Chapter 34
No. It couldn't be.
Rosalie's mind was in a whirl and her body was frozen as a cold shiver ran down her spine. What was the chances that she would meet him here? This had to be a coincidence. Then again…he did hunt her down. It was only a matter of time before he found her.
She did not expect Doflamingo Donquixote to be on this island. Moreover, she didn't expect him to find her. She was in a pinch. A very tight pinch. Luckily, she sent those other two off and all she had to do was get them and escape.
Rosalie, finding the strength once again, decided to take slow steps as she walked on. She silently hoped that she could walk away without anything happening. However, the danger and her observation haki told her otherwise.
Rosalie spun forward to dodge an attack from the male behind her. She managed to land on her feet, her blue eyes glaring back at the pink feathered male. Her hat was cut in half along with her glasses and glided down her face.
"Fufufu, today is my lucky day." Doflamingo laughed, his grin widening as he looked at her. He pocketed his hands, his eyes hidden beneath a pair of red shades. "We finally meet, Red Menace," he said as Rosalie stood up.
She frowned, her brows furrowing as she glared at the male. There was no escaping him now. The people in the streets were all running and exclaiming at the sudden attack. It wasn't going to be long until the Navy arrived.
"What? Don't you have anything to say to me? And after all this time I was looking forward to finally meet you," Doflamingo stated, Rosalie keeping her expression unwavering. He was playing around and she didn't like it.
"You could've waited. I'm sure that we would've met eventually," Rosalie replied. They would've met on Dressrosa where she was going to get her Captain back. She knew by then she'd be prepared to face him and his crew.
"I'm not a very patient man. Not to mention it would be rude to deny that little invitation you sent me." Rosalie's brow twitched. "I'm sure that little business of mine brought back a few lovely memories," Doflamingo mocked.
Rosalie smirked and relaxed her tensed body somewhat. "Not really, but it did remind me how you lost. It puts a bit salt in the wound, doesn't it?" She countered and Doflamingo burst out laughing, the sound falling empty on her ears.
"You've got a sharp tongue, Red Menace. How long will you be able to keep it up? I'm not letting you go. This is one game that I won't be losing," Doflamingo stated darkly as he moved his fingers, his devil's fruit activating.
Rosalie took in a deep breath, a challenging gleam passing through her eyes. "I'd like to see you try," Rosalie said and then vanished from her spot as Doflamingo lashed out his powers towards her. She appeared on a rooftop and then started to run, the male quickly taking the skies after her.
I have no idea what kind of devil's fruit he has. Not to mention, if I can't figure it out, I can't take advantage of possible weaknesses. If only I can remember. I swear I read the files of the Warlords once…
"Bullet String!" Doflamingo exclaimed as he pointed his index finger at Rosalie and fired his powers towards her. Rosalie closed her eyes and cut out everything around her as she used her observation haki.
"Speed Armament!" Rosalie shouted, her body becoming unseen at her quick movement. She managed to dodge his attacks once again and then went on the offensive. She appeared in front of him, pulling back her punch.
Doflamingo, surprised at her sudden speed, suffered damage when she landed a solid hit on his cheek. He was sent flying into the air from her armament punch. He managed to stop himself and turned to look back at her.
"So, it's true." Doflamingo wiped the blood running from his nose. "Your amount of haki is inhuman and your usage of it is further developed than anyone known. As expected of the daughter of Redhead Shanks," he said and Rosalie scoffed.
"I can say the same to you. Your strange, unknown devil's fruit does resemble something that I read about you once. You're the user of the Ito Ito no Mi. As expected from a manipulative Warlord like you," Rosalie stated and Doflamingo chuckled.
"Then you shouldn't have any problems fighting!" He charged directly at her, his left arm being pulled back as his strings attached on his fingertips. "Pentachromatic Strings!" Rosalie activated her armament haki just in time to block the onslaught.
However, he then followed with a kick, the string attached to his heel barely missing her face. The buildings behind her, sliced in half from the attack. Rosalie cursed and activated her light armament as she jumped into the sky.
"He cut those buildings like they were paper." Rosalie murmured as she looked at the damage. He had a monstrous and frightening power. She had to get him with her ultimate techniques or she wasn't going to make it out alive.
"Teleport!" Rosalie vanished as he appeared in front of her and then appeared behind him, her wrists clasped together. "Shockwave!" She released the built-up pressure and sent him crashing into the ground below.
She landed a few meters away from the crashing site and her breathing a bit heavy. She used two powerful techniques after each other but it was worth it. He had to sustain damage after that. Especially since she caught him off guard.
"Fufufu, you're full of tricks, aren't you?" Doflamingo stood up, the smoke taking its time to clear. "I can see that you've been surrounding yourself with Law. He always had something up his sleeve," he said as he lifted his hand.
Rosalie gasped in pain when he shot his bullet string in her shoulders and legs. She fell onto her knees, gritting her teeth. He walked out of the smoke, barely a few scratches on him and his grin still large as can be.
No way. No injury?! T-That's impossible! Rosalie could feel a trail of sweat cascade down the side of her face and forced herself onto her feet. Stay calm. You can do this. You have to create an opportunity to get away.
"You're probably scheming to get away right now." Rosalie's eyes widened when he brought his hand down, his strings following. She moved to the side, only to receive a devastating blow with his kick. Her half-formed armament covered arm not enough to block the blow.
She crashed hard into the building and coughed up blood. It hurt. A lot. He was not pulling his punches at all and if she didn't do something quick, she was going to suffer a lot more pain. She had to take him on head to head, figure out his weakness, use it against him and get away.
"Full hardening!" She charged at him, her punch blocked by his armament covered feathered jacket. However, she was relentless and cried out as she continued to push him back. Doflamingo chuckled and grabbed her oncoming fist only to received a kick with both her legs in his stomach.
"I've always been full of tricks even before I met Law, but one can never learn enough." Rosalie released her full hardening and cracked her knuckles. "Especially since I'm up against someone like you," She added and the male snickered.
"You're right about that, but who do you think taught Law all his tricks?" Doflamingo asked as he suddenly shot his hand forward. Rosalie's eyes widened when her body stopped obeying her and gritted her teeth as she tried to get rid of his manipulation.
"Parasite Strings."
She could feel the prickling of her skin as her limbs moved against her. She grinded her teeth against each other as she tried to resist as much as possible. She glared back at the male; his words still fresh in her thoughts.
"What are you insinuating? That you taught Law all his tricks? That's taking a lot of credit. Aren't you getting a bit full of yourself?" Rosalie spat at him, despite knowing the predicament she was in. She had to get out of his grasp.
"For someone who I believe doesn't know anything, you aren't in the least bit bothered by my statements. Did little Law actually talk about his wonderful time 13 years ago?" Doflamingo asked and Rosalie felt sudden anger boil in her system.
"Wonderful…?" She could feel her haki surging through her system and her body started to blacken from the armament as it flowed over her skin. "You monster…" She bit hard on her teeth and then let out a cry as she broke through his strings, catching him by surprise.
"You're the reason that he's in despair!" She punched him hard with her full force, followed by another punch in his gut and a final attack that send him crashing into a building. Rosalie breathed heavy, her anger coursing through her veins and her red hair falling down her back.
"He never mentioned you. Not once did he say your name, but he did tell me that there was one person who he hated the most in this world. You just seemed to fit that description perfectly!" She snarled at him.
Law had been through so much because of this man's tyranny. He had so much pain, anger and grief that she couldn't even start to imagine how he felt. Not to mention, how Corazon felt. His own brother, killing him in cold blood.
There was no going back now or escaping. This bastard was going to pay for what he did to Law. He was going to pay dearly, even with the odds stacked painfully against her. She didn't care. She would force her body beyond its limit if she needed to.
"Is that so? Then I guess he'll hate me more as soon as I take you out," Doflamingo said as he stepped out of the rubble, a bit sorer from this attack than her previous ones. She seemed to become stronger and more reckless with her haki as her anger grew, making his grin widen.
Rosalie chuckled, a dark gleam passing through her eyes. "That's where you're wrong. I won't cause Law to ever feel that way again. After all, I'm not scared to get rid of scum like you. Not like your brother was." Doflamingo's face fell completely at her words and veins popped out of his forehead.
"Hey, hey, hey, for someone who doesn't know anything you're quite informed," Doflamingo said, his anger flaring wildly at the mention of the deceased male. How the hell did she know about it? If Law never told her, how? What more did she know?
She was getting underneath his skin and he couldn't have that. She was a Marine before all of this. Then, could she have possibly sniffed around too much? Either way, it left a bad taste in his mouth. She was a threat.
"I'll have to silence that arrogant mouth of yours."
Rosalie watched as he attacked, his speed much faster than earlier. However, she managed to anticipate his attacks and engaged in a fist fight. She was at an advantage with her haki usage but she wasn't sure that it would be enough or for how long she would be able to last.
Rosalie took a strong hit and was sent staggering backwards, her arms aching at the force he used. Her haki usage was putting a large strain on her body, yet she couldn't go without it. She had to push through.
She was lucky that this area of town was abandoned and that the other two were busy with grocery shopping. There would be too many complications and casualties. Moreover, Doflamingo didn't look like the type to spare civilians' lives.
"Rosalie-san!"
"Captain!"
Rosalie felt her blood run cold and panic rocketed throughout her entire body. That couldn't be. There was no way that they would come here now, in the middle of her fight! She spun around as the two males ran towards her.
No! Get away! Don't come here! She wanted to yell towards them but felt Doflamingo move behind her. She heard his sickening chuckle as his eyes fell onto Blake and Ryusei. Her eyes widened and for a moment, she froze. They were in danger.
"Overheat!" Doflamingo pulled his hand back and this time aimed his attack towards Blake and Ryusei. He chuckled as he released the heated string towards them. Their eyes widened and found themselves fear stricken on the spot.
"TELEPORT!"
Rosalie yelled as she appeared in front of them, the whip-like attack burning her on impact. She cried as the excruciating burning heat caused much pain through her haki and she fell to her knees. Her arms and upper body were burnt badly… At least Blake and Ryusei were unharmed.
"Rosalie-san! Are you alright-! Oh no, you're hurt badly. We have to get you to a medic as soon as possible," Blake stated as they looked at her bleeding, burnt wounds. Ryusei growled and glared at Doflamingo, the Warlord completely unfazed.
"Oh, it looks like I made the trash angry. If you don't mind, move aside. This is something between me and Red Menace," Doflamingo snapped, his temper still flaring. He was irritated by the increase in people who kept getting in his way.
"You're going to pay for this! How dare you hurt Rosalie-san! I don't care if you're a Warlord or not, you're going down!" Blake yelled at him, ripping his wig off, Ryusei joining his side. Rosalie grabbed Blake's hand and briefly hissed in pain at the sudden movement.
"Don't-!" Damn, why did it hurt so much? "This is between him and me. You two go back to the ship. I'll meet you there as soon as I'm done here." Rosalie managed to stand, her blue eyes glaring at Doflamingo's sunglasses.
"When you're done here? You say that and yet you haven't fatally landed an attack on me," Doflamingo pointed out while chuckling. Rosalie breathed heavy and activated her full hardening once again, ignoring the screaming of her wounds.
She had to push through this despite her aching body. If she didn't have the strength to face him now, how was she going to face him later on? Rosalie's haki flared around her, a pair of blue eyes narrowing at the male.
"Not yet. Don't get cocky, Doflamingo. I'm still standing and you haven't won just yet." Rosalie smirked and let out a dry chuckle. "So, when I'm done here. I'll go back to my ship," she stated and Doflamingo's brow twitched.
"You arrogant brat. Let's see how long you can keep barking." Doflamingo charged at her as his words were spoken and Rosalie pushed the two males away from her. She brought her hands together and gritted her teeth.
"Ultimate Shockwave!" Rosalie's air pressure managed to stop Doflamingo and he blocked against the strong force. "Teleport!" She vanished, appearing behind him and kicked him in his side. The sustained blow blocked by his armament haki.
He spun around and brought his hands down and cut Rosalie with his strings. Rosalie gasped in pain and coughed up blood when he punched her in her stomach, sending her crashing through brick walls. Rosalie could feel her body falling into exhaustion, unable to obey her to stand up from the rubble.
Move! You have to move!
"What was that you said earlier? You aren't scared to get rid of scum like me, not like my pathetic brother was?" Doflamingo sat on top of her and grabbed her throat. His free hand manipulating his strings as he choked her.
"Too bad that you aren't scared of me otherwise this might've ended painless for you." Rosalie opened one of her eyes to glare at him. "I've got two options about what to do with you. I could kill you right here or I can take you along to suffer, find out what you know and kill you later. Either way, you'll die."
Rosalie managed to lift her arm and grabbed his wrist, coughing blood. A smirk managed to form onto her lips and her blue eyes gleamed brightly. She knew that her unwavering attitude pissed him off and despite being at his mercy, she couldn't care less.
"Go ahead. I'll just come back from the dead to kick your ass," she spat at him, her grip tightening and his brows twitching. "I won't let you ever hurt Law again even if it costs me my life. This little game of yours ends with me," Rosalie's oxygen was cut off drastically but she continued.
"You'll never win, Doflamingo."
Doflamingo's grin turned into a sneer and he brought his hand down, death suddenly a reality to Rosalie. She could feel her heart racing in her chest and cold fear gripped her entire body. She was going to die here.
What use was she? She didn't finish him off nor did she have an advantage. How could she save Law when she didn't even have the strength to stop him from killing her? She always had a big mouth but she could never back herself. Pathetic.
Kid would be so disappointed in her. She thought that she was back in shape and her haki control was as great as ever. She honestly thought she stood a chance. Rosalie gritted her teeth as she waited for him to finish her off but then nothing happened.
Instead, Doflamingo's body started to vibrate drastically, his grip on her throat loosening. Rosalie's eyes widened as she coughed, her air supply not cut off anymore. Doflamingo growled dangerously as he tried to move but the sensation increased.
"Go to hell!"
She felt someone grab her before an explosion erupted. Ryusei gently put her down next to him as Blake jumped back through the smoke. When did they manage to get that close? Weren't they supposed to go back to the ship?
"What are you-?""There's no way we're leaving you behind, Captain. We're leaving together and besides, no one can withstand that explosion when it's from the inside out," Ryusei stated and Blake nodded as he walked towards them.
"We need to get you patched up as soon as possible." Blake bent down as he looked at her deep wounds. He was about to touch her when he and Rosalie suddenly shook violently, Ryusei's eyes widening.
"R-Ryusei… W-What are you doing?"
"I can't move my body! I-It isn't me!" Ryusei tried to explain and tried to stop himself, his body not listening to his commands. A chuckle reached their ears and they glanced towards the area where the explosion erupted.
"Why must there always be brats getting in my way?" Doflamingo's voice made the trio pale as he walked out, bruises on his skin. He had his left hand stretched out and veins throbbing painfully out of his temple.
"N-No!" Rosalie rasped out and let out a choking sound when the vibrations increased, Ryusei's body being manipulated. Blake tried to move, but found that he couldn't move his body either, horror washing over him.
"Let me teach you what happens to those who gets in my way," Doflamingo stated and his grin widened as a deep chuckle escaped his throat. Rosalie's eyes widened as he lifted up his hand, Blake clenching his eyes shut.
Before an explosion erupted.
