Release
Garcello stared forward blankly into the night. It confused him, since he knew he fell to the ground. In addition to that, he felt weightless. Nothing hurt anymore. His pain was completely gone. All of it. He no longer felt his headache, chest pressure, or nerves. He didn't feel much of anything really. It was almost as if he...
"Oh."
Garcello looked down at himself and found that he had become a ghost. One made of the very smoke he released from his magic cigarettes, and was still tethered to the one that lay beside his lifeless body on the ground below. How ironic...
Staring at his hands, he spoke up quietly. "Would ya look at that. I guess I overdid it, huh?" He then let them fall to his sides. "It's alright. I'd rather it be me than you."
It truly was alright. Garcello accepted his fate, knowing the true cost of those cigarettes. He also knew he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if Boyfriend suffered his fate, leaving Girlfriend to grieve alone. That would have haunted him for the rest of his life. Well, afterlife.
"That hurt like hell, but it's probably better than what your girl's father was gonna do to me." One could only hope anyway... He thought as his smoke form began to fluctuate. Some invisible force was calling him to leave, but he wasn't ready to go just yet. "I can't stay like this for long, but... Even if our time was short... Let's end things off with a bang, little man."
Boyfriend and Girlfriend took a second to acknowledge Gacello's death, but were quick to shake off the initial shock. They had seen much worse than a ghost and its corpse. Girlfriend's side of the family was to blame for that, but Boyfriend never held it against her. Her folks were just insane.
After Girlfriend picked an upbeat song, Boyfriend and Garcello faced off for the final time that night. They gave it their all until the very end, spitting lighthearted verses and venom to their best track.
"Tight bars, little man." Garcello said between turns. He could feel himself smiling at the fun they were having. It even seemed like Girlfriend wanted to jump in at some point.
