Now it's time for the Jiggy collecting to begin!
This is the fun part of the fanfic, basically. Though I hope you didn't mind the opening two chapters. They didn't involve Jiggy collecting (for the most part) but I figured I would introduce the main villain early on.
Chapter 3: Beat Your Vegetables
"It feels good to be adventuring again!" exclaimed Banjo.
"It sure does!" nodded Kazooie.
Unbeknownst to the trio, Bongo was plotting against them.
He was growing some plants to attack the team using a watering can and some fertilizer. And he was wearing a gardening hat.
These plants were enemies that Banjo and Kazooie were familiar with.
"I've gotten enough vegetables to make a salad!" exclaimed Bongo. He was an omnivore so he wouldn't mind a salad from time to time. But these vegetables were not for eating. They were for fighting.
Though he wondered if they would be enough to thwart Banjo and Kazooie. Something told him he would need to do more than that. But it was a start, at least.
There sure were a lot of stories about the pair. Some might be false, but some might be true. He would ask Gruntilda but she claimed that she had been scammed by King Mingmong. Even though she had not.
Banjo and Kazooie saw Chimpy.
He was munching on some oranges.
Maybe he should drink some orange juice to go with them.
"Hey, Chimpy!" exclaimed Banjo.
"Hey, Banjo!" shouted Chimpy.
He waved his hand at Banjo.
It was good to see an old friend. Of course, chances are they were going to meet a lot of old friends in this adventure…along with some new ones.
"I thought monkeys liked bananas." noted Enchanta.
"We're flexible." answered Chimpy. Personally he happened to like orange juice as well as oranges. Where was the blender?
"Wait, aren't chimps apes?" questioned the witch. It seemed a bit odd to name a monkey after one. Though monkeys and apes were similar.
"I know." nodded the chimp. But he happened to like the name personally.
"I wonder if they'll rename the mountain now that Mumbo is gone." noted Kazooie. It would feel strange having Mumbo's Mountain without Mumbo.
"Maybe they'll keep the name as a tribute." suggested Banjo.
"By the way, I heard Conga went to join the circus!" exclaimed Chimpy.
Considering that he was hogging the oranges for himself, maybe it was good that he was gone.
Now Chimpy could eat the oranges in peace.
"We met Conga at the circus." noted Banjo. They had to pay him to visit the big top.
Luckily, he had been tamed since their encounter two years ago. No longer would he throw oranges at them.
So Chimpy wouldn't have anything to worry about if he decided to visit Witchyworld. Though given the terrible safety record, he shouldn't try any of the rides. Unless they had been fixed.
Nearby, Bongo had finished growing the vegetables. His work had paid off. He was glad that he had bought that gardening manual.
They were ready to attack Banjo and Kazooie.
"I bet those two would be disappointed if their journey wasn't challenging." remarked Bongo.
He would make sure it was.
It didn't take long for Banjo and Kazooie to encounter them.
And even less for Kazooie to recognize them.
"Hey, I remember those vegetables from Spiral Mountain!" exclaimed Kazooie.
"I don't remember them being in Banjo-Tooie." noted Banjo. They had only been in Banjo-Kazooie.
Perhaps the Hag 1 had scared them off.
It had certainly done that to the Jinjos. The Jinjo Village was completely empty when they had first encountered it. Luckily, they had brought the Jinjos back to the village. King Jingalimg was definitely happy to see them again.
Unfortunately, the Grey Jinjos hadn't noticed the Hag 1 until it was too late. It was a bit weird given the earthquakes it created, but the narrator is digressing.
They ended up being crushed along with their house.
Perhaps they could have used B.O.B. to resurrect them.
But then again, perhaps the device couldn't be used to revive a group.
Not at one time, anyways.
Moving on, it looked as if the vegetables had returned.
Time would tell if any more of their old adversaries would return as well.
Aside from Gruntilda, of course.
After defeating the vegetables, our heroes received a Jiggy.
"That sure was easy!" remarked Kazooie. There were Jiggies that were hard to collect, but this one was not one of them.
"True. But this is the beginning of our adventure." noted Banjo. They couldn't expect too much.
Chances are their foes would get stronger as they made progress.
Who knew what King Mingmong would have waiting for them in store inside his castle?
Od course, they would have it to make it that far to see.
Meanwhile, Bongo realized that the vegetables had failed.
He was going to have to do better than that if he wanted to defeat Banjo and Kazooie. After all, they had three games' worth of experience.
But he still had some tricks up his sleeve.
Perhaps he could persuade some of the locals to fight the bear.
He knew there were some Tickers nearby.
They happened to want Banjo's backpack.
Though they would probably reconsider if they knew there was a bird inside of it.
Our heroes saw the vegetables that Bongo had grown.
"I remember them!" exclaimed Banjo.
He had seen them in Banjo-Kazooie.
What they were doing in Mumbo's Mountain, he wasn't sure.
But then again, it seemed they weren't in Spiral Mountain anymore. So it looked like they had gone to a different mountain.
Enchanta noticed that Wumba's Wigwam was nearby.
"Is that Humba Wumba's wigwam?" asked Enchanta.
"She's everywhere." remarked Kazooie. She had counted no less than seven wigwams. Did one woman really need that many? At least it made it easy for her to find.
"She sure is." nodded Banjo. Every world they had visited in Banjo-Tooie, Wumba had been there.
Though he did admit that he wasn't complaining.
Humba Wumba was nothing but helpful to the duo during their second adventure. Even if Mumbo Jumbo hadn't had a high opinion of her.
Her transformations had allowed them to collect multiple Jiggies, which had helped them unlock new worlds.
Perhaps she could help them once again.
Of course, they would need a Glowbo. But they were never too hard to find. Otherwise their adventure would be harder than it needed to be.
Since our heroes could always use an helping hand, our heroes decided to visit Humba Wumba.
It was good that she was still alive. They had lost Mumbo, so chances are they couldn't afford to lose her too.
"Greetings, bear and bird. Here for transformation, are you?" asked Humba Wumba. It was always a pleasure doing business with them. Banjo and Kazooie were her top customers.
"She talks kind of funny." noted Enchanta. She herself was a magician but she felt like she talked normal…unlike her former mistress. Being a perpetual rhymer wasn't for her. Though maybe she could try writing a poem sometime.
"We all have our quirks." acknowledged Banjo. His was his love of taking naps. Kazooie's was being snarky.
"What do you have in store for us this time, magic woman?" asked Kazooie. She had a knack for finding nicknames for people.
It seemed Humba Wumba was no exception. Though she never seemed to come up with names for Banjo. Was it because he was the one person she respected? If so, it was good to know she respected some people.
"Give Glowbo and Humba show you." answered Humba Wumba.
"I know about Glowbos. They're of big help for casting spells." noted Enchanta. Though Gruntilda didn't seem to need them. Was she just that good?
"Yeah. We found loads of them in Banjo-Tooie." remarked Banjo. Wherever Humba and Mumbo were, there were Glowbos.
Suddenly, she noticed something.
"Wait…isn't that a Glowbo right over there?" asked the young witch.
"Humba wonder why not notice." questioned Humba Wumba. Maybe because it was small? Still, the fact that it was in her house made her wonder if she needed Banjo and Kazooie's help to find them.
But then again, she appreciated all the things that Banjo and Kazooie did for her.
Maybe she needed to pay more attention to her surroundings.
Banjo picked up the Glowbo and put it in the pool.
There was inevitably a splash.
"How is Mumbo doing?" asked Humba Wumba.
"He is no longer with us." explained Banjo.
Humba Wumba's eyes widened. The fact that Mumbo Jumbo had died was alarming to her.
"What happen to Mumbo?" questioned the shaman.
"He got killed by the king of Minjos!" exclaimed Kazooie. It was a shocking event, to be sure. King Mingmong meant business.
Humba Wumba was sad to see Mumbo gone. Even if she had competed with him in the past.
"Humba hear of Minjo King. He bad news!" shouted the shaman.
It seemed he had finally decided to make his move.
"So, are you going to transform me into a Ticker?" asked Banjo.
"Yes. But keep eye out for Lickers." warned Humba Wumba.
"Lickers?" questioned Kazooie. This was the first that she had heard of them.
"Anteaters. They take up residence here. Hungry for Tickers, they are." explained the shaman.
Enchanta looked outside and saw one of the Lickers.
The Tickers were careful to stay away from them.
"I guess the Jinjos aren't the only ones who have nemeses whose name sounds identical to theirs." remarked Enchanta.
However, they decidedly differed in appearance. One could tell an ant and an anteater apart very easily…which was pretty useful when you were an ant.
Humba Wumba nodded.
"Maybe we shouldn't turn into a Ticker just yet." suggested Kazooie.
"Probably a good call." noted Banjo. Those Lickers would be dangerous if they saw them while they were transformed into Tickers.
The Tickers were standing outside of the hive.
Apparently, they were worried that the Lickers would sneak in.
They could see one outside.
"You think we should help the Tickers?" asked Banjo. They sure seemed to be in trouble this time. Of course, he was a source of trouble for bees, given that he destroyed their beehives to collect their honeycombs.
"I don't know, they seem to want to steal your backpack." noted Kazooie. Can't they get their own backpacks? Given how strong ants were known to be they could carry a lot in those backpacks.
"True." acknowledged Banjo. "I don't think I want them to be lunch though."
They decided to ask them if they would like some help.
"I suppose if you take care of those Lickers, we could grant you an audience with our royal highness." noted one of the Tickers.
"You have a monarch now?" asked Kazooie.
"Yes, we do." nodded a Ticker.
"Considering you are ants, that makes a lot of sense." remarked Enchanta.
Luckily, the Lickers were not hard to deal with.
They did have long tongues, however.
So they had extended range.
The Tickers were grateful for them for their help.
So they took them to their leader.
The ant queen in question was much larger than the others.
And she had a egg sack.
Nearby, Bongo decided to visit the Grublin tribe. Something told him that they would be of help in defeating Banjo and Kazooie. He figured he wouldn't do garden work this time. Perhaps recruiting the tribe would be faster.
As it turned out, the Grublin tribe had a leader now. A chieftain in this case.
Bongo had a plan.
He would consult with their leader about taking down Banjo and Kazooie.
If he could persuade him to take down the two, then perhaps the two of them would fall.
Granted, the two had experience dealing with Grublins.
But they were a bit stronger since last they met. Now they came in more varieties.
And yes, Bongo could buy his own bamboo instead of working with King Mingmong.
He worked with the king out of loyalty, and because he enjoyed the tasks the king gave him.
"Hey, Grublins! I brought you a peace offering!" exclaimed Bongo.
The Grublins were intrigued by this offer.
What was the peace offering?
As it turned out, the peace offering was a bag of notes.
The Grublins were happy to have it. Notes made the worlds go round.
"I have a favor to ask of your leader." said Bongo.
The Grublins took them to him.
Not only was he larger than the other Grublins, but he was red in color.
He was wearing a feather headdress to let people know that he was in charge of the tribe.
He was sitting on a wooden throne.
"What do you want from us?" asked the chieftain. He hoped that it was something interesting.
"I want you to take down a bear and bird." spoke Bongo.
"My people have encountered the two in the past." noted the chief. It hadn't been a pleasant encounter for them.
They had caused them grief. Though it had been a long time since they had last encountered the two.
Of course, they had only retaliated in self-defense, but it didn't matter to the chief.
"You have a deal." said the chief.
"Good!" exclaimed Bongo.
The less Jiggies our heroes obtained, the better.
Though he did wonder if the Grublin chief had a Jiggy himself.
It wouldn't surprise him.
It looks like Bongo is hiring minions to take down Banjo and Kazooie.
And yes, our heroes aren't going to be facing him just yet.
For now, they'll be facing his minions. Like the Grublins he swayed to his side.
But rest assured, there will be a boss battle shortly.
And yes, that boss fight will be the chieftain.
