Chapter 33
"You lose! Ha! In your face!" Blake threw his cards down while laughing maniacally at his dark-haired partner. He finally won at the game of cards and felt more than accomplished with his feat. He was the winner, the amazing winner.
Ryusei gave him a blank look, not intimidated by the male's exclamation at all. He let out a sigh and shook his head in disapproval. He didn't know what to do with his partner but decided to give him this brief victory.
"Whatever you say, Blake," Ryusei said as he stood up, putting his cards face up to reveal the monstrous defeat he had. Blake's face immediately fell as he yelled in disbelief. He stared at the cards, rubbing his eyes to make sure what he saw.
"T-That's impossible!"
Ryusei chuckled as he exited the cabin, Blake's voice traveling further than the kitchen he sat in. Rosalie, who was busy with her watch duties glanced back with a curious expression. As soon as she saw Ryusei's smirk, she knew what was going on.
"How far did he lose this time?" Rosalie asked as Ryusei went to stand next to her at the front of the ship. The sky had a few white puffs of clouds above them and despite the sun shining high above them, the temperature was low.
"Devastatingly far. He was freaking out about winning before I revealed my cards. He's probably sulking in the kitchen now," Ryusei replied and Rosalie laughed. The poor guy. They had been at their little card game for a while and he just couldn't seem to win.
"That's a shame. It seems like lucky people as us never lose in gambling, huh. Ryusei?" She nudged him and he grunted in reply. She briefly wondered what would happen if they played together. Who would step out victorious?
Rosalie shivered, another drastic drop in temperature coming to their attention. Ryusei was about to ask her if she was alright before his eyes caught sight of an island coming into view. He rushed to grab the binoculars at the crow's nest and looked through them.
"Blake! You might want to come and see this!" Ryusei called the moping male inside the ship, Rosalie's eyes widening as the island came into a closer view. He heard grumbling come from the blonde male as he exited onto the deck.
"What?! Do you want to rub salt in my wounds?! I lost alright! I can't beat you at anything! There! Are you satisfied?" Blake snapped at the dark-haired male but after not receiving a single reply, he followed their gaze.
Coming into view was a large island, snow falling only on a portion of the land. The other portion they saw had all the colors of autumn, the orange and brown color catching their eyes. It was a peculiar, yet familiar island.
"Wow, I never thought I'd be back here again! Man, I loved this island!" Blake exclaimed while whistling in excitement. Ryusei joined his side and nodded. It was one of the islands they traveled by first when they entered the New World.
"You've been here before? What type of island is it?"
"Eh? You haven't been here? You've missed out, Rosalie-san. This island is called Four Seasons. It's a very unique and popular island in the New World. This island is divided into four quatrains. Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring," Blake replied.
"They say that each part was once an island. After a lot of natural disasters, they all joined together to form one big island. They're very luxurious islands and most of all, there are a lot of outlaws there despite the Navy patrolling," Ryusei added and Rosalie looked back at the island.
"Is that so? Then how about you two show me around?" Rosalie watched in amusement as their faces lit up. "While we're at it, we can get some groceries and any other errands we might need," Rosalie stated and they both nodded.
They couldn't wait.
On Four Seasons Island…
The shop was docked at the Autumn side of the island, the trio making sure that it was safe before they prepared for going on a journey on the island. Blake made a list of errands they needed to run as Ryusei finished locking up the ship.
Rosalie put her hair up in a ponytail and then hid the tail inside the hat she wore. She made sure to wear a pair of sunglasses and clipped the sheathed dagger by her side. Her other side seemed empty without her sea prism sword since she lost it in the whole kidnapping situation.
However, she knew that it was time she didn't rely on her weapons. She had to grow in her own strength and her haki was the best to use against devil fruit users. After all, she said it before, devil fruit users were useless against her.
"Captain, we're ready to go!" Ryusei called as they waited outside on the deck. Rosalie exited her room and then the cabin. She closed the door behind her and then blinked in surprise when she saw the two men before her.
Ryusei was wearing glasses with a long black hair wig while Blake had a red hair wig with a beard plastered on his facial features. Rosalie sweat dropped at what she saw and sighed. How come they did so much when going in disguise?
"You know… Never mind. Let's get going."
They entered the harbour, a bunch of shipwright shops and food stalls next to the road that led to the town. The trio travelled on with their identities hidden all too well. Rosalie made sure not to speak to anyone and avoided possible Navy encounters.
"Neh, you two. Do you have bounties on your heads?" Rosalie asked without glancing back at the duo that followed her. Blake and Ryusei glanced at each other and then looked back at Rosalie. The story being a bit more complicated.
"No, not like you, Rose-Captain." Blake quickly corrected himself. "Since we're thought to be dead, we kept our appearance top secret. That and…we might've gotten into a lot of trouble over the years." Rosalie glanced back with a disapproving look.
"W-Wait! I-It's not like we went into the human trafficking… It's just we…well…" Blake couldn't quite find the words to tell the female and the longer he stalled, the more intense her glare got. Ryusei rolled his eyes at his partner and crossed his arms over his chest.
"We became bounty hunters a few years back." Rosalie stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes hidden beneath her sunglasses. "It was the best way that we could make money and it was the easiest way to track you down," Ryusei stated and Blake sighed.
"Yeah, and one of the islands we were really, and I mean really popular on, is this one. We don't have bounties but the outlaws know our faces. Since we don't want to make trouble for you, we decided to put on our disguises. Besides, we're done with that lifestyle," Blake said and Rosalie raised an eyebrow.
"Let me get this straight. You two became bounty hunters in order to find me and make a living. How did you manage to get the money if you had to go to the Navy to get the reward? They would've recognized you," Rosalie asked, her mind trying to figure out their methods.
"Easy, we always had someone to get the bounty for us. It was always a reliable source since we…threatened them if they didn't comply." Ah, there it was. Rosalie burst out laughing, shaking her head.
"Would you look at that? You actually got a bit of me there," she stated while pointing at their chests and both men blushed. Rosalie then turned around and continued to walk, the two men still following her.
"Oh, and by the way." Rosalie took off her sunglasses and winked behind her. "I don't mind a bit of trouble at all. I'm proud my boys became a pair of strong bounty hunters," she said, shocking them as she put on her glasses again.
Who would've thought? All her teachings about justice stuck with the pair walking behind her. She was glad. In a way, she still believed justice was needed but she was torn between what her heart thought was right and what her head thought was right.
After all, justice wasn't as black and white as she had once thought it to be. She experienced it once again when she was with Kid. She immediately stepped in when she saw the marine soldier attacked the innocent townsfolk.
Yet, it wasn't her place to do that. If she stepped in whenever she saw fit it would make her no better than a criminal that did whatever they wanted. Then again, that was what she was seen as so what did it matter?
Rosalie shook her head at her conflicting thoughts. She needed to keep sight on what was right and what was wrong. It was the only way she was going to keep her sanity and her morals. Otherwise, she would fall apart.
"It looks like we came at a bad time."
Rosalie followed their line of sight and felt her entire body run cold. Not too far off in front of them was a large building that had a large emblem painted on both sides of the entrance. The building seemed to be active, people moving in and out.
"Damn, I thought that they shut down the whole human auctioning thing but it looks like those bastards are still getting what they want," Blake spat out and Rosalie swallowed thickly as she tried to tear her gaze away.
Why? Why were there a Human Auction House in this island? Why did she find one wherever she went? She could feel a cold chill ripple through her body and she clenched her fists. It brought back memories she definitely did not want to remember.
"Blake, Ryusei, let's go," Rosalie harshly whispered and then took off, the two men in a daze of confusion. She could hear them faintly calling for her but she cut everything out. She had to calm herself down, after all, she made peace with what happened.
Then why did she feel so unsettled? Could it be because she felt uneasy about Doflamingo or was it just because she hadn't really made peace with what happened? Either way, she didn't want to be near this place.
"Hey! Stop rushing! Rosalie-!" Blake let her name slip past his lips and he immediately cursed when he saw a bunch of people notice. However, he didn't see the shadow that followed them, slipping away from the crowd.
The shadowing figure pulled out a Den Den Mushi, a smirk plastered on his features. "Young Master, we found her. She's on Four Season Island," he told the stylish pinkish Den Den Mushi and crazed chuckling came from the other side.
"Perfect! Since I'm in the neighbourhood…I'll drop by. Fufufufu~"
"I'm so sorry! I-It just slipped…b-but I believe they bought my mistake! Moreover, there are a lot of people called Rosalie!" Blake pointed out, trying to cover up the fact that he might've caused more harm than intended.
"It would've been fine if you didn't try to cover it up. If you had just went along with it, they wouldn't have thought that it was strange," Ryusei countered back and Blake paled. He didn't think of it on that way.
"Captain, you need to walk slower. Otherwise it would look too obvious since this idiot let your name slip," Ryusei told the female and Rosalie slowed down a bit, letting out a breath when they were out of reach from the Auction house.
"Yeah… I'm sorry I went off back there. I feel uncomfortable being close to the Human Auction House," Rosalie said and looked at Blake who had guilt plastered all over his face. She put a hand on his shoulder and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, things like these happen. We'll just hang low for a while until this blows over. How about you two go get some of the groceries and I'll blend in while you're busy. What do you say?" She suggested.
"Captain, I don't think-!" Rosalie's glare quickly shut him up and he nodded. He took his partner without any other word and walked off. Rosalie made sure to keep watching them until they turned into the next street and then let out a sigh.
She needed a bit alone time to clear her head and maybe find something better to disguise herself without giving away her identity. She could always get a wig and then go on freely from there before she met up with them.
Rosalie crossed her arms over her chest and started to walk down the quiet street. There were a few shops on either side of the brick road but there were mostly inns and hotels that caught her eyes. Nothing she was looking for.
"And I thought this place was interesting," she murmured underneath her breath and briefly closed her eyes. The moment she opened them, a pink feather came into her sights and a figure walked past her, everything seeming to slow down.
Rosalie's eyes widened at the pink feather and she felt her body tense up, a threatening atmosphere suddenly surrounding her. She found that she couldn't move her head to even look at the person passing next to her.
Unfortunately, her observation haki made the presence painfully obvious and her entire body screamed in instinct at her. As soon as she passed him, she stopped in her tracks. She merely watched as the pink feather in front of her finally fell onto the ground.
"Fufufu, found you~!"
