On the first level, the elevator opened for Alastor, who stepped out as he walked through and from under the second floor, passing the staircase at the center near the lobby. Well noted that the hotel architecture somehow had a similar layout to the previous one. The lounge from the left had two fireplaces and a tiny television on a cartwheel, while to the right was the bar, separated by a room with big open windows across the wall with beautiful spiral pattern design covering it. Continued onward. Alastor headed to the three double doors and glanced at the front desk, burrowing into the wall beside the bar entrance before exiting.
Came face-to-face was the statue of Dazzle, a reminder of this draconic demon's heroic death, which caught Alastor off guard by startling him then scowled after. Slowly but surely, he felt the humiliation creeping onto his face. Heat rises, and then Alastor immediately doesn't give the statue a second glance, rushing down the steps toward where he spotted Charlie.
A small ounce of static buzzing behind Charlie caught her attention, so she turned and saw Alastor approaching and standing beside her. There's a sense of acknowledgment not being shown by the sinner, but a gleeful smile and humming were present while staring at the three figures within the distance.
"Sooo…" Charlie began. "How do you like your room so far?"
"It's nice and spacious, more than how I usually prefer. Didn't imagine there'd be one for me after my brief absences after the fight. However," Alastor muttered slightly, turning to her and giving a sincere response. "I do appreciate the thought."
"Oh, Al. I wouldn't forget you if you asked." A soft, genuine expression and a twinkle in Charlie's eyes as she gripped her chest at the warmth but frowned worriedly. She loosened her hand while lowering it, clenching her teeth together bitterly, then added, "Or, dead. I was hopeful, so I begged my dad, and voila, you had a room. It's stupid to feel this way, but I was afraid. Afraid you'd never come back."
That assertive profession caught Alastor off guard, and he stood awkwardly, unsure what to do other than glance around from the rumbles to the hotel until a whisper was heard, "Like the others," from Charlie. Eyes widened at those words as Alastor glanced back and accidentally made eye contact. They stared at each other momentarily before Alastor's hand twitched, then reached for the princess's head to pat but went straight for the cheek, pinching hard with such enthusiasm that Charlie winced through the pain without making a peep.
Alastor couldn't contain from chuckling before releasing her and said, "Worried not, dear. Believe in me. Nothing can easily end my miserable and delightful life, for I'm your facility manager and the Radio Demon."
Sounds very assuring, but not enough to ease Charlie after seeing so many deaths the past few days, especially those who are the closest. Sadness was written all over her just the thought, but she resisted. Charlie opened her mouth and was about to speak, then noticed Alastor grinning mischievously when hearing the name of her facility manager being mentioned by where Rosie and Husk were.
One big step Alastor took surprised the princess in a jolt, whisking over there without making a sound. Stepping in front of Angel Dust while also scaring him, then twirling away to wrap an arm around Husk's neck with a thrilling cry. "Husker, good to see you still lounging about!" Alastor then faced Rosie and walked over to her while dragging along his so-called colleague, greeting his friend with a kiss on the hand. "As well to you, too, Rosie. Nice for you to drop by, even though the hotel isn't at its finest moment."
"No need to worry something such as that. I'll be off in a jiffy after I receive the leftovers," Rosie said, gesturing to one of her demons dragging a body.
"Ah, please do. Don't want those things stench to keep lingering, especially in hell. They rot really easily." In a shivering, disgusting tone, Alastor waved his hand away without a care. "Trying not to pry on your conversation, but what did you and Husker discuss. Or, with sweet Charlie."
Rosie blinked, processing his words, then spurted into laughter while covering her mouth and brushing onto Alastor's shoulder. "Nosy as ever, Alastor. What if I don't want to? But then again, since I adore you so much, I'll give you a few hints." She winked at him and continued, "Walking down memory lane, having a heart-to-heart moment, and discussing business from the past to now."
"Comedical," Alastor sighed annoyingly, side glancing away.
"Oh, Alastor, you can't be too greedy."
"I'm not being greedy, I was… Wondering."
"So am I," Rosie exclaimed.
Surprise was written all over Alastor, but confusion was replaced, watching his friend lean closer to his ear and whisper. Nothing can be heard other than among those two. Everyone stared, then got scared when he jerked his head away so suddenly from Rosie and frowned uncomfortably. The ear above Alastor's head, disguised with the rest of his hair, almost fell flat but stuck right back up in complete control. He unconsciously tightened the grip around Husk and the other free arm between him and his friend, seemingly offended.
Without batting his eyes off Rosie, he sees the princess standing far behind his friend with a perplexing expression, so he peered over Husk and then at Angel Dust. There's this strange discomfort stirring in Alastor, not wanting them present.
"Very outstanding, your citizens does. Would they care for some refreshments for their effort?" A change in the subject was Rosie's least expected, and without giving her a chance to reply, Alastor continued, "What about you, Husker? Maybe you and Charlie can go to the kitchen and patch a few snacks to serve. Hmm?"
Hearing that astonished Husk, and his mouth gaped because there were things and places he needed to be. This nonsensical Alastor putting him through caused him to rise and protest. "Excuse me?! Like damn, will—" Turned into a muffle, having the not-so-enthusiastic Radio Demon covering him from speaking and pulling him in place within earshot.
"Take your spider friend and the princess away from here. If you are less competent, prepare yourself for an eternal vacation. Because you won't be missed." Alastor's authoritative yet mellow tone sent a shiver through Husk as the sign of death loomed above, causing him to lick his lips nervously and nod. Satisfied, Alastor sneered and muttered, "Excellent."
Husk was set free and shoved aside toward Angel Dust but did stumble a bit. Either way, staying far from that terrifying menace was a relief as he composed himself, then immediately grabbed the startling spider toward the princess and headed straight to the hotel. Before Charlie accompanied them, she bowed and waved at the two Overlords. They did the same in return, and Rosie kept smiling until the group was far gone.
"How and when did you get a hold of Husk?"
Alastor went stern at that question but acted cheerful, saying, "We wage on a little fun game to obtain one's power, which is only one-sided, his side. Two years before he shut down all his establishments. I, however, get to request anything as I did win. A true winner."
"Deserve as you should enjoy it. I'm not degrading or giving lectures because I was simply, as you say, wondering. Us, Overlords, don't usually go at each other's throats unless territory is involved," Rosie explained, then scoffed in a laugh as she added, "Or having those stupid, childish fights." Through a slight observation, she has over Alastor and is curious about the reaction since this talking becomes casual into foolishness.
"Rosie, stop dulling with these chit-chats."
Good enough for a reaction she got then eased herself and said, "I'm building to it by making sure you won't overstep the deal."
"Contract, not a deal."
"Fine, contract," Rosie sighed, shaking her head, stressed. "If Carmilla or any other Overlords, from that time, learn what you did with Husk, none will sit still."
"Is it written anywhere that I can't shake a hand? From what I remember correctly, killing wasn't an option for me to go against another Overlord. A disadvantage agreement since I was new and barely understood the laws down here," Alastor said with seething breath but pleasantry.
There's a fumble in Rosie's mindset of being reminded that they, including herself, did try to force Alastor to sign his entire self away. Remorseful, but she needed to set where their relationship stood and stated, "I won't tell, but I'll warn you that I can't assist if they were to find out. All I can do, in my capability, is pray for your wellbeing." From her perspective, Alastor saw and nodded as he stared above the sky, directly at heaven, tired but unsure why. He hummed with eyes closed.
