Chapter Seventeen
Frisk hurried along, following the sounds of the battle and snarls in the air, as the Monsters began running opposite from her, but not getting in her way. A rock fell from the sky as she dodged it, and then she noticed a series of rocks about to fall on some Monsters ahead. She grabbed one of them to move them, and then all the rocks were destroyed by blue spears.
"Need a hand there, Frisk?!" Undyne yelled out as she jumped ahead of her.
"Undyne!" Monster Kid called out, being the one that Frisk had grabbed at.
"Let's chat later! Run now!" Undyne said, as Monster Kid took the lead and led the other Monsters to safety.
"Come on, Frisk! I'll get you across!" Undyne said, since a wall of fallen rocks blocked the way.
Frisk ran over to Undyne, and she threw her over the rocks and smashed through them with all her might. Upon landing perfectly safely, Frisk continued running ahead and noticed Corruption crash on a building nearby. On eye contact, Corruption tore a chunk of building and threw it at her and then flew up to attack Curtain. Before hitting the child, Toriel attacked it with a mighty fireball as it burst and dispersed like ash in the wind.
"Please be careful, Frisk. And hurry! Your friend, Curtain, needs your help, correct?" She asked, and she nodded.
Frisk ran ahead as Toriel gathered the Monsters around there and lead them to a safer place.
Looking up, Frisk saw Corruption knock Curtain into a building and ran even faster. Ahead, she saw one of the buildings about to fall on a group. Asgore ran over and quickly held the structure up, as the child lead the Monsters away, especially ones too frightened to have moved in that moment.
"Thank you, Frisk. I appreciate your assistance, and am glad to offer you mine," Asgore said, as he pushed the building forward with a great shove. It collapsed and created a bridge forward leading to the lower roofs ahead.
"Go now, the higher ground will help you reach your friend," He said, and Frisk nodded and ran up.
She was able to see more that Curtain jumped out of the building and continued the fight as they seemed to be evenly matched. Frisk needed to reach higher when the two took the battle higher up.
"It looks like you need a lift, Darling," Mettaton said, as he jumped up on the roof with Frisk.
"Is there anyway you can take me up to that building they are under?" Frisk asked, pointing to the tall building the two were fighting over.
"Not too worry, I brought the right doctor for the job," Mettaton said, as he turned to show Alphys who was holding onto his back and then jumped down.
"H-Here Frisk! I'll charge up your jetpack so you can go up! Just be careful!" Alphys said as she used her power to charge her phone.
Frisk then put the jetpack on and started flying up.
"Thank you! All of you!" She yelled out as Mettaton and Alphys waved.
While flying up, Corruption noticed her coming and dived up and bit a chunk of the ceiling off and shot it towards Curtain. While blocking off some of the attack, Curtain turned and realized who Corruption was truly aiming at as the witch cackled.
"Frisk!" Curtain called, but had to block Corruption since they were still fighting.
Frisk dodged the few spits of rocks, but the flames she shot were too many. Then multiple bones appeared, as a great skeleton rose to the occasion on a lesser dog's extending head.
"FRISK! I HAVE FINALLY MADE PEACE WITH THE DOGS! MY BROTHER SAYS YOU NEED TO REACH CURTAIN! GO FRISK! GET TO HER AND STOP THIS TWISTED DRAGON!" Papyrus shouted, as he cleared the way for Frisk to fly up.
"Thanks guys!" Frisk said, and then ascended the building.
She finally reached the top and landed as she looked up. Curtain noticed her and quickly descended as Frisk flew up to her.
"I'm glad you're okay, but why come to me? I wouldn't want her to hurt you," Curtain said.
"I wouldn't want her to hurt you either, and from what I know, I'm just as much a part of this as you," Frisk said, and Curtain nodded.
"Oh what now? You're BOTH going to fight me together and HOPE you win? Go ahead! A little child and a little aecan who just got her wings... How do you really hope to WIN? There's nothing you can do or even use! You don't have hints about me or anything significant! Just that I killed before and use LOVE for it! There's nothing for you two fools to do!" Corruption said, as she concentrated more power.
"Well considering how long you monologue, we might have a chance to find something," Curtain said, as Frisk snickered.
"Enough! I know killing the brat won't work too well, and you might just be too stubborn… but then again, killing you two at the same time would be fun… or being stuck fighting here forever… heheheheh! How exciting! The more you fight the stronger I'll get until I'm stronger then you! Then… oh ho and then… I'll just go straight to the surface that all of you have been so desperate to reach… and destroy it all… then the hopes and dreams of the Monsters… and your hopes of the future will perish to dust… Hehehehe!" Corruption chuckled as she threw attacks at them.
"… She's right. Fighting will only make her stronger and come back. Even when Sans attacked her she came back…" Curtain said.
"Then we need to fight in a different way… Cover me for a moment," Frisk said, concentrating on her Soul.
"Will do," Curtain said, as she was blocking or breaking Corruption's attacks, although she got hit a few times.
'I need… that power… Asriel… I thank you for helping me to be able to use this…' Frisk thought as she brought forth Save and changed it.
They engaged in speed attacks as Corruption used claws and Curtain used her sword and occasional claw. The attacks created sparks, and then the two moved back as Corruption shot shining red fire forth with Curtain used her sword pointed forward to shoot her own water magic at her. The problem escalated as Corruption grew more stronger and Curtain struggled a bit.
"Do you think my fire is normal? If you haven't noticed, water can't quench it," Corruption taunted.
"It doesn't matter. If my people beat you before, then I can," Curtain replied as her attack grew a little more.
"Ha! Is that your best? Then take more of my fury," Corruption said, as she enhanced her power.
"Then take my power too!" Frisk said, as she jumped on Curtain's back and put her hands on Curtain's arms.
A surge emerged from the two as Curtain's attack grew in size and colors, as did Frisk's eyes. Although stronger, Corruption still held her own as they both struggled and fought.
"Just! FALL! Already! FAAAAAALL!" Corruption screamed out.
However, the attacks were evenly matched and cancelled each other out.
From the mist of the broken attack, Corruption emerged and tried to attack the girls off guard. However, a large skull appeared before them and shielded them as it opened it's mouth and shot her back while she screamed from impact. Curtain and Frisk looked down to see Sans with one arm in the air as he smirked at them, and they smiled at him.
"you know… unlike you, they aren't alone, and we aren't going down after everything we've been through," Sans said, as Corruption shook her head from the attack and stared daggers at him.
"if you're not going to have them help you by talking… then maybe they should do us and you a favor… and get you the heck outta here," Sans said with a wink and shrug, as the gaster blaster disappeared.
"Foolish bane of remembrance of long times past, I won't hesitant to destroy you…" Corruption said as she pointed a claw towards Sans.
"uh… long times past? what do you mean?" Sans asked.
"I care not to elaborate anymore… this time… this time when I sleep… ALL of YOU are COMING with ME!" Corruption yelled out as her body cracked in multiple places with red marks and started to glow.
"Everyone… underground… all of you will join me… IN DEATH! Let's go out… WITH A BOOM!" Corruption said, as she absorbed the air around her and her body glowed more and more.
"What… What…?" Frisk looked at her with widened eyes.
"She is… going to self… destruct…" Curtain said, sensing the attack.
"… we won't get away in time," Sans said, looking up at the beast's pulsing dark light.
"HAHAHAHA!" Corruption laughed with a large grin as her eyes swirled widely.
"Let's ALL DIE!" She screamed out again as she cackled.
"No… this can't happen…" Frisk said, as her might raced for a solution.
"… It won't happen… to you guys," Curtain said as she threw Frisk to Sans.
"Curtain!" Frisk called out, as Sans caught her with the head of the blaster.
"… I love you guys… See ya," Curtain said as she gave them a smile, and then charged forth at Corruption.
"Curtain!" Frisk yelled out, as Sans' eye sockets widened to see her fly off as well.
Curtain rushed at Corruption with full magic encasing her as she pushed her up as high as the ceiling was and back far enough away from the center to not cause a whole cave in.
"Fool! Why not all die instead of you alone?!" Corruption screamed.
"I won't be alone… I'll take you with me! Now blow up!" Curtain yelled out.
Then, an explosion erupted.
A powerful explosion of darkness, red, a few other colors, as Frisk's eyes were still multicolored and frozen in shock. Sans' eyes were blank as he stared at the cloud in the air from the detonation. Not only them, but others noticed it too since it was so loud and large, though everyone was safe away from it thankfully since a few rocks near it did fall, as well as the buildings under it crumbled. They were all still, and then arms grabbed at Frisk and Sans as Papyrus ran forward and said,
"HURRY! WE MUST SEE IF SHE IS OKAY!"
The two snapped out of it, as Sans used a gaster blaster to carry them to the explosion spot. The others also ran over to check.
Frisk looked around and saw no one there. She called and called for Curtain, her eyes still in multicolors.
"Where… Where is she… She couldn't have…" Frisk mumbled as her eyes glistened.
'Frisk, I sensed something happened there… and you fought… and although the bad one is gone… I can sense something else. Don't you feel it?' The voice of Asriel spoke in her mind, as she realized her connection to him was still there.
She then focused and realized she did indeed feel something else, as she looked up and noticed a light. It was a blue light and it descended down slowly. She stood back, as the other Monsters gathered too with Sans closer behind Frisk. The ball of light descended and cleared away to reveal an Aecan crouched with her head lowered.
"C-Curtain?" Frisk asked as she took a step forward.
The Aecan looked up and opened her blue eyes at the child. Frisk was shocked to see the Aecan in the picture Curtain showed her from before standing before her, as was Sans. She smiled at her, and lifted herself up as she showed Curtain in her regular form within her arms, unconscious.
"Curtain! You… You brought her back," Frisk said as she ran closer to her.
"Child. You have helped my child find her true power, and restored this world and the future. I am happy that she has found a friend in you, as you in her. Please. Take her back now. As much as I miss her, I'd rather her stay here with all of you. After all, I'll always be with her anyway," Curtain's mother said, as she placed Curtain down.
"… you got a great kid there, ya know… how are you…?" Sans asked.
"Heehee. I had some help from a fellow Aecan. He wanted to protect her and the human too. His last magic helped create this form for me to protect my child… and to help her protect what matters," Curtain's mother said with a smile.
"Th-Theodan…" Frisk said, and she nodded.
"We Aecans are quite connected, even to those not related. We are one people, and even with humans we can forge a bond that last beyond death… maybe a form of determination? Heehee. Well, I must go now. Tell my dear child, her father and I are proud of her as well… and Theodan gives his regards… as well as his sibling. Thank you all, so long," Curtain's mother said with a smile, as she began to fade.
"Thank you too," Frisk said.
"it was very nice to meet you, even if for a moment," Sans said.
"Her father says to take very good care of her, or he will come next time, Sans. Heehee," Curtain's mother said before fading, as Sans' eyes widened.
After she faded, Curtain moved a little as Frisk ran over next to her.
"… ow… did we win?" Curtain asked.
"Yeah… we did. And you're alive. Theodan had… your mom say she and your dad are proud of you too," Frisk said with watery eyes, as Curtain's eyes watered too.
"Heh. Hehehehehehe. Thanks… I think… I need a minute," Curtain said as her head dropped down.
"… Uh is there a bed nearby? I think Curtain needs a minute to rest," Frisk said, as the others came over.
"There is an inn nearby. Thankfully it wasn't close enough to the explosion," Asgore said, as he lead the way while Papyrus carried Curtain to the inn.
It wasn't long for Curtain to wake up, especially when all the Monsters gave a little magic to heal the few cuts she had and to make it easier for her to wake up. Frisk wanted to wait with her, but Toriel first said she needed to tend to her cuts as well, so she went with her in the next room to do so.
Although only a half an hour passed, Curtain dreamed of night on a tall hillside overlooking a valley she knew very well. She was sitting near the view with the house far off back, and in her lap was a child. She petted her child as she listened to him talk about whatever came to his mind. Then they heard voices from behind, as her child rolled over and called out to his father while running. She got up and turned with a smile as her eyes followed him from behind, as he ran into boney hands that embraced him.
Curtain woke up as her eyes widened, blinking a few times, and then sitting up when she realized it was a form of dream. She shock her head and rubbed her face to make sure she was awake, and then jolted when she turned to see Sans sitting on a chair as he was woken up from sleeping when she yelped.
"woah, are you alright there, Curtain?" He asked.
"Uh… yeah, I think so. I just had a weird dream is all. Where… are we?" Curtain asked, as she got up from the bed.
"oh yeah, you kind of knocked out in outside when the kid spoke to ya, so we brought you here to this inn to rest. i came to check on ya with Undyne, but i must have dozed off and she left to check on the kid, i suppose," Sans said as he got up from his seat.
"Ah, okay then. Let's go out and see them," Curtain said with a smile, as he nodded.
She stared at him for a moment as she walked out with him and smiled thinking back on her dream.
Frisk was overjoyed to see Curtain, as she noticed her eyes were back to one color of pink. Seeing that they were okay and everyone was alright, they all decided to now leave the underground. Upon exiting, they were greeted by a sunset and a view that amazed them. After Frisk agreed to be the Ambassador for the Monsters, the others went ahead to meet the humans, and the three left was Curtain, Frisk, and Toriel. The goat mother asked if the child wished to live with her or go on her own way.
+ … You know, she did take care of me in the ruins and… I want someone who can take care of my child for me since she'll be on her own without me…
- Alright, that makes sense.
+ I'm glad my kid gets to have a life… and they should decide this time, since they not only have these options. This is written after all… go ahead kid, make your decision now. I have brought you this far, so go on and live well. See ya.
Frisk smiled as one tear fell down her cheek and she whispered, "Thank you. See ya."
"What was that, Frisk?" Toriel asked.
Frisk looked at Toriel and said, "Thank you for the offer Toriel, but… I'd rather stay as I am and travel the world with my friend."
Curtain was surprised as she looked towards Frisk.
"I see. I understand. Just remember, you are always welcome in my home, Frisk. And you two, Curtain. Take care," Toriel said, and then headed on her way.
"Frisk… you got me emotional," Curtain said as her eyes watered a bit.
"I'm glad to be your friend, Curtain. And I'd like to stay with you longer. I'm also curious about your home up here," Frisk said with a smile.
"Heheheh! Alright then, Frisk! All aboard! Let's go visit my home town!" Curtain said she turned around.
Frisk jumped up on Curtain's back and held on, and Curtain summoned forth her wings and took to the sky.
