Note: this technically takes place after my other fic But it doesn't really need to be read besides the fact that Jinx and Ekko are together somehow.
Jinx was pouting.
That much Ekko could tell. The reason, however, was currently eluding him.
"What's wrong Pow—" he started.
"Jinx."
Oh. She was mad mad.
Ekko's lips tightened in a brief frown before smoothing over.
"Alright, Jinx," he said, trying again, his voice steady but cautious. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?" He raised an eyebrow, taking a seat next to her on the couch. "It doesn't look like nothing."
"It's nothing," she snapped, tone clipped.
Ekko tilted his head studying her. "Uh-huh. And I'm the king of Demacia."
Jinx shot him a withering glare.
Ekko winced—clearly wasn't the mood for banter. "Right—sorry," he muttered under his breath, hands held up in mock surrender. "Just here to listen."
Jinx's face relaxed—her expression softening—but she remained quiet.
Without a word, Ekko shifted closer and pulled her gently into his arms. His hand moved to rub her shoulder in slow, soothing circles. She didn't resist, leaning into his touch with a small, almost imperceptible sigh.
And they stayed like that, the room quiet save for the soft ticking of the clock in the background.
"It's stupid," Jinx started, breaking the silence.
Ekko's hand paused briefly before resuming its gentle motion. "It's not stupid if it's bothering you," he said, his voice soft.
"No, it's stupid," Jinx replied, frustration lacing her tone. "Even for my standards."
Ekko raised an eyebrow. "And why do you think that?"
Jinx huffed, pulling back slightly to look at him, though she didn't leave the circle of his arms. "Because it just is," she muttered, arms crossing defensively.
"You know that's not an answer, right?" He matched her gaze, soft but searching.
"You know you're an awful busybody?"
"So you keep telling me."
Jinx let out a frustrated grunt. "Okay fine! You win—but don't complain to me when I say I told you so."
"I pinky promise."
She bit her lip, fidgeting slightly, her gaze darting between his eyes and the floor—was the floor always that shade? She shifted uncomfortably, her fingers tapping lightly on her arms as if trying to calm her nerves.
Ekko just waited. He was quick to learn that sometimes, the best thing he could do was give her space to figure herself out. No pressure. No rush.
"Did you kiss her?"
Ekko spluttered, his previous calm demeanor collapsing. "Excuse me—what?"
"I said what I said," Jinx replied, her voice stronger.
Ekko's brows furrowed in confusion, composing himself. "I'm not sure I follow."
Jinx rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Which part? The 'did', the 'you', the 'kiss' or 'her' part?"
"All of it?" Ekko asked meekly, his voice uncertain.
"Ugh, you're such a dullard sometimes," Jinx growled, her annoyance slipping through. But then, unexpectedly, she faltered. Her voice softened, and she spoke the next words almost like a confession, whispered, not meant to be heard. "I mean… Powder."
"I'm not sure I under—" Ekko started, but then he froze, the pieces clicking together. "Oh." His eyes widened, and this time, the word came out louder, more astonished. "Oh."
Jinx jerked Ekko's arm off her shoulder, her movement sharp as she turned away. "See?" she said, her voice tight. "I told you it was stupid."
Ekko flinched at her sudden movement, before he quickly slid off the couch and crouched in front of her, his gaze soft but steady. Gently, he took her hands, which were now dejectedly resting in her lap, and held them in his. With the other hand, he brushed a loose strand of her hair away, his fingers lingering for a moment before cupping her cheeks. He turned her face toward him, his touch tender, urging her to meet his eyes.
Jinx momentarily resisted, her body stiffening, but after a beat, she leaned into his touch, her breath shaky. Still, she refused to meet his gaze, her eyes fixed somewhere just beyond him.
"Please look at me, Powder," Ekko's voice was gentle, but there was a pleading edge to it.
"Jinx," she interjected, her tone softer this time, a quiet protest rather than a sharp correction.
His heart beat a little quicker—she was jealous—though he was never gonna hear her admit it but still the thought almost made him happy. But the feeling was fleeting, quickly replaced by something more tender. His thumb gently brushed away a single tear that had started to fall, his touch light and reverent, as if handling something delicate, something precious.
His touch seemed to soothe Jinx, the tension in her body slowly easing as she finally met his gaze.
"It's not stupid," Ekko reassured, his eyes searching hers. "I understand."
"Oh yeah, buster?" She quipped, but it lacked the bite.
"No, I do," Ekko replied, his hand giving a gentle squeeze to hers. "I'd feel the same way."
"You're just saying that."
Ekko shook his head, his expression softening. Slowly, he pulled himself up, his forehead gently resting against hers. "No," he murmured, his voice low and earnest. "I wouldn't want to share you with anyone—not even a version of myself."
Her breath hitched.
"But I guess I'll just have to prove it, don't I?"
Jinx raised an eyebrow, her lips parting to reply, but before she could, his lips met hers in a soft, unexpected kiss. Her eyes fluttered shut instantly, and without thinking, she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
His lips gently nibbled on hers, coaxing them apart ever so slightly, the kiss soft yet insistent, as if trying to say everything words couldn't. And she was ever the willing participant in this conversation, her mind going blank as the world around them faded. For a fleeting moment, she could barely remember why she had been frustrated, the tension melting away in the warmth of his lips.
They eventually pulled apart, breath shallow, but their arms remained wrapped around each other.
"That was unfair," Jinx muttered between breaths, her words soft and a little airy after a moment of stillness.
Ekko smirked, a playful glint in his eyes. "I didn't see you pull away."
"Touche," Jinx clicked her tongue, her lips curving into a half-smile despite herself. She quickly forced it down, her face shifting to one of exaggerated hurt as she stared at him. "But, I'm still upset."
"Yeah?" Ekko responded, his tone confused but still smirking. "What can I do to make it up to you?"
Jinx pushed him lightly, enough to send him sitting down onto the wooden floor. She followed him down, settling onto his lap sideways. She tucked her head underneath his chin, the movement both playful and intimate, her body leaning into him.
"Oh, I don't know…" she teased, her tone playful. "Maybe I'll just need a reminder from time to time."
"A reminder of what?" Ekko asked, perplexed.
"Your proof."
Ekko's fingers brushed through her hair absentmindedly, the motion slow and soothing as he adjusted to her warmth, her body nestled against his. "Oh," he murmured, the realization settling in. "Of course, Powder."
She didn't correct him this time.
Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think!
