better place."
They sat for a while as he struggled to compose himself.
"Harry, listen, something you said before has been bothering me. I just couldn't get it out of my head...so I went to look in the basement. Even though I was as scared as hell. Like you said there were these creepy rooms, but nothing really unusual down there. But while I was down there, I got this weird feeling. Like I've been there before. Like something happened there but I can't quite remember it. What was it?" She trailed off, as though she were afraid of what she might say next, "Harry…help me…I'm so scared. I can't take this."
She buried her head in her hands, visibly shaken.
"It's okay, you'll remember in a while." He tried to sound reassuring.
He reached out, wanting to soothe her the way she had for him. She brushed his hand away and stood, defiant.
"No. You don't understand…" She turned and walked away, slamming the door behind.
"Wait! Don't go! Lisa!" he called out. She didn't hear him or chose not to answer.
He stood, surprised by Lisa's sudden anger.
He had no desire to be alone. His grief was strong as was his fear of what horror might come next. Hurriedly, he set off after Nurse Garland.
