Act 1: Setting the Stage

The moon hung low over the ruins of an old battlefield, its silver light casting eerie shadows over the debris. Naruto Uzumaki stood at the edge of the clearing, his orange jacket slightly torn, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of movement. It had been months since the Fourth Great Ninja War ended, but his work as a peacekeeper had only just begun

"Nothing here, Kakashi-sensei," Naruto said into his headset, crouching low to inspect a trail of footprints leading deeper into the forest.

The voice of the Sixth Hokage crackled in his ear. "Be careful, Naruto. The intel suggests Akatsuki remnants might be operating in that area. If you find anything, don't engage alone. Call for backup."

Naruto smirked, his free hand rubbing the back of his head. "Got it, but you know me. I'm not great at waiting around."

A sigh came through the comms. "Just don't get yourself killed. We've had enough funerals."

"Yeah, yeah," Naruto replied, already moving. He silenced the headset and followed the trail deeper into the woods, his senses heightened. Something about this area felt wrong. The air was too still, too heavy, as though the forest itself held its breath.

Suddenly, a flicker of movement caught his eye. He froze, his hand instinctively reaching for a kunai. A shadow darted through the trees, impossibly fast. Before he could react, cold steel pressed against his throat.

"You're sloppy," a cold, feminine voice said from behind him.

Naruto's breath hitched. He didn't recognize the voice, but the chakra—oh, he knew that chakra. It was dark and suffocating, yet strangely familiar, like an old wound reopened.

"Itachi?" he whispered, his voice trembling with disbelief.

The blade pressed harder against his skin, but the woman behind him didn't respond. Slowly, she stepped into view, her Sharingan glowing like twin embers in the darkness.

Naruto's eyes widened. "It's you... but... you're supposed to be dead!"

The woman before him was unmistakably Itachi Uchiha. Yet she looked different. Her hair was longer, cascading over her shoulders like a black waterfall. Her face, while still sharp and angular, carried a delicate grace that made her seem younger, more human.

"Itachi," he said again, his voice steadier now.

She tilted her head, studying him with an unreadable expression. "You're mistaken," she said finally, withdrawing her blade. "The person you knew as Itachi Uchiha is gone."

Naruto's grip on his kunai tightened. "Then what are you doing here? And why do you look... different?"

"That's not your concern," she replied coolly. "Leave, Naruto. This isn't a path you want to follow."

"Like hell I'm leaving!" Naruto snapped, stepping closer. "You can't just show up like this and expect me to walk away! I spent my whole life fighting to bring people back to the light—Sasuke, Obito, all of them. If you think I'm just gonna let you disappear, you've got another thing coming!"

Itachi's gaze hardened, though there was a flicker of something else—regret, perhaps? "You don't understand what you're chasing," she said, her voice low. "You're better off forgetting you saw me."

"Forget?" Naruto scoffed. "After everything you've done, everything you sacrificed? You really think I'm just gonna pretend this didn't happen? I don't care what you're hiding—I'm not letting you go!"

Itachi's expression didn't change, but her eyes darkened. She stepped closer, her presence commanding. "This is not your fight, Naruto. Go home. Protect the peace you worked so hard to achieve."

Naruto didn't back down. "Peace means nothing if it's built on lies! If you're alive, Itachi, you owe it to everyone to come back and help fix this world."

A bitter laugh escaped her lips, startling him. "You think I deserve a place in this new world? After everything I've done?" She shook her head, her hair falling like a curtain around her face. "Some sins can't be forgiven, Naruto. Some wounds never heal."

Naruto took a step closer, his voice softer now. "Maybe not. But you don't have to carry it alone."

For a moment, silence enveloped them. The tension between them was palpable, a battle of wills fought without a single jutsu. Finally, Itachi sighed and turned away.

"You shouldn't have followed me," she murmured, her tone almost... sad.

Before Naruto could respond, she flicked her wrist. A kunai zipped through the air, embedding itself in the ground at his feet. It was a warning, but Naruto knew her well enough to recognize restraint when he saw it.

"This is your last chance, Naruto," she said, her voice fading as her body dissolved into a swirl of crows. "Stay away."

As the crows scattered into the night, Naruto cursed under his breath. "Dammit, Itachi," he muttered, staring at the kunai at his feet. "You don't get to decide that."

He pocketed the kunai, determination burning in his chest. Whoever—or whatever—Itachi was fighting, he wasn't going to let her face it alone.

With a final glance at the darkened forest, he turned and headed back toward the village, his thoughts racing.

I don't care what you think, Itachi. You're not beyond saving.
