Chapter 7 – Mischief by Daisy
Daisy Oak was not normally the type to play pranks. Her basic nature was kind, considerate, and outgoing. It had served her well when she had chosen to walk the path of a coordinator instead of a battler during her own Journey. It continued to served her well every day, even now that she was a researcher, as that nature was broadcast to pokémon via her aura. Yet, despite that, she was planning mischief now. It was, of course, entirely 2B's fault. Her friend had broken Daisy's reality one too many times in the last year.
She didn't fault her friend for that. Indeed, as a scientist she enjoyed the challenges 2B had presented with each successive blow to her previous reality. As such, despite what she was currently up to being entirely 2B's fault, the truth was that it was only about five percent aimed at her friend. The other ninety five percent was aimed at an entire world of poor fools who had so far been spared from 2B's unintentional and well-intentioned insanity. Those people hadn't had their reality broken repeatedly. This, Daisy felt, was entirely unfair.
Sure, she could just let nature take its course. 2B's battling alone was going to cause a few Gym Leaders, and possibly some Elite Four members and Ace Trainers, to cry. The Battlecast reviews of her matches were going to make people twitch, too. As would the results of any number of research papers that were likely to follow in 2B's well-intentioned but oblivious wake. That all, however, was the sort of world-shattering that was almost normal in their world. Daisy had been subjected to the more casual, prolonged, lack of common sense that would have caused a less sturdy soul to develop a permanent eyebrow twitch. Hers, thankfully, was still only intermittent, and she was certain it would go away eventually!
Everyone else was just going to have to suffer at least some of the same.
It was only fair.
It was also, as one might expect, entirely 2B herself that had made Daisy realize the possibilities. She did have a way of making one think outside the box. Even if it was mostly because 2B didn't realize there was a box, had belonged in an entirely different box to start with, and was stubborn enough that Daisy was fairly sure she'd broken that box through ignorance of its existence too. It was this fact that had, once again, occurred to Daisy as she'd watched arguably her best friend tie a blindfold around her eyes like it was normal.
Not some medical blindfold, piratical eyepatch, or showy looking contest theme piece either. Nope. The silky, black blindfold looked exactly like the sort of kinky bedroom-wear thing one of her old coordinator friends with an S theme had been into. The fact that it turned out to be some sort of hyper-powerful combat visor only made her once against realize that whoever had designed the uniforms of 2B and her android kin had been a pervert. An unrepentant one.
But that was okay. It meant that, despite Daisy tactfully getting 2B a number of more normal outfits than that fetish-maid-wear she'd arrived in, the girl herself was just flat out unaware that she'd looked like some sort of teenage-hormone-induced-daydream. It also meant that, with some emergency help from a few old coordinator friends for a quick pre-journey wardrobe overhaul, she could heighten the effect of that blindfold without 2B realizing what was going on.
Daisy couldn't help the maniacal giggle that slipped out as she pictured guys and girls alike reacting to the 'delicate, blind goth girl' doing 2B things. Like smacking down a Gyarados physically, shooting energy beams, or utterly demolishing some challenger with pink and blue balls of adorable fluff instead of dark and ghost types. The entire world would be subjected to what Daisy had been forced to deal with daily! It was going to be glorious…
... ...
Daisy's companion, Mitsumi, froze as they rounded the path and got a good look at where all the noise was coming from. Daisy, perfectly content to let someone else be startled by 2B's insanity for a change, focused more on her friend than on what seemed to be 2B's Vulpix being forced to carve a crude statue of Professor Oak. Of course, said Vulpix was doing that with nothing but bizarre variants of the move Ice Shard, all while frantically dodging dozens of tiny, fairy-fueled bullets of energy that Jigglypuff was shooting at her.
Daisy was used to such sights, but she was certainly deeply enjoying the look of confused disbelief on Mitsumi's face as her friend tried to process what she was seeing. Mitsumi had followed a similar path in life to Daisy, being a coordinator first before becoming an assistant to Professor Rowan over in Sinnoh. Their similarity of both background and current occupation meant they'd kept in touch over the years. Just as importantly, Mitsumi had started with a very punk style as a teen, only to grow into a dark gothic style as she aged. A style that Daisy knew would look amazing on 2B…and that 2B wouldn't think twice about since a lot of it resembled the outfit she'd first arrived with.
"…Daisy, just what sort of crazy have you dragged me into this time?"
Daisy giggled. It wasn't her fault that her grandfather tended to attract unusual trainers.
"Nothing but a makeover! Don't worry, despite appearances, she's not a battle maniac. And she's unlikely to resist us treating her as a dress up doll. So this will be fun!"
Mitsumi shook her head slowly. Out of disbelief or an attempt to banish what she was seeing from reality, Daisy wasn't sure.
"Besides, that poor Vulpix will likely be our best friend for life, for dragging 2B away from it for a few hours!"
Mistumi snorted, but the joke was enough to get her moving again. Though Daisy wasn't sure how much of a joke it was. The poor Vulpix had looked like it was regretting every life choice leading up to its current moment, the last time Daisy had seen it up close. Not because 2B had pushed it beyond its limits, but because she'd made the poor thing horribly dizzy with new ideas and crazy training scenarios…and also pushed it right up to its limit without going the slightest bit over. Somehow.
... ...
2B cocked her head, then hummed mildly in approval as she looked in the mirror. Whatever Daisy might think, 2B did have some sense of fashion. Which wasn't to say she understood it, exactly. But when Daisy had insisted she have more than one outfit, 2B had spent time collating information from the primitive pokénet on what people considered looked 'good.' With some more additional data from Daisy, she'd created a subset that qualified clothing as 'looks good on me.'
The current outfit only matched some of the criteria of that dataset, as Daisy had attempted previously to get her to wear a greater variety of color. Yet, where it fell through on those data points, it matched neatly with the uniforms that Humanity had made for her kind. Thus, 2B happily mentally tallied it as another configuration of clothing that would 'look good' on her. Better yet, the material chosen was of better quality than the sundresses and such Daisy had gotten her to wear.
It would last much longer in the field.
Turning, she looked at the outfit from the back. Much to Daisy's apparent embarrassment, her friend had insisted that 2B's 'rear was her best feature, and she should show it off.' 2B wasn't entirely sure about that, though she did remember 9S seeming to enjoy following behind her a bit more than his gung-ho personality had justified. She was also quite certain she'd caught Daisy looking a time or two as well. Particularly when she'd been teaching 2B to swim. Thus, it seemed logical that Mitsumi was right. The fact that she felt something vaguely pleasant and warm flood her now-human body when she caught someone looking at her body appreciatively certainly wasn't a deterrent either. Surely that was meant as positive reinforcement by human biology.
Hmmm, yes. The tight black pants did properly show her 'rear,' if 2B understood the concept correctly. At least for now. Her body going through 'growth' had been a new and odd experience, and Daisy claimed it wasn't done yet. Which might limit how long this pair of leather pants was good for. At least this particular outfit was nicely practical compared to the 'Gym Battle Outfit' that more closely resembled her old combat dress, and certainly more than the 'Coordinator Outfit' that had included cat ears for a reason 2B did not understand.
The fact that Daisy had called those ears and that outfit adorable did mean she would likely match her pokémon, which did seem like a coordinator thing. So it was okay if she didn't quite understand it yet, she was sure. Though she felt it unlikely she'd use the Coordinator Outfit enough to wear it out. With her current outfit there was at least a chance, making 2B decide it was probably a worthwhile addition. Not, of course, that Daisy would steer her wrong.
Satisfied with this particular selection, she opened the door to show her two companions for the day, seeking their final approval. Hopefully, this would be the last of the current 'daily travel' set they had insisted she have. There was still the 'swimwear' that would be needed, after all, and there were other items on Daisy's list for 'essential journey equipment.' She was seeing the advantages of having accidentally become wealthy through her work on the item storage and transfer systems. Who knew that being a trainer was so expensive? Well, she was sure if Daisy thought she needed all these things, than they would come in handy eventually. And maybe 2B could look for ways to help other trainers bare these expenses with her own wealth? It was only right to look after Humans that needed it, even if she was Human now herself…

Author's Note 1: So, a farther note on her clothes. Frankly? I couldn't actually find any images that struck me as exactly what I was looking for. I might make a poor attempt at drawing something myself in the future. For now, your imaginations will have to do. Daisy and Mitsumi went ham and built 2B a wardrobe of punk and goth type clothing both, neither of which I could find great examples of. Her practical traveling clothes lean punkish. Her official battling and contest clothes (Daisy and Mitsumi are ex-coordinators, they insisted battles need special clothes) lean towards 2B's half-fetish/half-gothic roots. Yes, complete with heels and elaborate embroidery.
Authors Note 2: Shockingly enough, this story actually one the December Patron Poll for updating a secondary short story (it unseated Halfway Broken after 11 months of victories by that story!).
