Chapter 31
The next day…
A puff of breath escaped a pair of plush lips and drops if sparkling sweat danced around in the room as her body moved. A pair of blue eyes hid beneath closed lids and twitched ever so slightly as her body moved from side to side.
He was relentless, quick and dangerous.
She could feel the way he wielded his sharp blades, all her body doing was continuous dodging. She could feel her heightened senses and haki swirling around her body, not having a difficult time getting out of the way at all.
"You wanted me to come and fight you, but you don't seem to plan on attacking me at all, Rosalie." Killer's voice rang in her ears as he stopped, her eyes opening. She gave him a small smile and chuckled while placing her hands on her hips.
"Sorry about that. I wanted to make sure that I still have my edge. Ever since what happened I seemed to lose my style of fighting." Rosalie looked at the blade sheathed by her side and grabbed the locked weapon.
"Rosalie…"
"I know. I know. Just…give me a second…" Rosalie closed her eyes and stepped into a stance. She could feel nothing but the cold metal around the dagger. This is what she needed to find. She needed to find her strength again.
She couldn't afford to be predictable anymore. She had to be unpredictable and strong or she won't be able to get Law back. What was she lacking then? What was she missing in her fighting? Where was her drive?
Rosa-ya…
Killer instinctively retracted his blades when Rosalie suddenly flashed in front of him, the sealed blade to his neck. Despite knowing he can't be harmed by it, he felt threatened and couldn't move his body. He could feel Rosalie's haki ripple off her body, her strong blue eyes shining with determination.
"Ah, I got it. Thanks, Killer. I guess I just had to get my motivation right," Rosalie stated oblivious to Killer's silent attitude. She had it. She just needed to remember who she did this for and she would be well on her way.
She was ready.
"Rosalie-san!" Blake called, his dark-haired companion by his side as they entered the large training hall. Rosalie smiled at them while Killer finally relaxed his rigid body and looked back at the two males. It seemed like they came to get her.
"Blake, Ryusei. Are you finished packing up for our trip yet?" Rosalie asked as she grabbed her water bottle. She appreciated the cold liquid that soothed her dry mouth and throat. She could feel her muscles strain slightly but she could deal with it. Especially since she had a good night's rest.
Rosalie felt her cheeks tint at the thought but quickly snapped out of it when she received blank looks from the two males. "Rosalie-san, did you hear?" Blake asked and Rosalie sweat dropped while shaking her head.
"Sorry, my mind was wandering elsewhere."
"We finished packing everything we needed. Kid gave us enough food and water for about a week's journey by then we should arrive at another island to restock," Ryusei stated in his usual monotone and Rosalie nodded.
"Thank you. I do appreciate it. I'll freshen up and grab my things before I join you at the docks. Killer, can I ask you to get the boys for me? I would hate it to not say goodbye to the crazy bunch" Rosalie asked and the masked male nodded.
"No problem. That is, if they aren't already waiting for you," Killer pointed out and Rosalie laughed as she left the training hall. She could feel her heart give a small squeeze at the thought of her leaving the Kid Pirates.
She was fond of them.
At first, it was challenging, especially with Kid, however, it wasn't long until they all grew quite close. They had been through a lot together and she wouldn't take back any of what happened. She would love to share the stories they had with her crew…
Rosalie stopped in her tracks and her brows furrowed. Her crew. She still hoped that they were alright. She knew that they aren't on contacting terms and wondered if they had reached Zou by now. If they did, how was it? Did they encounter any trouble? Did they eat enough?
A soft chuckle escaped her lips and she shook her head as she started to freshen up. She sounded more like a mother than a crewmember. In all fairness, she did cook for them, made sure they were spoiled and taken care of. Maybe she was more like a mother figure.
It was the same with Law, though. She wondered if he was alright, if he encountered any trouble, if he still ate enough, if he still slept enough... Despite worrying she was still bitter and angry with him for leaving her in the dark.
She wanted him to share everything with her just like she had done. Nevertheless, he chose to go on his own and leave her behind, not knowing where he was going or even what he was planning. When she found him, he was going to get a piece of her mind.
"You look like you're going to kill someone rather than going to find someone," Kid spoke up suddenly and Rosalie jumped slightly in shock. She didn't hear him come into her room! She glanced back at his serious, yet smirking, expression.
"Well, now that you have me a heart attack, I might change my plans," she playfully snapped at the male as she finished, closing her bag and letting out a sigh. She looked back at him, his reddish orange eyes showing his unease and unhappiness.
"How did the training with Killer go?" Kid asked, not wanting to talk about her departure. It was haunting his mind enough as it was. He wanted to think of something else even if it was only for a little while.
"It went good. My haki seems to be in perfect form. I needed to find my motivation again. I became lazy and lost my way but I'll be fine from here on out. How's that new invention coming along?" Rosalie asked as she slung her bag over her shoulder.
Kid let out a sigh and shrugged. "Not much going on there. I haven't gotten any inspiration to play with my toys since I made that sheathe of yours. It's especially difficult when someone keeps distracting you." Kid gave her a glare and Rosalie narrowed her eyes at him.
"Oh, I apologize if I've been being such a bother! I didn't ask you to carry me all the way to bed or drag me out of my room when you want to eat. You'll have more than enough time on your hands when I'm gone. In fact, I bet you'll even miss me," Rosalie pointed at him.
"I will."
Rosalie was taken back by his words, her eyes widening. He wasn't joking or teasing or pulling her leg. His voice was earnest and she could see a wave of sadness swirl within his eyes. She felt her heart give a painful squeeze.
"Idiot. You're not making this easy, you know? I'm going to miss you too," she mumbled out the last part and Kid scoffed. She gave him a disapproving look but his playful stare quickly made her smirk back at him.
"Of course, you will. Now, let's go. Everyone's waiting for you. If we don't go now, they'll never go back to doing their jobs," Kid stated as he closed the door to her room and then walked with her through the halls.
"Oh really? What jobs might that be? Lazing around and drinking all day long?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow and Kid chuckled. She knew his crew too well despite him hoping that she didn't since she was leaving quite a hole in the crew.
"I guess I'll have to come up with a strategy to get their lazy asses in tune. I wouldn't want you to go blabbing out all our secrets to your little crew," Kid stated. Rosalie rolled her eyes as a mischievous smile played on her lips.
"Yes, I'm sure that Law would be so interested to know that your crew isn't ashamed in partying around," Rosalie said and snickered. "Either way, I won't tell a soul. My lips are sealed. What happened with the Kid pirates, stays with the Kid pirates," she vowed and Kid grunted.
"Good." Rosalie stared at him, expecting him to say the same but he kept quiet just to irritate her. Of course, he wasn't going to tell anyone about her heritage, killing spree or anything else he found out about her. She was too important to him to let any of that information slip.
"Oh, before I forget. Here." Rosalie handed Kid a small envelope that was addressed to him. "I didn't know if I'd get to personally hand this to you. Feel free to read it. It's a little something from me to you." Rosalie winked and Kid rolled his eyes.
"You know, Sweetheart, you can just-"
"Rose! It's about damn time you got here!" Kid was cut off and, in a flash, Rosalie was surrounded by Virus, Poison, Wire, Heat and some of the other men. He hadn't even noticed they already arrived at the docks.
It was too soon…
"Hey, guys! I'm so glad you're all here! Now, my heart can rest and be at ease. I wanted to say goodbye and thank you to personally since you've always been there from the start. You really are the best to stick with me until now. Thank you for always supporting me," Rosalie thanked them.
"Aw, we love ya too, Rose!" Virus pulled her into a tight hug. "Imma neva forget you and don't be a stranger. If I see you again, I'll definitely come and say 'Hi'. Remember, get enough sleep and keep yourself healthy." Virus broke the hug and Rosalie chuckled.
"Oi, don't hog her all to yourself!" Poison scolded at the male and gave Rosalie a pat on her back, a bit stronger than she expected. "Keep cooking and singing all the way! I'm going to miss my cooking partner but I know that you'll make it big out there!"
"Good luck on your journey, Rosalie. Keep safe and be sure to be on the lookout for any trouble," Heat said and then looked at Wire who averted his eyes to the sky. He coughed hard when he was elbowed in the side and blushed while still looking away.
"Be…safe…"
Rosalie's eyes briefly widened and she gave him a warm smile. In the end, even they didn't have a query with each other anymore. Killer went to stand next to Kid, his first mate sensing the tension of his Captain.
"Rosalie, make sure to keep out for trouble, even if it's difficult for you. Don't forget that no matter the circumstance, there is always a way out and people who stand behind you," Killer said and Rosalie bit her bottom lip before she crushed the male in a hug, surprising everyone.
Killer stood shocked, not sure what exactly to do with his stiff arms. He took a shaky breath and relaxed as he hugged her back. What a softy he had become in the short time she travelled with them. Who would've thought he would have such a soft spot for her?
Kid cleared his throat and snapped the two out of their embrace. Rosalie blushed slightly and tried to shake off her embarrassment. Killer huddled up the men, seeing as Kid wanted to be alone with Rosalie and pulled Wire by his collar when he didn't want to leave.
"Give them some time alone, would you? We'll get to see her sooner than you think," Virus pointed out, knowing that they would see her in a little while. After all, you had to expect the unexpected and that was definitely what Rosalie was good in. The unexpected.
"Goggles."
"Sweetheart."
They expected there to be tension between them, but it was a calming atmosphere. They could feel the breeze pass by them, their eyes never leaving each other's gazes. It was intense and yet, the warmth was comforting.
"You better not die, Sweetheart. I don't want to go and drag your sorry ass back to life. Also, don't forget that I still don't approve of you leaving. The day I beat Trafalgar, you're joining my crew and that's the end of it," Kid said and Rosalie laughed.
"I'll try to remember that. You be safe too, please. Don't do anything reckless," she told him, not finding all the words of the things she wanted to tell him. She could only ask and hope for the best. Hopefully, she'll see him again soon.
"Captain, we need to go before the weather strikes up," Ryusei interrupted and received an immediate glare from Kidd. Rosalie nodded and looked back at Kidd, giving him the last of her small warm smiles, her blue eyes sharing the emotion.
"I'll see you later, Goggles."
"See you later, Sweetheart."
Kid watched as Rosalie walked away, her red hair rising and falling as the wind toyed with the strands. She was leaving. He felt so empty. He wanted to tell her so badly and, in the end, she couldn't even do something as simple as that.
"Goggles!" Kid grunted as he was suddenly embraced, red strands coming into his line of vision once again. He looked at Rosalie with confused eyes and saw her smile at him. "Thank you for everything, Brother."
He felt his heart sink into his stomach and pulled her tightly against his chest as he hugged her, his eyes hidden behind a shadow that fell over them. If he had the power, he would've saved this moment and made it last forever.
"You're welcome, Sister."
Rosalie bit her bottom lip and broke the embrace. She then ran off towards the ship, the heat of Kid's body not leaving her just yet. Kid watched as she retreated and took in a shaky breath as he watched her jump on the boat.
"May our dangerous blood meet again. Maybe then, I'll be able to tell you that you really are my sister. Maybe then, I can be a true Brother," Kid said and turned around, pocketing his hands and stopped when he felt a familiar envelope.
Oh, that's right. She wrote him a letter. He opened it and found two papers inside. The one was a small rectangular paper with the word 'Sweetheart' written on it. It was Rosalie's Vivre Card. His brows furrowed and he opened the letter.
Dear Goggles.
If you're reading this then I guess I'm on my way to go find my crazy Captain. Thank you for everything up until now. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably be insane or dead by now. You have my eternal gratitude and respect.
I left a little something of me with you. Blake had an extra piece and I wanted you to have it. I know you're a prideful man but if you ever need my help, I'll try to be there. Don't be too arrogant to ask for my help.
I don't need a premonition to know that our paths will cross again and by then, I hope that you'll be well on your way to become the Pirate King. I won't back down though. Next time we fight, we'll settle it for sure.
Keep safe.
With Love
Your Sister
Kid's chuckle escaped his lips and soon burst into a wave of extreme laughter. He turned back, Rosalie's ship fading from his view and smirked. He'll be sure to settle that score next time and find out what the sneaky Red Menace knew.
After all, she was an unpredictable person.
