Hey guys! Chapter two brings the introductions to Miles and the Prowler, as well as the first reunion of Miles and Gwen! Most of these first chapters are going to focus on introducing all of the many different characters, and getting them all to the places I need them to be. I don't own any of the characters.

"I'm Miles Morales. But you? You can call me the Prowler."

"If I don't get home, our dad is going to die."

"Your dad."

"Please. You have to let me go."

"Why would I do that?"

The Prowler rests his glove next to Miles' head. Miles struggled to steady his breath; everything was happening so fast. Only a few hours ago he was celebrating his dad's promotion. Now he needed to get back, nothing could stand in his way. Miguel had tried and failed, Gwen had tried and failed. He refused to be stopped by the Prowler.

"You have no reason to keep me," Miles argued while he tried to twist his hands. He felt the cool metal of the chains brush against his fingertips.

"I have no reason to release you," Prowler replied, "I want to know where you came from."

"I came from another universe, I was bit by a spider that gave me powers, it's a long story, but a machine sent me here by mistake. I'm trying to get home. Pleaseâ"I need to save my dad!" Miles felt the electricity start to leave his finger, and the chain started to heat up.

"Another universe," Prowler turned to Aaron, "It's true." Aaron nodded.

"Please, you need to let me go," Miles stalled while the chains continued to grow hotter. It was almost there. The chains were growing weaker. The Prowler turned back to Miles and lashed out with his gauntlet. "NO!" Miles yelled but grew quiet when he realized the chains had fallen. Prowler had cut him free. "Thank you," Miles said breathlessly.

"Your father is still alive," Prowler said, offering Miles a hand. "I don't yet know how to get you home, but I will help you if you agree to help free my home."

"Free your home?" Miles asked as Prowler pulled him to his feet.

"New York City is under the control of the sinister-six cartels," Aaron said and Prowler nodded.

"Electro, Vulture, Sandman, Rhino, Scorpion, and Doctor Octavius," Prowler listed, "They control everything in the city, and the people don't have any defense.

"Except us," Aaron said.

"Even without Spider-Man, you still try to help," Miles couldn't help but be impressed by his Prowler duplicate. He remembered all too well the feeling of not being able to help, but Prowler had found a way to on his own.

"Listen, there is something you should know," Miles began. "I am sort of a fugitive from a whole secret society of spider-powered lunatics."

"Spider-powered lunatics?" Aaron repeated.

"Yes, they're led by a crazy guy named Miguel, and they are trying to stop me from saving my dad. It's more complicated than that, but that's what's important."

"Ok, so you have spider-powers, and you're trying to get home to save your dad from other spider-powered lunatics that are hunting you down?" Prowler said completely stoically.

"Pretty much yes."

"So how do we get you home?" Aaron asked. "How did you get here?"

"Well, it was this big machine that was supposed to send me home, but it sent me here instead," Miles explained. "But usually, they use these watches to travel between universes."

"A watch," Prowler said.

"Yes, a watch," Miles said, "Look I know it's crazy, but you have to believe me."

"I believe you," Prowler said glancing up behind Miles, his mask closing in over his face once more. "Looks like your lunatics found us." Miles spun around, expecting to see Miguel come crashing through the window, claws out. Instead, he watched the lithe form he knew to be Gwen land gracefully outside the open window. Not that long ago, he would have felt incredibly excited and happy to see her. Now he just felt angry. And sad. Why was he sad?

"Miles!" Gwen called, "I am so glad I found you." She dropped to the floor.

"I'm sure you are," Miles said coldly. Prowler moved around in a circle, with Gwen in the center. His eyes locked on the watch around her wrist. Gwen eyed the two figures in the room. One was Miles' uncle Aaron, that much was obvious, but the other was the one who wore the Prowler gauntlet. She became acutely aware of how he was edging behind her. She suddenly felt like she was being hunted.

"Miles listen, the others are here, we are trying to help you! I'm sorry for what happened, but we can fix it," she pleaded, trying and struggling to choose the right words.

"You knew the whole time," Miles replied, "I told you, goodbye Gwen." Taking the cue from Miles, Prowler leaped forward. Gwen's spider sense went off, but as she moved to avoid the Prowler, Miles webbed her arm. The Prowler collided with Gwen, and both rolled across the ground. Miles didn't know if it was Prowler or Gwen who did it, but a portal opened behind him. He had just enough time to think it looked different from the portals he had seen before when Prowler's momentum slammed into him. Both went flying backward through the portal.

"NO! Miles!" Gwen yelled as the two went hurling backward, "I talked to your parents!" but the boys were already gone. Gwen knelt on the floor holding back tears. She had been so close. He was right here. Now he was gone again. Now she had no idea where he was. She pulled off her mask, and tears hit the ground around her.

Aaron Davis of earth-42 dropped two stairs at a time. The metal grate steps made a clunk every time his boots hit. He hadn't stayed around once his nephew had dove head first through a multi-dimensional portal. He trusted his nephew. He would be back. And if that other Miles was anything like his, then he would stop at nothing to protect the people he loved. They would both be back, but there was no telling when. Aaron smoothed his stride when he reached the bottom floor. That girl, Gwen, had said the others were here. If these spider people were as crazy as Miles had said, then there was a storm coming. He had to make sure the world didn't fall apart before his nephew returned. But first, he needed a story for Rio.

Note: That's chapter two! I know a lot of people want Miles and Prowler to be enemies, but I think they could have a really cool dynamic as allies. Next chapter we get to see a bit more of Gwen and her emotional state. It can't be easy to fail after trying to redeem herself.
