Hummingbird Heartbeat – Katy Perry
You make me feel like I'm losin' my virginity
The first time, every time you're touchin' me
I'll make you bloom like a flower that you never seen
Under the sun, we are on bosomed energy
Let's pollinate to create a family tree
This evolution with you comes naturally
Some call it science (science), we call it chemistry
This is the story of the birds and the bees
And even when seasons change
Our love still stays the same
You give me the hummingbird heartbeat
You spread my wings and make me fly
The taste of your honey is so sweet
When you give me the hummingbird heartbeat
Hummingbird Heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
I've flown a million miles just to find the magic seed
Oh, white flower with the power to bring life to me
You're so exotic, my whole body fluttering
Constantly craving for a taste of your sticky-sweet
Always on the brink of a heart attack
You give me life and keep me comin' back
I see the sunrise in your eyes, your eyes
We've got a future full of blue skies, blue skies
Even the seasons change
Our love still stays the same
You give me the hummingbird heartbeat
You spread my wings and make me fly
The taste of your honey is so sweet
When you give me the hummingbird heartbeat
Hummingbird Heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
You love me, you love me
Never love me not, not, oh no
When we hear a perfect harmony
You make me sound like, like a symphony, oh
Spread my wings and make me fly
The taste of your honey is so sweet
When you give me that hummingbird heartbeat
Hummingbird heartbeat
You give me the hummingbird heartbeat
Spread my wings and make me fly
The taste of your honey is so sweet
When you give me that hummingbird heartbeat
Hummingbird heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
Oh, oh hummingbird heartbeat
Since the engagement, Penelope had found attending balls so much more enjoyable. Mainly because Colin secured each of her dances and she didn't spend the entire evening in the corner trying to blend in with the wallpaper hoping that someone would ask her to dance. Any excuse to spend the entire evening in Colin's arms would have done though.
"I must say. This dance does not compare to a private waltz in the church where we will be married." It was so simple to ignore others around you when you were gazing into the eyes of the man you loved.
"Well, perhaps we shall have to add some flourish." She giggled when he twirled her as he had done in the church. For a moment her life seemed perfect.
Of course that was the moment Cressida and Lady Cowper chose to arrive. You could feel the atmosphere in the room darken. For as much as people admired Lady Whistledown, few even liked Cressida Cowper. Most found it difficult to believe the two were the same person which gave Penelope some comfort.
"I will not let her ruin our night." Always her hero, but soon to be her husband. He was right. No need to let Cressida ruin another evening she had not been invited to attend. And obviously she had not been invited if she was only now arriving.
"Yes. You are right." Although it was difficult not to when everyone there was watching to see what Cressida/Lady Whistledown would say or do. She herself was so focused on Cressida that she stepped on Colin's foot while they were dancing.
"Ow." Colin seemed surprised that she had missed a step. Since prior to this season he was the only one who had danced with her, it was more surprising that she had not done so before this.
"Oh! Apologies. I am not used to dancing so much." That was true. She and Colin had spent most of the evening so far on the dance floor.
"That is all right. I've been meaning to tell you, I've been editing my travel diary into a manuscript. With your encouragement." If the rest of it was as good as the part she had read, she was certain it would be a best seller.
"Have you?" She wished he could see what a gift he had for writing.
"Very nearly. I'm still removing some of the more … personal passages." That would be a great shame.
"Why? That is what I so enjoyed about the part that I read." Especially now that she had experienced some of what he had written about.
"Well, those parts are only for you." She could feel her blush all the way down to her toes.
"Perhaps I could edit them for you." Then at least she wouldn't miss her Whistledown column so much. "If you wish. Before you send them to a bookseller. I do so enjoy writing, letters and what have you."
"Well, you do write the very best letters." He had certainly replied to each one she had written to him when he was touring Greece. "But I might like to prove to myself that I can do it on my own. And to you. I want to be worthy of you, Pen." How could he think he had anything to prove to her?
"Of course you are worthy." Now it appeared to be Colin's turn to step on Penelope's foot.
"Uh forgive me." Nothing to forgive. After all she had already stepped on his foot. "It seems the Queen has summoned Miss Cowper." Was that good or bad? "It may finally be time for Lady Whistledown to meet her consequences."
When servants walked amongst them with copies of Whistledown on trays, they got separated. Penelope grabbed an issue to see what Cressida had managed to come up with.
Dearest Gentle Reader,
It is said that there is no rest for the wicked. If that is true, this author must be rather virtuous, for I have been enjoying a much-needed respite from observing all of you. Not to worry, I am back and shall return soon enough with a full issue. You may now know my name, but have no doubt, I know you even better.
Yours truly,
Lady Whistledown
Or forever now, Cressida Cowper
She caught sight of Eloise who looked shell shocked. Her fury over Cressida's attempt at writing as Whistledown was pushed aside for the concern she felt for her friend. "She is … We have … And … And now …" Eloise lost for words. Hell must have frozen over.
"Come with me." She grabbed Eloise's hand and took her somewhere they could talk without being overheard.
"It is all my fault. I convinced you to let her take Whistledown's name. And now she has somehow written something coherent, not to mention published." Yes, well that had been a surprise.
"Eloise breathe." Actually that was part of the reason she didn't stop Cressida previously, because she doubted Cressida could write anything decent. She still had doubts Cressida had written the piece.
"We have created a monster, Pen." Cressida had been monstrous prior to this. "A monster who seems to have a feud with me and by extension, my family." Cressida tended to do that when someone said no to her. "I have put them all in danger again, just like last year."
"That was my fault." She should have found some other way to help Eloise.
"No. I was reckless. As I have been now, inviting that viper into my family's home. A viper who now has nearly as much power as the Queen. I never should have befriended her." Now was not the time to tell Eloise 'I told you so.'
"Eloise … it will be all right." A plan was already forming.
"How?" This must seem to Eloise as though she was stuck in some never ending circle of bad luck.
"Because I am going to publish again." It was the quickest way to help Eloise and the rest of the Bridgerton family. "With one issue, I can discredit Cressida. It is not just gossip. Whistledown is power."
"Pen …" Eloise obviously wasn't so sure.
"Remember my first issue? What I wrote?" There was no time for Eloise to have doubts.
"You quoted Byron." Not really the point and there was so much more to that issue.
"Not that. The part about me and my sisters. 'Three misses foisted upon the marriage market like sorrowful sows by their tasteless, mama.' The alliteration was a little overdone, I admit, but the column began because I felt powerless in my own home." She had been miserable and alone. "I was forced to debut a year early, and I had no say in anything. Writing was the only way I felt I could have a voice. And I should have been using the column to give a voice to the other voiceless." She had attempted to do so at the beginning of the season when they had first returned. "I have done plenty of damage with my pen. Please … let me use it now to do some good." Then she would need to find a way to tell Colin.
"You must get a full issue out right away." She had already begun writing it in her head. "Before Cressida does." Eloise went back to the ball while Penelope grabbed her cloak and snuck out to the carriage.
The words flowed onto the paper with ease. This felt as natural as breathing. Any thoughts of how Colin would react to her being Whistledown were pushed aside. Get the column to the printer first. Admit to keeping a huge secret from your future husband later.
