At the rear of the chaotic battlefield, the Four Satans observed the ongoing carnage, their powers growing as they prepared for an inevitable clash with the Overlord Jezabel. That is, until Mastema's divine attack brought an unexpected twist to the scene.
"DOGS OF HIS WILL!" Lucifer bellowed in rage, his eyes narrowing at the sight of Mastema's holy energy. The outburst snapped Asmodeus from his deep pondering, and the other two Satans shifted their focus, alert and on edge.
Lucifer conjured a spear of malevolent light, preparing to launch it straight at Mastema. But before he could hurl it, there was a sudden Bonk, Jezabel appeared out of nowhere, hovering right in front of him, and smacked him on the head with a folding chair. The blow sent Lucifer sinking into the ground, his head buried in the sand.
"I love pasta," Lucifer muttered, stars swirling around his head before he slumped into unconsciousness.
The remaining Satans froze, their eyes wide in shock. Lucifer, the most fearsome among them, had been taken down with a single strike!
"Ah, ah, ah," Jezabel teased, wagging her finger with a playful grin. "Bad girl Lucy, trying to spoil my fun so soon." Her gaze then shifted towards the other three Satans, who instinctively fell into defensive stances, conjuring their flames, bugs, and water magic respectively.
Jezabel's smile widened mischievously. "Now, now," she chided, pointing a lazy finger at them. "If any one of you is thinking about ruining my entertainment again, I might just have to bring in some new players for the game."
In an instant, she vanished from sight, her movements too swift for the Satans to track. She reappeared on the other side of the battlefield, sitting on her folding chair, casually munching on popcorn like nothing had happened.
Asmodeus blinked, then threw up his hands. "Nope, fuck this shit I'm out." He spun on his heel, making a hasty retreat.
Leviathan scoffed, folding her arms with a haughty expression. "So, the great Asmodeus is fleeing from a little girl? To think that you are one of my peers, pathetic."
Asmodeus halted, turning back with a scowl. "Have you actually gone senile, Leviathan? Did you not see what just happened?" He jabbed a finger toward Lucifer, still buried head out in the sand.
Leviathan dismissed his concern with a wave of her hand. "Lucifer was distracted by his grudge against the Creator. He let his guard down, that's all."
"And what about us?" Asmodeus snapped. "We couldn't even see her approach, let alone react when she left!"
"Simple," Leviathan replied coolly, as if explaining something to a child. "We were focused on enhancing our powers and watching the battle. We were just caught off guard because we didn't expect that brat to knock out Lucifer in one swing."
Asmodeus threw his arms up in exasperation. "And the fact that she could one shot Lucifer doesn't bother you at all?"
Leviathan arched an eyebrow, her voice dripping with condescension. "It was a sneak attack, Asmodeus. There's no way she could repeat that in a real fight."
"You... you're insane!" Asmodeus sputtered, eyes wide with disbelief. "Why don't you try knocking out a fully powered up Lucifer in one hit then? Go on, I'd love to see it."
Leviathan puffed out her chest with pride. "If it were me, I'd manage. Unlike you, I actually have confidence in my abilities."
"Confidence doesn't equal reality!" Asmodeus snapped. He turned to Beelzebub, who had been silently pondering about the recent events. "Beelzebub, back me up here. Tell grandma here that fighting that little shit is a lost cause. You were the one suggesting we retreat earlier!"
Beelzebub let out a sigh, giving a solemn nod. "You have a point, Asmodeus. Engaging Jezabel would indeed be a... daunting endeavor."
Asmodeus exhaled in relief, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. "Finally, someone who sees sense. Now let's cut our losses and sound the retreat, time to get the hell out of here."
"However," Beelzebub interrupted, his tone turning icy. "To retreat now, after losing a fifth of our forces to a dog of his will, would be a disgrace to the title of Satan. We would be mocked for eternity." His hands clenched into fists, seething at the thought of such humiliation.
Asmodeus stared at Beelzebub and Leviathan, utterly flabbergasted. His eyes darted between them, disbelief etched across his face. "What the hell have you two been smoking?" he shouted, his voice cracking with raw frustration. "You're seriously talking about dignity right now? We're staring death in the face! Forget it, I'm not sticking around to get my ass raped." He flipped them both off, raising both middle fingers defiantly. "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"
Leviathan's lips curled into a mocking smirk. "Run along then, coward. Flee like the spineless devil you are."
Beelzebub, stepped in, his smile sly and taunting. "Oh, by all means, leave. But tell me, Asmodeus, how will you explain this to the ladies especially that Sitri girl you fancy? Imagine all their faces when they hear that the great Satan Asmodeus ran away from a mere child. I'm sure they'll be impressed."
Asmodeus froze mid-step, his fists clenched tight, teeth grinding together in sheer rage. "FUUUUUCK!" He let out a primal scream that echoed across the battlefield. Spinning back around, he stomped furiously towards them. "I hate you both! If I die here because of this, I swear I'll haunt you both for all eternity!"
Beelzebub's smile widened, knowing his taunt had worked perfectly. The three conscious Satans resumed their positions, their auras flaring and crackling with dark energy as they continued to amplify their powers, preparing for their next move. All the while, they left Lucifer unconscious, still buried in the sand.
Venefica's eyes narrowed as she studied Peon. No... this is bad, she thought, feeling a chill run down her spine. He's exceeded all my calculations. With a swift motion, she pulled out a small, shimmering vial filled with a dark, swirling liquid. Her hand trembled for a fraction of a second. I have no other choice.
Without a moment's hesitation, she uncorked the vial and downed its contents in one gulp. Instantly, her aura exploded outward like a raging storm, the intensity of her power multiplying tenfold. The ground cracked, as shockwaves rippled through the battlefield, distorting the very air. Even Peon, who had faced countless powerful foes, felt a momentary hesitation.
"What the hell...?" Peon muttered, his eyes widening as he narrowly dodged a barrage of massive, crackling beams of dark energy. Each one sizzled with lethal intent, leaving smoking craters in their wake.
In response, Peon swung his flaming sword in rapid succession, unleashing a flurry of scorching slashes that painted the sky with trails of brilliant light. But his attacks met only empty air as Venefica blurred, moving faster than his eyes could track. It was as if she had transcended the limits of speed itself, effortlessly weaving through his onslaught.
Venefica's laughter rang out, a high, manic cackle that sent chills down Peon's spine. "How do you like that, my little test subject?" she taunted, her voice dripping with deranged glee. "Behold the effects of my latest creation The Emperor's Formula!" Her eyes gleamed with a wild light as she zipped through the air, her body crackling with unstable energy. "This concoction enhances a devil's power by ten, no by a hundred times!"
She coughed violently, spitting up blood, but her smile only widened, a twisted grin stretching across her face. "I loathe using myself as a guinea pig, but you've left me no choice. Now, be a good lab rat and stay still!"
With a flick of her wrist, she summoned a colossal magical laser. The beam of concentrated energy, searing hot and blindingly bright, tore through the sky like a blade. It hurtled towards Peon with terrifying speed, engulfing the entire battlefield in its radiant glow.
Peon's eyes blazed with determination as he raised his sword, channeling every ounce of his strength into his defense. "AAAAHHH!" he roared in defiance, pushing back against the oncoming blast. His muscles strained, veins bulging, as he fought to hold his ground. But the sheer overwhelming power of the beam was too much it swallowed him whole, the blinding light consuming his form.
The explosion rocked the battlefield, sending shockwaves that flattened everything within its radius. When the light finally faded, a massive crater lay where the blast had struck, a deep, smoldering scar upon the earth. Venefica floated above it, breathing heavily, her body trembling from the strain. Blood trickled from her nose and mouth, staining her lips a dark crimson. She wiped it away with the back of her hand, a satisfied, albeit weary, smile on her face. "Impressive," she muttered under her breath. "This power... it's almost too much to control."
But her smile faltered when she saw a figure rising slowly from the depths of the crater. Through the haze of smoke and debris, Peon emerged, battered and bloodied, yet still standing. His clothes were torn, his skin covered in burns, but his eyes held a fiery resolve.
"You... you survived?" Venefica sneered, masking her shock with a tone of cruel amusement. Her voice was hoarse but carried an edge of disbelief. "You're tougher than I gave you credit for. But tell me, my little rat..." Her grin widened, dark and sinister. "Can your battered body withstand another?"
Peon grits his teeth, mentally chastising himself. I've got to stop jinxing myself with these early victory calls, he thought, sweat dripping from his brow. His eyes darted to Venefica, who was already preparing another blast, her aura swelling with unstable energy. Damn it, I can't withstand much more of this. She's too fast and powerful now. He frantically scanned his surroundings for a solution.
His gaze fell on the distorted terrain the colorful pyramids and shimmering ground laced with mysterious magical effects. Maybe if I lure her into one of those slowed zones... He considered it, shaking his head almost immediately. No, even I can't predict their effects. It might end up screwing me over instead. He clenched his fist, frustration boiling over, but suddenly a realization clicked within him. His eyes narrowed. Wait lure, surroundings.
As Venefica launched her second magical blast, the beam exploded on impact, engulfing the area in a dense cloud of smoke. She hovered, waiting for the dust to settle, her eyes scanning the field. "Did I vaporize him?" she muttered, squinting through the haze. "No, according to my new calculations, he should be able to withstand a few more hits." Her lips curled into a smirk when she spotted Peon fleeing through the air. "Ha! Running away like a rat, are we?" Her laugh was filled with mockery until she realized where he was headed. Her eyes widened in shock. "Wait... no, that direction is...!"
Venefica shot off like a bullet, racing to catch up.
Peon's smile widened as he neared his destination right where a group of lower-ranked devils were spectating from the sidelines. Panic erupted among them as they saw him approaching, his flaming sword raised high.
"He's going to kill us all!" one of the devils screamed, their voices filled with terror.
With a roar, Peon swung his sword in a wide arc, flames trailing behind it like a blazing comet. But before the strike could land, Venefica appeared, her face a mask of panic. She threw herself in front of the terrified devils, conjuring a powerful barrier at the last second. The clash sent shockwaves rippling out, the sheer force of Peon's attack pushing her back as burns seared across her skin.
"Subject#42069, what are you doing?!" Venefica's voice was frantic, her confident demeanor shattered. Her eyes were wide, filled with a mixture of fear and desperation. "This is a controlled experiment between us no need to involve other variables!"
Peon pressed against the barrier, his muscles bulging, veins straining as he pushed his sword forward. "I've figured you out," he growled, his smirk widening. "You taunted me to follow you into a unoccupied area keeping our fight isolated, making sure no bystanders got caught in the crossfire. Pretty odd for someone who only sees them as lab rats, don't you think?"
Venefica's eyes darted to the devils behind her, then back to Peon. She struggled to maintain the barrier, her expression faltering as panic seeped in. "That's nonsense!" she shouted, her voice tinged with desperation. "These soldiers are nothing but test subjects to me!"
"Is that so?" Peon taunted, his smirk growing more predatory. "Then why didn't you just blast me when I headed this way? You were scared, weren't you? Afraid your unstable power might accidentally hit and kill them. How considerate of you, Venefica."
Venefica's composure cracked, her face twisting with a mix of fury and fear. "You're wrong!" she screamed, her voice breaking. "I couldn't care less about these useless pawns!"
A young devil behind her, trembling with fear, looked up. "Lady Venefica... is this true?" he asked, his voice a mere whisper.
Another soldier, tears welling in his eyes, called out, "Please, Lady Venefica! Save yourself! Don't worry about us!"
"Yes, it's our duty to protect you, my lady!" a third one shouted, their voices filled with pleading.
Venefica's eyes widened, blood trickling down her face as her body trembled. "No..." she whispered, a raw, guttural cry ripping from her throat. "None of you are dying today! Not under my watch!" Her barrier flared with a violent surge of power, pushing back against Peon's sword. The burns on her body deepened, her skin sizzling under the intense heat. "I won't allow this experiment to end in failure!"
Peon's expression softened for a brief moment, a flicker of regret crossing his eyes. "You really care about them," he muttered, almost to himself. "To go this far for low-ranking devils... It's a shame. There aren't more like you in this devil society, Venefica. You're the second high-ranking devil I've come to respect."
Venefica's eyes widened at his words, but she said nothing, focusing all her energy on maintaining the barrier.
Peon took a deep breath, his resolve hardening. He raised his sword, its flames intensifying, the heat reaching a blistering peak. "I'll make this quick," he said solemnly. "Flaming Dimensional Slash!"
His sword cleaved through the air, the strike warping space itself. The blade cut through the barrier like it was paper, the dimensional tear setting Venefica ablaze in an instant. She let out a cry of anguish, her body igniting as the flames consumed her.
"Lady Venefica!" the devils screamed in horror, watching as their leader was engulfed in fire.
Venefica looked down at her burning form, a small, satisfied smile curling her lips despite the agony. "A well calculated defeat," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the roar of the flames. Her eyes softened as she looked at her soldiers one last time. "Please Peon... promise me..." she begged, her voice breaking. "Don't harm them they are only pawns in..."
Her form crumbled to ashes, carried away by the wind.
Peon lowered his sword, the flames dying down as he watched her vanish. He gave a slow, respectful nod. "I promise," he said quietly. "Farewell, Venefica Astaroth, Lady of Lurid Science. May your soul find peace."
The battlefield fell silent, the wind carrying away the last of Venefica's ashes as the devils she protected wept openly, mourning their fallen leader.
