Episode 396: Dawn's Pokémon Contest Debut!
Just a day after Dawn has caught her first Pokémon, Buneary, Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Xion, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Chase, Elaine, Lucas, Dawn, Wes, Rui, Michael, Sorrel, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, Celeste, Marill, Volt, Maple, and Piplup had made it to Jubilife City at last.
"Here we are. Jubilife City," Leaf said.
"According to the guidebook, Jubilife City is the largest city in all of Sinnoh," Rui said.
"And the most modernized. This whole city was once a village in the old days of Hisui before renamed Sinnoh," Kris said.
"This is the place where I will enter my very first Pokémon Contest," Dawn said.
"It brings me back to when I first entered a Contest. I remembered how nervous I was," May said.
"You might not have won it, May, but you didn't give up," Brendan said.
"Yeah. I still had you with me," May said in a loving manner. "Also, you promised me a date as soon as we got to Jubilife City, didn't you?"
"I didn't forget, May. Anyplace you choose to eat is fine with me," Brendan said, putting his arm around his girlfriend's shoulder.
"You're so sweet," May cooed.
As they were arriving to the Pokémon Center, they came across 14 familiar faces.
"Tai, Davis, Matt, Izzy, Ken, Cody!" Sora said.
"Girl Sora, Mimi, Joe, TK, Kari, Yolei, Meiko, Amy," Kairi said.
"Ketchum, Roxas, Ash, Ethan, Chase, Brendan, Wes, Michael," Tai said.
"Kairi, Xion, Leaf, Kris, Lyra, Eaine, May, Rui," Kari said.
"It's been a while," Chase said.
"Likewise," TK said.
"Hey, who are they?" Sora T asked.
"Right. These are our new friends from right here in Sinnoh," Sora said.
"My name's Lucas and I came from Twinleaf Town," Lucas said.
"My name's Dawn. I'm also from Twinleaf Town, and this is Piplup," Dawn introduced.
"Piplup," Piplup said.
"And I'm Sorrel from Veilstone City," Sorrel introduced.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Tai ."
"I'm Matt."
"My name's Sora."
"My name's Izzy."
"My name's Mimi."
"I'm Joe."
"I'm TK. I'm Matt's brother."
"I'm Kari. I'm Tai's sister."
"My name's Davis."
"I'm Ken."
"My name's Yolei."
"I'm Cody."
"My name is Meiko, and this is little Mei."
"Meowth," Little Mei said.
"And I'm Amy."
"Nice to meet you," Lucas said.
"That's a cute Meowth," Dawn said, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned her.
Meowth, the Scratch Cat Pokémon
Type: Normal
Meowth are usually noturnal Pokémon, but they have a love for any shiny objects. Meowth shares a fierce rivalry with Murkrow, epsecially when fighting over the same shiny item they come across.
"I think it's a cute little nickname you gave her," Dawn said.
"Thank you, Dawn. That's very nice of you," Meiko said.
"This is the first time I have ever seen a Piplup," Ken said, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned him.
Piplup, the Penguin Pokémon
Type: Water
Piplup hates to be taken care of. Its thick down guards it from the cold.
"How adorable," Kari cooed.
"Lup," Piplup said.
"Since you guys are here, aren't Riku and Naminé here yet?" Matt asked.
"They told us that they'll meet us here," Ash said.
"So, we're waiting for them before they get here," Ethan said.
"I had a feeling they would be here as well," Izzy said.
"And they might catch some of the local Pokémon," Yolei said.
"Speaking of which, what Pokémon did you catch?" Amy asked.
"Well, we'll show you," Sora said, taking out his Pokéballs, so his Starly, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Riolu, Shinx, and Croagunk came out.
"And here are mine!" Kairi said, taking out her Pokéballs and threw them. Her Starly, Bidoof, Buneary, Kricketot, and Glameow came out.
"Look at that," TK said.
"Two Starly, a Riolu, a Turtwig, another Piplup, a Chimchar, a Croagunk, a Shinx, a Bidoof, a Buneary, a Kricketot, and a Glameow," Cody said.
"These are some primo Pokémon you caught," Matt said.
"Thanks," Kairi said.
"Here are mine," Lucas said, letting out his Chimchar, Starly, Turtwig, Aipom, and Shinx.
"And here's mine," Dawn said, letting out her Buneary.
"And here is mine," Sorrel said, letting out Lucario.
"I also have a Bulbasaur, a Squirtle, and a Torchic with me, too," Kairi said.
"Any new Sinnoh Pokémon with you?" Roxas asked.
"Funny you should ask," Yolei said, letting out her Staravia. Cody has let out his own Turtwig as Davis has let out his Gible.
"Gible is my new bud. Say hi, Gible," Davis said.
"Gible," Davis said.
"Turtwig is my new Pokémon," Cody said.
"Meet Staravia," Yolei said.
"Staravia, huh?" Kairi asked, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Staravia, the Starling Pokémon
The evolved form of Starly
Type: Normal/Flying
Recognizing their own weakness, they always live in a group. When alone, a Staravia cries noisily.
"I had a feeling that's what Starly evolved into," Kairi said.
"Let's check you out," Sora said, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned Davis's newest Pokémon.
Gible, the Land Shark Pokémon
Type: Dragon/Ground
It nests in caves untouched by sunlight. Its sharp teeth may fall out when worn away or after an impact, but they regrow within a few days.
"Two Starly, a Riolu, a Turtwig, another Piplup, a Chimchar, a Croagunk, a Shinx, a Bidoof, a Buneary, a Kricketot, and a Glameow," Cody said.
"These are some primo Pokémon you caught," Matt said.
"Thanks," Kairi said.
"Here are mine," Lucas said, letting out his Chimchar, Starly, Turtwig, Aipom, and Shinx.
"And here's mine," Dawn said, letting out her Buneary.
"And here is mine," Sorrel said, letting out Lucario.
"A Lucario. How awesome," Davis said.
"Sora 2, I would like to talk to you in private if you please," Izzy said.
"Sure thing," Sora said, calling back his Pokémon and they went to talk in private. "What's up, Izzy?"
"Could those three be Keyblade candidates?" Izzy asked.
"I'm leaning in that direction, Izzy. Sounds like you're thinking that, too," Sora said.
"Yes. Which ones do you think it is?" Izzy asked.
"Honestly, I don't have a clue. I guess we would have to wait and see what happens," Sora said.
"I guess you're right, Sora 2. I'll trust your judgement," Izzy said.
Sora and Izzy rejoined their friends as Davis approached Sora.
"Hey, Sora 2, how about we have a battle? I wanna test out my Gible's strength in battle," Davis said.
"Sure thing, Davis. I can take you up with that, Davis," Sora said.
"Awesome! Let's make it one-on-one!" Davis said.
"Alright," Sora said, holding a Pokéball.
They get to the battlefield. They get quite a crowd. Among them is a girl with short orange-red hair that is styled in a similar way to Ash Ketchum, brownish-red eyes, and a dark magenta shirt under a light orange vest, and pale blue jeans with black sunglasses above her hair. She wears red socks and brown boots with gray brown laces. She also wears a small necklace around her neck and has a pink device on her left wrist. With her is a Glameow.
"You ready, Gible?" Davis asked.
"Gib," Gible said.
"Croagunk! Go!" Sora called out. His Pokéball opened and Croagunk came out. Croagunk's Anticipation kicked in.
"He's sending out Croagunk?" Mimi asked.
"I agree. Gible is a Ground-type which is an advantage over a Poison-type," Izzy said.
"Okay, Gible! Use Dragon Rage!" Davis ordered. Gible fired Dragon Rage at the Toxic Mouth Pokémon.
"Dodge and use Brick Break!" Sora ordered. Croagunk dodged Gible's Dragon Rage and came at the Land Shark Pokémon with Brick Break.
"Use Dig!" Davis ordered. Gible dug underground to avoid Croagunk's Brick Break. Croagunk looked around for Gible. Croagunk's right eye sparkled and jabbed on the ground, forcing Gible out. "What the?! How did Croagunk do that?!"
"Poison Jab!" Croagunk lands a Poison Jab on Gible.
"Gible! Use Bite!" Davis ordered. Gible bit Croagunk on the arm. Croagunk swings Gible off his arm. "Dragon Breath!" Gible spewed Dragon Breath at Croagunk.
"Dodge and use Poison Sting!" Sora ordered. Croagunk dodged and fired Poison Sting.
"Dodge use Dragon Breath again!" Davis ordered. Gible avoids Croagunk's Poison Sting and fired another Dragon Breath, hitting the Toxic Mouth Pokémon. "Bite!" Gible came at Croagunk with a Bite.
"Brick Break!" Sora ordered. Croagunk lands a Brick Break, landing some heavy damage on the Land Shark Pokémon.
"Dragon Rage!" Davis ordered. Gible fired Dragon Rage at Croagunk.
"Dodge and use Brick Break again!" Sora ordered. Croagunk lands a Brick Break, dealing some heavy damage. "You're handling your Gible without any trouble, Davis."
"Thanks, Sora 2. Your Croagunk isn't just strong, but also cool, too," Davis said.
"Thanks, Davis. Wanna keep going?" Sora asked.
"Let's keep this battle going! Gible! Use Dig!" Davis ordered. Gible dug underground to catch Croagunk off guard, but that was easier said than done. Gible came right behind Croagunk.
"Poison Jab!" Sora ordered. Croagunk quickly turned around and lands a Poison Jab on Gible, poisoning Gible on the mark.
"Use Dragon Rage!" Davis ordered. Gible fired a Dragon Rage at Croagunk. Gible ends up being hurt by the poisoning.
"Brick Break!" Sora ordered. Croagunk lands a Brick Break on Gible, resulting a knockout.
"No way! I lost!" Davis exclaimed.
"Davis lost," Kari said.
"That Croagunk is something else," TK said.
"Great job, Croagunk," Sora said.
"Cro, Cro, Cro, Cro," Croagunk croaked.
"You doing okay, Gible?" Davis asked.
"Gib," Gible responded, sounded sad.
"Hey, don't take it so bad. You were awesome, even if you don't win," Davis said. Gible beamed from Davis's compliment.
"Hey, a Poison-type just beat a Ground-type," one of the men said.
"That kid with the spiky hair is good," a random woman said.
"That kid with the goggles was good, too," another man said.
"That was a good battle, Davis," Sora said.
"Thanks, man. You were good, too. I wanted to battle you ever since you battled Tai. It was a thrill," Davis said.
"I feel the same way, Davis," Sora said. They fist bumped.
A little while later, the group were told about Pokécths, so they went to the Pokétch Compant tower and they each receive one.
"This is awesome. Now, we have a Pokétch," Ethan said.
"Always gotta try the lastest fashion trend," May said.
"You've said it, May. I could use to this," Kris said.
"Glad you like it, guys. But let's test out the friendship level between us and our Pokémon," Dawn suggested.
"Not a bad plan, Dawn," Leaf said.
They tried out their Pokétchs friendship apps and they managed to see the friendship meter of their partners. They all saw how high they are. Sora even tested it out on Croagunk and saw how high it was even though it was for a short time. Dawn was disappointed by how low it was.
"Not a bad plan, Dawn," Dawn said.
"Piplup," Piplup said.
"Don't take it so hard, Dawn. It takes time for friendship to build up. It's not somthing you can rush," May said.
"May's right. Each of us had to find that out the hard way," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Easy for you to say," Dawn pouted.
"He means it, Dawn. No one said it has to be easy," Ash said.
"Yeah, Sora and Pikachu didn't hit it off at first, but they got close not too long afterwards," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Besides, didn't you tell us you once saved Piplup from some Ariados when he was in trouble? Xion asked.
"I did. I guess we'll have to give it our all during the Contest," Dawn said.
"Piplup!" Piplup said.
"But I'm going to be a part of it, too, so I'm not going to be pulling my punches with you," Kairi said.
"I wouldn't want you to, Kairi. Besides, it wouldn't be fun if you went easy on me," Dawn said. Both Pokémon Coordinators shook hands, promising each other a good competition. Unknown to them, the girl from before was listening in on them and she smiled.
As the days passed, Sora, Kairi, Lucas, and Dawn decided to get some training done. Tai and the rest of the DigiDestined helped lend a hand anyway they can. Not too long, Rei had arrived to Jubelife City.
"I trust everything's going smoothly," Rei said.
"They have, Master," Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Xion, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Chase, Elaine, Wes, Rui, and Michael said in unison.
"Glad to hear it, apprentices. Riku and Naminé are still absent, I see," Rei said. Just then, Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill arrived to the Pokémon Center.
"Master," Riku and Naminé said.
"We had just arrived to Jubelife City," Riku said.
"So I see," Rei said. "Well, you're all here now." She saw the new Trainers. Dawn, Lucas, it's nice to officially meet you."
"Likewise, Miss Sakura," Lucas said.
"We've heard so much about you," Dawn said.
"I hope it's all good," Rei said. She laughed.
"It's all good, Master," Sora assured.
"I trust you, Sora. And judging by how everyone looks, I would say you all look very well," Rei said.
"Thank you, Master," Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Roxas, Naminé, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Chase, Elaine, Wes, Rui, and Michael said.
"And since I had just arrived here, there'll be no training for right now. Because there is the matter of the Pokémon Contest to attend to," Rei said.
"Yeah, you're right, Dawn and I are competing in the Jubelife Contest, so we'll be giving it everything we have," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Which one will you be sending out?" Naminé asked.
"I thought of using Starly and Squirtle for it," Kairi said.
"Seriously?" Dawn asked.
"Sounds like you're well-prepared. And what of you, Dawn?" Rei asked.
"Well, I have my Piplup and my Buneary," Dawn said.
"Well, they are the only Pokémon you've got, Dawn," Brendan said.
"Even with just two Pokémon under your belt, it won't be easy," Lyra pointed out.
"Marill," Marill said.
"No need to worry. Like Kairi said, we'll give it everything we have," Dawn said.
"It's true, I did say that," Kairi said.
"Why do I feel like worrying whenever she says that?" Leaf asked.
A little while later, Sora and Pikachu were getting some training done when the girl with the ponytail straight up approached.
"Hey, kid!" The girl called out. Sora turned to see the girl. "How about you and I have a Pokémon battle against me?" She held out a Pokéball.
"And you would be...?" Sora asked.
"The name's Verity, and I come from Twinleaf Town! So, how about it? You up for battle?" Verity asked.
"Okay, I could use a practice battle for my first Sinnoh Gym battle. How you wanna do this?" Sora asked.
"Let's make it one-on-one! What do you say?" Verity asked.
"You're on!" Sora said.
Sora, Verity, and Pikachu makes it to the battlefield, so Verity picked a Pokéball and threw it.
"Piplup! Go!" Verity called out. Her Piplup emerged from inside, ready to battle.
"Okay, the Pokémon I'm picking is Pikachu," Sora said, sending out Pikachu.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Ladies first," Sora said.
"Quit being such a gentleman! It's gonna cost you!" Verity said.
"Well, excuse me for being nice," Sora said.
"Piplup! Drill Peck!" Verity ordered. Piplup spins like a drill, coming at Pikachu.
"Okay, Pikachu! Iron Tail!" Sora ordered. Pikachu swings his tail, hitting Piplup.
"Piplup! Hydro Pump!" Verity ordered. Piplup fired Hydro Pump and sends it at the Mouse Pokémon.
"Dodge and use Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu fired Thunderbolt at the Penguin Pokémon, dealing such heavy damage on it. "Quick Attack!" Pikachu dashed at Piplup, hitting it. Piplup is sent flying and struck the opposite wall, resulting in a knockout.
"No way, I lost?" Verity asked. She rushed over to Piplup and helped it up. "Are you alright, Piplup?"
"Pip..." Piplup weakly said.
"Here, give this to Piplup," Sora said, handing Verity a Sitrus Berry.
"You're giving this to me? What's the catch?" Verity asked.
"No catch. Just figured your Piplup would need it," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"Anyway, I'm gonna head for the Pokémon Center to meet up with my friends," Sora said. Pikachu climbed up his shoulder before Sora took his leave.
Later, Dawn had explained the rules to Kairi. Kairi remembered being tod how the rules are compared to Kanto and Hoenn.
"You mean, I have to dress up for this one?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah. That's how it's done in the Sinnoh Pokémon Contests. We'll have to find one that suits you," Dawn said.
"I think I can help you with that, Kairi," Rei said, holding a package. "I suggest you try it on."
"Alright," Kairi said. She stepped in the changing room. After a few minutes, Kairi stepped out. Kairi is wearing a golden ball gown with a simply designed bodice, wrapped off-the-shoulder sleeves, long yellow opera gloves matching her outfit, a gold wide-hemmed floor-length skirt made of 8 triangular panels and a multiple-layered white petticoat with scalloped edging on the hemline, and yellow high-heeled shoes. She wore a golden tiara with sapphire jewels embedded on the tiara.
"Wow, you look very pretty, Kairi. You look just like a princess," Dawn said.
"Thank you, Dawn," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
A few moments later, Kairi came out to show everyone. As soon as she did, Sora was very captivated by her beauty. He could just stare at awe.
"So, how do I look?" Kairi asked.
"You look gorgeous," May said.
"You sure do," Leaf agreed.
"And I think Sora would totally agree," Kris said, gesturing to Sora who is still captivated.
"Sora! Earth to Sora, can you hear us? Hello?" Ash asked.
"Let me try," Rei said, snapping her fingers, snapping Sora out of it. "That did it."
"How do I look, Sora?" Kairi asked.
"You look beautiful. Very besutiful, Kairi," Sora said, blushing. Kairi blushes from Sora's compliment.
"Thank you, Sora," Kairi said.
"Say, isn't Dawn dressing up, too?" Ethan asked.
"Dawn told us to call her mom as soon as she went to change, so I think we should do that now," Lucas said.
"I agree," Rei said. With that said, Lucas made contact with Johanna in Dawn's home phone.
"Lucas, it's good to see your face again. And I see Sora and some other faces, too," Johanna said.
"My name is Riku, and this is my Eevee," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"My name's Naminé, and this is Azurill," Naminé introduced.
"And I'm Rei Sakura. We're acquaintances of your daughter," Rei said.
"A pleasure to meet you. I take it that Dawn received my package," Johanna said.
"Yeah, Dawn is trying it on right now," Lucas said.
"And here I am," Dawn announced as she does a pirouette. "Ta-da!"
"Wow, that's Dawn's Contest attire?" Chase asked.
Dawn is now wearing the dress she had chosen. Her attire is a pink dress with dark pink horizontal and vertical accents, and a pink sash. She also has her hair in a bun. Lucas blushed when he saw his crush in that dress.
"So, Lucas, what do you think?" Dawn asked. Lucas was blushing madly and his face turned pretty red. He scratched the back of his head. Sora, Kairi, and the rest of the group could tell he has it bad for her.
"Y-Y-You look very pretty," Lucas admitted. Dawn blushed he complimented her.
"Thanks, Lucas," Dawn said.
"I guess the rules are different here in Sinnoh than they in Hoenn and Kanto," Ethan said.
"Of course, Ethan. Coordinators always dress up during Pokémon Contests in the Sinnoh region. Thanks for the dress, mom. I love it," Dawn said.
"I'm thrilled that you like it and all, dear, but you need to take a look in the box I sent," Johanna said.
"Huh?" Dawn asked.
"There should have been a choker in that box," Johanna said.
"Choker? I didn't see a choker," Dawn said.
Suddenly, a Glameow is carrying a choker with a small red ribbon on it.
"Meow," Glameow said.
"What is that?" Riku asked.
"Eevee?" Eevee asked.
"It's a Glameow," Rui said.
"What's that Glameow is carrying?" Elaine asked.
"Hey, it's the choker," Johanna said.
"There you are," the orange-haired girl said.
"Are you the one who found my choker?" Dawn asked as Glameow jumped in the girl's arms.
"It was on the floor in the dressing room," the girl said.
"How did you know it's hers?" Wes asked.
"Matching that with the owner was a breeze. She's the only one who is wearing something that would go with it," the girl said.
"I am? Thank you," Dawn said, putting on the choker. She turned to her mother. "See? I got the choker, so you don't have to worry about a thing."
"When you tell me when not to worry, that's when I worry the most," Johanna said. Dawn winced when her mother said it.
They noticed the girl was gone.
"Hey, where did she go?" Lyra asked.
"She was just here a little while ago," Michael said.
"Honey," Johanna said. Dawn looked at her. "The last thing you need to be doing in your first Pokémon Contest is to be absent-minded, so watch out," Johanna said.
"Don't worry," Dawn said.
"And what do I do the most when you tell me not to worry?" Johanna reminded her daughter. Dawn groaned.
"I can assure you, ma'am, we'll all be there for both Dawn and Kairi, cheering for the both of them for the Pokémon Contest," Rei said.
"And I appreciate it, Miss Sakura. I'll be glued to the TV, so good luck," Johanna said.
"Okay, mom," Dawn said.
After a few moments, Kairi and Dawn had changed into their regular clothes. And they went off to register for the Jubelife City Pokémon Contest.
"May I help you, ladies?" The receptionist asked.
"We're both here to enter the Pokémon Contest, please," Dawn said.
"So, we would like to have a Contest Pass for each of us," Kairi said.
"Of course. I will only need you to register your information through your Rotom Phones," the receptionist requested.
"Okay," Kairi and Dawn said, putting their Rotom Phones on the pads before them. It takes a few seconds to get the registrations completed.
"There you go. Your ID has been downloaded from your Rotom Phone memory. You're all set. Those Contest passes will allow you to enter any Contest in the Sinnoh region when you choose to participate in them," the receptionist said.
"Thank you," Kairi and Dawn said, taking their Rotom Phones back.
"And you will need these Ball Capsules and these Stickers in the envelope," the receptionist said.
"Ball Capsules, huh?" Kairi asked.
"I take it that it's your first time participating in the Sinnoh region's contests?" The receptionist asked.
"Yeah. I had been in Pokémon Contests in different regions, so these are new to me," Kairi said.
"I'll be more than happy to explain. Pokémon Coordinators uses the Ball Capsules and Seals to make a a spectacular entrance. Simply place the Pokéball in the Ball Capsule and place the Stickers you wish on it and throw your Pokéball. I suggest you give it a try," the receptionist said.
"Sure," Kairi said, looking for a Sticker inside. She saw there was Stickers for different shapes and colors. She saw there was some heart, star, ribbon, smoke, electricity, bubble, fire, confetti, flower petals, music notes, ethereal, cool, sky, burning, stone, leaf, spark, and others. Kairi took out a pink Sticker shaped as a heart. She took out her Buneary's Pokéball and threw it. "Come out, Buneary!" Her Pokéball opened and Buneary came out of a pink heart. "Wow, that was amazing!" Kairi said.
"Awesome," Roxas and Xion said in unison.
"Good luck to the both of you," the receptionist said.
"Now, we're both in," Dawn said.
"So, we better get some training done," Kairi said
"Eevee," Angel said.
A little while later, Kairi and Dawn started to train for the Pokémon Contest. Kairi was training with her Starly with her Aerial Ace. Kairi has preapred some hoops.
"Okay, Starly! Aerial Ace!" Kairi ordered. Starly flew right through the hoops with Aerial Ace and lands a hit onto the star target she set off. "Good job, Starly."
"Starly," Starly said. She gently pets Starly on the head.
"I figured you were more of a Contest Pokémon anyway. You probably wouldn't make it as Paul's Pokémon," Kairi said.
"Starly," Kairi said.
On the very next day, Kairi and Dawn went off for backstage as the Contest has officially begun. Kairi and Dawn have begun to change into their Contest attire as the orange haired girl is now wearing a white vest with yellow crescents on her right chest and black and gold trimmings at the end of her sleeves, turquoise pants, white shoes.
A woman resembling Vivian comes on the stage to call the play-by-play. She wore a a yellow dress and a pink headband.
"Hey, isn't that the Lillian?" Chase asked.
"It does look like her, but also Vivian," Sora said.
"Not sure who're talking about, but that's not who you think that is. That would be Marian. I heard about her from Dawn. She hosts the Sinnoh region's Pokémon Contests," Lucas explained.
"Well, that explains a lot," Kris said.
"I wonder if Vivian's whole family hosts Contests," Leaf said.
"I would be surprised if they didn't," Riku said.
"Greetings and a warm welcome to Coordinators and Contest fans of all ages! We've all come together for one very special reason, and that's to find out who will take home the coveted and fabulous Jubilife City Contest Ribbon! Now I know you've all been waiting patiently, and now it's time for you to be rewarded!" Marian announced as the stage effects goes off. The crowd starts roaring. "We're coming at you live and on stage from the stadium located in Jublife City, the City of joy!" The crowd roared. Over in Pallet Town, Kairi's family are glued to the TV as they await for Kairi to win her first Contest in Sinnoh. Seth is on Yuta's lap as Mirei came in and joined in. At the Ketchum home, Karen, Blossom, and the Pichu are are watching it as well. "So, let's get down to business and find out who gets the Jubilife Ribbon! And a real beauty it is!" Marian holds out a light blue ribbon. "Add to this four additional contest wins, and you're eligible to compete in the prestigious Sinnoh Grand Festival. The winner of the event taking the title of Top Coordinator! It's time for me to introduce our judges, and here they are!" The crowd cheers as Mr. Contesta, Mr. Suziko, and a tall woman, who has purple eyes and hair, which is tied into four balloon-shaped pigtails. She wears a long purple dress, which is accented by white dots, and has a yellow X mark on her hip. She also wears a pair of white evening gloves, a white muffler and a pair of purple high heels. "Head of the judging committee and Pokémon Contest director, Mr. Contesta!"The crowd starts cheering.
"Thank you! I look forward to seeing some real teamwork between Coordinators and their Pokémon!" Mr. Contesta announced. The crowd roars.
"And now the head of the Pokémon Fan Club, Mr. Suziko!" Marian announced.
"Remarkable is the word. Thanks!" Mr. Suziko said. The crowd cheers on.
"And finally, a special guest judge! She's the Gym Leader of the Hearthome City Gym and former Pokémon Coordinator, Fantina!" Marian announced.
"Bonjour, meis amis! It is an honor to be here!" Fantina announced.
"She's a Gym Leader and a Pokémon Coordinator?" May asked.
"Wait, you guys remember Juan?" Brendan said.
"How could I forget? He's a Gym Leader and he used to be a Coordinator," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Who's Juan?" Lucas asked.
"Oh, right, you weren't with us at that time. We met Juan in Sootopolis City in the Hoenn region. He filled in for Wallace who resigned from the Gym because of Team Magma and Team Aqua," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
Backstage, Kairi is waiting for Dawn to come along.
"I wonder what's taking Dawn so long? I better go and check on her to make sure she's okay," Kairi said, going to check on Dawn.
Over to Dawn, she struggled to get her hair ready, but she's having trouble doing so. Dawn groaned in frustration.
"I'm supposed to be all ready to go, and I can't even get my hair right," Dawn said as the girl approached Dawn.
"Here, let me help you," the girl offered.
"Thank you. I didn't get a chance to introduce myself to you last time. My name's Dawn," Dawn introduced herself.
"I'm Zoey. So, is this your first Contest?" Zoey asked.
"How'd you know?" Dawn asked.
"You've got that first time vibe," Zoey said. Dawn groaned to herself.
"Lovely," Dawn deadpanned. "Oh, have you been in Contests before, Zoey?"
"Sure have," Zoey said.
"Wow! Have you won any Ribbons?" Dawn asked.
"Three Contests, one Ribbon," Zoey said.
"Awesome! Can I see it?" Dawn asked.
"Sure. Here," Zoey said, handing Zoey her Ribbon Case and looked into it. She saw the single Ribbon Zoey has with her.
"Ah, it's just adorable," Dawn said. Zoey had finished putting up Dawn's ponytail.
"All set, Dawn. What do you think?" Zoey asked.
"Wow, it looks great! Thanks again!" Dawn said. Dawn hands Zoey back her Rbbons case Kairi then came to the dressing room.
"Dawn, there you are. I was actually worried about you," Kairi said. She noticed Zoey with her. "I know you. You're that girl from before."
"Nice seeing you again. I take it that you two are friends," Zoey said.
"Yeah. My name's Kairi by the way," Kairi said.
"I'm Zoey. I'm looking forward in seeing you both in the finals," Zoey said.
"Likewise," Kairi said as Zoey took her leave.
"The finals? Oh, she thinks I'm going to be in the finals, and it's only my very first Contest," Dawn said.
"Don't think about that right now, Dawn. You just have to keep yourself steady. When a Coordinator gets nervous, it'll rub off on the Pokémon," Kairi said.
"How will I be able to do it, Kairi?" Dawn asked.
"Just trust in your Piplup and Buneary, and you'll do fine. Trust me," Kairi said. Dawn looked at Kairi in the eyes and she saw how sincere Kairi is being to her. Dawn's doubts then began to disappear.
"Thanks, Kairi," Dawn said.
"Anytime. I only helped you out because we're friends, so that's what friends do, Dawn. They help each other out when they feel down. Just don't expect me to go easy on you just because we're friends," Kairi said.
"I wouldn't want you to, Kairi," Dawn said.
"And now for contestant number one! It's Zoey!" Marian announced as Zoey makes her appearence on stage. Zoey takes out a Pokéball in the Ball Capsule with a white Smoke Sticker.
"Misdreavus! Curtain!" Zoey called out as she threw the Pokéball and white smoke covers Misdreavus as it makes its entrance. "Now, Double Team!" Misdreavus performs Double Team while in the smoke.
"That smokey silhouette really shows the mischeievous elegance of Misdreavus!" Marian announced.
"So mysterious," Naminé said.
"She knows what she's doing," May said.
"It's the perfect showcase," Wes said.
"Yeah, what a better way for a Ghost-type Pokémon than that?" Riku asked.
"I agree. Seeing this, and I am already convinced of her Pokémon's power," Rei said.
Dawn took out her Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Misdreavus, the Screech Pokémon
Type: Ghost
Misdreavus loves being mischievous by pulling in people's hair and scaring them.
"Confuse Ray!" Zoey ordered. Misdreavus perfomrs Confuse Ray as the dupicates all come out of the smoke as the original stays put. The crowd were anxious to see what else Zoey had in mind. "Use Shock Wave!" Misdreavus unleashed Showave, creating a lightning show for the crowd. They could also see how powerful Misdreavus is. They all cheered once Zoey had finished.
"It looks like Misdreavus and Zoey are joined at the hip! Electrifying!" Marian announced.
"Showing off her Pokémon in sihouette like that helped make a great performance!" Contesta said.
"And remarkable!" Mr. Suziko added.
"That was a magnifique balance between showing off her Misdreavus and its moves! Tres magnifique, indeed," Fantina said.
"And there you have it! Fantina said it was tres magnifique and first rate! Next up!" Marian annoucned. A Rapidash gallops on stage as a Beautifly sparkles with Morning Sun. A Scyther cuts a brook in two. A Buizel does a helicopter trick and flies in the air. A Bidoof chomps a log into splinters. A Blaze Breed Paldean Tauros charges, leaving a trail of flames behind him. "And next up is coming all the way from Pallet Town in the Kanto region! She has a reputation of winning first in the Poké Maiden Tournament in the Johto region and came out on top during the Kanto and Hoenn Grand Festivals, say hi to Kairi!" The crowd cheers as Kairi makes her appearence on stage. Kairi takes out a Pokéball in a Ball Capsule and in Sky Sticker A on it. She threw it.
"Starly! Go!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and Starly came out with fluttering feathers coming out.
"Starly!" Starly said upon entry. Kairi has taken out her hoops and saved one with a star target.
"Aerial Ace on the target!" Kairi ordered. Starly dashed through the hoops and right toward the target.
"Starly makes a speedy start with that Aerial Ace!" Marian announced.
"Use Wing Attack!" Kairi ordered. Starly flew right at the target again and uses Wing Attack on the target, cutting it up. The plumage from Starly's wings gives her a certain charm.
"Starly's feathers are giving off a brilliant shine to them!" Marian announced.
"One more Aerial Ace!" Kairi said, taking out another target. Starly dashed at the target, making it explode in sparkles, captivating everyone.
"An Starly makes a spectacular finish! Let's hear what our judges has to say!" Marian announced.
"A creative way for Starly to use Aeria Ace from the start and at the finish," Contesta said.
"Besides, remarkable!" Suziko added.
"A marvelous display of Starly's speed! Starly's Trainer has a certain sparkle! I have witnessed it from the moment she came to the stage," Fantina said.
The crowd went wild for Kairi's performance, but no more than Sora and Pikachu. Kairi waved to the audince.
"Way to go, Kairi!" Sora yelled.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu added.
"Shouldn't Dawn be up next?" Lucas asked.
"She should be," Kris said.
"And now, we have a debut! A young Corrdinator who hails from Twinleaf Town! So let's give her a warm welcome: Dawn!" Marian annoucned. Dawn makes her debut on the stage as she remembered what Kairi said to her about being nervous.
"Showtime," Dawn said. She took out her Pokéball with the Foamy seal. "Okay Piplup! Spotlight!" Her Pokéball opens as bubbles emerges from the Pokéball and Piplup happily comes out. "Use Bubble Beam!" Piplup fires Bubble Beam, taking the other bubbles in the air and they swirl around. "Now, use Peck!" Piplup builds up energy with Peck.
"And Piplup's storing up some serious energy in that beak!" Marian announced.
"Now, Piplup! Let's go!" Dawn announced. Piplup jumped in the air and rapidly started pecking at the bubbles.
"Now, that's fast! I can hardly see it happening! But I can see enough to know it's beautiful!" Marian announced. Dawn did well on her first time in a contest. Dawn bows her head as the crowd starts roaring.
"A truly impressive performance! The combination of speed and cuteness kept me riveted!" Mr. Contesta said.
"Remarkable!" Mr. Suziko said.
"I was at awe at Piplup's talent! I couldn't take my eyes off of them!" Fantina said.
Back in Twinleaf Town, Johanna was impressed by her daughter's display.
"Not bad, but still a little stiff," Johanna said. Glameow agreed with her Trainer.
Back stage, Dawn went back with the other Coordinators and Kairi beamed at Dawn's debut performance.
"That was wonderful, Dawn," Kairi said.
"Thank you, Kairi. My heart was beating like a giant bass drum up there. Glad it all went so quick," Dawn said.
"You should be feeling pretty good right about now," Kairi said.
"I guess I should be, but I'm just relieved that it's finally over," Dawn said. Zoey walked up to the two girls.
"It's too soon to be relieved, isn't it?" Zoey asked. "We've still gotta meet in the finals, right?"
"She's right, Dawn. After that display, you should make it in," Kairi said.
"Yeah, same to you," Dawn said.
"And now it's time for the judges' results! So here are the Coordinators who will be moving on down the line to the next round!" Marian announced as everyone was anxiously waiting to see who will be moving on and who will not. In the audience, Sora and Pikachu were anxious to see if Kairi will be moving on. Lucas was also anxious to see. "All right, let's see what the judges have to say! The eight contestants moving on to the next round's Contest Battle are..." The computer shows the eight finalists. Kairi, Dawn, and Zoey are among the final eight, "These lucky eight!" The crowd cheers as they made it.
"Alright! I made it!" Dawn said.
"Nothing like getting pass that first step!" Kairi said.
"What a relief," Dawn said.
"Congrats," Zoey said.
"Thanks, Zoey. But you made it all look easy," Dawn said. "The same with you, Kairi. I can see why you won the Kanto andHoenn Grand Festivals."
"I don't know about that, Dawn," Kairi said. "But you gotta remember that it's a whole new ball game. If we end up battling each other, I'm not pulling my punches with you." Dawn understood.
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Dawn said, They shook hands, promising each other a good battle if they do end up against each other.
"Okay, ladies and gentlemen, time for our second round, and here's the battle board!" Marian announced. "So, let's give the board a random shuffle and see our matchups." The matchups pits Kairi against Zoey in the first battle as Dawn is in the fourth round.
"Wow! Kairi! You're in the first round!" Dawn said.
"I wasn't expecting this to happen," Zoey said. She turned to Kairi. "I hope you're ready, Kairi, because I plan to give you my all."
"Right back you, Zoey," Kairi said. They shook hands. "I wish you luck."
"You too, Kairi," Zoey said.
The first round of the finals was about to begin as Kairi and Zoey got into position for their battle.
"This is it! The moment you've been all waiting for! Get ready for the scond round battles! The Coordinator who can show off their most beautiful moves and strip away the most points from their opponent in five minutes wins! So let's get started with our first matchup! It's Kairi in one corner and Zoey in the other! We've got a five minute time limit on the clock and we're off" Marian announced. The clock started running. Kairi and Zoey both took out a Pokéball in a Ball Capsule. Kairi has hers with a Bubble Sticker B as Zoey has hers in a Party Sticker D.
"Squirtle! Go!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and Squirtle came out with a lot of bubbles coming out.
"Glameow! Curtain!" Zoey called out. Glameow comes out with a twirl while surrounded by white confetti.
"Squirtle! Use your Water Gun!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle fired Water Gun at the Catty Pokémon.
"Dodge and use Iron Tail!" Zoey ordered. Glameow avoids Squirtle's Water Gun and comes at the Tiny Turtle Pokémon with Iron Tail.
"Squirtle misses with Water Gun and now Glameow is coming at Squirtle with Iron Tail!" Marian announced. Kairi lost some points.
"Squirtle! Mega Kick!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle lets out strong Mega Kick and lands a devastating hit onto Glameow.
"For an Water-type Pokémon, Squirtle is battling like a Fighting-type Pokémon. Squirtle is making an epic comeback!" Marian announced.
"Follow up with your Ice Punch!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle moved in with an Ice Punch to land a hit onto Glameow.
"Glameow! Fury Swipe!" Zoey ordered. Glameow heads for Squirtle and both land a hit onto one another. Kairi and Zoey both lost some points with that one.
"That was good! Another Ice Punch!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle heads for Glameow to land an icy punch onto Glameow.
"Iron Tail!" Zoey ordered. Glameow swings its tail at Squirtle and they collide. Glameow straightens its tail and lands a hit. Kairi loses some more points. Glameow's tail becomes frozen solid much to Zoey's surprise. Zoey loses some more points.
"Glameow's tail is now frozen solid thanks to Squirtle's Ice Punch! And now, they're both losing some serious points! We're at the thirty second mark and at this point, this could be anone's match!" Marian announced.
"Glameow! Shadow Claw!" Zoey ordered. Glameow heads for the Tiny Turtle Pokémon to land a hit onto him.
"Squirtle! Ice Punch on the ground!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle turns the whole battlefield into an ice floor just by punching it. And Squirtle slides on the ice like a figure skater. "Now, use Mega Kick!" Squirtle slides towards Glameow and lands a heavy blow onto Glameow. The time was up as Zoey has little points remaining.
"What a glorious battle! The winner of the first battle of the second round is Kairi!" Marian announced. The crowd applauds for Kairi as she waved to the audince.
After that, Sora made it to the back to congratulate his girlfriend.
"That was great, Kairi. It gave me the chills," Sora said.
"Glad you enjoyed the show, Sora," Kairi said. She gave a kiss on Sora's cheek. Zoey walked in and she looked right at Kairi. She gave her a real big smile.
"That was an amazing display, Kairi. Your battling skills are outstanding," Zoey said.
"Thanks, Zoey. I wasn't really alone out there. Sora was with me in spirit," Kairi said. Zoey looked right at him and smiled.
"I think Kairi is lucky to have a supportive boyfriend like you, Sora. I really mean it," Zoey said.
"Thanks a lot, Zoey," Sora said.
"And I'll behave to tell you, if you weren't in a relationship with her, I'd fall for you. But, I promise I won't come between you," Zoey said. Kairi felt a little jealous about she was glad to know Zoey isn't that kind of person. And Croagunk is on his best behavior.
After the second battle of the second round, Dawn had her battle and won. Dawn's Buneary had was just as strong as hers. Kairi had her battle and won. Dawn had her second battle and won it, and now it was down to Kairi and Dawn.
"And now, we're down to our remaining two finalists Kairi from Pallet Town and Dawn from Twinleaf Town! This battle will decide on who will be winning this Pokémon Contest! Now, if you're ready, ladies, we're about to begin!" Marian announced. Kairi took out their Pokéballs, containing their chosen Pokémon. The clock starts running.
"Buneary! Spotlight!" Dawn called out.
"Go! Squirtle!" Kairi called out. Buneary came out in a flurry of flower petals. Squirtle came out in his bubbly entry.
"Buneary! Dizzy Punch!" Dawn ordered. Buneary moves in to land a punch onto Squirtle.
"Squirtle! Ice Punch!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle moves in to deliver a freezing punch onto the Rabbit Pokémon. Both collide with each other and both Coordinators lost the same sum of points.
"Kairi and Dawn starts up with a collision of Ice Punch and Dizzy Punch! A real balance of power!" Marian announced.
"Squirtle Water Gun!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle fires Water Gun right at Buneary.
"Dodge it, Buneary!" Dawn ordered. Buneary tries to avoid Water Gun, but ended up getting hit, costing Dawn some more points. "Buneary!" Buneary jumped in the air and started to come right down at Squirtle.
"Dodge and use Ice Punch!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle avoids Buneary and gave the Rabbit Pokémon a punch in the face, causing Dawn to lose some more points.
"Dawn's not doing so good!" Marian announced.
"Buneary! Dizzy Punch!" Dawn ordered. Buneary started to move in with a Dizzy Punch to land on the Tiny Turtle Pokémon.
"Buneary's moving on in with a Dizzy Punch! How will Kairi respond before she hits?" Marian announced.
"Squirtle! Use Ice Punch!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle lands an Ice Punch onto Buneary, dealing some damage.
"And Buneary gets overpowered by Squirtle's Ice Punch! That gave me the chills!" Marian announced.
"Water Gun!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle sends out Water Gun at Buneary.
"Ice Beam!" Dawn ordered. Buneary fired Ice Beam and Squirtle's Water Gun ends up being frozen. The audience are captivated by how beautiful it looked.
"Use Mega Kick!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle jumped in the air and does a flip before delivering a strong Mega Kick on Buneary.
"Squirtle makes an awesome jump and came down with a powerful kick!" Marian announced.
"I have never seen a Squirtle with so much spirit," Contesta said.
"Remarkable," Suziko said.
"Sacre bleu! Her Squirtle's skills are magnifique! Such exceptional skills!" Fantina said.
"We're pass the thirty second mark and Kairi still up ahead!" Marian announced.
"Man, she's even better in a battle than I thought," Dawn said, amazed. "Buneary! Go!" Buneary heads towards Squirtle and lands a series of hits onto her. Dawn lost a huge sum of points.
"Now Dawn is making a comeback onto Squirtle! Could this be Dawn's chance at a Contest Ribbon?" Marian asked. Kairi was losing points from each hit.
"Keep it up!" Dawn said.
"Hang in there!" Kairi said.
"Bounce!" Dawn ordered. Buneary jumps to land a hit onto Squirtle. Kairi had to end it now.
"Water Gun!" Kairi ordered. Squirtle fires a powerful Water Gun, hitting Buneary. The Rabbit Pokémon was down, but not out. By that time, the clock has run out as Kairi had a little more points left than Dawn.
"Time's up! And the winner of the Jubilife City Contest is Kairi! A huge congratulations are in order!" Marian announced.
Back in Twinleaf Town, Johanna was proud of Dawn's accomplishments because she knew her daughter did her best.
"Dawn has done better than I thought. She's still much to learn," Johanna said.
After the Contest, all of the competing Coordinators all gathered as Contesta has presented Kairi her first Contest Ribbon of Sinnoh.
"Let's give a big hand to Kairi as she recieves the prestigious Jubilife City Contest Ribbon! A gorgeous ribbon, and appreciative crowd, and a great champion!" Marian announced. Kairi has accepted the Ribbon from him.
After the Contest had concluded, Kairi, Dawn, and Zoey dressed back into their regular clothes and met up with the rest of the group.
"Kairi, congratulations on your first victory in Sinnoh," Zoey said.
"Thank you, Zoey. I hope you win your next Ribbons. I really do," Kairi said.
"And since you won the Jubelife City Contest, Kairi, that leaves only four more Contests for you to win," Roxas said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"That is correct," Rei said.
"Anyway, Dawn, how did you enjoy your first Contest?" May asked.
"It felt like I was riding the biggest roller coaster ever! But t was a lot of fun!" Dawn said.
"We're just glad you had fun, Dawn," Kris said.
"And we had fun watching you," Chase said.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
"Zoey, will I see you at another Contest?" Dawn asked.
"You'll just have to show up," Zoey said.
"I got one more thing I wanna say to you," Dawn said.
"Sure. What?" Zoey asked.
"I know I may not look like much now, but I'm gonna keep on training until I become a great Coordinator, too!" Dawn said.
"Spoken like a real Pokémon Coordinator," May said.
"I'm with her. You're going have to train very hard to become a Top Coordinator," Sorrel said.
"I do agree with your two friends. Just keep working hard and you'll get there. I'm already looking forward to our next Contest," Zoey said, taking off.
"Well, it'll be your turn to earn your first Ribbon soon, Dawn. And you already have our support," Naminé said.
"Azu, Azu," Azurill chirped.
"Thank you, Naminé. I'm going to do my best," Dawn said.
"We know you will," Brendan said.
"And we'll all root for you," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Now that the matter of the Contest has been settled, the next stop will be your first Gym battle," Rei said.
"Yeah, and that would be in Oreburgh City," Elaine said.
"Eevee," Maple said.
Dawn may not have won her first Contest, but she isn't going to let it get her down, so their next stop would be Oreburgh City. Sora and Kairi did wonder if Zoey is one of the chosen, but they knew they will have to see for themselves, but for now, we will have to end it right here and prepare for the next adventure coming our way.
