Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 6
In the following year, the Cullens would obtain many opportunities to prove themselves to their new community.
Each and every single one of them used skills that suited positions they now found themselves engrossed in and what best suited their personalities in order to earn trust.
For instance, Carlisle's natural talents lay in the medical field. So, while there's not exactly a hospital, Carlisle offers his services to the tribes' healers as best he possibly can.
Esme would end up routinely dividing her time between assisting Carlisle and joining Maurice in participating in the children's education. Lending what knowledge, she has and to fill in the gaps whenever the ape children have a question that the wise orangutan can't answer on his own.
Turns out Esme isn't the only one to initially choose this direction.
Bella, Rosalie, Alice, and Renesmee followed along with the Cullen matriarch in joining her at the school and helping take care of the children. As expected, Renesmee had no problems with fitting in. As a child herself, Renesmee integrated herself in there quite quickly amongst the little ones quite quickly.
Subsequently, Rosalie, Bella, and Alice are the same way, but in entirely different manners and reasons behind them.
Alice's bubbly and overly positive personality appealed to many of the children and their mothers right away which is unsurprising to many of the Cullen's. Alice simply has that personality that draws people in.
Bella being a mother herself has a very nurturing nature.
For Rosalie, it hit more to home. You see, even when she was human, Rosalie had always wanted to be a mother and have a baby of her own. When Renesmee was born, she had the chance at that, but as an aunt. Because of Renesmee's enhanced growth, she couldn't experience Renesmee as a baby for very long in spite of how enjoyable it all was. So, becoming a caretaker for these little ones during lessons with Maurice is wonderful for her. She can baby, spoil, and cuddle the littlest ones as much as they want her to.
Now the boys found a different purpose.
Edward, Jasper, and Emmett gravitated toward the Gorilla Guard and the hunting parties. Edward's gift especially proved very useful for the tribe. Thanks to his mindreading skills he's able to detect whenever a dangerous predator is getting too close to the village wall boundary and they're able to get to and eliminate it before any serious damage is done. Plus, he can detect when a herd is nearby and a hunting party can be set out to restock their meat supply.
Jasper and Emmett can find themselves relating to the Gorilla Guard more than the others. Jasper for his time fighting in the American Civil War as a soldier in his human life and Emmett…well…Emmett because of his strength, easygoing nature, and rough-and-tumble personality.
Slowly everyone managed to find and fit into their proper place.
While trust is steadily won over time by those who are sensible there are still those in the tribe that have proven resistant to the Cullens residency and continued participation in village life.
Definitely Koba and his friends Grey and Stone along with some others that shared their opinion.
Koba was downright infuriated when Caesar decided to let them stay. And had no qualms about voicing and showing his displeasure either. At the beginning of all this Koba would regularly accuse the Cullens of spying for the humans down below, but, as time went on, and after the Cullens went scavenging and returned with much-needed medical supplies they got from vacant hospitals in the city and smaller neighboring vacant towns that proved unfounded. To this day, Koba still hasn't changed his mind about it although others mulled it over and switched opinions.
Analyzing this minority, it is hard to gauge their reactions and dispositions, but thanks to Edward and Jasper they're keeping an eye on the thoughts and emotions around them although they make a point not to influence against free will in any way. That's one line none of them will cross.
It's a peaceful stalemate that hasn't been disrupted. As long as the peace is kept then there shouldn't be any problems.
At the end of the year mark discord is the last thing on Caesar's mind.
The one thing that is truly weighing on Caesar is his wife's most recent pregnancy. When she'd been carrying Blue Eyes, it was straining, but there wasn't anything concerning about it. It was a hard one, but what birth is? This one is different. Cornelia's been drained a bit more lately and it's been worrisome. The healers and Carlisle have been monitoring her closely at that which should push Caesar's worries aside.
Needless to say, Caesar will be mightily relieved when this current pregnancy for Cornelia is done and with.
Which will be today.
Caesar and a select group of apes had been returning from a smaller-scale hunt when they were met with this revelation.
Anxious hoots caused Caesar to stop speaking to some of his subjects who had approached to look in the direction of his family's dwelling. He recognized Tinker frantically waving him up pointing inside the interior of the tree. Caesar instantly knew one reason Tinker would be acting this way along with wearing a veil over her face.
Cornelia.
Moving with haste Caesar then climbed up to Tinker allowing the female to lead the way.
Esme meets him at the entrance to the nest, wearing a veil over her face like the other females out of respect for their traditions even though she doesn't require it. She does so to be polite.
Placing a reassuring hand on Caesar's shoulder, Esme said "It won't be long now. Cornelia is almost there."
Once inside the assembled midwives and numerous other females surrounding Cornelia cleared a path for him to get to her.
As expected of him, Carlisle is kneeling near Cornelia's head, assisting the healers in doing all they can to soothe Cornelia's pain with herbs. But Esme is correct. They're in the final leg of it now.
It's no surprise that Carlisle is there with the healers. Carlisle had been keeping track of Cornelia's progress in the entire duration of Cornelia's pregnancy and made no secret of his concerns about her health. He would've insisted on attending the live birth. After giving Caesar an update, Esme goes over there to lend comfort and support to Cornelia.
Cornelia was in bad shape appearing extremely tired shaking all over from the strain she was under already whimpering a little, leaving Carlisle's concerns more than justified.
She'd been in labor since early morning not long after the hunters left. After months of waiting Caesar and Cornelia's second child is about to be born. Whether it is a boy or girl they had no clue. All they cared about was that whatever the gender of the baby is it's healthy.
Hands trembling Cornelia reached for Caesar begging him to help ease the pain. At the same time, Cornelia curled into herself as another contraction hit.
Slowly Caesar approached a tender loving expression on his face as he gazed at his wife.
Taking her hand, Caesar knelt beside his wife. Having him there with her perhaps gave Cornelia the boost she needed for that one last-ditch effort.
Cornelia groaned pushing with all her might the feeling of Caesars, Esme's, and the other female's hands on her flesh lending her the strength to fight.
Seconds later Cornelia gasped collapsing onto her back as a tiny squeaking, thrashing baby was pulled from her. Cornelia took the squirming baby into her arms from the many hands that held the child, settling him against her chest. If there was any sort of indication the volume of the baby's cries showed it had a healthy set of lungs. Everything was in its proper place as it should be. The infant was so minuscule it couldn't have weighed more than four pounds.
Awestruck by the newborn Caesar gives the baby his hand. The infant latched its fingers spread holding tight to one of his fathers. He gently cupped the baby's little head in the palm of his hand hooting quietly to the little one to soothe him. The method succeeded in the newborn's cries receding as he snuggled into his mother.
Clapping a congratulatory hand on Caesar's arm, smiling, Carlisle said "Congratulations, Caesar."
Returning the smile, Caesar pats a hand on
Carlisle's arm in thanks.
The snap of a twig on the floor signaled Blue Eyes coming in to see the baby. The ape children from Maurice's class were curious too. They were discovered peeking from outside hanging from sections of the tree. Even Renesmee has joined them, peering inside with curious and sparkling eyes. Blue Eyes stared in wonder at the infant, astonished at the fact that he was now a big brother where just minutes ago he was an only child.
Beckoning to Blue Eyes, Caesar signed"Come meet your new brother."
Accepting the invitation Blue Eyes slowly came over. Each tentative step Blue Eyes took revealed to all how nervous he was, but he joined them nevertheless.
Cornelia currently had one hand wrapped around the baby. When Blue Eyes got close enough she put the other on Blue Eye's head pressing his forehead to hers. Caesar had both hands cocooned around the baby sheltering it in his powerful hands.
All four breathed together in sync with the baby almost forgetting completely anyone else was present with them. The five of them were the only ones who mattered.
That very evening a grand ceremony overran the entire village celebrating the birth. A feast was held for the celebration, one of the largest they'd had in quite a long time.
Sitting on a ledge overlooking the fire pit, where the vast majority of the Colony had gathered, beside the wall where Maurice taught his lessons to the new generation sat the royal family. Caesar was sitting on his throne, Cornelia and Blue Eyes on the right of him. The baby was fast asleep cradled in Cornelia's arms after a thorough checkup from Carlisle. The little boy is proving healthy and strong if not a bit tired. It took a lot of work to be born. He needed to rest.
During the festivities, ape after ape brought tribute to Caesar. The variety of offerings ranged from flowers, pelts, and different varieties of food. Ones that were accepted with appreciation.
The Cullens were enjoying the festivities off to the side, being included in games and conversation with the friends they've made.
Almost toward the end of the feast, Caesar raised a hand to draw attention over to him when the last tribute was made. All became silent and focused on Caesar.
"Apes together strong," boomed Caesar.
Indeed, they are and Caesar couldn't have been more proud leading each and every single one of them.
Hours passed with the celebration reaching its peak. Many were retiring to their huts to sleep though a number remained awake continuing to enjoy what was left of the festivities.
Caesar bid his wife and newborn goodnight choosing to stay a little while longer. Blue Eyes had already gone having decided to turn in early. The day's events had taken their toll. So, Cornelia climbed the steps back into their oak tree assisted by one of her multiple midwives.
Renesmee headed off to sleep while the elder Cullens spread out around the settlement to guard for the evening while everyone else could rest easy.
Caesar had taken a seat on the roots of the tree Maurice sitting beside him, so the two could talk alone.
"Another son,"congratulated Maurice, pleased for his old friend.
Chuckling, Caesar signed"Makes me think how far we've come, Maurice."
Together they looked out at the forest and the human city that lay beyond.
"Seems long ago," signed Maurice, pointing at the decrepit city."Still think about them?"
"Humans," asked Caesar.
Maurice nodded in reply.
Shrugging, solemn, Caesar admitted"Sometimes."
It would be extremely difficult for Caesar not to with how much his human family meant to him.
"Didn't know them like you did," signed Maurice."Only saw their bad side."
A shame, not all apes were as fortunate as Caesar had been.
"Good, bad…doesn't matter now," signed Caesar, gravely."Humans destroyed each other."
Maurice mentioned "Apes fight too."
"But we are family," insisted Caesar, smiling.
Maurice conceded at the point rather than agreeing with it.
Caesar signed"Wonder if they're all gone."
"I doubt that. In these ten winters they may not have come here, but Carlisle said there's still a number down in the human city. Other than the Cullen's none have come here. They would tell us if they were all gone," presumed Maurice.
Despite the truth behind Maurice's words, Caesar did still carry some worries. The population of the humans had been so large before they'd turned on each other.
But as much as they liked this interval to their peaceful existence, they are unaware that tomorrow all of their lives are about to be seriously upended once again.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
