One day, the prince sits on a bar stool in front of his older friend. He takes a sip of the Shirley Temple the bartender had made while talking to Viola, who was sitting next to him, "Oh man, Nyx's eyes are so pretty... I know I can talk to her but is it too early to ask her to start dating? It definitely is, right? Definitely! Yeah! Oh man, should I say something to my dad?"
The fallen angel smiled while shrugging her shoulders, "I-"
Francis interrupted her with a shout, "No, you're right! Dad would probably send her family a letter asking them for permission for us to be engaged! I can't do that, she'd get upset, right?"
The white haired woman took a second to respond, "...Probably? This is reminding me of something but I can't quite place my finger on it..." She took a sip of the Shirley Temple Husk had placed on the table for her, "Why are you being so nervous? You guys have time, you're both kids."
Cricket ruffled the prince's hair upon hearing the boy ramble, "Hey, if I didn't know any better... I'd say you kinda DO remind me of Matthew!"
Francis looked between the two men, "Matthew? Who's Matthew?"
The cat demon shakes his head, "Nobody you need to know about, kid."
The rabbit sinner smirked while he shrugged his shoulders, "Hey, come on, Husk. You know if you don't tell him, I will."
Husk rolled his eyes at this, "You son of a b-... Fine!" He then shrugged his shoulders, "He's my son from when I was still alive, you happy now?"
Francis's eyes widened upon hearing this, "Woah!" He bounced in his seat with a smile, "That's... So... Cool! I'd love to hear more about him! Are we getting a story time about your mysterious past?!"
Husk raised his eyebrow at the sight of his excitement, "I didn't say-"
The prince immediately ran to the stairs and yelled, "CHARLIE! COME DOWN HERE! Husk is going to tell us about his family!"
The older sister's footsteps can be heard while she rushes down the stairs, "Really?!" All of a sudden, she appears in front of her brother, "Oh my gosh, I have been WAITING for Husk to open up about his past!" She sits next to her little brother when Viola gives her the seat, "Go on, Husk! Take your time but I am so excited to hear about it!"
Before they knew it, everyone was sitting in front of the bar. Well, besides Alastor and Lucifer, who were on opposite ends of the hotel. Husk rubbed his eyebrows upon seeing Angel Dust, "Am I really doing this?"
The spider demon waved his hand, "Go on, scruffy. Don't want to disappoint everyone, do ya?"
Husk took a deep sigh before beginning to speak, "One night... I was playing a game of poker with Cricket here in our favorite bar..."
Now on an older Earth... A young man with black, curly hair with sideburns and a few hairs on his chin sits at a poker table. He had sharp dark brown eyes and dark skin. He was wearing a black tuxedo, a red bowtie, a white shirt, and black shoes. He was sitting next to a much taller young man with darker skin, though it was littered with lighter splotches of skin. He had black hair in an afro style, his hair even had white splotches. He was wearing a pink, long sleeved collared shirt with brown patches on the elbows, a long red tie, dark brown pants with a black belt and black shoes.
The taller man bumped his friend's elbow with his own before shoving his chips forward, "I'm all in, boys!"
This causes the other men at the table to put their cards on the table, revealing the numbers and results. One man was about to take the chips before the shortest man at the table, put his cards on the table, "Full house! Read 'em and weep!"
While the smaller man started to drag in his winnings, a woman hesitantly walked towards the table. She had dark brown hair in a bun, soft light brown eyes and dark brown skin. She is wearing a long, pale yellow dress, blue earrings, black dress shoes with white socks and a pearl necklace.
The tall man bumped his friend's arm with his elbow, "Uh, Graham, you got a lady friend comin' over."
Graham raised an eyebrow at this, "I do? What are you talking about, Earnest?" He turns his head towards the woman when his friend points, "Need somethin', little lady?"
To his surprise, the woman sat in his lap... Though unknown to him, she had slipped on an ice cube on the floor.
The man's eyes widen when the woman sits in his lap, "Well! It's not every day a lady falls into my lap!"
The lady in yellow felt her cheeks heat up, "Oh, um... I, um... Well you see!"
Earnest rolls his eyes at the sight, "Ugh, come on, Graham! Ya gotta focus here!"
The short man relaxed back in his seat, "Ey, you sound like someone who's jealous a pretty lady ain't sitting in his lap right now." He smiled at the woman while his friend rolled his eyes, "What's your name? You want a drink, ma'am?"
The smaller woman smiled at him while playing with her fingers, "It's Rosemary! Oh no thank you, I actually don't drink any of that stuff."
Graham raised an eyebrow with a smile, "Then why are you in a bar?"
Rosemary nervously smiled at the man, "I, um... Friends!"
...
Back outside of the flashback, Francis smiled at the cat demon, "Hehe, did she really say that?" He turned behind him to look at Viola and giggle. Which made the fallen angel rub the back of her neck awkwardly.
Husk smiled at the memory, "Yeah, it was such an awkward answer. But it was kinda cute though."
Cricket rolled his eyes at this, "Oh please..."
The cat demon rolled the bottle in his hands, swirling the liquid, "We got married sometime later..."
Francis smiled before speaking up, "You guys had a wedding?! I love weddings!"
Charlie playfully clapped her hands with her own smile, "Me too! What kind of wedding was it? Oh I bet it was beautiful!"
Husk shrugged his shoulders, "Heh... It really was..." He rolled his hand before continuing, "Well, you all know what comes after marriage... Rosemary gifted me two children. Our son, Matthew and our daughter, Honey. She thought she was so clever when she named our daughter. 'Graham, it's like yours! You know, graham crackers and honey!' Oh, it was cute."
Francis smiled before tapping his hands on the counter, "So what was Matthew like?"
Viola squinted her eyes upon hearing the name 'Honey' but didn't say anything.
Husk shrugged his shoulders, "Well, Matthew was a bit...Uh, shy, I'll say."
...
And with that, the man thought back on his memories yet again...
Within the flashback, Rosemary pulls a pie out of the oven and set it onto the table to cool. She then turns to put another unbaked pie into the oven. Honey sat on a different counter, watching her mother with a smile. She had dark brown hair in a fluffy lower bun, sharp dark brown eyes and dark skin. She was wearing a gold shirt with white polka dots and a white collar, a dark blue overall skirt, white socks and black Mary Jane shoes.
Graham and Earnest play a game of dice at the table, two beer bottles resting next to them. The taller man rolls his eyes upon seeing his roll result in a one, causing him to lose to his friend.
The man in the pink shirt reaches for the pie before the baker's voice stops his movements.
"Earnest, you touch that pie and you're going to get burned."
The taller man rolled his eyes, "Pfft, what do you know..." He then touched the tin, which quickly burned him, "OW! SH-!" He then feels his friend across the table stomp on his foot, "Ow! What was that for?"
Graham stomps on his friend's foot from underneath the table, "She told you! And don't be rude to my wife, jack-." Honey stuck her tongue out at her father's friend.
Suddenly, the door was shoved open... Revealing Matthew, who ran inside and dropped his backpack. The little boy sprinted to hug his mother, "Ma!" He had black curly hair, soft light brown eyes and dark skin. He wore a white shirt with Mountbatten Pink stripes, blue shirts, a black belt with a silver buckle, white socks and black shoes.
Rosemary jumped back when she felt his arms around her waist, "Oh Matthew, sweetie! What happened? Are you okay?"
The child shakes his head before letting her go, "Ma, Joseph pushed me and chased me all the way up the street!"
Graham put his beer down on the table, "Again?" He pulled his son away from his mother to look him over for injuries, finding a small scrape on his knee, "Hey, come on. It's just a scratch, you'll be fine."
Matthew played with his fingers nervously, "Aw but Pa... Joseph's really scary, he's bigger than me!"
The man in front of him shrugged, "So's me, your mother and Uncle Earnest. What's the problem here? Just clobber him in the mouth."
The boy's mother put her hands on her hips, "Graham!" She then knelt down to lay a bandage on the bloody scrape, "No, Matthew, you use your words. We don't want you to get hurt."
The boy's father folded his eyes upon hearing this, "Fine, fine... But if your words ain't working, just punch him. That'll shut him up..."
Back in the hotel, Francis crossed his eyebrows. He smiles upon remembering his own incident months ago, "Oh hey, hehe. I guess that sounds familiar."
Husk shrugged back at him with a smile before Angel Dust let out a chuckle.
The spider demon rolled his hand, "Come on, continue! What else did ya guys do?"
The cat sinner shrugged his shoulders, "You know, got enlisted at one point. I missed my family so much while I was away..." He smiled while relaxing his arms on the table, "I was dropped off so early in the morning when I got back... Wanted to surprise everyone, only to find Honey sleeping at the door. Waitin' for me." He waved his hand at the though, "I was surprised, it meant she snuck away from her Ma. So small and clever that one..."
The spider sinner let out a chuckle, "Aw, chip off the ol' block, huh?"
The smaller sinner nodded his head, "Yeah... You could say that."
While Husk went on with his story, the King of Hell poked his head into the doorway. He raised his eyebrow when he saw everyone sitting in front of the bar, "Uh, hello! Am I missing something important?"
The prince smiled at the man, "Oh hey Dad! Come here and join us! Husk is telling us about his time on Earth!"
The king tilted his head at the question, "Really? You want me to join?" When he heard no objections, he moved to sit next to his children, "Well I guess if both Francis and Charlie are here, I can listen in too!"
Once Lucifer sat down next to his son, he felt a strange tingling feeling on the back of his neck. He shook his head to get it to go away.
Meanwhile Viola rubbed the back of her head, feeling the same weird tingle...
...
Husk let out a long sigh before he continued the story, "It... Wasn't all good for too long though."
Upon hearing this, Cricket looked away and folded his arms.
Back in the flashback, Rosemary holds her daughter's hand and a bag while they walked down the sidewalk. Honey looked up at her mom while the cars drove on the street, "Ma... My feet are tired!"
The woman nods before stopping to pick up her daughter, "Okay, okay. Come here..." She places the bag in her daughter's hands, "You got a good hold on the bag?"
The little girl nodded while holding the brown bag, "Yeah, Ma! Come on, let's go home!"
One of the cars on the street honked it's horn at the car in front of it. The driver was impatient while he kept honking. When the car wouldn't go faster, he begins to turn the wheel to move his vehicle...
However, he ended up sliding onto the concrete of the sidewalk...
The car swerves and races onto the sidewalk with the driver trying to turn the wheel back towards the street. However, it stops before he could get in back on the road so he honks the horn. The driver attempts to slam on the brakes but it is too late...
The giant hunk of metal flies straight into the mother and child...
Back in the hotel, Husk rubbed his eyebrows at the memory, "it was the first ever motor accident in our part of town. I... Had to be the one who identified them... They were definitely my Rosemary and Honey..." He couldn't look up, he only stared at the bottle in front of him.
Francis frowned deeply before he heard a sniffle right next to him... Then he was suddenly yanked into a hug by his older sister.
It didn't take long for their father pulled them both into his own hug.
The boy looked up at him, "Dad? Charlie?"
The blonde woman felt her eyes tear up while hugging her brother, "I'm okay..."
Lucifer let out a sigh upon hugging his children tighter, "Just give us a minute, son..."
The prince played with his fingers within the hug, "Okay..."
Husk continued after hearing this, "It just went downhill after that... It became hard to put down the bottle... Very hard." He turned his head away in shame.
Back in the flashback, Graham sat in his recliner with a few beer bottles on the table next to him. He rubs his temple while looking at his son's relatively passing report card blankly.
The boy played with his fingers nervously while looking at the bottles, "So, are my grades okay?" When he didn't get a response, he tilted his head at the older man, "Pa? Are you okay?"
Graham scratched his chin when he regained his focus, "Uh... It's fine." He laid the paper down before he picked up another bottle, "You know what, just go to your room, Matthew. I really don't want to talk to you right now."
Matthew frowned before standing up and heading to his room, "Oh! I... Um... Okay, Pa... I'm real sorry."
The father took a sip of his drink, "Sorry about what? Just go to bed, Matthew. I'm really not in the mood for anything right now."
Then the two had heard a sudden knock on the door, which made the father shake his head. He gets up with a small stumble before opening the door, where a woman was standing with a clipboard. She was earing a gray suit with a gray skirt, her black hair was in a bun and her eyes were blue.
Graham raised an eyebrow at the woman, "You need something?"
The woman squared her shoulders while nodding her head, "Hello, I have gotten multiple reports of this household. Mostly in regards to the excessive drinking I know the mother and young daughter of this family has died here but that is no excuse." She looked down at her clipboard, "One incident that was told to me was that the young boy living here had to prevent you from falling off a balcony while you had a bottle in your hand, is that right?"
He put the bottle down on the table, out of the woman's view, "I..."
The worker took a pen out of her pocket, "I'm sorry but if it is true, I am going to have to take the child out of this household. He will need to be transferred into someone else's care."
Both adults heard the boy's small voice from the hallway, "Hey Pa, who's this?"
Graham took a deep breath, "This... This lady is here to pick you up."
Matthew ran to grab his father's hand, "What? But I don't want to go! I want to stay with you, Pa!"
His father shook his head, "Matthew..."
The worker motioned for the boy to follow her, "Come along now, Matthew. We have to go, we can send someone to collect your stuff later."
Graham rubbed his eyebrows in frustration, "Matthew, just go!"
The boy let go of his dad's hand before he started to play with his shirt, "But..."
The short man furrowed his eyebrows at his son, "Kid, I'm telling you to leave me alone! This is for your own good so just go with her! What, is this the one time you don't want to listen?!" He frowned upon seeing his son's shoulders drop.
Matthew felt tears build up in his eyes, "N... No..." He played with his fingers before backing away from his father...
Back to the present, Husk was looking away from the group, "And that was the last time I ever saw Matthew... Last I heard, he was moved to some other family on the other side of town. I can't even remember if he wanted to visit me or not before I died. I know Rosemary would have been disappointed..." He took a sip of the beer in his hands.
The rabbit demon shrugged his shoulders, "And wasn't that the problem?"
The cat pushed his friend from behind the bar, "What did you just say? Hey, just because you hated Rosemary doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about this! Last time I checked, you didn't come by to help AT ALL when they took him away! So what, were you the one who reported me?" He prepared to punch his friend.
Cricket balled up his fists and floated in the air, "Oh I'm sorry! Newsflash! I PLEADED for them to let me take Matthew! Poor kid lost his mom, his sister and got taken away from his dad!" His eyes began to glow purple, causing Husk to miss, "So I figured 'Uncle Earnest' should take him in, give him something! But no! Because I wasn't his blood, I couldn't do squat! So I'm sorry, I TRIED MY BEST!" His eyes continued to glow, allowing his luck to increase, "It's your fault you lost him anyway!"
Husk reared back to punch him in the face, "What did you say, you piece of-"
The black and white rabbit took the punch while leaning back, "I'm just saying I don't know why you're getting mad at me when you're the one who was drinking all the time! Someone else reported you! But it really was your FAULT!" He felt something form around his ankle before he looked down to see the familiar chain of flames form.
Francis pulled the chain to drag Cricket back down to the ground, "Woah! Guys, just calm down!" The soul he owned turned away with an angry frown.
While his friend was distracted, Husk flew himself out of the room. He balled his fists with a frustrated face.
This made Cricket stand up with folded arms, "You know what, I'm done for the night." With that, he left the prince with the group at the bar area. Once the commotion calmed down, Charlie had went after her brother's owned soul while the boy went to look for Husk.
Francis walked outside of the room to look for the cat demon, only to find him lingering at the door of the hotel. The prince rubbed the back of his head, "I... Uh, Husk?"
The cat demon didn't look back at him, only at the door, "What do you want now, Francis?"
The boy looked down before pushing the door open, "Here, let's go outside."
He walked out into the field of grass in front of the hotel, squaring his shoulders, "I'm sorry we pushed you into telling us such a painful memory. I guess I got a little too excited, I just think you're so cool! And I always want to learn more about you!"
To the boy's surprise...
...Husk let out a laugh, "Pssssh, you do remind me of Matthew." He then folded his arms with a smile, "Matthew was always too scared to throw a punch though... He was a sweet kid, just a bit soft... I do wish I didn't yell at him that day, I guess I felt like I didn't deserve him after everything."
He ruffled the hair on the prince's head, "It's fine, it wasn't all bad. It was... Kinda fun, remembering stuff... I hope they're all okay... I got no doubt they're in Heaven, livin' it up..."
The boy nodded his head in agreement, "And I'm sure Matthew is happy too..." And with that, the two headed back inside the bar of the hotel. Which is where they saw one of the former Exorcists still sitting at the bar, drawing on a piece of paper with some crayon...
...
Meanwhile, on Earth... An old man sits back in a dark blue recliner. His eyes are a very light brown, his skin is dark and his hair is shirt, curly and black. He is wearing a short sleeved white shirt with black stripes, dark blue jeans with overalls, golden buttons and black shoes. On the wall next to him is a dark brown shelf full of various awards, including an Outstanding Chef Award and a Michelin Star for a restaurant named 'Matt's Crown Royale'. He smiles down at a picture of Graham and Rosemary standing in front of a bakery, each holding their two young children...
Suddenly, he heard a child's voice run into his living room. He smiled upon seeing a boy come barreling towards him, preparing for him to jump.
The boy did indeed jump onto him, "Grandpa! Grandpa! Come on, we have to play now!"
The gray haired man smiled despite the impact, "Woah there, Junior! Where's the fire?"
The brunette giggled at his grandfather, "Haha, there's no fire! You're so silly, Grandpa!" He looks down at the photo in the old man's hands before pointing at it, "Oh hey! Who are these people?" His finger lingered on the man's face in the photo.
The older man nodded his head with a somber smile, "Well, this is my Pa and Ma and my little sister... They're your great Grandma and Grandpa and your Great Aunt Honey."
The boy's sharp eyes widened, "Oooh! Cool! My Great Aunt Honey has my ma's name! They should see each other! Am I going to meet them soon?"
The retired chef hesitated to shake his head, "Well... No, but I can tell you all about them. And when I tell you that they loved me and my sister, it's true... And Pa... I know Pa tried his best..."
The grandson smiled while his grandfather talked, relaxing in his recliner with him...
