Chapter Four: Interesting Meetings
"Ki'ol how is the search going?" Danny asked as he sat at his new desk and used a contact orb to communicate with the Ha'tak.
It is a small gray metallic device the size of a baseball. It had the ability to record and project images. The people of Dinai used them like more advanced cellphones. He had them made during his first decade as king.
"It is going rather difficult my King." Ki'ol said. "Forgive my failure. You have given us plenty of time, but the planet has multiple sources of Naqaudah, and we have to filter all the images the B.I.R.D.S. send."
Ki'ol spoke with a resigned tone clearly expecting some measure of punishment. He was recently bought from another Goa'uld and was still getting used to the differences between his rule and the one from his previous master.
He expected to be punished with injury after failing a task.
"I understand." Danny said. "Setesh has hidden himself very well. I expect us to find him and capture him before the year is over, but I do not expect it to be easy task."
Thousands of years ago Setesh had decided to go into hiding among the people of this world. With the Goa'uld waging war with the Asgardians he had plenty of time to prepare. His observers and enemies too busy to keep track of him.
"Thank you for your kindness my king." Ki'ol said.
"Just give me a list of the highest places you already have." Danny said.
"For the glory of Nirtii I will strive for success." Ki'ol said.
"For the glory of Nirtii." Danny said as he waved the man off and ended the call.
Danny rose from the desk and looked around the chambers he had been given.
Two days may be rather quick to form an opinion, but the room was rather nice for the time period the planet was in.
The room is rather large with windows that gave a great view of the garden and the lake. The bed and pillows were stuffed with goose feathers while the blanket was made from satin. It felt nice to just touch it and watch it shimmer.
The Jaffa were given their own quarters but unlike him they were grouping up. This was to let them guard over each other and make sure they were not attacked by the soldiers in the castle.
There was a knock at the door.
"Yes?" Danny asked.
"Your breakfast has been brought." Raios said.
It caused him to turn towards the door and look through it to see Iok and Na'du holding a tray cart.
Given that Queen Catherine like to surprise her enemies with poison it meant that none of the servants of the castle could be trusted currently so he instead had the Jaffa prepare his food and bring it to him. He held no doubt that during his stay she would try and poison him. It was not a question of if but rather a matter of when.
It would probably not be instantly fatal, but it she could believe it would weaken him enough to get him to agree bring her son back for the antidote.
"Come in." Danny said unlocking the door with a gesture.
"Here is your food my king." Iok said as he held the food tray waiting for directions on where to put it.
It was lifted out of the Jaffa's hands and floated right in front of him. The top of the tray was removed revealing a bowl of Earth fruits along with a Danish.
He was kind of impressed with the Jaffa's efforts on the treat. It was not something that they were used to, but it looked rather good.
"This looks good." Danny said.
"I am grateful for your praise." Iok said before he and Na'du left.
Danny turned to Raios. "How is it going with the construction of the village?"
Besides making him his food the Jaffa were also overseeing the humans gathering of supplies for the Jaffa village. He planned on having it created in the Western half of France.
"Things are going well my king." Raios said. "These humans are weak but enough of them can cut wood and lift it onto a pile."
"Very well but make sure that you keep an eye on them." Danny said. "I don't want them carrying out secret orders from the King and Queen. They can be extremely reckless when pushed against the wall."
"I understand my king." Raios said. "I am grateful for your kindness and your wisdom."
"Then return to what you were doing." Danny commanded the Jaffa who nodded and left without another word.

Danny looked through the castle window at the falling snow.
"Hello." A beautiful woman with dark skin and red hair said as she walked up to him. "I have not seen you around here before."
Going by the descriptions that Lola gave him of the royal court this is the daughter of the Burgrave of Magdeburg.
"I am a new guest to the castle." Danny said taking a brief look into her mind to be sure. "You must be Kirche Von Zerbst."
"You have heard of me?" Kirche said surprised.
Her action caused her rather impressive breasts to start moving in an alluring manner.
"I always make an effort to learn of the most beautiful women in the castle." Danny said as he smiled at her.
"And your name would be?" Kirche asked moving a hand through her red hair.
He could feel her delight at his praise.
"My name is Daniel Masters." Danny said.
"Where are you from?" Kirche asked as she looked him over. "Your skin and you name makes you sound English, but I cannot place your accent. Your men and your clothes looked to be from the east."
He is wearing a purple kimono with a black haori.
"I am not from England." Danny said. "My home is a bit further away."
"I must say that your French is wonderful." Kirche said. "How long have you studied the language?"
"I spent months studying before my visit." Danny lied.
"What are you doing if you don't mind me asking?" Kirche asked.
"I am just enjoying seeing watching the snow." Danny said. "It is so rare that it happens in my home."
Dinai had weather-controlled temperature and Nirtti hated the snow. He had not been able to have a snowball fight in a very long time.
"You could tell me more about your home." Kirche said with a smile. "I always like hearing about new places."
"I had been wanting to make new friends during my stay at court." Danny said.
"Wonderful." Kirche said. "Are you going to attend the Tennis match later? All nobles of the castles are invited to watch."
Then if he wanted to keep his cover then he should go and visit as well.
"Yes. I heard that King Henry is going to be playing against members of his council. It sounds like it will be good for a laugh." Danny said with a smile.
"It is said that the tournament would stretch out for the next two weeks. So, there is a chance we will see an interesting match." Kirche said with a smile. "You can sit with us, and I can introduce you to all of my friends."
"I would love too." Danny said. "If you will excuse me I have somewhere that I need to be."
"Then we shall talk later." Kircher said.

"Hello." Danny said entering the room and taking a seat and looking at the board.
"I take it that you are the young man that I am to be instructing?" Osmund asked looking at him.
Osmund is an old man that looked like the first image you would see if you opened the dictionary and looked up the word wizard. He had a white mustache that merged with his beard and his hair.
"Yes. I want to get better with French history." Danny said taking out a pen and notebook.
He wanted to know how the country came to be in this timeline.
Osmund was part of his demand to King Henry and Queen Catherine. He taught the other children in the castle.
"What is that?" Osmund asked looking at the item in his hand.
"This is a pen." Danny said. "It is how we write things down in my land."
"I have never seen such a device before." Osmund said as he inspected the item. "No ink?"
"The ink is on the inside." Danny said enjoying his amazement at the tool.
He wondered how much he would get if he started selling these around the world.
"Where should I start?" Osmund asked.
"Why not at the beginning?" Danny asked with a questioning gesture.
"Very well. It began with Charlemagne. He who united Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire..." Osmund began.

He walked through the hall whistling.
The guards stood by the wall watching but not caring about who passed them.
"Hello Queen Mary." Danny said as he saw the Queen of Scotland along with her ladies in waiting Lola, Kenna, and Greer.
There used to be another one Ailee but she was killed by Queen Catherine's bastard daughter Clarissa to fulfill one of Nostradamus's prophecies. Nostradamus is another person that he was looking for. The power to see the future is one of the abilities that he tried not to use and so such a man could be truly useful if given the proper enticement.
Just another reason that he needed to find Setesh.
"I have heard that your talk with Henry and Catherine went well." Queen Mary said as she looked at him.
The three ladies in waiting were standing at a distance behind her but still close enough to hear what was being said.
"I think so as well." Danny said with a smile. "The two of them turned out to be very understanding people."
"With what you have done. I doubt they had much choice." Queen Mary said with a frown.
Looks like she still hasn't gotten over his taking of her husband.
He wondered how she would feel about if she learned about how he found her and her husband.
"I tried talking to the two of you, but you refused to listen." Danny said.
"Your deal would cost me more than what you promise." Queen Mary said. "Whatever bargain you want to strike know that I will not take it. I have faith in God and his path for me."
This is why they believed that she is a religious zealot.
"I wonder how long you can hold on to that stubbornness." Danny said. "I have seen your future and the path that you are walking down is a dark one."
"You are just trying to scare her into working with you." Greer said walking up to him.
"That's so hurtful thing to say." Danny said as he pouted and grabbed his chest. "I am telling her the truth."
"Don't you have something else to do today besides bother us?" Greer asked.
"I came because I wanted to talk to your lady Lola." Danny said.
"Why?" Queen Mary asked.
"You are not ready to make a deal with me yet and so I am trying to make friends in the castle." Danny said.
"You do not have to go with him Lola." Queen Mary said.
"I will be okay." Lola said. "I don't need him placing a curse on me later for denying this attempt."
"Great." Danny said with a smile as he pulled Lola off to the side.
"What do you want?" Lola asked.
"I have been given access to the royal library." Danny said. "I want to read what they have on history and mythology and wanted your opinion where I should begin my search."
"So, you want my help?" Lola asked.
"You are angry at me." Danny said.
"Of course, I am." Lola said. "You abducted my friends and are still holding Francis as a hostage. You broke your promise to me."
"I haven't hurt either of them." Danny said.
The only injury Prince/King Francis has gotten had been due to himself.
"Anyway, I have a gift for you."
He pulled a jar out of his kimono pocket.
"What is that?" Lola asked looking at the small jar on the table.
"It is medicine." Danny said, "I have heard that you have been sick the past few days."
"It is nothing." Lola said.
"It is a symptom of your pregnancy." Dany said. "You stomach will start growing in a couple weeks from now."
"This will stop it from happening?" Lola asked picking the jar up.
"This will stop you from throwing up." Danny said. "I have other methods to hide the fact that you are with child."
"In return for this I assume that you want more information?" Lola asked.
"If you would be so kind." Danny said. "Have you come up with a plan?"
"A plan?" Lola asked.
"I may be able to help you hide the signs but eventually it will be hard for you to move." Danny said, "Have you figured out how you are going to explain it."
"I am working on it." Lola said.
"Very well." Danny said. "If you have any trouble, just know that you can always come to me."
He watched as she walked out of the room.

Danny walked into the section of the court where the viewers could watch the game.
A hand wrapped around his arm.
"Danny I was wondering where you were." Kirche said.
"Just enjoying my time around the castle." Danny said. "I found a really good book."
"Well then let me introduce you to some really good people." Kirche said leading him down the walkway.
"Hi guys." Kirche said. "This is Daniel Masters."
The group consisted of three people.
There is a blonde woman with blonde hair in curls that reached down to her back.
"I am Montmorency Margarita la Fère de Montmorency." The blonde woman with girls said with a smile. "My favorite animal is a robin, my favorite flower is orange, and my favorite number is four."
He wondered whether she was the daughter of Francois or Henri?
Something to ask later.
"You can call me Danny." Danny said with a smile. "My favorite topic is history, my favorite color is black, and my favorite animal is a jaguar."
"I am Malicorn de Grandple." The chubby man on the right said. "My favorite thing is gardening.
"I am Guiche de Garmont." The blonde man of the left of the group said.
He could feel the man's disinterest in him.
"So, who is King Henry going to play against?" Danny asked as he looked to the field.
"He is going to be playing against Antoine de Bourbon roi de Navarre." Guiche said.
It had been a surprise to learn from Lola that Antoine de Bourbon had a place on King Henry's council. On the show he had only appeared when he was making a move for the throne. He had been behind the poisoning of the bible that led to King Henry's madness.
He wondered if he should do something to prevent it this time around.
"Shouldn't the king of Nevarre be in Nevarre?" Danny asked looking at the court.
"Rumor is that he and his wife are having issues." Kirche said.
"Just a sign that the man has good sense." Montmorency said. "It is said that Navarre is protestant."
"That is not the reason" Kirche said. "The Bourbon family is protestant as well. It is why they and the Guise family dislike each other."
"Some say that he married the queen for ambition only to learn that he hated the place." Guiche said.
Danny just listened to them gossip and made note of the information.
"Who is the man that is sitting in the chair?" Danny asked.
He had a wide forehead and black hair that reached to his shoulders.
"That is Alexander Botemps." Malicorn said with a slight tremor. "He is the Valet of the King."
"Malicorn has been scared of Bontemps since he was a child." Montmorency said.
"I have heard that you are family friends to Queen Catherine's cousin Roman?" Guiche said.
"Yes. I had heard so much about the royal palace from my father that I could not help but want to come and pay a visit." Danny lied as he told his fabricated backstory. "He wrote to Roman de Medici who asked Queen Catherine if I could visit, and she convinced the king."

Danny walked to his chambers and found Raios standing in front of his guards.
"Raios." Danny greeted.
"My king Kada has sent a message." Raios said. "He says that he has news that you will want to hear."
"What did Kada find?" Danny asked Raios.
"He has sent the image to my data pad my king." Raios said handing him the data pad.
Danny led him into the room and saw the image that had been sent.
The image is of four individuals standing around a cabin. One individual is more important than the others.
Sebastian de Poitiers. The bastard firstborn son of King Henry and Diane de Poitiers.
He had wanted to find him as there were scans that he wanted to run on him.
In the show Sebastian had mystical potential. He had gone off with the druids to train. It had come to nothing as the actor never appeared again and Mary had been told he died by David Rizzio who later Mary's personal secretary.
He would not let such an opportunity pass him by. He had sent the B.I.R.D.S. into the Blood Forrest to find him.
Nostradamus is hiding too well for him to locate at the moment.
Now that he had Sebastian it reduced Nostradamus's relevance. One psychic was as good as another even if he was not as skilled.
"Kada." Danny said sitting at his desk and activating the contact orb.
"My king." Kada said. "I see that you received the message sent to Raios's data pad."
"Kada where is Sebastian right now?" Danny asked.
If the timeline remained accurate, then Sebastian should be bringing Olivia D'amencourt to the castle after she escaped from the "Darkness".
"He is still at the home the where the image was taken." Kada said. "He wanted to bring the injured woman to the castle but the other two warned the target that it was unsafe to travel at night."
"I want you to send ten B.I.R.D.S. to focus on the area." Danny said. "They have information that I want, and they cannot get away."
"Very well." Kada said.
"Good." Danny said. "Raios I will head to the area in advance. Gather ten Jaffa and a Tel'tak and head to the area."
"I will make sure that we capture the target." Raios said rushing out of the room.

Danny lifted his hand from the coin and looked at the outcome.
He had to pass the time while he waited for his Jaffa to arrive.
He could see through the walls. Rowan and Carrick are sitting at the table while Sebastian watched over Olivia as she rested in a bed.
"We have arrived my king." Ras'mus said through the communication device.
"Good." Danny said as he caught the coin and looked at the house covered in snow. "Be mindful of traps. These people are hunters."
"How do you want us to capture the target?" Ras'mus asked. "Have us blast our way inside with our staff weapons?"
"I can tell that you are excited, but for this operation need you calm and in control." Danny said as he began to stand up. "I want to make sure that I capture Sebastian. "
"Then what role will we perform?" Ras'mus asked.
"The role that I want for you and the Jaffa is to surround the house prepared to stun them when they appear." Danny said.
"How do you plan to get them to into the house?" Ras'mus asked.
"I plan on telling them that we can heal their guest." Danny said as he walked through the woods to the house. "After we have placed stasis chips on them, we will take them to the Jade Arrow.".

He knocked at the door and could hear them whispering.
"Who is that?" Rowan asked in a whisper.
She had dark red hair and green eyes.
She had been the replacement sacrifice after Sebastian brought Olivia to the castle.
"No idea." Carrick said. "I will go check."
He is the older brother and owner of the house.
"Who are you?" Carrick asked suspiciously as he opened the door.
"I am Daniel Masters." Danny said. "I have come from the castle."
"Another one." Carrick groans placing his hand on the doorframe. "Are you a friend of Sebastian."
"We know some of the same people." Danny said. "Would you mind inviting me inside?"
"No." Carrick growled. "Family policy to not invite anyone inside during the night."
"That is smart given that there are monsters that walk in the shape of man " Danny said as his eyes began to glow. "Let me in anyway."
"Come on in." Carrick said with a smile on his face.
"Who are you?" Rowan asked rising from the table.
"This is Danny." Rowan said. "He says he is from the castle."
"What brings you here?" Rowan asked him.
"I am here because I am hunting some creature that lives in these woods." Danny explained.
"What?" Carrick asked surprised. "You are after the Darkness?"
"I heard rumors of people being abducted and sacrificed in the woods." Danny said. "I decided to ask people in town and the castle about it."
"Is the king aware of this matter?" Carrick asked.
"He is busy with other issues at the moment." Danny said. "He is looking for witches."
"Does he believe that they are related to the monster?" Rowan asked. "Or that their magic can stop this beast?"
"Who can say at this point?" Danny asked shrugging his shoulders. "We would have to catch him first to find out."
"So, you are challenging this monster by yourself?" Rowan asked.
"I have men waiting at the castle." Danny said to the siblings. "Once I find the information and return, we will move and begin the hunt."
"How many men are with you?" Carrick asked.
He knew that Carrick felt bitterness at what is happening to his family and used his power to make him express that feeling.
"I have eight in my group." Danny lied. "It would help our search if we had useful information."
"The people that live around her are going to be too scared to come and talk." Carrick said.
"The Darkness has been active for a decade." Rowan said. "It comes up one month during the year he marks three houses declaring that they need to give the sacrifice."
"Last year it had taken sacrifices from the Saint-Claire family, The Abelard family, and the Giroux Family." Carrick said.
"Has no one ever tried to run?" Danny asked.
Rowan and Carrick looked at each other.
"In the beginning some families decided that they would run." Rowan said. "Those families that tried to fight or run were found murdered."
The "Darkness" must be using them as an example for the villagers on the dangers of running. The Goa'uld use similar tactics with their captured slaves.
"The Saint-John family had met a rather gruesome end." Carrick said. "People found their corpses lying around the ashes of their home."
"Who are you?" Sebastian asked as he walked into the room.
"This is Danny." Rowan said. "He says he is from the castle."
"Really?" Sebastian said. "I have never seen you before."
"What?" Rowan asked turning towards him.
"I came to the castle after you left Sebastian." Danny explained.
"He is after the Darkness." Carrick said.
"I want to help you." Sebastian said.
"You can't." Rowan said turning to Sebastian. "You cannot prepare like this is some hunt. The Darkness is not something mortal men can defeat."
Danny is using his empathic manipulation to make her more skeptical yet determined to express her emotions to the group.
"What kind of beast do you think is behind this?" Danny asked.
"He is just a man." Sebastian argued. "A man that has convinced confused and scared pagans to kill in his name."
"Do you guys have any information about where the Darkness resides?" Danny asked.
"We do not know but we have someone who does." Sebastian said. "We need help getting her to a doctor first."
"Show me." Danny said standing up.
"This way." Sebastian said walking back up the steps.
Danny knew that it is the guest room that Olivia is in.
"Who are you?" Olivia asked as she sat up in the bed.
"Don't worry." Danny said as he placed two fingers on her head. "You'll feel better soon enough."
As her eyes closed, he placed a stasis chip on her arm. He needed her to find out where the "Darkness" is staying.
"How did you do that?" Sebastian asked.
"I have my tricks." Danny said as he turned to him. "Like this."
He waved his hand teleported him outside.
"What are you?" Sebastian asked turning to look at the house they were just in. "How did you do that?"
"That is rather complicated, and we can discuss it later when we have the time." Danny said. "First I have to get the others."
"Carrick! Rowan!" Sebastian yelled a warning. "Run!"
He watched as Veda blasted him with her staff weapon and sent him to the ground.
Danny teleported back into the living room.
"Where is Sebastian?" Rowan asked holding a bow. "We heard him shouting."
"He is outside taking a nap." Danny answered, "You are going to be joining him."
His eyes began to glow green.
"You aren't normal." Carrick said in shock raising a knife.
"That is actually true." Danny said.
"What do you really want with us?" Carrick asked as he pulled out a knife from his sleeve.
"Are you the Darkness?" Rowan asked with fear.
"That is just insulting." Danny said with glowing eyes and using his power to increase their terror.
"Run Rowan. I will keep him busy" Carrick shouted before running at him with a knife.
Rowan ran down a hallway that he knew led to the yard.
He heard another shot from a staff weapon go off and a body drop to the floor.
"Thank you." Danny said as he teleported them outside of the house.
"What?" Carrick asked as he looked around their location. "What have you done to my sister?"
"The same thing that is about to happen to you." Danny said jumping back from Carrick.
Ras'mus fired the shot that took down Carrick.
