I could hear Edward talking to the others in hushed tones, hushed so that even a vampire like myself wouldn't be able to hear them. Then everyone was rushing outside. Looking outside of my brother's window, I could see them branching off in different directions.
I huffed, folding my arms across my chest. The lock on the door clicked, and Jasper came in.
"You got left here too, huh?" I said, and he chuckled a bit. "Edward wanted me to stay here to look after you."
"You mean watch me so that I didn't go after them." I retorted. "I'm not dumb."
"I didn't say that you were."
"I don't get why I couldn't go with."
Jasper sighed softly. "Don't tell him that I told you, but Edward thinks that he might have seen your gym teacher."
I felt like my eyes were so wide that they could pop out of their sockets. "Coach Anderson?"
Jasper nodded his head. "There's something that's off about him. Whoever it was, Edward tried to read their thoughts, but he couldn't."
I raised an eyebrow upon hearing that. Edward could readeveryone'smind, so the fact that he couldn't read this person's mind, if it was a person, was very troubling.
"If he can't read their minds, then it has to be some kind of supernatural creature." I said after a few moments. "Carlisle said something about a demon, and getting someone to help."
"John and Dean Winchester." Jasper muttered.
"You don't sound like you're a big fan of them."
"They hunt creatures like us, so forgive me if I sound a bit pissed off about it."
"Carlisle said that they owe him, so they wouldn't try anything."
"They wouldn't do anything to Carlisle, that doesn't say anything about the rest of us."
I bit my lip, realizing that my brother had a point. Just because they owed Carlisle a favor, it didn't mean that they wouldn't try and kill any of us, it would only be Carlisle and possibly Esme that would be safe, considering that she was his wife. But we weren't technically his kids, so where did that leave us?
It seemed like ages before everyone got back, and Jasper and I were told that whoever it was that Edward had sensed, they had gotten away.
"We couldn't find them anywhere." Edward said. We were all gathered in the living room. I had a bag of Cheetos, the puffed kind, they were my comfort food when I had been alive, and man, did I need that kind of comfort right about now.
"So what happens now?" I asked. I had already gone through half of a bag and it hadn't even been ten minutes since we had all sat down.
Carlisle sighed. "There's really nothing that we can do until John and Dean get here."
"And who's to say that they won't kill us instead of help us? I get that they owe you a favor, but that's you, they don't owe any of us shit."
"They wouldn't try anything, they know that they would be killed on the spot if they did. I talked to Dean, he said that they would be here tomorrow sometime. His dad is MIA, so it's going to be him and his brother Sam."
"Why's his dad missing?"
"He didn't say. He's probably off on another job somewhere. Now, when they get here, I want you all on your best behavior, understand me?"
I held up my hands in surrender. "I'll behave myself, but I can't make any promises about the rest of us."
"I can keep Emmett under control." Rosalie smirked as she looked at her boyfriend. I tried not to think too much about how he was her boyfriend but was also technically her brother. Sometimes I wondered if we didn't belong in Alabama. Needless to say, Roaslie was not amused the first time I brought that up. It was also the only time I brought it up, as she threatened to tear my head off my shoulders if I said anything like that again.
"Tessa, would you be able to go to the store and get some things?"
"What happened to me not being able to be in intimate settings with people?"
Carlisle sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Relax, I'm kidding. I'll go to the store, you just write down a list of the things that I need to get."
"You're gonna be the death of me."
"Second death, you mean."
Carlisle flashed me a warning look, but that look didn't stay on his face for very long before a smile replaced it. "You're impossible to deal with sometimes. "
"And you love me anyway. Alice, you and Jasper feel like going with me?"
"I don't think that Jasper should-"
"You trust me enough to go out and about, I think that Jasper should be given a chance, too. Besides, Alice and I will be there to corral him if anything goes wrong. Besides, I'm going to need help, we're going to be buying food for the foreseeable future, since we don't know how long they'll be staying for. Are they staying here, or are they getting a motel?"
"They'll be staying here in our guest rooms."
"Of course they are." I sighed softly. "Right, while we're gone, Rosalie and Emmett, can you make sure that the rooms are decent?"
"Yes ma'am." Emmett gave me a mock salute, to which I rolled my eyes. "You're so hilarious Emmett...not. Edward, can you try and see if you can sense this creature again or not?"
"Who put you in charge?" Edward asked teasingly.
"I did." Carlisle said with a small laugh. "She seems to know what she's doing. Esme and I will go out and hunt, make sure that everyone has enough blood to last while the Winchesters are here, to show them that we truly don't drink human blood and stick to animal blood only."
"Well, it seems like everyone has their jobs." I clapped my hands together. "Let's get rolling, and hope that everything goes smoothly."
But we're the Cullens, when have things ever gone smoothly for us?
